I read this book because I served a mission in Thailand with the author and felt obligated. Since I'm not a lover of Mormon fiction, I was pleasantly surprised to actually have enjoyed it. I loved the narrator's sense of humor. Phyllis told me she did much research, although the publisher did not print all of her notes.(less)

Upon finishing "The Boy Who Dared," I wanted to read the account of Rudi Wobbe, a fellow conspirator against the Nazis. I appreciated the great respect that Rudi had for his friend Helmuth, who was executed by the Gestapo when he was 17 for distributing literature about the truth of the war. Rudi's prison term, his suffering, deprivations, beatings, hunger, and finally, his marriage after the war and emigration to the United States in 1953 are aptly covered. I honor both Rudi and Helmuth.(less)
