It all started when I was a wee lass and saw Interview with the Vampire for the first time. I still remember it fondly. So anytime I can read a vampire anything, I'm all for it. But, because so many books have been written about them, you have to bring something new to the table, or make a character so intriguing, so lovable that you don't care that its the same old song and dance. And I think we found both in this book. Kane is such an awesome character, because he's not the perfect romance hero. He's flawed and makes really bad decisions. Then there is Gabriela, who I have to say is fantastic. She gets a ton information dumped on her in a rather short amount of time and takes it like any other normal person would but yet still manages to keep herself from getting lost or swept away in all the craziness that is Kane's world. But what I enjoyed most about this book was the storyline itself. The never ending love story that revolves around this magically gifted necklace. It's a great twist on a normal love story and then add vampires and other paranormal elements and you know what you get? A very happy reader. (less)

I've read so many vampire stories, that most of them all seem to mesh together except for the occasional twist on the classic folklore. I have to admit that for me this back story of Gabriel, once a Templar Knight, and how the entire vampire race came to be was as memorable as the super popular Black Dagger Brotherhood. I have to admit, I might be one of those people that think at one time vampires and werewolves may have existed, because really how can there be so many stories dating hundreds of years and it not be a little bit of truth? So that aside, I found this a more realistic idea of how it all began and with Gabriel being such a noble and honorable man, you couldn't help but love him.
Then enters the awesome history buff, Harley ( which I can't say I thought the named fit with her parents being educators ) and the instant attraction to Gabriel. I appreciated how Harley felt and thought of Gabriel because once again, doesn't everyone instantly go right into sexual fantasies when you are THAT attracted to someone? I felt the relationship between the couple grew naturally and honestly. I love how this story was as realistic as it could be considering it's about vampires.
The only slight negative in my humble opinion was it wasn't long enough. I could have devoured more of Gabriel's history. But that fact that this is the first in a series make me very very happy. Excellent job and very worth the read!(less)

I wanted to smack him at first. But then he quickly made me feel guilty about feeling that way. Such a big strong brute, who is really just a lonely, vulnerable little boy underneath it all. And if you read romance, then you're a sucker for a man like this. By the end of the book, he was most definitely sigh worthy.
And I just adored Meriel. She was such a joy from beginning to end. This character stayed true to herself and her beliefs from beginning to end, and while things weren't always peaches and cream for her, she never lost her sweet love and innocence.

Now, it's takes something I'm either extremely excited about, or an exceptional book. I started reading this as soon as my kids went to bed one evening, and didn't stop until I was done. It made the getting everyone up and ready for school a fun time, OK not really but was very worth it.
I can't remember the last time I literally wanted to curl up and just live in a book I was reading. This story of Lucien, Sam and Ollie was in a word, beautiful. I'm not a huge fan of over dramatics, but Lucien's angst was real and not forced which is one of the main reasons I enjoyed this so much. On top of being just an awesome complex character, Lucien was the guy you wanted to love and most of all you wanted him to win. I loved Sam, to the point that I wanted to be Sam. Sam, along with the amazing Ollie were just such well written characters that you wanted to be friends with them, be a part of their life. The dynamic between the three really tied this whole story together in a big beautiful shiny bow that makes it feel like a gift to be a part of.
And if my gushing wasn't obnoxious enough, Laura Kaye's sub characters which were Lucien family, or coven, were just so lovely as well. I hope that Ms. Kaye decides to write the stories of the already mated couples, and even maybe of Lucien's past. Because I would gladly lose sleep for them. And you should too. (less)
