Lots of sweet romance and steamy love scenes; but also plenty of humor and action. She’s really one of my favorite authors! I can always trust her to make me fall in love with her characters!
So I was surprised that I didn’t really start feeling totally comfortable with this one until about 1/3 of the way through it. It’s really mainly because of my personality and the kind of person I am that made me really stubborn on some things in this story. We already know what kind of guy Rowdy is from the previous books. No surprise there. And LF even writes the story in such a way that explains a lot of why he behaves in the way that he does. He’s a tough alpha male with some really closely held secrets and vulnerabilities. He’s used to living privately and so hidden that he doesn’t share easily with anyone else but his sister Pepper. So I get it. BUT...
I really had a difficult time with how he was such an unapologetic man-ho. I know he used sex as kind of a drug to keep his demons away. It was his personal coping mechanism. But the fact that he was so interested in Avery and let her know that on a regular basis, yet he kept getting busy with lots of other women, sometimes right in front of her… really bothered me. I know even she had a feeling he did it for his own private reasons and there was no emotion involved. But I just couldn’t feel any warm and fuzzy feelings for Rowdy until later on in the book. Avery, in the past books has been very sassy and tough. In this one she showed more of her fears and vulnerabilities. She was more agreeable than before. So my expectation and perception of her was very different. But I still liked her.
I also know and totally trust this author to write in a way that will get me where I need to be as it relates to my understanding of everything in the story. I knew the whole way through that I would somehow get to where I understood Rowdy and Avery and how they find their way to each other. I knew it… But I still spent a portion of the book feeling somewhat frustrated with him… and maybe a little with her for being more accommodating than I would have been. For example, Avery walks in to his office at an inopportune time… you can guess what… after some discussion with her later he promises not to let it happen again on the work premises. Yet not too much later he’s in there with Avery! My womanly pride would not have allowed him to take me in there knowing I had witnessed him in there doing other things! But that’s just me…
LOTS of plusses though! It’s got all our fun characters from previous books. Lori Foster is a huge animal lover so I love her use of pets in her stories. We love Cash! There are many new secondary characters we can wonder about. The love and loyalty among the group is fantastic and of course the steam factor is amazing.
Certainly none of my frustrations were deal breakers for me! I love this author and I love this series. There is not much by this author that I don’t like. She’s amazingly talented and I can’t wait until the next one!! (less)

She has a bit of a different voice and the stories are unique. I love the back story here about the old legend and how the McCabe family is blessed. Always a big plus for me is that the books are not too short. They are nice and long and you can really sit back and enjoy it and feel like you got your fix!
I like Tim and Spence. The very obvious and inevitable pairings that are taking place in this series are each very sweet. The beginning of the book that goes back to when they were all younger and Lainey was a kid and loved her boys so much was truly heart wrenching and emotional. They are all very close and connected to each other. Lainey was frustrating at first because she was so clueless about the men. These days we can all read body language and energy pretty easily. Their need to be with her and take care of her really should have clued her in long before. But that was a small thing. They were a wonderful triad and they treated her like gold.
There were lots of very funny moments and also some clues as to who will come next. Melanie’s visions keep us all wondering what will happen! (less)

I love this series. This author has a special ability to write things in a way that makes you feel the emotions of the characters so strongly. Up until this story, I could always feel and count on the fact that the 6-pack brothers were brought up right and regardless of their "playing" ways, they always treated others with respect and consideration. (Kind of reminds me of the Chase brothers in Lauren Dane's books, those boys are the epitome of respectful.) This family was no different in that regard. Therefore their love stories were incredibly sweet and enjoyable. No horrible male treating the woman badly and then seeing the error of his ways.
That being said... Jesse totally ruined it for me (Not the book, but my love and respect some of the boys). I was completely appalled and disappointed in his character. Do I get the jealousy dynamic and the difficult transition he and Joel are going through? Of course. It would be hard for anyone. But Mr. & Mrs. Coleman, in my opinion should have kicked his butt for his behavior! Completely not what that family stands for. Actually all of them disappointed me on some level because of their judgment of Vickie. But Jesse was literally disgusting. No way they brought up those boys to say and do the things he did. And the fact that it was left unaddressed and unresolved was especially disappointing.
On the flip side, I want to also say that the build up in Joel and Vickie's romance was amazing! Her reactions to the smallest things with Joel can take a girl back to when a boy first held your hand. Super sweet and romantic. I loved it. They were great together and it was beautiful how they became best friends along with falling in love. It killed me that they couldn't be honest with people about her being a vir... (newbie) at the whole sex thing and the rumors about her past. Her self sacrificing attitude about her sister was detrimental in how the town treated her and no one will ever know the truth. I hate that. But I understood it. I had tears in my eyes more than once as people treated her so terribly. Its gross how people can be. Truly. Also, the fact that she and Joel were so young made the story end in a way that , at least to me, was still a teeny bit not final because they both knew they had to separate for a while and still had some growing up to do. I want my stories to end in a grand HEA and a gooey epilogue! But thats just me!... Lol. I would love to see a .5 short story come out revisiting the reunion of Joel and Vickie and maybe some more finality to their story.
So!!..... Vivian if you are reading this just know this! I greatly anticipate more in this series. They don't come out fast enough for me! I know Travis's story is coming next and even THAT seems forever away!... so I'm assuming Jesse's story will be down the road, which of course is WAY to long for me! I hope hope hope that his story allows for some SERIOUS and I mean serious redemption and healing for his character and the damage it has done to the family image, at least in my mind. Love these books... if you haven't read them, read them in order! Sitting on the edge of my seat now..(less)

