Only Samantha Young could keep this story rolling along the way she did. After all the excitement in her series opener, I thought I was prepared for what to expect in her sequel, but I was so wrong. She brought new twists and turns throughout these pages, and Caia and Lucien were thrown yet even more obstacles in their way. I felt like I was waiting for them to catch a break the whole way through, but I guess it wouldn't have been all that much fun if everybody always got their happily ever after without having to work for it, right?
Caia has a bunch more on her plate this time around, and it doesn't look like she'll be slowing down anytime soon. She's still working her way into the pack and trying to gain their trust as much as she can, not to mention the Daylight Coven. Those who know about her, don't know what all she'll be capable of, and those that don't, well let's just say not everyone will want to throw her a welcoming party. Young gives us more detail and insight into her other characters as well as a growing connection between our favorite headliners. With a chance to not only get a closer look at some of the other key players, readers get the chance to hear new voices too. It's not just Caia telling the story, we've got other POVs introduced throughout.
And without giving away any spoilers of course, I can't mention specific names of the characters that just about drove me crazy throughout this installment. I tip my hat to Young, because she brought out the emotions when it came to whose side I was choosing to be on as a reader. There are just some characters that I find myself thinking that I won't be happy until they get exactly what's coming to them. Punishments need to be delivered and hopefully Caia and Lucien and the rest of the gang will get the chance to do just that in the third and final installment in the series, Blood Solstice. I know one thing, I can't wait to find out!(less)

I have to admit that I was thrilled to discover that Samantha Young is an author that is able to transcend the different materials and manages to adapt well for all audiences no matter their age!
Young sets her readers up in a great way...our main character Caia has been estranged from her pack (family and friends) since she was little and now it's finally time for their reunion of sorts. It makes for a perfect set up so that while Caia is being reintroduced back into their pack, readers are given just as much of an explanation and background as she herself is getting. Readers aren't left to feel like they're already a few steps behind, but instead will experience everything right along with Caia. It also makes it nearly impossible not to immediately relate and/or empathize with her character in general.
There is so much to take in, but in only the best possible way, because all the new characters are richly described and easy to stand behind. It doesn't hurt that the pack's Alpha, Lucien is delicious in all ways! He's determined to make sure her transition back into the pack goes smoothly and that's she not met with any hesitancy on the pack's part. Protectiveness is running strong with this guy, and I'm not sure you can blame it all on his roll in their heirarchy. Readers won't be quite sure if he has ulterior motives for going out of his way for her or if just comes with the territory of being everyone's protector. You'll have to read on to find out more.
Young goes even further to make sure that her series does not get jumbled into yet another generic werewolf tale by adding in a few extra elements...and by elements I'm referring to Caia's additional abilities. I don't want to go into much further detail as to avoid any spoilers on my part, but regardless, readers can be assured that there is a lot of fun and excitement within these pages, and I'm positive no one will be disappointed with Young's ability to weave this story together.(less)

So this review will kept short and sweet since this is a novella for the series and not a full installment. But there was no way I could pass up saying a few words regarding this title. Readers finally get the chance to see things from Aiden's point of view this time around, and oh how sweet that was for a change. Everything he had to go through, all this emotions and the feelings he has for Alex nearly had me picking up the box of tissues because it was just all too much...but in the best possible way.
Although I love our heroine Alex throughout this series, it was a nice change of pace to see things through Aiden's eyes as well as the chance to see our gang of misfits teaming together and sticking by each other through all this awfulness...it was inspiring and gave me just one more reason to love them all...even Lea kind of grew on me.
Each character grew just a little bit more throughout this novella, with the exception of Alex...but she had so much going on with her, and while the hateful things coming out of her mouth nearly pushed me over the edge, I just kept reminding myself that it wasn't the "real" Alex. This would of course then put me in a huge melancholy over how much she was dealing with and what Aiden was forced to do to her and for her in order to stabilize everything the only way possible....heartbreaking to say the least.
This was most definitely one of the first and only novellas that I've ever read where I actually felt content after reading it, instead of feeling like it was merely a teaser to hold me over until the next installment. It had grit and substance and in my opinion both of those traits are rare when it comes to short pieces like these. A must read for sure!(less)

