FIRST LINES: My 1st murder was touch-and-go, I thought to myself. Does murder get any easier? COMMENTS: I really enjoy spending time in Molly's world -- a softer, kinder, less-rushed time & place. In this 2nd outing we are still at the Emerald Bay Campground. Molly altho' the youngest member of the RV'ers that are staying there gets along w/ all the Campers and participates in most of the group activities. As a mystery writer she is very observant and notices some odd but seemingly benign behavior from her Canadian neighbor. He frequently places a different propane tank in his truck. She wonders how he can go through so much propane & what is going on. At the same time, Molly & Jove are moving on in their relationship and he introduces her to his "Aunt" Betty -- none other than Molly's favorite, albeit, reclusive mystery author. And… mustn't forget the newest character to join Molly -- Mystery the pug dog. ...more

I wasn't in a hurry, nor would I ever be again.
COMMENTS: The author/friend gave me this book & I was delighted to read it. I loved hearing about the RV'er lifestyle and living in a campground. It sounds like fun. I could relate to some of the author's characteristics and really enjoyed this cozy style mystery set in Florida. ...more

TIME/PLACE: Miami/present CHARACTERS: Dexter/Blood Spatter Analyst working for Miami PD
FIRST LINES: Pardonnez-moi, Monsieur.
COMMENTS: 4th entry in the Dexter series & still going strong for me. We start out in Paris @ the end of Dexter & Rita's honeymoon. Rita is determined to absorb everything French she possibly can, including some performance art which is the 1st thing that sparks Dexter's interest due to the gruesome nature -- giving the storyline it's segue back in Miami. The 1st crime scene Dexter goes on is not about the murder itself but the presentation of the bodies. W/ this in mind he finds that the nature of the crimes is not about the killing but the becoming involved w/ this art on a different level from standing in front of a painting in a museum. A bit wild …but unique. At the same time Kody & Astor are very anxious to learn the ways of their dark passengers and how to use them -- Dexter is trying to guide them as his adopted father did for him. ...more

COMMENTS: 04/27/08 purchase from MOTB. Loved it! Have only read the 1st book in the series & even tho' I loved that one just had not gotten around to reading more. Magic City is the pick for the upcoming Sunday Sleuths group at MOTB. I was hooked immediately w/ the early 60's photo of the Liston/Clay fight in Miami. My brother, Ted, aged 5-6 in 1964 was in the Miami area w/ grandparents at this time & had his photo taken w/ Sonny Liston the day before the fight ... who knows if the photo is still around but do remember it. So the personal nostalgia hook along w/ the intriguing Thorne and then placing the guy from the laid back keys into the city of Miami -- the contrasts of place & time worked very well. About 40 yrs later, a photo is discovered from the fight that includes some very influential & not so legit people that could be incriminating. It also could be a clue for Snake & Carlos Morales -- their parents & sister were killed at this time & they beleive this photo contains the gang of murderers. ...more

COMMENTS: library book. Charley is a flawed charancter, has an acerbic tone, alienates her neighbors but a good writer and great mother to her 2 children. She had a strained upbringing -- her mother left her 4 children and went to Australia. The father chose to remain bitter -- he provided a home, eductation, etc., for the children but w/o any warmth or affection. Charley has a lot of unresolved issues from her past. Charley's Web is the forum for her views that appears weekly in the Palm Beach Post. One of her fans is Jill -- the Beastly Babysitter Killer -- who is now on death row for the murders of 3 children. Jill approaches Charley to write her story, promising to reveal who her accomplice was. At the same time she takes on the book deal she is receiving emails threatening the lives of her children. Very suspenseful!...more
