I really liked Blomkvist, his character was interesting and I loved how he eventually became determined to solve the mystery of the missing Harriet Vanger. I liked Salander for the most part but I found her outbursts about men being disgusting a little tedious. I mean yeah you can understand she had a difficult life but I felt it was a little repeatative. I have started the second book and am already hooked....more

So if you are looking for a none biased review then you probably dont want to read mine. I love how Coupland writies about real people. He has such a way with words. And I loved this book. The book is centred around a group of twentysomethings. The group each have their own issues with life and decide to up and leave their previous lives behind heading for the desert. Their stories are filled with humour and cynicism. They take jobs that are beneath them (Mcjobs) and tell stories that show you who these characters are. This is Coupland at his best. If you want one of his novels to start you off read this....more

I use this all of the time, even just as inspiration. Jamies pizza dough recipe has become a staple in my household and paired with a pizza stone it creates a authemtic italian pizza experience! Our household is vegetarian and although there are many meat dishes in this book I find it gets more use than some of my veggie books. I love reading this and thinking of ways I can adapt a meal to make it vegetarian. If you like italian food buy this! ...more
I really enjoyed this book. The story is one most people will probably already know to some extent, five sisters who live with over protective parentsI really enjoyed this book. The story is one most people will probably already know to some extent, five sisters who live with over protective parents and are kept hidden from the world until they can no longer bear it. The story is told from the perspective of the local neighbourhood boys who for one reason or another find the five girls across the street mesmerizing and beautiful. They are obsessed and enticed by these almost mystical creatures who they know almost nothing about. From the beginning we are aware of the final outcome which has been criticised by some and adored by others, I have to say I think this is the fact that makes this book stand out from every other book in the same genre/category. I think knowing what happens to these five sad girls is so integral to the feelings we get as an observer. Knowing the final outcome of the story creates such a haunting atmosphere throughout. As I said to another reviewer, Its almost as if the girls are already ghosts. For some reason we are still compelled to read as much about the creatures as possible in the short time we know we have. Having already lost the characters from the start and knowing you can do nothing to save them means that as a reader you are almost mourning for them. The parent/child relationship was a strange one, overly strict and claustraphobic to the point where you wanted to go to that house and get those girls the hell out. The fact that the surrounding community seem aware of the troubles but refuse to become part of the solution is creepy and frustrating. While reading this you are thoroughly aware that you lack the power to change the sad outcome but that somewhere someone could have. Its such a well written book. When I was about halfway through I thought maybe the book would've been interesting written from the girls perspective but then I realised that if it had been it would have been too easy, too cut and dry, it would have lacked the mystery that grips you to read about these girls you feel you knew and you would no longer feel like an observer, like one of the boys across the street watching the lisbon girls every move. Im so glad I eventually got round to reading this.

I make such a connection with his characters and their quirks. I adore his kooky storyline ideas and the poetic way with which he describes the happening's in wonderful detail. I really enjoyed this and read it in a relatively short period when I wasnt even really in a reading mood. I love his female lead characters and like Naoko & Midori in Norwegian wood I really loved reading about Sumire & Miu. I hadnt realised that part of the story is a short story in one of Murakami's short story collections. This only reaffirmed my connection with this book as it made me feel like I was part of it by already knowing part of the plot. If you havent read Murakami before please do. I adore every word he writes... aaaah...more

I adore Ben Templesmith as an artist and think he is amazing at creating the most terrifying looking monsters in these novels. The storyline is interesting and I was instantly attracted to the plot. The story is set in Barrow, Alaska right on the cusp of the sun setting for a whole month! As you can imagine this is a dream come true for the vamps. These books are highly addictive and worth spending the money on. :D ...more
