I love Kate Serine and her retellings are always a treat to discover. They are always full of ideas and mix all kinds of stories we know. We have a nice mix between the Arthurian story and the one of Robin Hood. Several characters we know are present again to our delight and others appear here.
We follow this time Gideon as we had the chance to meet him as a secondary character in other volumes. His history is not very easy, his lover died before his eyes and he has since become the slave of the king of the fairies. But times have changed and Gideon has befriended the king whom he helps whenever he can. However, when one day he is led to seek the thief plaguing the country, he does not expect to fall face to face with the young woman he thought dead for years. And then he discovers a new truth, the story of this young woman he thought he had lost forever and he will do anything to help her now. He will therefore team up with her to collect all the Arthurian artifacts existing in this world before anyone else does it to protect them whatever it might cost. But the woman he thought he knew is ultimately far more important than it seems and her relationship with the king is not what it appeared to be. Gideon will learn along the Chapters many things, as some stories combining characters such as Guinevere, the Lady of the Lake, Arthur and many others.
I really enjoyed reading this new novel even if it is true that I still have a preference for the first novel featuring Red. Gideon is a character we had seen many times before and I really enjoyed learning more about him. It was very touching to see him reunited with Arabella and see him fight for her. Oh yes, because of course their history will not be easy and many pitfalls are sown in their path. I confess that I had a little trouble understanding the young woman, I found it sad that she didn’t try to contact him before the man she has always loved. I know that the events are not only lent but I think they would have lost a lot less time. She is also trying to protect Gideon as best as she can but she does it in a fairly clumsy way which ultimately hurts more than anything. But here too we understand the reason behind all this. In all cases the couple is really touching and I enjoyed discovering their history.
Kate Serine once again presents us with a pretty novel, leaving us with a few questions and I am very curious to find out who will be featured in the next volume and if we’ll conclude some of the problems presented here.(less)
As soon as I read the synopsis of the story it made me think of a series of books that I love: the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. Taking the book, I was convinced that it was a first volume and when I finally discovered that we had here a Volume 4, I started to worry a little bit. Yet if we look at the blurbs of the other volumes, we can see that this volume is set earlier than the others, which therefore does not pose any problems. I also wonder now if it is not better to start with this one, but I could only really know that after reading the rest of the series. This is also something I’m really looking forward to do because I had a great time with this story and I look forward to rediscover Nellie in some new adventures.
Nellie has always dreamed of being an independent woman and to pursue the career she has chosen. Yet it is difficult to assert herself in a men’s world, in a world that denigrates women’s work but Nellie is determined to realize her dream. After being hired by a newspaper and having worked a little with them, she decides she wants more and offers to go to Mexico to write papers. Unfortunately, her boss is very far from accepting this fact as it’s no job for a lady. Nellie therefore decides to leave without his consent but convinced that he will publish the articles she would send if they are good. Leaving alone on this new adventure, her world will be completely messed up. Between wacky situations, vengeful gods, people who disappear and a treasure that everyone wants, Nellie will really have many things to do. Thus she will discover and meet a lot of players who will have a great impact on her life. Indeed, we meet Gertrude, a young woman who is also seeking independence but traveling with her uncle, a consul in Mexico. Roger, a so-called historian who finds himself in completely funny situations throughout the novel. Sundance, this cowboy who seems strangely interested in the girl; and Lily and her companion, two celebrities which everyone tries to uncover the secrets.
I really had a wonderful time with this novel and Nellie. We can easily understand her desire for freedom, her desire for independence, to prove she is as good as any men. Yet her journey will not be easy, between the rumors spread about her, all the characters who are strangely interested in her even if she does not understand why. It will be very difficult to know to whom she can trust and after all the events, it is true that I understand that. I doubted at least once about each of the characters and I found that the author had us perfectly led by the nose throughout the story. Oh yes, because some revelations have really taken me by surprise, including the real identities of the characters. I confess that the one for which we have the most questions is none other than Roger, the man who infuriates Nellie at the highest point but well she also makes him pay a lot too. He is so much annoying but also always here to help our heroine when she needs it. We greatly have from the beginning a lot of questions about him and we want to understand who he really is and what he wants from our heroine but it was not until the end of the story that we really understand everything.
I have a soft spot for everything about archeology and ancient cultures. Knowing that the author here presents Aztec history, I took a great pleasure in discovering all the details that we were given. I must say that all takes an important place in the history and I was very curious to learn more. Another point should be noted about the story as Carol McCleary offers us something very original here. Indeed, we have repeatedly drawings, excerpts from articles throughout the chapter, all stored in very short chapters, allowing us to read the novel very quickly. When I discovered at the end of the novel that all the mentioned characters had existed in real life, I thought it was fascinating. Even if everything is finally fictionalized and a little changed (or at least that’s what I understood), it is possible to know their lives at the end of the volume as well as some of their photos. I really loved the idea, it helps us to put faces to names and to immerse ourselves even more in the series.
