My favorite by far. Being a self-proclaimed feminist, I have forever wondered how a woman could allow herself to be in an abusive relationship, but after this book I see how the small things can escalate under the right narcissists hands. Thank Lisa for BED! All-Time favorite. Just so you GRers know, I do not reread books. In and out is my philosophy!! I have read this book and the related Travis books 3 times or more!! Absolutely recommend to anyone, such a great message!!(less)

Oh, Matt Bowers, why are you so delicious? He's sweet, strong, and sexy, meeting the criteria of a delectable hero. He moved from Chicago where his career as a SWAT officer took a turn for the worst after he turned in his partner for being on the take. His dumb ex-wife did not like his job, especially after being stalked by a perp that Matt arrested. What a wuss! So, he hooked up with his old military buddy, Ty, and moved to Lucky Harbor to be the Forrest Ranger. You remember Ty, right? The hunky hero from Lucky in Love.
Matt is going about his never-need-love-again routine when Amy Michaels dons the pink EAT ME apron and starts serving him truck loads of Dr. Pepper (I hope Dublin Dr. Pepper, but probably not) Matt does not want a relationship, he just wants some Amy nookie. So when he get's the "just sex" go ahead he pounces, and it's worth reading for sure!
Amy Michaels comes to Lucky Harbor through some heartbreaking life experiences. The product of teenage bumpin' and grindin', she lived with her grandmother until she died when Amy was 12. Her mother was remarried to a wealth board member so Amy went to live with them. Typical teenage rebellion and calls for attention garnered Amy no true friends and no real goals in life. By the time she was 16 she was, however, grabbing the attention of the boys at her school and her step-father, who tried to act on his feelings. She tells her mom but, as stupid as women can be about their partners, her mom does not believe her. Understandably, Amy runs away and makes her way of things for about 10 years. Finally she ends up in Lucky Harbor to retrace her grandma's life-fulfilling journey through the Pacific Northwest.
She likes Matt, a lot, but is reluctant to act on her feelings because of the way she used to engage with men in her past. She used sex as a tool and, as a self-prescrbed moratorium, she has not had relations in a very long time to cure her of that destructive behavior. But she can not resist Ranger Hot Buns! The "just sex" arrangement commences and my romance-educated brain realizes the beginning of the end for both of them.
There is hardly any mention of the original sisters, which was a little disheartening. Sawyer makes a respectable appearance helping Matt with sheriff/ranger things. Lucille is front and center with her blue-haried Facebook shenanigans. Riley, a new comer to Lucky Harbor, is introduced and makes a heartfelt impression on Amy as a troubled teenage homeless runaway. The chocoholics make my day. Mallory's good girl lessons crack me up and of course lesson #1 is never tease about chocolate! Hang tight Grace, your life's purpose and HEA are right around the corner. Did some one call for a doctor?
At Last could have been a 5 Floozies show stopper if not for all the Hh indecision. "He's gonna hate me if he knows, so I won't tell him." "She will never truly love me if she knows what I really did." Self-doubt is an integral part of tortured soul romance but too much is just annoying. Thankfully Ms. Shalvis kept the hemming and hawing to a minimum and saved any more Floozies from running away.
At Last is a must read and the Lucky Harbor series continues to keep me entertained and wanting more. On to Forever and a Day!! I can't wait to read about Dr. Josh and Grace. There was just enough teasing in At Last to make me giddy with anticipation!
LOVED Ethan!! When he appeared in the first two I had very strong dislike for him. I was doubting Ms. Cole's ability to work him into a lovable enough character. He's mean, scary, angry, rude, withdrawn, etc . . . How was he going to get involved in a relationship let alone HEA? Well, I stand corrected. And like many men, it's all due in part to the woman! Maddy is my hero. She is sweet, kind, determined, driven, and focused. My heart continually broke for her but she put her big girl panties on and proved to me that you may be down, you are most certainly not out! Riches to rags to riches to death bed to HEA . . . gotta love it! I have a hard to giving Kresley Cole's novels 5/5 stars because the pace of the romancing is not cup of tea. I don't like when caracters jump into bed within 50 pages but something more has to happen before page 300 (overexageration, but you get my drift). There has been only one book of Ms. Cole's (No Rest for the Wicked) that has fit my preferred pace. I keep ready because I love her characters, but I just can't go 5/5.(less)

