I got it for free via Kindle's lending library system. Normally I wouldn't even bring something like that up, but in this instance it does make a difference.
This book was just ok. It started out in a very predictable fashion and then about a chapter in plopped a monster twist into the story and then went in a totally different direction. While the story itself is alright I just really didn't care for the characters that much. I thought Emma was just a bitch. I know she's had it pretty tough but that really doesn't excuse someone acting like that. Jake just got too weird too fast. You don't even get a chance to know him at all. And then there's poor Will, the typical alpha male plucked out of a thousand other thriller/mystery/romances with a bit of odd magic mojo thrown in to confuse him.
I can't say this was a horrible book, I did read it to the end. I think though that might be more because it was handy than any craving of mine to know the end. If I had paid any amount of money or exerted myself in any fashion to get this book I would be more irritated with it. As it was though I can't overly complain. It's an extremely fast read and I'm sure that it'll appeal to many readers who like a little bit of fluff adventure summer reading. Personally I'll probably skip the rest of the story and find something more to my liking....more

While I really enjoyed the scifi elements of the story I felt that the relationship between Devlin and Conner was rushed too fast. I've never been fond of books that do this especially in books that have the length to allow a more gradual growth of feelings. Granted I have no problem with instant lust but in the case of love and affection I don't want it happening overnight. On the other hand though, the story was much more elaborate than I expected. I enjoyed reading about their investigations and how Conner's enhancements gave a unique twist to the story. I plan on reading this story again with more leisure and I think I will probably enjoy it a lot more once I'm done pouting about the "hello-I love" you aspects. ...more

Jack seems to spend the majority of the time being a punching bag (mentally and physically) and Pete is mostly in the background except for being the occasional chauffeur. The author has spent a long time setting it up so that the reader knows that Jack is "the good guy who has made terrible decisions in his past". He's been punished almost constantly for the last couple of books and I'm getting pretty bummed out. I'd like to see him get a little happiness for a change....more

I'm a huge fan of J.L. Langley's Ranch and Sci-Regency series but this book kinda fell flat for me. I'll borrow a cliche relationship quote and say "it wasn't you, it's me" lol.
I'm not saying by any means that I think there was anything wrong with the book itself. I think that: 1. I would have preferred a little bit more of an equal relationship between Remi and Jake. I don't mind a little bit of dom/sub but in this case I would have liked less. And with that thought leads into... 2. my biggest problem with the book was Remi's job. Being a firefighter takes balls of steel. There is no such thing as a timid firefighter, and yet to have Remi so uncertain and afraid at home didn't quite fit. Now if he'd have been an office worker like an accountant or some sort of solitary job then it would have fit much better. 3. there were a couple of kinks that didn't really push any of my buttons. 4. they're werewolves for godsakes. Other than a casual mention of hunting once a month and some growling here or there the werewolf aspect barely existed. There were some seriously emotional scenes in this book, it would have been much more satisfying to see at least some more "wolfy" behaviors. When confronted there was too much running and uncertainty than standing ground and defending one's pack like a wolf.
I must say this though, I did really like the characters, the setting and the plot. It was nice to read about brothers who care so much for each other no matter what. The difficult situation they were in just made you root all the more for them to get a happy ending.
To sum up, I'm sure that this book is going to be the end all be all for many people, it's a niche book that will make many readers happy I'm sure. And that's ok :)...more

I didn't care for the cover, but was delighted to find out that it has nothing to do with the story. The heroine spends the whole book in a sweater, slacks and skechers-which I must say was really wonderful. No one with a brain runs all over town catching bad guys in high heels, leather corsets and thongs. The story line had some different twists and the main characters were complex and deep. There's a lot of suspense and some ass kicking which makes things exciting. I liked how that even with the supernatural aspect of the story the author kept the heroine as normal as possible-just someone who just kinda rolls with the situation. How I'd think I'd act if I'd just met a bunch of vampires and had never seen a single True Blood episode, lol. In all I was pleased and look forward to reading more about these characters. ...more

And lets not forget the same old boring sex scene that's replayed over and over and over. Typically, it falls apart at the end with the usual "lets sum the whole ending up in 5 pages" Laurell Hamilton ending.
I'm still kicking myself for continuing to read these books but I've gone this far already, might as well keep chugging along. ...more

Playing "what if" with my imagination I like to enact whole crazy scenarios in my head. "What would you do if werewolves were chasing you right this moment?" Which would be better? Living forever or being able to see into the future?" "Lets say you were in a horrible accident and your leg fell off. There was nothing to eat but your leg. What would it taste like?" You know, that kind of stuff. Reading this book was just like that and I enjoyed it a lot. I'd like to think that if I ever sat down and actually wrote a story that this is what it would be like. Candid, funny, and filled with angst and drama this is definitely a fun book to read....more

The main character is annoying, stupid and paranoid. As a bonus since the book is first person point of view, you get to hear her idiotic thoughts nonstop. She's supposed to be a grown woman, but sounds more like a whiny 16 year old. And she's supposed to be the love interest of 3 men? HA! Sadly enough, the rest of the characters and the plot itself seemed to be fine. I just could not stand the heroine.
I know this book was received A LOT of positive reviews and honestly I'm sitting here scratching my head over it. But, popularity aside I'm not sorry I didn't finish it. I'd rather sit in one spot for three hours and stare at dirt than to pick it back up and finish it. Thankfully, I don't have to....more
