I hate to start a review out this way, but I'll admit it up front that while it might not be considered one of my favorite books, I still found it to be a fun and catchy read. I was curious from the start what the author had in mind once I got a sneak peek at the plot from the book's teaser of a description and my attention didn't waver until I finished.
Having no experience with this author previously I went into this one with a completely open mind and for that I'm grateful. So many of the books I've been picking up lately have either been continuations in a series, or new starts from authors I'm familiar with. Debut authors are always exciting, and even if an author's work that I pick up might not be their first, if it's the first I've experienced their work than it feels brand new either way.
So I'm excited to see what De Palma has in store for readers in the future and I'll admit that I'm not opposed to a sequel for this series. I'm once again going to be curious to see what happens next in the story and what the next hurdles will turn out to be for these characters. On a side note....right from the beginning, when the author has the main character referring to Saint Peter at the gates....as St. Pete...for whatever reason it struck my funny bone with no disrespect that I could find in the nickname. Just an author lightening the mood based on how the character's frame of mind would have been at that point in the story. It broke the ice for me with this new read and I'd like to see more!(less)

I'll admit that Nashville has always been on my list of places I want to visit. So once I learned of Echols' new release centering around this location and the music community its so well know for and I was sold!
Echols has long been one of my favorite contemporary romance writers and I think she hit another one out of the park. Her characters and their inevitable romances always pull me in and have me rooting for them every step of the way. Bailey and Sam were no different. For a reader who didn't know a whole lot about the Nashville scene I enjoyed how Echols laid the groundwork and introduced and worked through all the dynamics through Bailey's eyes and experience. I found myself taking mental notes of bands and singers I wanted to remember to check out and maybe even finally finding the time to get that trip to Nashville together that I've always wanted to take. When I do get there, I've got a few places I'd like to check out, that Echols mentioned and described throughout the story.
Bailey and Sam were both experiencing their own struggles and working together and apart in order to grow and move toward that nearly impossible dream of making it big always in the forefront of their minds. I couldn't help but want to see all their talent and hard work and dedication pay off and I think this is a read that fans of Echols will enjoy as well as any who are looking for some fun and romance!(less)

At times I was frustrated but mainly with myself and my inability to read any faster than what I was. I was trying to scrape any time I could together during the day and at night so that I could open up this book and get a little further into it. I was hooked and there was no way I was going to be satisfied until I was finished.
Once again Cochran brought back her wonderful characters, and the exciting plot that I enjoyed so much the first time around. Katy and Peter were of course the ones that I wanted to hear most about, and while I was surprised with the way things played out through this installment between the two of them, only Cochran and her amazing writing talent could do their relationship justice. The muffies were back and they were as bad as ever, always stirring the pot and causing trouble, but this time around they didn't get off scott free....better get to reading if you want to find out more on that. The other old and familiar faces that I was eager to see more of were back and again they didn't disappoint.
Cochran brought some new characters into her story as well as some Arthurian myths and legends that were so much fun I had trouble closing the book at times. Morgan and especially Bryce were awesome additions and as much fun as they were refreshing. Their added story lines were unique and entertaining from start to finish.
As always once I made my way through to the final page I just couldn't help but want to start on the next installment in the series right away. The only problem...it's not out yet. Still in the works, but by now I have no doubt that Cochran will produce another amazing and highly entertaining installment in the Legacy series and I can't wait to get the chance to read on.(less)

I wasn't sure what to expect out of this series but after hearing such glowing remarks from a few others who had already read the first two installments I was optimistic. And I had every right to be!
I have to start off by saying Cochran's character development sold me right from the beginning. I'm not sure how she wove it all together, but she somehow made it possible to get to know each of her characters while not weighing down the story with too much background information or an overload of details that inevitably are unnecessary to the overall storyline. I felt like I was caught up to speed on the characters and their lives quickly but without anything being left out. I enjoyed how they evolved from start to finish and felt like she was able to give her readers the full scope of who these people were while explaining the adventures they were in the process of exploring.
There's action and suspense, a good build up of enough anxiety that I was on the edge of my seat and all the while Cochran never slowed down. She had me flying through the pages in order to find out what would happen next, and I was kept guessing until the very end. It's always exciting for me when you come across a book that poses questions and doesn't spell it all out for the readers but has them working through the problems and obstacles right alongside the characters. No one ever wants a book to be too revealing or predictable because it takes all the fun out of it. Cochran nailed that and only left me wanting one thing in the end....the next installment!(less)