Armentrout left us with one heck of a cliffhanger last time around and this installment picked up right where that one left off...major anxiety for sure. Alex is now back and training like always but she's got the HUGE cloud hanging over her head with what happened in New York and is constantly fearful that she'll be found out, along with everyone else involved.
With all this on her shoulders, she's still got Prime Minister Telly on her case, and his little surprise special visit for Alex had me in knots and wanting to cry for her...just awful, that is one character I couldn't stand...and still can't! Her awakening is quickly approaching and speeding up a lot faster than she'd like and as if the girl doesn't have enough on her plate, throw in the awfulness that revolves around all things Aiden and Seth that she's always dealing with and it's enough to drive readers crazy with anxiety, stress and a roller coaster of other emotions when they find themselves on empathy overload!
I honestly don't know how Armentrout keeps delivering these new and amazing story lines with each installment but I'm sure not complaining and hoping that it's not going to end any time soon, because I'm not sure I'll ever get enough of these characters, this world and all the action and romance that's packed in between!
Each time I think I couldn't fall in love with one of her characters more, she proves me wrong...but on the flip side, just when I don't think I can take a certain character's nastiness and deceit, they one up themselves again and I'm lost in how much I want to throw the book across the room after shaking said characters.
There's nothing not to love in this third installment and with all the action, romance and fast paced writing, I think it's one that all readers will find themselves enjoying.(less)

We're talking major pressure, don't you think? But Armentrout had nothing to worry about because she knew exactly what she was doing with this sequel and has all her readers overly enthusiastic about yet another one of her titles.
While Half-Blood, the series opener was a strong start, Pure managed to keep the momentum rolling as well as the fast pace she's known for and action packed pages. Readers got to know a little bit more about each of the characters we all fell in love with in round one, and this time around it was even harder to resist them. I'll also add that Armentrout had me feeling it all within these pages. I was ecstatic one moment and devastated the next. It was a roller coaster of emotions with everything that was going on, but I wouldn't trade one second of it for a smoother scenario. It was perfect and I instantly had to get my hands on the next installment in the series.
When it came to Alex and Aiden there's no way to condense is all into a short review of how their interactions made me feel. There was just so much tension and chemistry from start to finish that it was hard to keep up, but in the best possible sense. The way they interact and the depth of Alex's feelings and confusion when it comes to Aiden were impossible not to empathize with her. But then Armentrout had to go and throw Seth into the mix and I was constantly feeling like I had whiplash with all the changing dynamics.
This series, along with everything else I can get my hands on by Armentrout will forever cement her in my opinion as one of those authors that I will always keep on auto-buy. She delivers masterpieces with each title she launches, and she's yet to disappoint me with anything that she writes to hit the shelves!(less)

I kept waiting as I made my way through each installment in this series for the two of them to get tiring, or for their relationship and all the obstacles and turmoil that goes hand in hand to bore me, but it never happened. Without delivering spoilers I have to issue up a warning to all those getting ready to read this third installment...you might want to wait until you can get the fourth book in your hands before you get started. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for the fourth installment, but if I hadn't, after turning the final page in this title I might have suffered a breakdown. Stevens triumphs yet again with her legendary cliffhangers that have readers throwing their books across rooms, undergoing emotional roller coasters with no end in sight...it could get ugly.
The added characters this time around really sold me all the way. The new dynamics between the characters, the relationships that develop with these new introductions, as well the continued ones that only deepen their connections, it was all artfully done by Stevens. I'm not sure that I can narrow down any favorite characters with so many to choose from and for so many reasons. But I can say this...Xander is definitely in my sights. There's something about him, maybe its how he always appears to be taking everything in, calculating how everything can and will work out, weighing the options laid out before them, it's hard to wrap your head around what all could possibly be going through his mind at any given moment. He's definitely a character to watch and one I look forward to seeing more of in the next book.
It all comes down to what readers think of the series as a whole. As for myself, this third installment was equally as exciting and eventful as the previous two and I can't wait to see what Stevens has in store for her readers through the wonderful characters many have come to know and love.(less)

While I was excited to see the two of them facing off yet again, it took me a while to get used to seeing them outside of the palace. My heart was breaking for Aria while she was attempting to get back to her "normal" every day life, while also trying to convince everyone around her that her circumstances and experience within the palace was not what she was expecting, nor what they've all convinced themselves it was.
I'll admit that I was feeling very bad for Max and watching him try to deal with his gruesome experience while he was a blood slave was just so sad. But that didn't last long...he, like everyone else around Aria refused to believe that their captivity was different and it just grated on my nerves the way he was trying to force his opinions and feelings on her, when really all was he doing was treating her like an ignorant child who couldn't differentiate fiction from reality. And once Aria and Braith were brought back together, his behavior put me over the edge for sure!
The adventure most certainly continued and nearly gave me an anxiety attack whenever Aria was on the run. But seeing her in her natural environment of the woods and what she was capable of had me rooting for her like a cheerleader throughout each of her action packed scenes. At times I found it hard to be on the outside looking in and just wanted to shake everyone (and I do mean everyone!) so that they'd stop being silly and realize what was really going on and how everyone was really feeling.
Once again, Stevens left me no choice but to hurry up and order the next installment in the series, because there was no way I could let things end without picking it right back up....way too much pressure with another Stevens cliffhanger ending. (less)

