As usual, Sookie ended up getting herself into some serious trouble--more serious than ever before. Her love life is still in a turmoil. Her family is still causing her problems. All in all, a normal story of Sookie's life. I was so sad to see her great-gradfather go, and my heart gave a little when I read of Claudine's death. Now.....whatever will happen in book 10???(less)

It was unlike any other Patterson novel I have read. I think this is one of his books that you will either love or hate. Personally, I really liked it. The supernatural twist is definitely new for Patterson and I thought he handled it well. The only way I can even begin to describe it would be Twilight Zone meets Patterson.
As usual, the chapters were short and sweet and always seemed to end with some sort of a cliffhanger. This made me want to continue reading long into the night, which for me is always the sign of a good thriller. One thing that was definitely different was that the murders don't occur until the end of the book. Also, the weird ghost sightings by Kristin were so strange. I spent the entire book trying to figure out if she was a total mental case, and with the ending like it was--I am still working on figuring that out. I am not really sure if I liked the protagonist or not. She seemed like such a babbling idiot half of the time. I guess if my sanity was being put to the test I would seem like a babbling idiot though too!
This is definitely a departure from the standard Patterson thriller, but it was still a real page turner for me. I would recommend this book for readers, just be forewarned that this isn't your typical Patterson. If you go into it without any preconceived notions or ideas, I think you will enjoy it.(less)

Not sure exactly why it wasn't quite a five-star, other than the fact it took me quite a while to finish it. Maybe a little too religion-based for me? Anyway, all that aside, this was a really, really good book. The fact of whether or not Shay was actually innocent was a bit predictable--I was able to guess the hidden details behind his crime. But that didn't take away from how good the story was. And that last bit at the end, the final paragraph--WOW.....(less)

I loved how the characters grew throughout this book; how they matured. I can't really say too much about it without really giving it away though. This was a wonderful story, almost five stars for me. The only thing that prevented it from being a five-star read is the fact that I have seen the movie, so I knew what to expect at the end. This is a prime example of why I prefer to read the books and skip the movies altogher; I honestly think I would have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't ever seen the movie first.
That being said, I just wanted to warn any potential readers--make sure to have your tissue ready. You're gonna need it!(less)

Just when I thought this series couldn't get more exciting, it does. At first I wasn't sure about this one. Sookie seemed so different; darker, I guess you could say. But she slowly worked her way through it.
In this installment, we met more of Sookie's fae family. We met Bill's sister. We got to see Sookie interact with her little cousin, Hunter. We met Eric's maker & his brother. The story itself, the mystery parts of it, wasn't one of my favorites, but with all of the new characters and the family interaction, my interest was piqued. It definitely kept the story moving along.
I have read a few less favorable reviews, but in my opinion, this book is a must read for Sookie fans!(less)

I have enjoyed learning more about Flowers. He is a tough, smart, bad-ass cop, but he has a sensitive side as well. I definitely enjoyed this book and plan on continuing the series.(less)

Albom definitely knows how to make a point with his stories. We all should take some time to appreciate life's moments, our loved ones, special events in our lives.....they all should be considered precious.(less)
