Macy Beckett wraps up her delightful series about a charming Texas town with an emotionally heavy installment featuring Sultry's resident bad boy, Colt Bea.
Ten years is a long time to try and get over a girl, but as much as Colt drinks and sleeps his way around town, he can't forget the girl that slipped away. As sheriff of Sultry Springs, he's trying to tame his sinful ways and forget the past, but the only girl he has ever loved arrives back in Sultry Springs to tempt him once again. Leah McMahon is just here to take care of her father after his surgery and then she plans to walk out of Sultry for the second time in ten years. Yet everywhere she turns, she can't seem to escape Colt. The man is trying desperately to worm his way back into Leah's heart, but she can't and won't let that happen again. As Leah realizes Colt has dropped his bad boy ways, she begins to fall again, not for the boy he was, but for the man he's become. But Leah has a serious and devastating secret. If Colt ever finds out, she may as well kiss their happily ever after goodbye.
I have to say this novel was a pretty big disappointment for me, and I could not seem to shake it. Don't get me wrong. I loved, loved, loved the first two installments of the series, but this one just left me frustrated. Without giving anyway any major plot points, Leah has a HUGE secret. So big it eclipses most of the story. I felt this secret was the ultimate betrayal and one I just couldn't forgive. The hero and heroine most definitely share a rocky past, but I felt all the past sins of the relationship paled in comparison to hers. Colt eventually forgives her and of course it's not a big surprise they figure out a way to have their happily ever after, but I was left feeling frustrated by the whole situation. The problem and the resolution left me feeling very unhappy because if I was treating this as a probable type of reality, this situation would never work for me.
After I consider my biggest complaint, it's not fair for me to say I completely disliked this story. I did love and enjoy a good part of it. Colt has been my favorite character from the very beginning and he had a great chance to shine in this novel. He was first introduced as a troubled womanizer, but this book begins with Colt's first steps to redemption. I enjoyed reading his various attempts to sweep Leah off her feet. His words and actions were all made in an effort to keep her in Sultry permanently, which meant he pulled out all the stops for the romance. He had a chance to show a more sentimental and sensitive side, especially when he was interacting with his adorable little niece.
All the classic and loveable details readers have come to love from Ms Beckett are there, so it's highly unlikely fellow readers will share my objections. Fans of the Sultry gang will rejoice when they revisit these quirky and humorous characters. Yet even if you haven't read the first two books, you can still start with SURRENDER TO SULTRY. This contemporary romance doesn't depend on the details of the first book to let you enjoy the final installment of the series. Macy Beckett does a great job of keeping the focus on the main couple, yet still keeping the details familiar, as if you have known Sultry Springs your whole life. Still, I wouldn't discourage you from checking out the first two, mostly because I think both of those books were near perfection. I truly wish I could say the same for SURRENDER TO SULTRY, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. Personal objections aside, it's still an enjoyable story, but not the five star excellence I've come to expect.

With exciting characters, great small town charm and a leading couple with electric chemistry, A SHOT OF SULTRY is a must read contemporary romance!
The last place Bobbi Gallagher expected to end up for the summer was Sultry Springs, Texas. Yet a few career mishaps had led her to a depressing job filming a reality TV show about two Southern studs finding love. One of these gorgeous guys just happens to be Trey Lewis, the best friend of Bobbi's brother. Bobbi didn't expect it to be such a challenge to resist the blond-haired brute, but she is at a loss to explain why Trey has occupied her thoughts far too often. Trey has been forbidden by Bobbi's brother to make a move on the long-legged beauty but he's finding that promise is impossible to keep. He's falling hard and fast for Bobbi but the fact that he's leaving Sultry Springs at the end of the summer may just destroy their chance at ‘happily ever after.'
I do love the world of Sultry Springs. This latest novel by Macy Beckett, A SHOT OF SULTRY, delivers the right amount of Southern hospitality mixed with perfect characters in a town you simply never want to leave. With only two books now under her belt, Ms Beckett writes this story as if she were a well-seasoned author, giving you a great romance to adore and two protagonists developed so exceptionally well you can't help but fall in love as they fall in love.
