Here are two historical romances that will curl your toes and make your heart pound as you read about how love can conquer all.
In Love’s Revenge you will root for Sophie and Quentin’s happily ever after throughout the novel because you will come to admire their courage and bond. If you love a strong, brooding hero than Quentin Blackwell, Earl of Devlyn is your man. He starts this novel as somewhat of a dark hero, bent on revenge but Sophie slowly changes all that. Slowly, his characters’ dark side is peeled away to show a generous and caring man. He is fiercely protective and you can’t help but love him for it. Meanwhile, Sophie is looking for an escape and see’s Quentin as the opportunity she needs. What starts out as an unusual alliance, becomes something much more precious. Through this, Sophie finds the strength and determination she lacked in the past to stand up for herself. She is a great heroine and one you can easily admire.
The heart of the story shows the perfect reflection of the novel’s title. It is in their quest for revenge where Sophie and Quentin realize their own sense of justice may not be as important as their growing feelings for one another. The subtle changes and feelings between these two characters and the importance of their original goals seems to fade seamlessly into the the background. It is at that point the novel completely captures your attention drawing you into the characters developments and beautifully showing how two people can change one another.
In Love’s Portrait Julia and Morgan make an impressive pair. Julia Westgard and Morgan St. Clair are both defensive people with issues trusting others, but their attraction to one another seems to overrule their judgment. Morgan has a notorious reputation as a benevolent lover, always controlling how his affairs begin and when they end. Surprisingly, Julia is a woman he discovers he desperately wants yet can’t have. Watching his frustrating in this novel is entertaining and inspiring. Mainly because he finds it difficult to hide his emotions and becomes the man Julia can easily fall in love with. Julia on the other hand, has escaped from a bitter past and has finally gained her independence. Which is why any attraction she feels towards Morgan scares her. Morgan threatens the security she has finally found but her resistance is futile. Julia begins to realize trusting a man worth loving is the only way to completely regain her life.
It is a fun journey watching these two delicate individuals fall in love. This passionate novel features two strong willed, independent people expecting a simple dalliance in passion, yet find a complicated love they can’t deny. In an interesting contrast, the couple have a light-hearted banter that is constantly entertaining. Yet at the heart of the story is a dazzling romance. The hesitation to give in to their emotions only makes their desire for one another stronger and Burns delivers a well crafted romance that exceed expectations.
This is an absolute steal at $0.99!! In both cases, Burns pens a delightful story with a simple, yet entertaining plot line. The heartfelt emotions and passion the characters share make it a satisfying journey. So if you are a fan of historical romance like me, consider this the best $0.99 you’ve ever spent! (less)

A WEDDING IN SPRINGTIME in an entertaining and delightful historical romance.
Miss Eugenia Talbot has made a less than stellar debut into society. An incident caused her to laugh in front of Her Majesty and now she is on the verge of ruin. Her Aunt is fraught with despair and insists she marry at once to avoid a huge scandal. Unfortunately, Eugenia has taken an interest in the most unattainable rake in all of London, William Grant. She wishes she could forget this dashing rogue, but he seems to keep surprising her at every corner. While William has lived a frivolous live, something in Miss Talbot is making him think of ways he wants to change. Now he has to decide if he should help Eugenia find the groom that will save her reputation or if he wants the role all for himself.
I simply loved this lighthearted romance. This novel was captivating from beginning to end. Amanda Forester has started her Marriage Mart series off right with A WEDDING IN SPRINGTIME and will leave readers yearning for more. In this novel you have an overall plot that is very brief on the drama, but certainly supplies plenty of intrigue. All the characters work well together and support a romance novel that will take your breath away.
The most hilarious aspect of this novel has to be William Grant. He desperately wanted to stay away from Eugenia, but each chapter found him seeking her out again and again. His bewilderment at his budding infatuation with her would be his undoing and I have to say I enjoyed reading it. It left him in knots and unable to focus, which you quickly realize, is the complete opposite of his character. He was a refreshing take on the historical hero. Eugenia is a simple heroine, but unique just the same. On the outside, she is just a young lady trying to follow the rules. She wants a quiet life, but everything seems to be working against her. She isn't really rebellious, but she has a very quick wit and a level head. This made her conversations with William highly enjoyable whether they were dripping in sarcasm or achingly emotional. Their banter and dialogue together made their attraction much more fascinating.
The only hiccup in the entire story for me was the physical intimacy near the end. It left just a small shadow on what was so far an impeccable hero. His perfection dimmed just a little bit in my eyes. I'm sure to most historical readers that it would be absolutely nothing at all, but to this reader it was a little bump in the road. Even so, it hardly dampens the overall joy I had reading this novel. I still had so much fun reading every page and learning more about these delightful characters.
This is my first Amanda Forester novel and it most certainly will not be my last. This detailed and inviting romance is highly entertaining and certain to make you smile. An added bonus is the parallel story between two other secondary characters that I'm hoping will be explored more in the next novel. Ms Forester gives you just enough to tease at the beginnings of a sweet relationship but leaves the ending unresolved.
All in all, A WEDDING IN SPRINGTIME is light on the drama until the end, but that only gives readers more time to focus on the charming, unique romance at its core. I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely romance and the characters within. If historical romance readers are looking for an engaging, sweet and beautiful romance, A WEDDING IN SPRINGTIME is the novel you want.