The Colter family is that way too (for all you Maya Banks lovers out there).
I really enjoyed the story. Beyond the beautiful love story and amazing teams and families, there was still lots of action and suspense. To say it is all realistic I'm aware would be silly. But who cares. Its the fantasy world we love to read about and I thoroughly enjoyed connecting again with the whole KGI gang and cant wait for the next one. I'm soooo looking forward to another Kelly brother falling on his knees in love with a woman!... I enjoy the other team members' stories too but I've been missing those brothers as well.
Don't miss this series. Maya Banks is truly talented and her stories are some of my all time favorites!(less)

I love this author so much. However, I'd say if you were a MB fan, this has a bit of a taste of the "Sweet" series and a pinch of Harlequin in the sense that we have a Millionaire with a contract and a mistress. Yet Gabe has that delicious dominant thing going on that just makes you melt. It just took a while for the soft gooey side to show up.
Either way, it was a very sexy and romantic story. I liked both characters as well as the charismatic secondary characters. Jace and Ash's stories are going to be just as good. There was a nice little side story with Gabe's parents that added a sweet vulnerability to Gabe that I felt really softened him as a character. Lots and lots of hot sex all over the place. Gabe was insatiable and Mia loved him and wanted nothing more than to please him. She was brave to take the chance and put her self out there for him. His groveling and proving himself in the end was super swoon-worthy. So glad she wasn't a push over. The timing of finally coming together in the end was just right. Looking forward to the next one!(less)

These books rock! I've followed all of Lauren Dane's series and the continuity and detail is near perfect!
I just have to say.... Molly Ryan is a badass, rockin, awesome heroine. She was my total hero in this book! She was strong and confident and fearless and an amazing addition to the Owen clan. I just could not stop cheering for her. She was such a great character. I felt empowered every time she got in front of someone and tore them apart with her clever rhetoric. Props to the author for crazy good dialogue and detail. Along with all her strength was a woman who was soft hearted and vulnerable around the edges. She held it together when she needed to and had to learn to let it go when she needed to let someone else step in and take care of her too. Gage was a perfect match for her. She could stand up to him and hold her own with him. I absolutely loved their chemistry and of course their sexy love scenes. I haven't read a story with a couple so well matched in a long time. She could easily put him in his place, even when she was hurting but also be open and receptive to him as well. She wasn't one of those irritating stubborn females that dig their heels in to the bittersweet last two pages of the book. LD's characters connect early on and work their way through their bumps in the road all along the way. Its a much more enjoyable ride.
Always great to connect with the rest of the characters from past stories and can't wait for future books as well. One of my favorite lines, "...But your right and I'm sorry for being such a jerky dookie head."... Priceless stuff. So many laugh out loud paragraphs I had to highlight them in my Kindle. Dont miss this whole series, just start with book 1!!(less)

I've been waiting to find out what Raven's story was going to be like. She's always been a hard-ass and I knew there were reasons why. But I still disliked her sometimes in past stories. She really came through more real in this book. She and Jonah were very well matched. It was disconcerting to see her emotion and vulnerability since she's always hidden it so well.
Always love to reconnect with the family and past characters! This was a fantastic story as usual. I absolutely loved how she put the smack-down on anyone who gave her a hard time. She wasn't afraid of Jonah's snobby family and she gained respect from them. Love the Warner brothers... are we going to morph into a Warner sibling series? Would love it!! Keep 'em coming!! (less)

I love the world of New Species that LD has built. What woman wouldn't want her species mate to want her, desire her, need her so much that they are cherished beyond all reason...? These species are crazy in love with their mates and can't stand to be apart from them for long. They need to have their scent all over them. They are beautiful and buffalicious! Super strong and yet marshmallowy soft in between.
Moon's story is so sweet and tragic. I love how she shows up to help him at all cost and admits her love for him. Even in his "crazed" state of mind he was reaching for her and it was very emotional. Its always great to see the other characters again and see how they are doing. I love Justice and how understanding he is with Moon and his behavior. These are special people and its sweet, yummy, hilarious, hot and just plain fun to read about how they are learning and evolving in their new world. Love it!(less)