One thing you can tell with plenty of certainty is that Bobbi and Trey share an absolutely exciting chemistry. They continually flirt and tease each other to no end. Their stolen moments are intense and very passionate. It makes you wonder why your book isn't too hot to hold. While their sexual tension is great, Bobbi and Trey's banter is where you can really tell how well the dialogue is executed. It can make you laugh, make you cry and make you sigh in absolute rapture. It was a lot of fun and delightful to experience as a reader because it made the book more than romantic. This is of course expanded by the lovely world Ms Beckett has created known as Sultry Springs.
It's amazing how much these characters grow on you in such a short amount of time. I loved the first novel and part of the reason I loved this novel just as much is because I had the opportunity to visit these characters again. Bobbi's brother Luke from book one is wandering the pages with his wife June and terrorizing everyone with their newlywed bliss. Meanwhile, the other townspeople are using their adorable, meddling ways to play matchmaker for Bobbi and Trey. A SHOT OF SULTRY also develops Colten's character more thoroughly since his book is scheduled to be released next. You get a few brief opportunities to understand his character's dark past, but just enough to tease and entice you to want more.
Don't' miss out on this fun, sassy contemporary romance. A SHOT OF SULTRY has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and sizzling sexual chemistry. Bobbi and Trey's romance is emotional yet overall a great heartwarming tale. You can certainly read this novel without having read the first, but I wouldn't recommend it. This universe is simply too perfect to pass up the experience of Ms Beckett's first novel, Sultry With A Twist. Plus, it will make this latest trip to Sultry Springs even more enjoyable. It's easy to take the risk with Macy Beckett's A SHOT OF SULTRY, because you will love it and simply won't regret it.

Complicated family matters overwhelm the story, but overall, COWBOY TOUGH is a sassy contemporary romance.
Cat Crendall needs a miracle...and quick. Leading a western art retreat is her last shot at a big break and she has to make it work, no matter what. If she ever wants to fulfill her dream of traveling the world to paint, she has to make the journey a success. She soon finds out the family behind the ranch they are staying at needs this to work just as badly. Meanwhile, one particular cowboy has really caught her attention.
Macy Boyd has a successful career bronc riding, but one phone call from his mother had him heading back home. Now that his family is on the verge of losing everything, he's come back to help make their ranch a retreat for budding artists. Yet it's the leader of their group that's got him all tied up in knots. Cat is everything Mack isn't, but that doesn't stop Mack from trying to seduce this sassy artist. They may be different, but their passionate attraction may lead to something more emotional than either of them could have ever planned for.
What I loved about COWBOY TOUGH was the romance between Mack and Cat. These two protagonists were complete opposites yet seeing their personalities combine was thrilling. Mack has the smooth western charm and a gentle heart whereas Cat was the sophisticated city girl with an old soul. There was no obvious reason to think they would make a great couple, but Ms Kennedy crafts a beautiful courtship that displays a perfect match. They share absolutely scorching chemistry that is impossible to ignore. It makes COWBOY TOUGH a very sexy and spicy romance that is not for the faint of heart.
Probably my least favorite aspect of the novel would have to be Cat's relationship with her niece. It was very uncomfortable and hard to understand. You learn that Cat's niece is working through the grief accompanied from the recent loss of her mother, but it just wasn't developed enough to understand. You jump right into their family drama and it isn't pretty. One minute you feel sympathetic for one character and pages later you experience how ridiculous they were acting. It related well to the overall bond between Mack and Cat, but too many minor details fell apart and it just became awkward. It added drama in all the wrong places.
You can't have a western romance without the sparkling secondary characters. Kennedy does add a wild bunch to COWBOY TOUGH, both city born and down home bred. While you won't love them all, they all have a purpose. Whether they make you laugh out loud or sneer in disgust, they all add fun and drama to the story. What stands out the most and what makes the story, is that despite their different backgrounds, Ms Kennedy creates the perfect makeshift family. All the characters learn to care for each other and grow because of their shared experiences.
