His funeral’s today? No problem. Tomorrow’s his death date? No big deal. But waking up in the bed with his best friend's sister???? Now that is a problem and a big deal!!! The day after Denton sleeps with Veronica, his best friend Pablo's sister, strange things start happening. Sure he's going to die, but what is this huge purple-blue looking bruise on his leg? And the little red pulsing lights? He’s decided since he's going to die tomorrow anyway, he might as well not worry his mom or dad. However, this only works for so long. It changes the moment he sees that Veronica has the bruise too, but no red dots!!!??? I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book for older teens and adults. It's characters are lovable and funny and believable. ...more

Not only was the writing good, but the plot was original and held my interest from the very beginning. I've read a lot of dystopian books and if I start one and the plot seems familiar I have a hard time getting very far in the book. Needless to say in this case that wasn't a problem!
In order to rehabilitate criminals the government is using a technique called "Slating". The process involves wiping a mind completely clean, no memories of the past or of your ability to walk, talk or any idea of who you were. The idea is that once you have have been rehabilitated you can be reintroduced into society with a new family and a new life....more

Even by the end I wasn't convinced that Cas could really love her considering she either looked like Medusa at times or at best a young girl dressed in a dripping bloody dress. However, this did nothing to keep me from getting sucked in to Cas' story. I was intrigued by the murder of his father and Cas' legacy to keep up the family tradition of "killing" ghosts. Then the sequel..."Girl of Nightmares"? Its cover alone drew me in...does Anna not look beautiful? I think even I might consider chasing her into Hell. The development of characters in this book was amazing...Carmel was a badass, Thomas no longer just a nerd, but a full out amazing witch and our new accomplice, well she might just be the best thing to come into Cas' life. What a great story, so original! Can't wait to read the sequel...as a matter of fact, do you think you might send me an ARC sometime, MS. Blake? Look forward to much more by you!...more
