As it happens usually with any book you will come with a one question and leave with a hundred other answers . This book is so to speak has become my crucial material of understanding of Western culture, feminism, and consumerism that shapes it. Her analysis about the body in the culture is incredible. She opens up and explores how feminism and feminine body affects the culture. Also, she points out to all dilemmas which comes with it. And most importantly how to counter all misperceptions in the society. Without any hesitation she points out how key social political figures can make differences. The most illuminating examples she brings about is Oprah Winfrey. When she was asked about the biggest achievement in her life .. she replied that she could manage to lose sixty-seven pounds on liquid diet. One of the highly respected and successful businesswoman declares that getting in shape was the biggest event of her life ?! Yeah, what a fancy shibboleth for the posterity :) (less)

In recounting the famous maxim "Know thyself" , I would have used -know your roots , know your history , the origins of your country. The very foundations of Republic you live in, and of course their founders , giant thinkers! Therefore , the best book for those fellas, cannot be found except this lengthy masterpiece.I have always been in search of one truly worthy book to read about Founding Fathers and the history of creation of this greatest experience in human history called America! What a book! This is a quintessential history of an adventurous life journey of one of the most important figures behind the creation of American Republic! In my view what makes this biography so valuable is author's extensive research in Adams Papers(his private correspondence) . Another beauty of this book that we can discover from their private letters how they lived those highly important and tumultuous revolutionary years and on. The insider knowledge of their characters, their thoughts on government, society, religion, righteousness, duty and on American liberalism . But most influential discovery for me was to see John Adams just as the second President, but as one the greatest diplomat of his time on the same pair as Benjamin Franklin. His thoughts on diplomacy are simply remarkable, and worth to remember. I think his intimate knowledge of European politics has tremendously helped in his decision making process on French Republic (after its revolution) which was very unstable and unpredictable. He strongly advocated peace , when it was much needed on the outset of newly born American Republic. And probably saved this country from very ambitious military officer Alexander Hamilton who was nicknamed as "Second Bonaparte" by Abigail Adams. Further on you you will discover for yourself more detailed descriptions of other Founding Fathers. Specifically what caught my attention is George Washington's farewell address, where he explicitly warned American public about party politics , how divided we will become if we follow only party lines rather than to try to fix current problems. And I should say without exaggeration we can still see it in resemblance in our modern day highly polarized party politics. Where representatives are highly respected for not bowing and regarded as a true patriots for not negotiating , not coming into agreement , rather than to come together with compromise and make things work. I strongly recommend this book for everyone and particularly for every self-respecting American. The benefit of all biographies and history annals primary objective is to remind , to teach and keep us out of making the same mistakes of past times. And should serve as a main example and the highest summit of inspiration. (less)