If you're looking for a light-hearted contemporary romance with a charming western flare, COWBOY TOUGH is a great pick. Joanne Kennedy always delivers a striking romance with captivating characters. This novel throws you into a beautiful world and lets you fall in love with the Wild West again. Some of the family dynamic was a bit too much for me, but looking at the overall picture, this novel was an engaging read. This classic tale of opposites attract was well written with great characters and scorching passion. Plus, it's hard not to fall in love with a sexy, rugged cowboy.

Admirand is not only a fabulous contemporary romance, but a fantastic start to a new series. This small town romance has a fabulous couple and a lot of heart.
Daniel Eagen's drive into Apple Grove, Ohio was to be the beginning of a new start. After a bad break up that broke his heart, he was hoping the job as the new physical education teacher at Apple Grove High School would change his life. Yet before he even makes it to his new home, he rescues a beautiful young woman falling off a fence rail. Their attraction is instant and their budding relationship is the best piece of gossip in town.
Megan Mulcahy can ignore the gossip, but she can't ignore her overwhelming feelings for Dan. She knows things are moving a little too fast, but he has made her feel alive for the first time in a long while. The only problem is Dan keeps putting the brakes on anything that is developing between them. As frustrating as it seems, Meg has to decide if she can wait for Dan to forget his ex or if she needs to move on to greener pastures.
You read A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE for the romance, but become enchanted by all the other characters. Whether it was Meg's family or all the residents of Apple Grove, they are what made this book an absolute gem. They all had unique personalities that were both charming and entertaining. It's such a diverse group of people, you can pick at least one or more characters that reminds you of a person in your own life. The gossip mill which lets news travel is so much fun to experience. It's not something that is malicious, but all done in fun and concern. It demonstrates how much the community loves each other and helps each other out. It's the perfect set up to experience the best of small towns.
With great characters comes great dialogue. Ms Admirand knows how to craft the perfect scene and interaction between her characters. Plenty of the Apple Grove residents have the spunky, vibrant attitude that makes you laugh. They are quirky people and the way they communicate with one another is very entertaining. Especially Dan and Meg. Their flirtatious manner with one another will have you smiling from ear to ear. The first time they meet, you get to experience just how hot the sparks are flying between them and it was definitely an excellent start to this romance novel. Really, their romance goes full speed ahead from there. They are a very sexy couple and they ignite the pages with their shared passion. There are a few hiccups with Dan and the trouble he has committing which is really the only major conflict in their relationship. His problems can become a little frustrating after a few chapters, but of course it all turns out okay in the end.
A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE is an easy-going, fun read. There isn't a lot of drama or tension, it really is a light read, which I appreciated. There is just so much to love about this novel whether it be the romance, the small town or the charming characters. C.H. Admirand has started a great series by creating memorable characters that you want to visit again and again. A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE just goes to prove that Ms Admirand is a great storyteller and has much to offer. I highly recommend this novel if you are looking for a truly heartwarming contemporary romance.

Mae June July Augustine has worked incredibly hard to achieve her dream of running her own upscale bar. Yet devastating news hits when she finds out there is problem with her liquor license because of legal issue back in her hometown. June left Sultry Springs, Texas four years ago and never looked back because a man broke her heart. Now she's forced to go back for one month of community service working with that same insufferable man who is just as gorgeous as he was back then. Yet Luke Gallagher has changed in other ways because he's certainly not the same young boy she once knew so well. As they relive old memories and ignite old flames once again, June realizes running away from Sultry Springs this time may not be so easy.
I absolutely adored this second chance romance and debut novel by Macy Beckett. Everything about it was fantastically perfect. You have entertaining characters, an amusing yet touching story and a satisfying happily ever after. This novel lacked for nothing and gives readers everything they could possibly want in a romance and more. SULTRY WITH A TWIST easily conveys that small town quirkiness that you will fall in love with and adore. The characters and setting also give way to many hilarious moments with the novel that are ‘laugh out loud' funny.
