TITLE: A 'Class A' Stash DATE READ: 04/07/14 RATING: 4.5/B+ GENRE/PUB DATE/PUBLISHER/# OF PGS: Mystery/2007/Blurb /187 pgs SERIES/STAND-ALONE: #1 campground mystery TIME/PLACE: 2007/FL CHARACTERS: Molly Miller/RV'er & mystery writer; Jove Anderson/Police Officer FIRST LINES: Traffic wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, then again, I didn't really consider the possibility of delays & detours when I planned my trip. I wasn't in a hurry, nor would I ever be again.
COMMENTS: The author/friend gave me this book & I was delighted to read it. I loved hearing about the RV'er lifestyle and living in a campground. It sounds like fun. I could relate to some of the author's characteristics and really enjoyed this cozy style mystery set in Florida. (less)

"You have a good day, buddy," he said to the Labrador retriever. COMMENTS: I loved the setting of Key West and there were many descriptions to make you feel like you were really there -- this was the best part of the book for me. The romance was so-so. 13 yrs ago 2 young people brought up in Key West have a one night stand. Abby has just graduated hs & has plans for college and Reese a few yrs older has gotten himself into a little trouble & to avoid some jail time he rushes off to the service. Abby becomes pregnant from their one encounter but cannot contact Reese so she has the baby & decides adoption is the best decision. She goes off to college & then establishes herself in Atlanta, rarely returning home to Key West. 13 yrs later her father has some issues that require her taking a leave of absence to help him & she runs into Reese. Nice enough characters & story but overshadowed by a great setting. (less)

TIME/PLACE: Present/FL & 1940's UK CHARACTERS: Jacob/16-yr old
FIRST LINES: I spend the last afternoon of Before constructing a 1/10,000-scale replica of the Empire State Building from boxes of adult diapers.
COMMENTS: This book had been recommended & I did want to read it. I recently won the sequel so wanted to read this one 1st. Not at all disappointed. This is a unique book using odd vintage photographs mostly of children to enhance the story. Jacob is the grandson of Abe, who most believe is a teller of tall tales and not to be believed. When Abe is killed mysteriously, Jacob witnesses some things that lead him to believe his grandfather's spectacular stories of monsters & more may actually have some verity in the them. Jacob is determined that the only way to determine what is real & what isn't, is to travel to Wales where his grandfather lived in the late 1930's/early 1940's after fleeing Poland. He finds the orphanage where Abe lived and finds it in a time loop w/ most of his grandfather's friends still existing…. (less)

SERIES/STAND ALONE: Stand Alone
TIME/PLACE: Present/Miami CHARACTERS: Seth Weinstein/groom; Tina Clark/bride; Trevor/Orangutan
FIRST LINES: Two days before his wedding, Seth was in a cab w/ his best man, Marty, advising him on the responsibilities of the groom.
COMMENTS: A fun whacky Florida romp. Seth is an average, not very ambitious guy marrying a woman way out of his league -- she is an over-achiever and her family is mega wealthy. They live in the NE but are having a wedding extravaganza in Key Biscayne, FL. From the moment of arrival…nothing goes quite as planned despite the excessive amount of time & money spent on a wedding planner. A few hilarious situations involve: an orangutan named Trevor escaped from Primate Adventure; parents of the groom who unknowingly share their medical marijuana brownies at the rehearsal dinner: an albino python named Blossom; a Haitian family who illegally arrive on Key Biscayne and become guests of the groom…well read the book for more.
