With a girl and her best friend who is a ghost, I was instantly drawn to see where this story would lead. I became hooked from the very first page. The story picks up right away and really never slows down the entire book. Jane goes from school freak to the envy of all girls, she learns about her ability, and even finds love along the way (in the form of friends, family and one hot boy! ) Jane's best friend and also ghost, was easy to like. Evan, his name was, has a history though, and needs Jane's help. But with no clue what shes going through, or that there even is a mission Jane has let Evan hang around long enough to not want him to leave now! She has to try and make the right decisions and choose to help him no matter what the consequecnces are and he just might have a reason to help her as well. I loved the importance of family and friends throughout this story. And I also loved that I could relate so well to all the characters.
I was reminded of the Mara Dyer series a LOT when reading this book. It has that same sense of spookiness and dark mystery, with a hot and steamy romance to go along with it :) I loved this book and would highly reccommend picking it up and giving it a shot, you wont want to put it down!(less)

This book is just as good, if not better than the second, picking up pretty much where the first book left off you are thrown right in the middle of yet another ghost dilemna. Connor and Jane's relationship is really put to the test in this book, causing all sorts of emotions to run through my mind. I was constantly flipping through each page just waiting for that next moment to find out what could possibly happen next!!! The ghosts in this book aren't as sweet and nice as Evan was and this forces Jane and Connor to really work hard to find out what it is that they are supposed to do to help this lost soul ( or souls ) to move on. All the pressure and danger really puts a strain on if Jane and Connor are really read to take all of this on themselves. And if their relationship can last... I felt sooo torn in this book, just wanting things towork themselves out, and those pesky ghosts to get lost! But alas it is just not that easy. I am left at the end just CRAVING for more the story, and to find out what is going to happen. PLEASE HURRY AND WRITE BOOK THREE!!!!! I am impatiently waiting. (less)

That refuses to be put down until we have consumed every last word from its delicious pages.. That one story that sticks with you even after you have finished the book and returned it carefully back to its home on a bookshelf with your other beloved stories. My mind is still wandering back to the land of Ravka, and its inhabitants Alina and Mal.
There wasn't a moment in this book where I even considered taking a break, or coming back to it. I honestly couldn't tear my eyes away from the pages. I couldn't comprehend the words in my head fast enough to find out what was to happen next! The way that the author writes is nothing short of poetic with details that arent overbearing but enhance the images in mind instead. And whereas sometimes i couldnt read fast enough there were some parts of the book I reread two or three times I loved them so much!! :D
I found myself flipping back to the beginning of the book to even track their progress on the map that is so conveniently drawn (maybe even by Alina!) so that you may know as well where they are in the land of Ravka, and the insane journeys that Alina and Mal are taken on throughout the book.
The love story still makes my heart flutter when I think of Mal. I love the sweetness to him, and the loyalty he has to Alina. And I love that it wasn't from the start. That it was something he found later once she was gone from him. And who can't love a Dark Prince every now and then to get in the way of true love. We all know girls love bad boys.. and oooo was he bad! ;) I can't say that there was a single part of this book that I did not thoroughly enjoy.
Leigh Burdugo, my hat is off to you. Thank you for a truly wonderful book that I would Highly Reccommend be read by anyone and everyone who loves a good story :) full of adventure, "magic", love, and even terror and sorrow, but in the end a truly good story. PICK THIS BOOK UP NOW AND START READING!! It is worth every moment spent with your nose between its pages. :) :) :)(less)

It was a book by Rachel, from Rachael, to Rachael!!! :D
This book really blew my mind, I wasn't expecting such a quick and entertaining read at first. It seemed like it would be just about a struggle for Elysia, the main character, and her inner fight with finding her own identity. But in fact the book became so much more! I caught myself thinking about the book throughout the workday anxiously waiting my return home so i could pick it back up again and continue to suberge myself into the world of Demesne. Cohn really did a good job in her descriptions and the scenery of this beautiful paradise island that the book is set in. You really feel like you are there looking around all all of the manufactured beauty that was created for the wealthy people of the post water-war to exclude themselves to as a reward for all the hardships that they had overcome. I thought coming to the end of this book, that I had it figured out, but there is no way I could have even remotely imagined how this story would come to its grand finale. Elysia's world was flipped upside down then rightside up and then back again as everything she had come to know over the few months since she was emerged, was ripped from under her as she was forced to become something more than just a clone. I love how passionate and honest and strong the character Elysia is. It is that common feeling we all have growing up trying to figure out who we really are, and she is thrown into the teen world with no crash course into how to deal, but I feel she came out with flying colors. Its hard to really talk about what i loved about this book without giving away too many of the suprises!!! THERE ARE SO MANY!! If I had any downside to the book at all, it would be that it was a little slow to start, but that is mostly due to the large amount of descriptions and details so you know what world it is that Elysia is thrown into. The ending really blew my mind, I can't say that the author shouldn't have put so many twists and turns in the endning because I don't know where the other books will take Elysia, but I honestly was staring at the pages with my mouth hanging wide open thinking to myself, I can't believe this is happening!!! The whols story was realitively docile and intuitive until the end. Everything I had predicted went straight out the window and it was almost as if I was reading an entirely different story. There maybe could have been minus a surpise or two and still had the same mind blowing effect, but who am I to say what all it would take for Elysia to become the character she is supposed to be in the upcoming books in the series. So i can now only wait and imagine whats to come next! Needless to say, I canNOT wait until the second book in this four book series comes out!! THANK YOU AGAIN RACHAEL @ Thebookmuncher.blogspot.com, you rock!!!
I would reccommend this book to anyone interested in a strong lead female character, a sweet love story, and the strength it takes to find out who you really are when the waters become rough. Definitely a quick and interesting read!” (less)