As I said at the beginning of the novel, I did not read the other volumes but I am very eager to do it now and to know more about Nellie, to see if we’ll meet once again the characters we discovered here including Roger or Gertrude because as I said, the first novel takes place three years later. In any case I was completely conquered here and I hope to read more very soon. The Elizabeth Peters fans will be delight with this story!(less)
After seeing some nice reviews about this series, I confess that I was quite curious to try it and discover the September’s story.
September is a twelve years old girl who would like to go on an adventure and change her life. The solution comes in the form of Green Wind who offers her to go to Fairyland and so discover this new world. From there she will meet some characters who become her friends as Ell, a dragon who is not a dragon and Saturday a little endearing boy, who will help her throughout their adventures. But the place is governed by a Marquess, a young woman that everyone fears and who dictates the actions of each character. While September discovers this place so different from her own country, she meets many unusual characters such as Death, Ly or even Goodbye. Yes names that we do not expect to find here, and yet that makes us smile every time and I loved to discover more. But while her quest progresses, she will be forced to return and to obey to the Marquess, this detestable woman who tries to trap her.
I liked the ideas of the author here. We have a history in a « Alice in Wonderland » way. The author even has her own voice throughout the pages, giving us the impression of a nice tale told us by another person. We also have some beautiful images at the beginning of each chapter, allowing us to imagine the world and to have a glimpse of what we would discover.
September is a girl that we love to follow. She is eager for adventures while trying to pay attention to her actions. She tries to do the best in terms of people moving around her and this kindness attracts people around her. Moreover, I must say that I really loved Ell! This Wyvern is unusual and makes us smile at any time. His desire to be accepted and believed in, touched us and affects us. He is always present for our heroine, whatever happens and I can not wait to find him again.
It was a nice story and I can say that the author has a very original story that brings us back to childhood.(less)
Firstly I must say that I did not know anything about the series and when I saw the cover I was not convinced that it would be for me. Besides the synopsis confirmed me this fact… science fiction, other planets, marines, and many things I don’t really like but yet I was very surprised to see that I had a great time with this novel and it also made me really want to try the others in the series. Yes, because as always I start my story here with Volume 4, but do not worry right now, I really had no problems and the author manages to do everything perfectly so we understand from the outset that we can follow the chapters without worries.
Throughout the novel, we follow a lot of people but who move together in the same environment. I always have a little trouble with too many POVs, but it’s really not the case here, perhaps because it is very often on the same 2-3 people. In addition, the chapters are often very short too, which definitely helps the reading and makes us want to continue to learn more. Early in the book, we focus specifically on two characters, Ruth, the wife of a Marine who is determined to help him discovering who are the manufacturers of the drugs on a planet and Ray, a colonel who left his wife for a diplomatic mission on the same planet. It is quite difficult to see how the two stories will meet, but through the chapters, we understand where the author wants to lead us.
I took great pleasure in discovering this story, to understand what the characters were trying to do to bring down the dictator. It must be said also that all the actors are really important and interesting whether Ruth and her husband, or Colonel Mary, a navy woman who helps her but also all the orphans of this planet with whom Ruth binds friendship and who will be of crucial help to reach their goals. So many characters but all more interesting than the others. But while their research is long and tedious, the resolution of their case will be really far from being as easy as they might think. However, our group faces all that and I took a great pleasure in discovering Ruth with her kindness, her generosity but also her determination and her will. We have many things here, of course, we also have a few reminders of other volumes and it is true that I would love to attend and read the encounter between the young woman and her husband but I think it will be for later.
As I said at the beginning, we can read the novel very quickly and I took a great pleasure to see it all, whether it’s about the characters or the plot and I’m now curious to learn more. By trying something different, I’m glad to say that I had a great time and I was eager to see how it would be resolved. The author presents here a very nice mix of conspiracy, science fiction and characters who particularly affect us. To read!(less)
I fell madly in love with the cover when I saw it and I knew that I had to try the book and discover the story as it was. And then a plot featuring pirates? Who would not be interested? Especially when the heroine in question is a girl disguising as a man to be able to live the adventures she wants.
