Conner and Hamilton bring it home in the urban town of New Haven where the bodies of women keep showing up mangled and murdered. The woods in this city are a place everyone tries to stay away from. Well, except the protagonist, Charisse Bellamy, who finds herself drawn to them and the danger they hold. With twists, turns, and colorful characters, this one was hard to put down and had me guessing Who, What, Where, and When to the very end. Great visuals, vivid, horror scenes, sexy action, dimensional characters, and a story you can sink your teeth into, literally. Being one of Stephen King's favorite fans, I know one gift he gives is first-rate characterization. Very little imagination is needed to cultivate and construe his words, and then weave them into each individual he intertwines to draw out a compelling story. When I finish one of his novels I know his characters so well I can smell their skin. In Mr. Mercedes, King doesn't touch lightly on his killer's psyche; he reaches in and pushes every horrid thought, fetid word, rank action, and gritty detail from Brady's mind into ours with no holds barred, free of hampering conventions. Brady is demented, warped, a broken soul, and yet by the end of the book I feel the sorry for him. Mr. Mercedes is not a book I will forget soon. It will haunt my dreams, and make me wonder who is under the skin of each person I meet in the daylight.
With 5,834 reviews crediting him with a five-and-a-half star average there is very little I can add to the way this book left me. I can tell you the Whispersync narration by Will Patton added a great audible voice and did justice to King's story. I was in Brady's head, under his skin, navigating his life, a horror I will not soon forget. Yet, I felt his pain as he looked down on Freddie, a useless toy train on his chest, and shared Brady's annoyed, almost cold acceptance of his mother's blunder, his blunder, really. With an expertness King is noted for, he once again gives us a handful of broken individuals, each festering in their own Hell, and brings them together in a perfect foray of mind-F'ing situations.
June 6th I just purchased MR. MERCEDES by STEPHEN KING. I did this because one of my facebook friends when ape crazy over FINDERS KEEPERS in one of his posts. I haven't read King in a bit, although I did read THE LONG WALK again recently (4th time), and because I missed him, the King of The Dark Tower series and the books written by Bachman, as much as a delicious, forbidden serving of rich dark chocolate. I slid into Mr. Mercedes. I mean I had to read the book that I believe precedes Finders Keepers, right? It only took me two paragraphs to ask myself how I could have missed this book, and one paragraph to thank my wishful thinking for purchasing the Audible narration through whispersinc--so glad I did--the narrator is F'n amazing. And the story... IT. IS. CAPTIVATING. The way King lets ME into the mind of the sadistic murderer (I mean really, no-holds-barred, in), and through the mouth of the most evil sounding narrator, well, it's shiveringly mind blowing! I was breathlessly enthralled (and feeling wickedly evil for being so) before chapter two. I am sooo going to read Finders Keepers, but not until I savor EVERY SINGLE word in Mr. Mercedes....more

The book iJEFF Guinn' s story of Charles Manson's life is a thorough account of the man, the times, the events, and the horrible crimes he committed. The book is very detailed from Manson's earlier years to the trials and aftermath. I purchased this with the audio version for my Kindle and was very happy I did. The narrator does a great job.
It's eye opening--leaves no stone unturned--and horrifyingly graphic. I had no idea how magnetic the highly uneducated, yet far from simple, extremely charismatic, and very mentally damaged man was, and is. ~~Susan Stec, author, The Grateful Undead series....more

Summoned captivated me from the first chapter with gritty characters and witty originality. I fell in lust with the author's protagonist and totally wished I were his lover, Syd, by chapter two.
Imagine being at the beckon call of a monster, someone whose wish is your command, one you don't even wish dead because the next heir is a more horrifying monster. She wishes more from you than daddy did. And it's way too personal. As Dimitri would say, "...that slow death I had hoped to avoid."
The plot took several turns along the way, and each one totally blew me away, and that doesn't happen often. Summoned is a book you can't stop thinking about getting back to.
Rainy Kaye pulled this age old myth into the 21st century with a storyline that intrigued, entertained, and surprised me with its uniqueness. I am very much looking forward to the next two books in the series. ...more

With beautiful visuals and flawless writing, Hamilton's world is built quite well and traversed through many twists and turns. The story culminates with a shocking reveal two-thirds into the book—describing a relationship never fated to be, and another destined—from there it is a nail biting roll-a-coaster ride to the end. But the battle waged in this book is not the war predestined. That is yet to come.
Two lives, and one love that never dies, a must read. ~~~Susan Stec, USA Today bestselling author of The Grateful Undead series.

It hasn't been long since Mercy and Adam married and he pulled the coyote into the pack, much to the disappointment of the wolf shifters. Things still haven't settled. However, with Adam's love and his daughter Jesse's help it was getting better. But as always, where ever Mercy goes a cloud of chaos seems to follow.
This time it's Christy, Adam's ex-wife who calls with a problem, a big scary problem, and things like burning buildings and a trail of dead people follow the annoying human right to Adam's front door for help. Does she know how to peak Adam's best Alpha quality, or what? Mercy finds herself at Christy's mercy when Adam's ex moves back into their home and everyone gather's to help. The pack embraces her, maw's salivating, because the way to a wolf's heart is through its stomach and Christy can cook up palatable delights as well as she can stir up a boiling pot of loyalty, seasoned with helplessness, fear, guilt, lost friendships, and good old times.
As the creature gets closer and attacks get more threatening, Tad jumps in to help and we get to see a side of the half-fae we have never witnessed - so totally awesome! Stefan, the colorful vampire (one of my favorite characters in this series) has a big surprise for Mercy that kind of rankles, but hey, at least Mercy's family rallies to help: A brother (who knew) makes an appearance with a prophesy of death and doom. That elusive walking stick is back in the picture, a side conflict that sends Mercy searching for her father, the mysterious and always so entertaining, Coyote. You know he has to offer his...um, well, with Coyote it's hard to figure out what exactly he is offering.
Once again, Briggs is the queen of pack politics and all that is werewolf. She never disappoints with great action and imagery that takes this reader right into the pack. Another really good read - I'm waiting, as always, for the next in the series.

In the second in her series it's all about power. Intense, powerful and thought provoking with an ending that definitely leaves no room for passing up the third volume of this trilogy, WICKED POWER rolls toward a multifaceted climax that left me wanting more.
In book two, readers get to see the power behind the hunger in book one, and it's a multilayered, intense disruption in every facet of their lives.
Relationships, family, friends, love, pain—there is always pain—and a driving hunger for answers come together in a powerful conclusion that is sure to change the lives of Zander, Van, and everyone who knows them in the next episode of SOMEONE WICKED THIS WAY COMES.
I was memorized by the concept in book one, WICKED HUNGER,it carried over to book two, and I know Ms. Gladden will not disappoint in the next in the series. I will be waiting, but not so patiently :)

Add Romance, skillfully penned characters and enchanted winged horses and you have a very entertaining read.
As always, Ulleseit's scenes are filled with marvelous visuals that put you right there on the dusty streets of High Meadow in each shop, barn, and household with sight, smell, and sound. Her characters have depth and are unique, each with compelling personalities, and the winged horses (my favorite scenes) are spell binding, and captivate me with their beauty and grace.
