Sometimes the previous bad guys have been REALLY twisted. This time we got a crazy set of doctors who were killing homeless people. Shrug. Kinda been done. Still like Eve, though. And it was kinda nice to see her be so vulnerable to Roark. Is he awesome or what? ;)(less)

His life shouldn't have to ALWAYS take a back seat to Eve's. It's also nice to see Eve continue to grow and let Roarke into her life. Sometimes heroines get stuck and don't change for an annoyingly long time. Thankfully Eve is not like that. (less)

Much like Ayn Rand did with Atlas Shrugged, it seems like Brown used his latest book as soapbox from which to preach.
Once he settled down and got to the story, it wasn't too bad. Nothing totally blew my mind though. I will admit that Noetics sounds like an interesting, if controversial, field of study, but I didn't believe for one click of half a second that Robert Langdon was actually dead. The biggest shock of the book was who Mal'akh turned out to be. Even that, though, didn't completely knock my socks off.

This book gets a five simply based on the fact that Steph and Ranger finally hooked up!!!!! (Happy dance...) I heart Ranger (Morelli, Schmorelli), and even though I understand that Ranger is totally unwilling and able to commit and not only is he likely to rip my heart out, crushing it to smithereens at any given moment, he may also suddenly disappear into some third world jungle never to be heard from again.
I'm sure the rest of the story was good, too. Plus, this one was read by CJ Critt, who is my favorite reader. :)
An all around enjoyable experience. Thanks Janet Evanovich!(less)

I kind of felt like they were two entirely separate characters. Also, maybe it was because the story was set in Quebec and not DC that made things weirder.
That said, the story was still highly engrossing - and creepy. A little more gory than I'm used to, but it was hard to put down. Excellent first start. It looks like the second one might be more what I'm looking for b/c it starts in North Carolina. Will have to read it and see. (less)

Parts of it were frustrating - like when women allow themselves to supplanted by other women in order to supposedly get to Heaven via plural marriage. Ugh. I couldn't really give a flip about a dead guy found on some drug dealers property. Maybe it's callous, but the dead guy made his choices as do the botanists, so why should I care who killed him?
Please tell me it gets better...
And...it doesn't. This book was a great idea and it had the potential to be good, if the authors had been more concerned about the shape and development of the book more than their petty vendettas against hated characters and plot points. Plus Mr. Hayward used extremely large words that I was going to mercilessly mock here, but now I find I don't care enough to try. Maybe instead of writing about getting high, they just should have done it and called it a day (ok, so I still had a little mocking in me...) (less)

It was a nice twist - which shall remain unmentioned - with Peabody's brother, but the rest was a little much.
Also - interesting that the book mentioned the Twin Towers as a terrorist target. Obviously, seeing as how the towers are already gone, they won't be in Eve's world in 2058. They've been gone for over a decade and it's still weird when they pop up in movies and books.
Also, in reading #9 and #10 concurrently I had to really work to keep my stories straight. Probably not my best idea, but I did finish #9 first and I've got the last fourth to go on #10. (less)
