Okay, Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series is funny as hell but it also carries with it a heavy storyline. The Consequence series is contemporary romance with just about improbable story lines that make me laugh out loud, swoon, and smile all the livelong day.
In all of his 28 years of life, Reid Emory has never had to ask a girl on a date. Weird but true. So when Reid hits a rough patch in his dating life, he makes the mistake of listening to his little brother Max. And when Max Emory is involved, most things go from bad, to worse, to even worse...
One caveat to this series is that you have to read the previous books in the series to get the full amount of snorts and guffaws out of The Consequence of Seduction. The entire gang, Milo, Colton, Max, Becca, and Jason, are all in this book and inside jokes are plentiful. Surprisingly, Max Emory plays a pretty big role in this story as he's the one who seems to make his big brother's love life his new mission in life.
On one friends night out, when Max tells Reid get back on the proverbial horse and "hit on" the cute girl at a bar, it's never a good sign when the girl immediately thinks you're gay. Of course Reid thinks Max put the girl up to this. When in all honesty, our girl, Jordan, is so used to being looked over by guys, she just assumes that Reid is gay because why else would he approach her? She thinks he's only talking to her because her shoes are to die for.
The rest of the story is ridiculously romantic and far fetched but oh so fun.
Please, no sticks in the mud should read this book, unless they want to be cured of their ailment.
If you have a problem with FICTIONAL stories humorously poking fun at 86 year old ladies who drop their shirts and attack hot movie stars, just turn around and say, "not for me". No haters, please.
But what I love about this story is that there's a thoughtful romance underneath it all. Jordan has forever been the average girl but she is awesome at her job of staying in the background and doing PR for public figures. I really enjoyed watching her come out of her protective shell and learn to relax via Reid and his sense of humor. And even though few could put up with Max and his shenanigans, she gave it back to Max and I adored their relationship in the end.
The only reason why I took off a half star is because Max became almost "too much" for meto handle! I kind of wish he was dialed back a little and wasn't such a major part of the story. But then again, he did cause all the trouble in the first place...
I highly recommend the entire Consequence series for dreary winter days when you really, REALLY need a smile :)

This is from Reid's POV and he's just had a "date night in" with Jordan.

Well, I wasn't expecting that!
The first book in Jennifer Chance's Gowns & Crowns series was all about the Prince finding his Princess and all that fairytale romance mushy stuff, with a bit of intrigue added in. Well holy smokes did Ms. Chance ramp up the intrigue. She added in a whole lot of suspense to this second book in the series. It was almost as if Intrigue walked up to Romance and asked it to dance.
And it's a slow, sultry dance in a small pub on a small island in the Aegean Sea.
If only Lauren could have that carefree life. She's been groomed since birth to be front and center in the limelight to represent her family and all their billions of dollars. Unfortunately, someone from her past is coming to collect her to be his trophy wife - someone who apparently has the blessing of her parents. Lauren is afraid of this guy but is doubly afraid of what the guy might do to her sister if Lauren doesn't play his games.
For Lauren's safety (and the Crown's reputation), Dimitri Korba, the captain of the Garronia National Security Force, is assigned to shadow Lauren to the Prince's engagement party. Even though Lauren and Dimitri don't seem to get along, there is definitely some sort of opposites attract chemistry happening between them.
Besides this series continuing to be on the hotter side of the romance scale, Ms. Chance writes romances that start off as impossibilities and writes them to their possible happily ever afters. Oh, each book has a definite HEA, but there's an overall ARC to the series that is kind of obvious and if it plays out, it will change everything and give EVERYONE their final HEA.... err, I hope?
An interesting thing to note is that this second book picks right up after the first book. So we are talking only a matter of 2 weeks plus 3 days for the entire time frame of both books so far. Just an interesting piece of trivia...
Even though Emmaline (from the first book) and Fran were only "mentions" in this book, most all the other characters were back. One of my favorites, the Queen, was in especially rare form ;) She is an adorable force to reckon with. But more than anything, I enjoyed getting set up for the next book which will be Claimed in June 2016. I can't freakin' wait for Nicki to get Stefan-the-spy's stick out of his butt.
On that classy note I'll just stop right there... I had such high hopes for this review :|