Clarice is the eldest of twelve sisters and a brother, a princess who arrives at the age of 18. But the Duchy is very small, and the Clarice’s parents can not meet the needs of both girls and upon majority, each of them is forced to leave the castle they have always known to seek her fortune and live their lives as they wish. After having, as each of her sisters, the youth she wanted and becoming a mistress of weapons, Clarice hopes to discover the world. So she embarks on a boat by disguising herself as a boy, to travel, to experience new cultures and thus actually choose what she wants to do with her life. Here, she will have to understand what life at sea means, even if her secret is safe, it is difficult to live well in a confined space. In this way, she will also meet many very different characters that we will enjoy discovering. However, Clarice would never have expected that her journey would take such a turn or even thought she would meet any pirates.
I loved Clarice. She is a heroine in search of freedom, in search of adventure and a beautiful future. Letting herself be carried away by her desires, she will try to navigate at sea and discover a new life. We quickly understand her aspirations and desires but it is true that everything is not easy, especially when she begins to fall under the spell of one member of the crew. I also found very interesting to meet with the pirates and I was curious to see how the story would evolve regarding them. One thing is for sure, I did not expect that magic would mix with the plot so closely. And although we know the pirates through various novels, the authors introduce us other types of pirates much more difficult to counter. In any case, I had a lot of fun to follow the novel from beginning to end and this is true that I wonder what we’ll have next, to discover what each the sisters will do when their departure date will arrive . Especially when you consider that each is very different from the other and therefore should have distinct projects.
It was a nice discovery and a good first novel that makes us want to continue and to learn more at the same time.(less)
Cecy Robson presents an entirely new story in the Weird Girls world in the form of a novella, a prequel, placing itself before all the volumes released. Oh yes, because here we find our dear sisters when they’re moving on which allows us to learn more about their origins and past.
In very few pages the author presents a large number of things. The sisters settle, trying somehow to control their unpredictable powers. And when Danny, a former friend of Celia asks for their help to save his father from vampires, the young woman and her sisters do not hesitate to get into action. But to achieve their goals, the young women will have to investigate their past and the curse that strikes them to try to limit the effects … something that could be much more complicated than expected.
I loved this little story. In fact, I always find it very interesting to discover more about our heroines and the author presents some revelations which I did not expect about. New enemies are introduced here and it’s true that I’m curious to see if we’ll see them later, but I do not doubt about that. This novel is a very good start and I think fans of the series will be more than happy!(less)
After reading the synopsis of this book, I was immediately intrigued by the story. It’s been a long time since I had not read a book by the author and it is true that this novel made me really want to immerse myself in her other novels.
Brynn is a young woman who really has not had an easy life. Part of the Magus, she has very little powers even if she sometimes manages to have some visions of the future without knowing when the events will happen. Her lack of power has made her a very unattractive person in the eyes of her father and her community and she knows it. She is completely useless, but it does not matter, she will do her best to help everyone. But one day, she sees in a vision the death of her father, and while nobody believes her, she decides to prove her value by chasing the murderer she saw. However, this murderer is none other than Rook, the son of the Alpha werewolf and future heir. Despite her good ideas, the girl is soon discovered and she finds herself forced to tell them the reason for her coming. Understanding her error and knowing that Rook is not the future killer of her father, she remains determined to find out who the culprit is. While her presence perfectly matches an attack on a clan of werewolves, Brynn will do everything to help them understand what is happening, even if Magus and Wolves are sworn enemies, she can not abandon them, especially when a strong attraction between her and Rook appears. But the story in which she finds herself is much more complicated than she could have imagined and she ends up in the middle of something that transcends her. But all this could teach her many revelations about her origins, her family and her destiny.
I loved both characters. Brynn is a young woman broken by life and gradually returns to hope with this family who believes in her and her visions, something that nobody has done before. But she never would have expected to experience so many feelings about this wolf she did not know about. Yet a history seems impossible, their clans are enemies and relationship would prevent Rook to access to the Alpha role he is waiting for. Yet both are very endearing and it was really interesting to see their story evolve gradually. I was also very interested in the plot, in these different killers, in their reasons and the resolution of everything. Kelly Meade presents a very good story full of surprises and we discover that Brynn takes insurance and temperament over the chapters. It was really nice to see the change from the naive girl we discovered at the beginning of the novel. But of course we also discover other characters quite fascinating as the Alpha of the pack or the Rook’s brothers. Brynn’s father will also emerge as well as some very bad guys.
The story is initiated here but it is very far from over. I am very curious to read more now!(less)
I have a real weakness for Faes and when I saw this novel, especially the synopsis, I knew it would be perfect for me. And I must say that I had a great time with it and I am now very curious to read more. Bishop O’Connell presents us a rich and interesting world that we take pleasure to discover.
