However, I found it a bit weird that he would just immediately accept that he had a daughter that he never knew about. What if Susan was lying?? But as always the book picks up pretty fast and is fast paced and impossible to put down. This might be my new favorite series. (less)

Summary: It's about a group of friends who are in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets captured and suspected of a terrorist attack. They are being interrogated for several days and only three of the four friends are released. They threatened to not say anything. Marcus, a hacker, decides that he will have none of and rebellion.
About the title: Little Brother's a clear reference to the 1984s "Big Brother" ("Big brother is watching you"). This title fits perfectly with the book. Would you like to be watched through your credit card? Bus Card? Your gait? And would you like it if the government was able to interrogate you if you did something out of the ordinary? I'm not going to lie, I was a little scared after reading it and now I kind of want to build my own computer complete with Linux and a lot of other things.
Other books that it reminded me: It reminded me very much about Feed by Mira Grant, in more ways than one. The writing style is quite similar for one, and the explanation is easy to understand. Doctorow tells you things, he doesn't thrown it your face. Secondly, the government is hiding something after something dramatic has happened (the zombies in the Feed and the terrorist attacks in Little Brother). Thirdly Xnett reminded me very much of their "The End of times" blog in Feed.
Characters: The characters in this book is not black and white, there are also different shades of gray. The main character, Marcus, is a hacker and everything he does isn't exactly considered legal. That doesn't mean he doesn't seem like a decent guy. On the contrary, he seems like someone I would like to know. He is not afraid to say what he believes, and has excellent choice of friends that make the book complete.
Quote from the book: "Once you get two naming your laptop, you know that you're really having a deep relationship with it. Now though, in felt as I did not want to ever touch it again. I wanted to throw it out the window. Who knew what they'd done to it? Who knew how it had been tapped? " p. 85
I LOVED IT. NEED TO READ SOMETHING LIKE IT. NOW!(less)