Each of her series that I pick up I find myself instantly adding each installment within that series to my TBR, because I know there is no way that I will be content without finding out what happens up to the very end. I flew through this series opener and instantly ordered the next two installments in the series to satisfy my curiosity.
I was fascinated throughout the story as readers will see how we're fast forwarded to a future that's nearly impossible to imagine, and yet as they described how most modern technology that we all take for granted each and every day no longer exists. Seeing Aria get so excited over a shower, and be so resistant to using eating utensils was surreal but intriguing. I found myself pausing and looking around and wondering what I would do or how things would be without anything I consider modern to be at my very fingertips.
Stevens of course had me instantly rooting for these main characters to develop something between themselves that could last the test of time...and all the obstacles they would surely be forced to face. Like I said, there was no way I was going to be OK to put this series opener aside and not go racing to read the next two available installments and finding out what would happen next.
I'll admit the ending threw me, definitely didn't see it coming and was somewhat crushed when it was revealed. Yet another reason that I found myself downloading the next installment onto my Kindle so that I could pick up right where this book left off. This was a fast, fun and highly entertaining and exciting read and I think if you guys are looking for a new book this summer, this series opener might be the perfect one! (less)

I checked out some reviews and while a lot of readers said they enjoyed the story they also felt like it was a remake of the movie version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I get that there may be similarities once that thought is stuck in your head, but overall, I enjoyed it while also finding unique and original ideas throughout.
There are stories where the main characters are thrown together and the romance seems to pick up speed way to fast, but there are others where the circumstances might be the same, but yet it doesn't bother me....this was one of those stories. I liked that the main characters had a blossoming romance and enjoyed getting to know them, as they got to know each other. Yes they were keeping a heck of a lot of secrets (and big ones) from each other, but who lays it out on the table right off the bat, right?
The action towards the end kept me on the edge of my seat and I wasn't sure what to expect or anticipate, but was enjoying Stevens' way of flying through the scenes and keeping me guessing. Her pace was quick but in the best possible way, and it was a great start to the series if you ask me. I'm ready to continue on with the other installments in the series and see what happens next for these characters that I came to care about. (less)

While I enjoyed the story line and the characters Farrell filled the pages with, it was a pretty quick read and one that I was in and out of, mainly I think due to a reading rut. While it didn't pull me in right from the start, I think readers might want to give this one a little more of a chance, because once it finally got off the ground and running I had fun tearing through the rest of the pages.
On the downside...there isn't a whole lot of mystery within this book. There are of course a few revelations and some twists and surprises, but overall it was something I feel like a lot of readers will have seen somewhere similarly or at least experience a small sense of deja vu. So if it reminds you of something you enjoyed, all the better....if it's a theme that you find yourself bored with, this book might not be for you, but I'll cross my fingers it could be a quick and light summer reader most will enjoy.
There were without a doubt a jumble of characters that Farrell put together and I enjoyed meeting each of them, but of course some more than others. I had to say right off the bat that I cannot stand Tammie! I wish I could say my feelings changed throughout or eventually, or however you want to put it, but nope...not happening...I just don't like the girl and I don't think I'll be alone in that opinion. But the rest were pretty fun. Perdy was fun to watch explore this new world and the dialogue and slang that was thrown in due to their backdrop was a nice surprise for me. I enjoyed hearing the way they spoke and even sometimes wracking my brain as to what they were exactly talking about due to the small language barrier I seemed to have.
Perdy will keep readers rooting for from start to finish, and watching her try to find herself and make a way and future for herself was admirable and definitely had me turning into a cheerleader for her plight. It was my favorite part of the book, which is saying something since usually it's the romance that sticks out in my mind or the action and all that jazz. But I'm looking forward most especially to seeing how Perdy continues on and how her and the rest of the gang with move forward after the intense ending Farrell left her readers with in this series opener.(less)
