I can't say much without giving a spoiler, but it would be great fun to discuss! I'll say this...I CAN'T see it ending this way, knowing what we know....but maybe I am naive.
Interesting, truly great book in its own way.(less)

What I truly appreciate: Keane stays true to all the historical data known about Mary Mallon, some of which appeared less than flattering, and lets us readers see her fully, sympathetically, and full of possibilities. Quite a unique tale, and I don't know where I moved from what seemed like a slow start to being completely captivated. Well done and strongly recommended. (less)

I love well-done, non-fiction graphic novels (cartoons? Not so much.) Check. I like materials that strive to project unbiased, fair coverage. Check. And, I love young adult/juvenile titles. Check. I truly can't go wrong with this series. I can't say that this was my favorite in Geary's series, nor can I say anything negative about it. My 5 star ranking may be a bit biased, bearing in mind all my aforementioned interests. But, this IS goood. (less)

You can tell he is not a perfect person and he does not pretend to be, which gives his voice credence and sympathy. At the same time, he knows the Word and he is pointed (yet loving) in his call to live your life as if you were striving to be a man or woman after God's own heart. Good stuff.(less)

I did not enjoy this book as much as the first two in the trilogy. Atretes was such a pain in the batootie...I don't know how many times (often on a single page) the words anger, angered, rage, hardened, etc could be used. It almost wore me out. I also felt like the author did not present a COMPLETEly biblical account of marriage. STILL--the story was quite engaging and went places I did not expect. It is a fascinating account of the early church and the power of Christ. Rivers is stellar. (less)

We just had visited Andersonville, and the place was fascinating, stark, sad and lovely....all wrapped up in one. But the complaints that some had -- that the story is told from various perspectives, namely -- were stumbling blocks for me. I did not expect this to be a stumbling block for me, but early on, the book changed perspective not every chapter, but as often as every paragraph or so. Some days I may be in a place to deal with this. But, alas, it was not today.(less)

The artwork provides a sinister feel and perfect fit with the oppressive tone and storyline. The plot revolves around Sasha, whose father, a Secret Service guard for Stalin, has been hauled off--neither he nor we are sure why (except that *we have the benefit of knowing both that "these things" happen in totalitarian regimes AND how Stalin's reign turns out). While Sasha's dream has been to join the Young Pioneers, we see his enthusiasm lessened as the story draws to an end, and his presumably orphaned world turned upside down. Occasionally, I wonder if some children's book which draw accolades would appeal more to youth or adults. I admit that I have this response to Breaking Stalin's Nose. I am not sure if some younger readers would "get" the naivete in Sasha's previous train of thought. But, then, I do not know. I could be totally wrong. I am eager for my 11 year old to read it and set me straight. As I mentioned, the artwork is awesome.(less)

I would have rather read it closer to the first in the series because I just ever so slightly forgot some of the details. I think every once in awhile the writing was not quite as even as I would have preferred. Good book, though.(less)

Gets under your skin and made me cry like a baby at the end, which is not usual for me with a book. Strongly recommend. Quick read too. Although it's YA/youth book, I'm not sure how much it would appeal to this age group. Not saying it wouldn't....just not sure.(less)