I can handle a cliffhanger, even a very stressful, anxiety inducing type deal, but this ending of her third installment in the Lux series just broke my heart and left me bereft. Yep, I said bereft...because that's what I was. This turned out to be a series that took me by complete surprise and left me reeling after each and every installment. There was nothing else to do and no way to cure the feeling except to go and get the next installment. And now with this third installment, the ending crushed me and I was forced to accept the fact that the next, and fourth installment in the series will not be out until July before I can get my next Lux fix! So far I'm not handling this well at all.
As for what you can expect with this installment, be prepared for a ton of surprising twists and turns that will catch you off guard, and I'm not just talking about the ending. Watch out for the emotional roller coaster that is the character Dawson. He's quickly become a favorite of mine and I couldn't help but watch through the story's progression how he was trying to assimilate himself back into society, and how Katy turned out to be one of the only people he could really relate to. And if you add in Dee's personality transformation...it was downright painful to watch. Its nearly impossible not to sympathize with her, while at the same time wanting to force her and Katy together so that things could go back to the way they were.
And without giving away too much for those who haven't read this title yet, I want to know more about Carissa...I wonder if that will happen, and Luke...please give us more Luke! The description of this character were priceless and at times laugh out loud funny. Blake is a different story.
Bottom line, pick up this series if you haven't already, and for those of you that have made your way through the first three installments, I feel your pain on having to withstand the wait and countdown we'll have to endure until we can get our hands on Origin. It's going to be a LONG countdown for sure.(less)

With the second installment in this series came new and exciting plot twists and turns for me. I keep thinking in my head how surprised I still am that this type of series or central characters would appeal to me this much, but I give all the credit to Armentrout's writing and amazing talent. I'm sure any series written by her dealing with just about any type of characters would be a real winner in my opinion.
Daemon and Katy and the rest of the gang picked up right where they left off and I was still hooked from the very first page. I had to fight myself every second not to peek at the end of the book to see how things would turn out. The suspense was killing me....especially when my favorite new sorta-couple wasn't getting along all that well, and a new mystery man came into the picture to drive the wedge between them further apart. I was not really a huge Blake fan to say the least. But Armentrout kept me on the edge of my seat once again and biting my nails down to the quick to see what sort of tricks these characters would have up their sleeves to get them out of the mess they found themselves in.
Yet again the cliffhanger at the end had me pulling out the third installment in the series immediately because there was no way I'd be settling for waiting any long period of time before I'd be able to find out what would happen next. I was so glad that I decided to go ahead and purchase that installment at the same time as this one. Any wait period may have ended up being the death of me. I'm just loving everything about this series!(less)

I can't believe it's been on the shelves and I have only now discovered this literary perfection! I can only say that I can't even remember how I came across the title this past week and what really persuaded me to decided to buy it, but whatever the reasons, I'm just glad I finally did.
Totally caught off guard because I had zero expectations going into this book, I was shocked to find myself flying through the pages and unable to stop reading to do anything else. Without a doubt a page turner, the kind where everything outside of the book ceases to register, and before you know it you've reached the last page and know for a fact that you've got to start reading the next installment immediately or you don't know what you'll do with yourself. So because I was so excited to see that there were three installments so far in the series already on the shelves, I decided to pick up books two and three because I refused to make the same mistake twice. I was hooked.
The characters, not just the main characters, but all of them were wonderful! I was completely invested and enthralled with the world and scenarios Armentrout had created with this series and could not get enough of them. They each were so different and yet flowed so well with the others that it had me feeling like an insider instead of a reader watching from the outside in, if that makes any sense. All you readers out there know what I'm talking about. It doesn't happen often, but every once in while you have to remind yourself while reading an amazing book that it is just that....a work a fiction and in no way a reality that you are a part of.
And I have no choice but to comment on the fact that the main character Katy was a book blogger! And not just any book blogger, but a realistic one at that. She participates and mentions memes that we all know and love. The way she describes her reading and the reviews she's creating hits home and had me falling in love with this character over and over again. Congrats to Armentrout....you've got a fan for life!
If you're lucky you've already picked up this series and are anxiously awaiting the fourth installment in the series due out this year....if you were in my boat...stop what you're doing and do yourself a favor and pick up this series, not just the first installment but all three that are currently available because hopefully you'll become as addicted to this series as I am!(less)

After first hearing about this future release, my interest was piqued and I added it to my TBR. When I received the ARC in the mail I was excited but the release date was a ways off so I put it to the side for a while. Eventually I jumped in and was glad I had set aside a good bit of time to read because I didn't want to put the book down.
Who doesn't love a good adventure? The mystery and suspense Bailey weaved around it all only added to its appeal. Meg and Will were an unlikely pair but eventually I couldn't picture Meg going through it with anyone else. Added to the mix, Lucinda and a fellow Amusementist and I was feeling like a part of the group myself. The creativity that Bailey demonstrates by revealing these various "amusements" to her readers was amazing! The detailed descriptions had me feeling as if I was there and experiencing it all first hand.
The ending threw me a little, but at the same time I was glad I had certain information lined up and figured out. I do think Bailey could have made this a stand alone instead of a series opener, but I'm certainly not complaining and am really looking forward to seeing where things go next!(less)
