I was hoping for an HEA but even throughout the whole book, I wasn't sure if I was going to get one. The beginning threw me off a little because of the sudden onslaught of sex but once my heart-rate returned to normal I found myself immersed in the story of my two beautiful gladiators. This book was just as graphic as the others; sexually, emotionally and physically, and involved so much pain but with so much love ready and waiting to counter. I devoured it in one sitting and will admit that when that tiger went rushing after Gold, I think my heart skipped a beat.
My emotions fluctuated rapidly while reading this; anger at Nicolaus and Samson at certain points, sadness at the emotional situations and circumstances, outrage at the audacity of Nico's wife and Marcus to try and control him, fear that things wouldn't end in a manner I was prepared for, and finally relief and love for the fabulous ending.
I'm not sure I could have imagined a better way to end it than everyone together, the couple finally finding their way back to each other with the added bonus of being free and having three youngsters to love and raise. I'm going to miss Gold (Nicolaus) and Samson but I'm sure I'll revisit their stories in the not-to-distant future. ...more

Baby Rose is truly lucky to have such caring, loving, wonderful daddies, and even though parts of this were really hard to read because of the pain everyone was going through, the storyline was both interesting and informative which I've found to be a common theme in DJ and AJ's books.
Daphne was adorable as usual, and the strong libidos of our two heros made me slow my reading, also as usual, so i could enjoy the sexy moments. I was a little worried about bartender-Steve but Thomas handled the situation with grown-up class and a haughty touch of flare. Great couple, great series - I'll miss it. ...more

I was angry at Derek in the beginning and had no sympathy for him in the least but them found myself ahhing by the time Christmas Eve came around. I think Sterling should have tortured Derek a little more - perhaps withholding that kiss that they both really wanted for even longer - but just like them, I couldn't deny that they were meant to be together.
Side note: Bravo for the conspiracy, it made me laugh out loud. :)...more

The plot was interesting and unique and held my attention, and the romance angle at the end made me "ahhh" out loud. The premise for the book is a scary thought, running out of water, but who knows if it's not what will happen sometime in the distant future.
I liked both Trace and Drew; their arrogance, bluster and obstinate denial of their still- present feelings for one another. The sex scenes were hot, especially the one with the ice cube - needed an ice cube myself at that point. Tor was a very interesting character, as well. At one point Trace says Tor doesn’t love him, it’s more like possession and that’s definitely what it seemed like, possession and obsession. He's one of those characters that make things interesting but you want to just smack really hard.
I love how the tables were turned in the hostage situation and of course, the romance of the ending. There was also some really beautiful imagery here - capturing the earth’s tears on his tongue, it was like the sun itself had entered the room, the rainfall, like hot warm tears from a broken-hearted woman had drawn them closer. And this line just made me "have to ahhh" out loud yet again. He felt like he’d found his heartbeat again…it was truly that. His heart beat in a different way when he was around Drew. So beautiful. One last thing - I loved how the French Canadian boyfriend worked his way into the story. :P...more

Gold was so strong and resourceful in his new position and surroundings, doing what he knew he had to do and what was expected of him. At first I was a little pissed at him for seeming to forget Samson so quickly and wanting another so soon, but I was wrong. He had to hamper and quash his feelings, to have another outlet so he didn’t wallow and drown in his fear and love for the man or he’d go mad with the not knowing.
Gold is still my boy, but I warmed up to Samson more in this one. He made his feelings so clear and unquestionable, Gold always seeming to be on his mind as he worried and fretted about what was happening to the man he’d fallen in love with. I developed more respect for him in this book especially when he showed his own resourceful and brutal side. As for other characters, I liked Julian a lot, he was a man of integrity and fairness, though I didn’t like him being with Samson. I felt quite the opposite for Claudius who really needed a good beat-down for his arrogance and cruelty. I hope someone does that for me in the next book.
The sex was hot but not romantic like in the first book, but that’s to be expected since the two protagonists were only together briefly. The scene where they first see each other again is still engrained in my brain and I can’t wait to see what happens next for Gold and Samson. It’s still a great universe that DJ’s built, the twist was unexpected and made me smile, and I’m completely committed to the characters, but do I really have to wait over a month to find out how it will end? :P...more