You are a liar if you don't want hot boys at your beck and call. But Anita Blake has jumped the shark . . . it's time to knock her up and put an apron on her!(less)

Hopefully more sex ;D I wish Delilah's background was explained faster, it seemed to come together carelessly. Samson was too whipped at one point, but he got his man card back by the end of the book. And the "OMG, I'm outta here cause you're a crazy vampire" moment switched to forever love rather quickly.
Who would not love this book after reading the 1st line? A vampire with ED is such an awesome topic, and Ms. Folsom did it justice. ED is a punch to the pride for a man, and they're human, not so insatiable as a vampire. So can you imagine how a vampire deals? Yup, he goes to a shrink! HAHA Well, after 9 months without functionality everyone knows what's NOT up. Except the mortal woman who happens upon his doorstep. That plot point was over quiet quickly and the connection between Samson and Delilah was super intense. More conflict abounds and poor Samson's having a bad few days.
Not so much . . . There was some steam but not enough. I liked the chemistry between them before they actually coupled. The anticipation was palpable! I wanted Amaury to get more action, can't wait to read his book. The SIZZLE factor was moved up remarkably when Samson and Delilah just talked, the nonsexual interaction was wonderful.
Not the best Tina Folsom book I've read and I can't even say if it's worth it to read for the series until I read the next book. There were more good moments than not, so not a usless read, I just had a lot of hope after reading A Touch of Greek. I will definately read the next book, Amaury's Hellion. This was great, kept me intrigued the whole time. I figured what the situation was early on but there were twists and turns that I did not expect. Amaury is a hot one, ladies!! And Nina, is a fierce fighter of life and vampires, she is not some wimpy woe- is-me kinda chicken! Loved it so much I stayed up till 3am reading cause I had to find out what happened! Can't wait for Gabe's book, gonna read that very soon! Lovin' me some Tina Folsom right now!!(less)

Loved this! 4/5 stars because I did not want it to end. Triton's growth throughout the book was refreshing and I loved his ideas of capturing Sophia's heart in the beginning. Some men . . . even God's get it wrong, ladies. I love mythological romance and this was right up my alley! Just enough sex and a plausible plot. I just love when hubristic hotties get smacked with the love stick (or shot in the ass with an arrow). Will definitely be reading the next installment!(less)

One of the best suspense/romance novels I have read in while. I stated in a previous blog that I was surprised by the length of time it took to get down to business. AND I WAS!! Maya Banks usually delivers, and delivers hard, fast, strong, etc . . . Well, The Darkest Hour was not like books I've read from her before but it suited. It had the best build up v. nookie ratio I've read in a long while. I grab Maya Banks for erotica but this was definitely romance/suspense.
I hold a special place in my heart for Ethan and Rachel. I cried on Ethan's shoulder when he was hurting. I just go gaga over a man that cries!! But he was a douche bag and screwed up a great relationship. He regretted his mistake and hoped to make it up to Rachel when she returned from her trip. He did not get the chance because she died in a plane accident, or so he thought, for a year!! My mom always told me to say your "Goodbye's" and "I Love You's" because you never know if you will see that person again. And Ethan is literary proof. Rachel ends not being killed, but held captive in the jungle where she was doing her missionary work. They get her back and the work to rebuild her sanity and their relationship is an uphill battle.
I liked Rachel and her struggle and determination to remember life before she was held captive and to gain her strength back. As always with Maya Banks, the characters are well-defined, relatable, and the men are hunky beef cakes. I always love a good family series, and I can not wait for the other brothers books! And who would not love Marlene and Frank Kelly. What a great matriarch! Strong and soft, exactly what a mother of 5 boys would have to be. And Garrett . . . *sigh* Such a softy! He cares for Rachel and would protect her over his brother any day, gotta love having that in your corner.
I gonna make a prediction . . . Rusty and Sean are gonna hook up later on down the road! He's only 10 years older than her and is already starting that bristling attitude thing that guys do when they shouldn't find someone attractive but do!! Give it 7 KGI years, Rusty will be 23 and Sean will be 33. Can't you just image all the delectable interactions to come! Maybe throw in a marriage for Sean and then a divorce giving him a woe is me, I'm never marrying again attitude. Then walks in pierced and dyed Rusty to complement his straight laced sheriff demeanor . . . maybe I should start writing books :D Don't be swayed by me Ms. Banks, you keep doing your thing, cause it's working!!(less)