LADY VIVIAN DE...moreIt should come as no surprise that Samantha Grace has delivered another priceless historical romance to complete her Beau Monde series. LADY VIVIAN DEFIES A DUKE is a beautiful regency romance that will delight readers with clever and charming characters.
Lady Vivian Worth is not the conventional lady. She swims in her chemise, shoots a pistol and rides a horse surprisingly well. Yet she is willing to give up her frivolous life when Luke Forest, Duke of Foxhaven, makes her his wife. Her brother and Luke's father arranged this marriage years ago and Vivan is eager to fulfil her duty. Her reputation was nearly ruined from a scandal during her youth which her brother went to great lengths to hide. If her bridegroom discovers her secret, Vivian fears her last and only option would be to take the veil.
Lady Vivian is unaware though, that Luke is on his way to break their engagement for other reasons. He doesn't want to settle down in marriage, he wants adventure instead. Yet when he first happens upon Vivian swimming in the lake like a beautiful young water sprite, he wonders if she is the amiable and demure woman that was described to him. Luke sets out to find Vivian another husband, but quickly realizes she may be all the excitement and adventure he needs.
I've probably said this before, but it bears repeating...I love the way Samantha Grace's novels progress. The pace of the romance develops beautifully and doesn't leave readers desperately hanging on until the last page for a fulfilling conclusion. The unique combination of drama and lightness remain throughout, but the feelings are develop in a realistic manner and are not withheld. Her romances are about first discovering love and then showing that couple working through the external drama together to find their happily ever after. It's always been a perfect match for me.
Vivian and Luke's courtship is sweet and delightful. There is much humor and playfulness to be found between these two protagonists that you can't help but enjoy every page of it. Mainly because the two of them together make the perfect couple. Luke on the one hand is a bit of a tortured hero. An accident left him with a slight disability, so he feels his role as the Duke of Foxhaven no longer suits him. I have to admit there was a great appeal to his character because he desperately wants to break out of the normal expectations for a man of his status. He didn't want to be the stuffy duke and desired more from his life.
Well, at least Luke thought he wanted more from life. When he finally meets Vivian, readers are introduced to a cunning and spirited woman discovering her place in the world and knocking Luke off his feet. She's a strong heroine, but she also shares a great vulnerability. Before she even met Luke, she knew he was her last hope. Ms Grace tells her story beautifully by describing a woman that does what she must, yet still can't give up her love for life. Her vitality is what makes her so appealing and gives readers a heroine they can adore.
Samantha Grace has a great way with dialogue and easily expresses her characters throughout in LADY VIVIAN DEFIES A DUKE. Each one has a strikingly different personality and you can tell this author takes great time and effort to make it show. Of course this makes the characters even more endearing and makes you wish the book would never end. Unfortunately, LADY VIVIAN DEFIES A DUKE is the last installment of the Beau Monde series, but there is no reason you have to read the first installments if you have not had a chance to yet. Each novel can be read as a stand alone or the series can be read in order. Characters from previous novels make appearances but not long enough to confuse or distract the main story.
A stellar ending to a stellar series, LADY VIVIAN DEFIES A DUKE is yet another winner from Samantha Grace. Historical romance readers will find another passionate, thrilling and humorous tale within the pages of this novel. This unconventional couple will leave you grinning ear to ear as you watch them fall in love. Be prepared for your heart to flutter and to enjoy a good laugh because LADY VIVIAN DEFIES A DUKE has it all and more. Historical romance fans should not miss this one.

Julianne MacLean has added an absolutely gem to her Pembroke Palace series.
The Duke of Pembroke needs all of his sons married before Christmas or a horrible curse will plague them and they will lose their inheritance forever. The latter being the most devastating to the sons, they strive to make sure this doesn't happen. Which is why they turn to the devastatingly beautiful Lady Anne Douglas with an intriguing proposition—marry their brother Lord Garrett Sinclair in name only and be rewarded handsomely.
Garrett has agreed to return home after a seven-year absence to endure such a scam and save his inheritance despite the fact that he hoped to never see Pembroke again. Meanwhile, faced with the possibility of gaining enough wealth to manage her own independence, Anne finds their offer impossible to refuse. Yet the more time she spends with her fiancé during their two-week engagement, the stranger their arrangement becomes. While she originally agreed to sacrifice a few weeks of her life for unlimited independence, she may end up sacrificing her heart.
A few little things I loved about this story—it was just the right length for a novella. It's not too short and was not too long; it was just enough to get to know the characters and experience their story while being just a bit shorter than a full-length novel. Also, it was an incredibly sweet story. The two protagonists were very hurt by experiences in their past and they quickly realize they can depend on each other. Even though the reasons they were brought together are far from ordinary, I thought their romance was developed very nicely and it was wonderful to read about their journey. After a certain point, I just couldn't put it down because I was desperate to learn about their happily ever after.
I adored Anne for a variety of reasons. One, because of her tendency to be completely understanding. It was interesting to see how she adapted to any situation and never overreacted. She was very sensible seeking out the logic of every situation. Garrett had a little bit of a dark side, which I loved. This tortured hero was haunted by demons of his past and it was heartbreakingly beautiful to watch his relationship with Anne banish his nightmares. I really enjoyed reading about a character that came from such a prestigious family, yet still feels like an outsider. Especially since this novel wasn't just about his finding love, but healing old family wounds as well. It made his character much more complex in such a brief story and much more interesting.
For historical fans that love a sweet and charming romance, this is a must read. Mainly because you wouldn't want to pass up a great story. Also because if you haven't been introduced to the various works of Julianne MacLean, like me, this would be a great start. With MARRIED BY MIDNIGHT being my first journey into the world of Pembroke Place, I have to say I want more! I loved the romance, I loved the characters and simply enjoyed reading the whole story. Julianne MacLean has a gripping prose that takes you into the characters' lives and makes it impossible for you to want to leave. MARRIED BY MIDNIGHT is a spectacular historical romance!