June was the typical small town girl. Being born and raised in Sultry, she eventually found herself desperate to get away. When she finally does, she becomes ecstatic, thinking she'll never have to go back. Yet when she finally does, she starts to remember everything she loved best. She was always in control of a situation, but always ready to accept the situation and go with the flow. I enjoyed reading about the character that was confident outside of Sultry, yet hesitant and uncertain whenever she was there. She was so absolute and determined when it came to her feelings for Luke. I admired how her character gave her all towards everything she set out to accomplish...including capturing Luke's heart.
Luke was such a great down-to-earth hero. He had such a great heart, but was scared to risk falling in love. His insecurities showed you that he really was a tortured soul and it made you love his character even more. What was even more touching was how he took care of everyone in this small town. This gentle nature was present in everything he did, day in and day out. Of course, his concern extended to June. The way he would try to care and protect her was absolutely charming. Luke really tried to portray a tough exterior, but Ms Beckett just delivered so many perfect scenes that gave you little glimpses of his fun loving and sensitive side. He was completely captivating and consumed a large part of my attention throughout the novel.
The secondary characters in this novel provide so much fun and entertainment that you will certainly miss them when this story is through. I look forward to more of their witty remarks and colorful conversations in future installments. These characters, especially June's Grandmother and Luke's best friend, add so much to the world Ms Beckett creates and really encourages that small town feel.
SULTRY WITH A TWIST is such a fun novel that I never wanted it to end. I put the book down once and the next time I picked it up, I stayed up well into the night to finish it. The engaging writing and stunning characters blind you from focusing on anything else but Luke and June's romance. Ms Beckett does a fabulous job of describing the passion between Luke and June. While there is plenty of humor and fun, you still can find plenty of emotional depth. The protagonists have to face their dark pasts and overcome a few obstacles along the way, so their journey isn't all fun and games. The author easily weaves in their past, giving you details along the way that explain their connection yet still leaving enough mystery to keep the story interesting. The final conclusion though is that Macy Beckett's opening novel in the Sultry Springs series is a winner! SULTRY WITH A TWIST is one of the best contemporary romances I've ever read. I absolutely loved it!

Her second release in the Phoenix Rising series, BLAZE, is just as incredible as the first. This series is non-stop action, adventure and romance! Readers will love every minute of it!
Keira O'Shay has felt a strong connection to a young boy named Mateo and she is determined to find him and bring him home. Even with her unique abilities, she can't explain why. She just knows she has to save him from evil clutches of a vicious man at any cost. When her FBI team accepts help from an ATF agent, she cannot believe her eyes when she discovers that agent is Luke Ransom...the man who broke her heart three years ago.
Luke let Keira walk out of his like three years ago and he's regretted it ever since. Being side by side again has awakened buried powers and old feelings. Though they can't forget the reasons that pulled them apart, they also can't deny their strong connection. Now that they have rescued the young boy, they realize his unique powers are coveted by dangerous men. Realizing a government conspiracy may be at work, they have no other choice but to run in order to save their lives. When they finally stop, Luke and Keira may have to face the possibility of a future together because their passion blazes too hot to be ignored.
A thrilling and ultimately scorching story is again delivered by Ms Swan. BLAZE has everything readers loved from the first novel, Fever, and more. This novel picks up right where Fever left off, focusing on the same group of ex-firefighters that went in to fight a fire five years ago and came out with unique and inhuman capabilities. The complex intricacies of this government conspiracy will set your mind whirling, yet delight you with the delicious adventure that is in store. BLAZE is a fast paced, engaging adventure that takes you on a wild journey. Ms Swan builds the suspense and makes the passion simmer, all the while drawing you further in with each chapter. Once again, readers are thrown into this chaotic world where there are few people you can trust in this dangerous game of cat and mouse.
Luke was absolutely dreamy! He was an all or nothing kind of guy and when he gave his heart to Keira, he went all in. The most romantic and passionate part of this novel was his unwavering feelings for her. There was something so incredibly sexy about him knowing who and what he wanted and never backing down. He had an interesting charm that made him a fabulous hero. Not only did he have the strength and power to fight the bad guys, but the compassion and tenderness to support Keira when she needed it the most. He was the ultimate package.