After reading The Darkest Hour that last person I thought would be a brand new poppa was Sam. He is definitely the more aloof brother. Not that he lost his aloofness, it was just knocked down a few pegs. He is rightfully suspicious of Sophie after she explains her lineage, but one thing he does not dwell too much on is the truthfulness of her child's paternity and I am happy for that. It would have hurt my heart to see Sophie have to convince him after all she went through just to protect herself and her baby.
And what a trooper is she? I am heart broken about what happened to her mom, and how things evolved after her escape from her father. She is strong and courageous, sometimes to a detriment. But she prevails and her baby is nestled safely in her womb. I was rooting for Sam and Sophie from the first pages of the book. And boy, were they steamy. Sexy from the start . . . my kinda book. Oh, big brother knows how to heat up the sheets. He is hot like fire!!
The suspenseful parts were in perfect harmony to the lovey-dovey parts. The conflict of Sophie in the boat, then subsequently over board, was so intense I stayed up late just to make sure she was safe. And when Sam realizes it's Sophie on his dock, talk about a rising action! Ms. Banks is great at making you need to read Just One More chapter. Like ending the chapter with Sophie hanging on to the log for dear life in the middle of the night! Yeah, just one more chapter!! And Rusty's growth was so touching. I cried through that whole conflict. I'm not even gonna give you guys a little hit, you have to read it!! Rusty is my girl and I am happy she is on the road to her happily ever after!
I always look forward to Maya Bank's talent of creating such a wonderful connection between the hero and heroine. She has a special ability of making their time together, whether knockin' boots and just getting to know each other, so intimate. You almost feel like you are prying in on a private moment. If there is one way I love to get lost in a book, it's to feel like I am apart of these people's lives while I am reading. I want to be at their table for dinner and laugh with them at their jokes. I read because I love getting involved in a story, and hunky operatives are a major bonus! Maya Banks has delivered every time and No Place to Run is another winner. Hidden Away comes out tomorrow and I can't wait!!(less)

I enjoyed the plot twists, like how the heroine is Garrett's enemy's sister, and how not only does Garrett have to worry about her brother but a monster who wants her dead. What turmoil! And Sarah . . . Again, Maya Banks paints her characters in such vivid detail I had a hard time not rooting for them! Garrett, goes on his undercover, nab the bad guy, mission only to find sweet, smart, strong Sarah. I enjoyed the non-sexual interactions between Garrett and Sarah so much, another Bank's gift. Sarah falls for this retired, injured, Marine and in an attempt to save him, cut's bait and takes off. All the while Garrett is distressed because he's falling for too and he's supposed to be keeping an eye on her and she got the drop on him. And WOW, what a turn of events when he starts respecting Marcus' actions after Sarah's ordeal. dun dun dun . . .
Lots to love about this book! But it fell a Floozy short for me because of a couple, not super important but worthy, reasons. 1) There seemed to be a lot of tangents. Like, that Garrett's story was not strong enough on it's own so let's throw in a ransom kidnapping and a scary intruder. All the tangents are interweaved beautifully, thank you Ms. Banks, but it just seemed too much. 2) No heavy petting!! I get that Sarah had to get herself straight before she could venture into bonking, but at least some heaving petting to get us fiends by till the fireworks! Anyway, when the fireworks did fly it was the Grand Finale part of the show :D Are pickin' up what I'm puttin' down?
I liked that Rusty and the brothers had their moment and I loved how Sean stepped up for her, and I still think they are going have their HEA later :D I CAN NOT wait for her book. I really wanna read Rio's book too, what a latin lover, yummy!! But the MOST suckiest thing is next book won't be out until later this year! And Donovan! What a hunky, geeky, teddy bear!!
So, overall, I loved the book but it was not as cohesive as The Darkest Hour and No Place to Run. I did not feel the connection with Garrett and Sarah, as a couple, as I did the other brothers. Garrett is still my favorite brother, but my son's name is Joe and Joe Kelly is hurt and I wanna kiss his hurt parts, it's the mother in me ;D Again, Rusty is awesome and I am patiently waiting for her HEA(to Sean)!! The one thing this book did accomplish is it's making me salivate for the next installment. There were some many "OMG! I can't wait to read about that!" moments. A whole year?!? Really, Maya?(less)
