I share that as there may be some bias, but David's humbleness which is apparent in his writings is one of the reasons I've come to admire in David, that and his Scottish accent . One of the 'to dos' in my own personal discipleship is become a better student of the Old Testament. David Murray's 'Jesus on Every Page' was a good starter for me. The book especially in the beginning read like I was on a treasure hunt and finding those things you think you never find. There are good study question from what I can see to further ones treasure hunt. Because of a one on one discipleship i've just started, where I am the disciple, I don't want to get into something I can't dedicate to but it be a study I will hopefully get to at a future date....more

R.The Holiness of God is the current curriculum for Soldiers of Christ Prison Ministries' Discipleship 101 'A Soldiers's Call to Know God's Holiness'
R. C. Sproul has some very solid statements one that is a key teaching point
“By my sin I hurt human beings. I injure their person; I despoil their goods; I impair their reputation; I rob from them a precious quality of life; I crush their dreams and aspirations for happiness. When I dishonor God, I dishonor all people who bear His image. Is it any wonder, then, that God takes sin so seriously?”
Holiness of God does a excellent job on the reason Christians must know of God's Holiness. One key point is to understand the fear of God is key for every Christian if they are going to fully understand the purpose God created them in His image.
SOCPM choose Holiness of God as an introductory course to teach not just God's Holiness but His wrath and why we all deserve His wrath. For many they fully do not understand their need for Jesus as a personal Savior Romans 1:16-32 ...more

Thus it became the 1st book of 4 in a discipleship class I developed for just that. The class became my best in overall participation and consistent attendance. I had a couple of students remark it was one of the best books they've read and in prison one reads a lot. Through word of mouth there is a waiting list for the next time the book will be taught (God willing).
I will begin teaching it in a second prison in a could of weeks and am looking forward to the feedback from a couple of inmates who i've interacted with in the past and are very mature in their faith. I too gained insight in my second read that I did not get the first read.
Jerry Bridges has risen to the top of my lists as one of the best authors on discipleship and will be looking forward to teaching the second book in the class also by Bridges, "Growing Your Faith; Maturing in Christ"
I give it 5 stars not because it is amazing, I feel that is the wrong adjective but I give it 5 stars for it being solid in holding to scripture and solid in teaching the fullness of the Gospel, something that is not taught in a good number of churches today. It is not a book that focuses on how one improves their life through improving themselves but through the love, mercy and grace of God through HidSon Jesus Christ...more

Awesome in that Jerry Bridges does a great teaching of God's grace, His discipline and the need to preach the gospel to ourselves, as in believers, daily.
Bridges writes in a manner that is easy to grasp and retain for those who like me can't easily grasp those deep thinking theologians. That is not to say Bridges is not a deep thinking theologian, he is and shows it by taking the deep to shallow waters for us who zone out when reading in deep waters.
This is only the second book I've read by Jerry Bridges (the other being 'Gospel for Real Life') but his ability to teach solid gospel in 'shallow waters' led me to use three of his books; The Gospel for Real Life: Turn to the liberating Power of the Cross, Growing Your FAith: How to Mature in Christ and Trusting God Even When Life Hurts as part of the curriculum in the Discipleship 101 program I teach in Soldiers of Christ Prison Ministries, the ministry God has called me to steward.
If you are like me and feel the challenge of reading books that go deep and comprehending was is written, give Jerry Bridges series of books a try.
As an FYI the reason it took 2.5 months to read is it was read as a weekly group study....more

As for me I think there is a lot in this book but it wasn't fully revealed to me because of other clutter in my heart. I might re-read it sometime and would like to but clutter is hard to rid one self of.
I did take some thought to journaling as Miller recommends so perhaps though I did not get the revelation through my actual reading, I will through journaling.
Based on what I did get out of it and what others have told me they got from this I recommend it ...more