I did have a problem with this book that I did not find in the first and that was a periodic annoyance with Keira. Her hesitation to completely give herself over to Luke was completely justifiable, but her constant ‘yo-yo' emotions started to drive me crazy after a while. It was one too many trips back and forth with her character. Which led me to the second problem...by the last page I did not feel there was enough stability between the two characters to believe their ending. The one bright side to this problem is that most likely Luke and Keira will continue to make appearances in future installments of the series and put most of these fears to rest.
Small problems aside, she was still a great heroine. Keira had a fire in her that no one could extinguish. She was fierce warrior that didn't let anything get in her way. She was a lot like Luke in that perspective. One thing that appealed to me about their developing relationship was the shared ability that basically let them to read each other's minds. That little plot point added everything to the novel. It added great emotional depth, humorous scenes and fantastic insight into this tortured couple. I loved that aspect of their relationship tremendously.
Overall, BLAZE is a fantastic and suspenseful novel! Ms Swan has certainly hit the mark with this series and is showing no signs of slowing down. This exciting story will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat and reveling in the mad journey of it all. You have everything you could possibly want in this series with a large, impassioned group of people that fight relentlessly to protect one another. Through the drama of it all is the sexy, passionate romance that makes the pages sizzle. All this must mean that Ms Swan has only begun to take readers on one hell of a ride!

Readers looking for a super sexy read may love this erotic romance, but may not be completely satisfied with the journey.
Haley Tillman needs a man. Her quiet, timid life has gotten the best of her, and now all she craves is a nice roll in the sheets with a gorgeous man. Just as soon as that thought crosses her mind, her doorbell rings and on the other side of the door is a sexy cowboy. Ryder is a nephilim—half angel, half human—and ready to answer her very dirty prayer. Yet after a few scorching encounters, Ryder is pushing Haley to expose a side of herself the world has never seen. Mortals have always fascinated Ryder, but Haley is exceptionally captivating and he wants nothing more than to convince her what a beautiful goddess she is. Answering Haley's prayer may be more than Ryder bargained for, because he's beginning to realize he wants more from her than he can ever have.
This novel really left me speechless. It started out really strong but somewhere along the way became very confusing. This wasn't really a journey about finding romance, but Haley's journey of obtaining self-confidence. It certainly is an interesting ride because I didn't exactly agree with all of Ryder's methods to bring out this self-confidence. Haley was forced to do some really outrageous things to please Ryder. In the end, it was all supposed to make her feel like a more beautiful person. Yet all the changes on the outside made her unrecognizable to her family and friends and I was disappointed that this journey to self-discovery resulted in such a physical change.
I had no doubt in my mind that these two characters were strongly attracted to each other. Yet what I could not conclude by the end was whether these two felt anything else for each other beyond the lust. That particular detail was very frustrating for me as a romance reader. A lot of questions were left unanswered or else you were supposed to make your own conclusions. The novel is sexy, and there are plenty of scenes to prove that point. If you are looking for a sexy read, this may scratch the itch. But if you want a tad bit more emotional involvement, this may not be everything you are expecting. Sex? Yes. Romance? Not really. I wouldn't judge this aspect of WHEN THERE'S A WILL if it wasn't vaguely implied. I was expecting a happily ever after because the author implied the need for one. I don't feel that this novel provides it...in more than one way.
I also never truly fell in love with the characters. Haley's emotions were a dangerous roller coaster ride. One page she would be ready to strut her new sexy side, yet the next page would describe her crawling back into her shell. Her thoughts were repetitive...she would make the exact same comments (word for word) about one of her attributes two or three times throughout the story. A few times the sympathy you were supposed to extend to her character would walk that fine line towards pity and that was a hard pill for me to swallow.
