Also, Junior needs to cease with the belittling of his Indian culture. Even if they're his opinions, I don't believe it's necessary to stereotype his roots any more than once a chapter. And in all honestly, this book seems like a very "light" introduction to angsty, "realistic" novels, so I'm far from entertained.(less)

No reason, except for that I just didn't like this book too much. Maybe I just don't understand it as well as others, but I've reread it a few times throughout the years, and I still don't like it.(less)

I somewhat liked it for the way Steinbeck had the characters' dialog written out in a specific style. The only reason why I probably didn't like it too much is because of the ending. Though I had it somewhat predicted, I didn't feel as if it were an appropriate conclusion. It left me feeling empty as a finished.(less)

I've always set myself to read and finish this book a lot sooner, but I just never really got the chance, so with this being another one of my assigned readings, I took this as an opportunity to getting around to actually reading. I wasn't surprised by how this story was, even if people complained about how odd it was. Some really just don't like this book because of the mythology, and mythology can just be really boring or unappealing to people who don't understand the purpose for mythology. Basically, I liked this book a lot because I naturally love mythology.(less)

A positive about this is apparently, it's the most realistic depiction of war during that era, which was actually a plus for me. In the end, though, I just didn't like it. It was predictable, but because of the fact that this is supposed to be realistic, it really shouldn't have been a surprise at all. Overall, I just felt like I was forced to read.(less)

The fact that the story may be a bit creepy to some is probably because they find it odd for animals to speak, and I wouldn't blame them, but if you look beyond the unrealistic animal communication and see it as a harmless children's book, chances are, you'd just go with it. I mean, don't misunderstand me, because of course I know this isn't actually a children's book, but for people who don't understand this as an allegory, they probably won't think too much of it. The fact that this is an allegory for the Russian Revolution just adds to its misunderstood charm.(less)

I understand the era this was written in, as with other books, but for some odd reason, this story just feels incredibly old compared to other so-called "classics". People claim this story to have one of the best romances, but I just scoff the thought off. There's practically nothing romantic about Pip and Estella's relationship, at least, in my opinion. One thing that I disliked the most about the way this story was written is the fact that Dickens had to describe pretty much everything with great detail, and that just got really annoying really fast. But I do understand that at the time, he was payed for every word he wrote, which gives him a reason to describe a piece of bread in a whole paragraph.(less)

Read it through twice and almost a third time, and also read the screenplay for it, but it just never suited my tastes. Now, I could say that this story is overrated, but I have nothing to back that statement up, so I won't even attempt it. Basically, I just dislike this story, and I don't think that'll ever change.(less)

It just didn't suck me into the story for the first few chapters, but I will say that I've felt that way about this book throughout the past three or so years, which, if you think about it, is a good thing. I haven't changed my opinion about. It's decent. I don't love it, and I don't dislike it. Can't really put it to words, but I think this book is better than average.(less)
