Happy tears, sad tears, or proud tears, I was ready to show the ultimate emotion for this book every step of the way!! I was so inspired by Nora. Her dedication, and "sticktoitiveness" (as my father would call it) was so admirable! I have never been such a champion of a heroine ever.
Sunrise Point grabs your heart and never lets go. I was thrust into a world of poverty and perseverance, again . . . I grow up in similar conditions and, for various reason, my parental figure was not as driven. Now, as a devoted mother and a valued wife/partner I know how hard Nora struggled and I am so happy that Robyn Carr created the perfect character and story to show the resilience of a dedicated mother! I will do anything to see to my children's safety and welfare and I felt that from Nora and from her local support system. It truly takes a village and I love the Virgin River village :D
Maxie, owner/matriarch of Cavanaugh Apple Orchard persuades her grandson to give, single, destitute mother, Nora, a picking job. Thankful for her position at Cavanaugh Orchards, Nora does not disclose her on-the-job injuries for fear of termination. Tom Cavanaugh is not fooled by her stoic behavior . . . and so the love story begins.
Darla is a GREAT addition, makes me wonder how many dumb men are hoodwinked by conniving women? Juxtaposed to Nora and Maxie's plight with no-good men, blinded by the light, I guess . . . The adventure Nora embarks on is so fun to travel. She has been dealt a lot of shit in her life, about time something goes right!
Although the "regulars" (aside from Rev. Noah) do not interact with Nora & Tom, Jack, Mel, Preach, and Paige were not far away from Virgin River and the side story that is Hank Cooper (aka Coop). I can only imagine Hank Cooper's story is next. We all know the where but . . . Who? What? When?
My favorite Virgin River book so far! Give me more Robyn Carr :D

For some reason I missed the whole steampunk aspect of this book, so it took me a minute to get the idea that The Iron Duke did not take place in historical England. Once I got that, I realized the world Meljean Brook had created was so amazing and fantastic. The different classes and the prejudice associated was just one level of this skyscraper of a book.
(view spoiler)[Rhys (how many names did he have anyway, jeez, I had to reread a few parts to make sure it was him), oh boy, talk about take no prisoner hot boy. He takes what he wants and dosen't even bother with a thank you. His aura and presence were so enthralling. When he was on the page I paid extra attention because his character did not say or do anything that was not of great importance.
Mina's physical appearance is the embodiment of the "horde" to the public and a major catalyst to how she lives her life. I compared the Horde to the Nazis. Controlling, oppressive, unremorseful . . . you get the idea. Mina's mother was raped by one of the Horde and upon seeing her daughter she gouges her eyes out, not because Mina was grotesque, but for the injustice forced upon Mina's mother. Love, support, and understanding take the place of grief and Mina is raised in a house that any child would be proud to call home. However, when she steps on the street she is bombarded with ridicule, name calling, and even physical harassment because people see her outside appearance not taking the time to see what kind of person she is on the inside. That layer of the story really got to me because I can not stand by to racism, prejudice, and injustice. I like to think I fight, in my own way, for those who are effected and try hard not to judge before getting to know someone.
Anywho . . .
Mina is resigned to her lot in life and takes it on the chin like a champ. Rhys vows to purge the nasty thoughts of the "jade whore" from the minds of the public, when in reality Mina is the one that ends up setting the public straight just by being herself, a remarkable public servant, and a women in love.
Mina outwardly wants a quick tryst with Rhys, not wanting to reach too far above her station. However, Rhys will not stop until Mina is in his bed permentatly. Hello, feminist . . . Yeah, I cringed a little but thankful Rhys realized the value of Mina as a person, as a partner, and as a potential mother to his children. (hide spoiler)]
Saw blades for teeth, glass orbs for eyes that detect truths and lies, metal sharks, and cracken!! Action, adventure, love, personal development, and sequels!! I was transported into this world and loved every minute I spent with Mina and Rhys. Even the supporting characters were exciting to get to know. I am a happy book lover right about now. Just so much to chew on without being overwhelming. The core of the story is crystal clear and so entertaining I could not put it down.
The development of Mina and Rhys' love for each was so sweet and just . . . perfect . . . for this book! I can not wait to read Heart of Steel and, really, any other steampunk romance I can get my hands on!!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

Such a wonderful historical romance from a relatively new author. Sarah MacLean is on my watch list and I will promptly read the remaining books of the Love by Numbers series! I loved the characters, the plot, and the fabulous set-up to the subsequent books. Can not wait to read more!!
I will not venture a complete review because this book is a must read. I will however confirm the countless praises of Nine Rules. Calpurnia is the heroine all romance writers aspire to create! A "shelved", plump, spinster with an amazing heart and a feminism I would hope to have if I were part of historical London society. Fed up with the double standards and pedestals she sets forth on a mission to have the adventures men experience everyday, changing her live and reforming a rake in the process! Hang 'em all!
My love for a book is bone deep when I wish I could be friends with the characters and I know Callie and I could have a blast!
Lovable heroine Sincere, heartfelt, and cheeky dialogue Hunk of a hero transformed from rake to life time partner Fabulous supporting cast and A spectacular series set-up

I absolutely loved this book. The emotional aspect was remarkable. I haven't cried so much in a long time. I was pulling for a happy ending hoping the H/h would just put the past aside, unload their baggage and let love in. On top of all that the sensual side of the story was breathtaking. I did not have to wait long until they were heating the sheets. I think that was a tactical move so the reader could focus more on the emotional bond that needed to be built! This was my first read by Sherry Thomas and it will not be my last! You can find this review and many others on my blog FairytaleFloozy!(less)
OK, so there a few reasons I am in love with this book and will admittedly be a little biased:
- I love football! All kinds, PeeWee, Powder Puff, High School, College, Pros. I come from a huge football family. My favorite player is Joe Montana, and the 49ers will be my team until the day I die. So, football in San Francisco is so much fun to read about. And the fictional team in the book actually had a great season, GO SABERS!!
- I was born and raised in the East Bay and met my husband in Concord! How cool is that! Lots of books I've read are based out of San Francisco, but none so close to home.
- I was one of those girls who dreamed about dating the star quarterback. My adolescent fairytale come true.
I begurdingly paid the $9.99 kindle price (ouch!) hoping my love for football & romance would prevail and they did. I've found a new author! I've found a new author! I am going to go get more Jaci Burton books (hopefully less expensive) and read to my hearts content. If you want a great love story and steamy bedroom (and beach) scenes, pay the $10, you will not be disappointed!(less)

This was great, kept me intrigued the whole time. I figured what the situation was early on but there were twists and turns that I did not expect. Amaury is a hot one, ladies!! And Nina, is a fierce fighter of life and vampires, she is not some wimpy woe- is-me kinda chicken! Loved it so much I stayed up till 3am reading cause I had to find out what happened! Can't wait for Gabe's book, gonna read that very soon! Lovin' me some Tina Folsom right now!!(less)

My favorite by far. Being a self-proclaimed feminist, I have forever wondered how a woman could allow herself to be in an abusive relationship, but after this book I see how the small things can escalate under the right narcissists hands. Thank Lisa for BED! All-Time favorite. Just so you GRers know, I do not reread books. In and out is my philosophy!! I have read this book and the related Travis books 3 times or more!!