Ryder was always, and I mean always, thinking about sex. Yes, I know it's an erotic novel but it was rare he thought about anything else involving Haley which in turn meant he rarely had any time to think about any romantic feelings towards her. This fact didn't really help the romance and didn't make the tricky ending very clear. Another point was that I really wanted to learn more about his character, but the novel ended before it could go very far. I haven't read the first book in this series, so that could have made a difference if I had read it before WHERE THERE'S A WILL.
As WHERE THERE'S A WILL progressed, there was always some detachment that I felt from their story. The sexy parts were too soon and everything else after that seemed out of place. It wasn't all bad though. Karen Kelley writes some excellent and scorching hot love scenes that cater to many different fantasies. Her paranormal twists were unique and many lines were laugh out loud funny. Ms Kelley has a great talent for writing light, comical dialogue. The writing itself was solid and enjoyable to read; it's just that some parts of the story development left more to be desired. The point is, even though this particular story didn't hit the mark with me, I would not hesitate to try another of Ms Kelley's stories.

Judi Fennell's latest novel MAGIC GONE WILD! This novel is a zany and sexy magic carpet ride!
Nirvana ‘Vana' Aphrodite is a genie with a problem. She can't seem to get her powers under control and she's been stuck in her master's attic for decades. Eventually, her peace is disturbed by the great-grandson of her previous master and she is more than a little shocked by how utterly yummy he looks.
Pro football player Zane Harrison can't believe he found a real genie in the attic of his great-grandfather's home. Finally all the mysterious accidents that ruined his family's reputation have been explained and it's all thanks to this mischief-making genie. All Zane wants to do is clean up the house to make it ready to sell, and that includes kicking out the gorgeous genie. Yet Vana isn't willing to go without a fight. She wants to prove the house has more value to Zane than he realizes and that there is more than just magic between the two of them.
If you want a simple comparison, it's most likely the contemporary reboot of the classic 60's show ‘I Dream of Genie.' You have a genie always getting into mischief as her magic powers continue to go awry. Then there is the successful hero constantly becoming frustrated over the broken magic yet trying to remain supportive. Just like the TV show, it was a lot of fun and entertaining to read about. This isn't a heavy read, but something you can jump right into and enjoy. Ms Fennell creates some great characters and takes them on a wild adventure that engages the reader right from the beginning. While MAGIC GONE WILD is book three in the Bottled Magic series, you are still able to pick up this novel without having read the first two. Having not previously read any of Ms Fennell's work, there weren't too many details to hint this was even part of a series. So this is easily a stand alone novel.
It wasn't all perfect, though. My problem with MAGIC GONE WILD was the heroine, genie extraordinaire, Vana. She is a woman that's been alive for centuries yet sometimes she acted a little juvenile. She made a lot of impulsive decisions that I didn't always agree with and in return I didn't feel it always showed her character in the best light. I expected her to have imperfections, as I prefer for the characters to have flaws, but I felt hers did not fit her character. Yet other than a few minor problems, she was a loving, tenderhearted woman always trying to do what she thought was best. In a way, she did kind of mature through this novel and found ways to stand up for herself. So it wasn't necessarily all bad and it didn't ruin the overall enjoyment of the novel.
Zane Harrison was a great hero because he was so understanding. He lost his temper a few times, understandably so, but he was always quick to realize his mistakes. It was nice to see a hero that was constantly ready to let his softer side show and never too tough to apologize. He didn't like Vana's magic going crazy, but rather than dislike her for it, he wanted to encourage her to do better. I thought that told a lot of about his character and what an honorable guy he truly was. Also, being a football player there was always a lot of fight and determination for anything he started. There weren't many reasons to not like Zane!
I have to say the overall premise of the novel was cute. The plot did start to jump around about halfway through, so it became a little chaotic, but it was still a lot of fun. Another plus to this story is the romance between Zane and Vana because it was absolutely stunning. Ms Fernnell definitely found creative ways to make their attraction sizzle and took their sexual tension to the extreme. This romance story had its own unique brand of enchantment and Judi Fennell's exciting writing and dialogue made the story addictive.
If you are looking for a charming contemporary with a magical twist, check out MAGIC GONE WILD. It's a laugh out loud read with plenty of funky characters to help you enjoy the ride.