When Caitlin returns home after a party, she is attacked by a gang of some very strange young persons. Narrowly saved by a stranger who kills without flinching one of the attackers, she returns home to discover these persons trying to kidnap her daughter Fiona. Yes you can imagine that this will completely disrupt the life of the young woman who is determined to get her daughter back at all costs! But it seems that she won’t be alone in this adventure when her best friend, Edward is also involved in the adventure by revealing that he is a wizard. Caitlin is not enough already destabilized that she must now manage a whole new world she did not know about and when the stranger named Brendan decides that it is his mission to save Fiona, the young woman will be forced to trust him, and his friend Dante. But these two characters are not ordinary, oh no, because they are part of Faeries people and it seems that the girl is in this other world and it seems that she could be more important than expected.
While we follow Edward and Dante in some chapters and their quest in our world, we also follow the adventures of Brendan and Caitlin in Faerie, and no matter which side we are, I can tell you that the history is moving a lot! Indeed, the first two are trying to find out who the wizard who is helping to neutralize them is, but this wizard is well protected and determined to make them pay for this affront. On the other hand, we also follow, as I told it, Brendan and Caitlin in that other rally intriguing world. The two will have to work together to try to find the girl. Yet many obstacles will come in their way through and it will not be easy to achieve their goals. However, we meet many characters from different species and it’s true that I’m really curious to learn more about them. Oh yes because we meet Puck, but also kings and queens, and many other players fun to explore.
In terms of the plot I admit that I quickly realized where the author was going to lead us, so even if some of the revelations of the main frame didn’t surprise me, I found that everything was really well done and I didn’t have any problems with that. We anyway have some nice surprises and I am very curious to know what will happen later because the story is just beginning. I had a lot of questions about the possible couple Edward / Caitlin and Brendan / Caitlin and I confess that if the second appeared to me quite clearly, I have some trouble with the first. But in any case I think I’ll see how it will end exactly to see how they will evolve the one with the other. I really hope that we’ll see very quickly all the characters that I really appreciated here. It was a very good first novel and I am looking forward to read more! A great surprise for me!(less)
I did not know anything about the novel but I admit that the mention of ghosts always interests me a lot. I was therefore eager to get into the story to discover this story about Seth and Jules.
Jules flees the person she is as her gift had destroyed her life so far. After moving with her adoptive parents, she decides that it’s time for her to start a new life and forget the whole spirits thing. Despite the hope of a normal life, it seems that nothing is possible, especially when the spirits ask for her help, and they do not take « no » for an answer. Indeed, at the beginning of the book the young woman is haunted by a being she does not know about and when she tries to go home, she finds herself in the living room of a man. This is where the real problems begin … oh yes because the owner, Seth, is a policeman and he is not very happy to be awakened at night by a young woman, although sexy, dressed like a prostitute . And when she begins to explain that her clothes are only due to a competition, that there is a good reason for her presence in the place, Seth wonders what exactly is happening. But as he falls under the spell of this woman rather eccentric, it seems that she is also a key figure in a murder investigation. He is convinced that she is not the killer, but it turns out that Jules is always found in bad places, calling the attention of the police but also of very unsavory people. Jules might be forced to participate more than she thought in this story that could cost her her life.
I was quite curious to understand who was behind the murders and while we suspect someone, I found that the author had managed perfectly to lead us where she wanted. The story has many twists situations that I did not see coming at all. Jules is a young woman in search of a normal life, which seems impossible and she will quickly understand why. She is very good at attracting disasters and although she knows to cope alone in most cases, the danger is growing increasingly. We also discover her past that has marked her so far and it is true that it was not really a very pleasant time for her. Seth meanwhile is immediately attracted by the very young woman, but her presence at the crime scene has made her a perfect suspect, thus preventing any relationship. But this attraction seems very difficult to forget while the two young people are willing to succumb.
I had a good time with this book and I took pleasure in discovering the first Mary Behre novel. I’m curious to see what she will present next. Jules and Seth are in any case two characters that I loved to discover about the situations in which they are found. It is a nice blend of mystery, romance and ghosts.(less)
I already had the opportunity to read several books by Lora Leigh, but I do not think I’ve ever tried one of her romances. So when I received Nauti Enchantress I was immediately curious as I really liked the cover. Of course, I wonder which book it was in the series and I discovered that there are several different stories related to this series. So if I understand it right, it’s the second book in the Nauti Girls series, but there are several volumes before featuring the Nauti Boys. And I confess that this volume made me want to know more about the stories of each character highlighted here.
We discover Lyrica, a daughter of the Mackay clan who is overprotected by her brothers and uncles. She is now 21 years old but it seems that everyone monitors her actions constantly. Yet since the age of 18, the young woman dreams of a story with the brother of her best friend and while everyone is trying to prevent this at all costs, it seems that the idea is ingrained in her head. Yet there is a big problem … the man she loves, Graham, is known to have a new woman each month and they’re always the perfect bimbos. So yes, even if something would happen, the woman knows that no history will be possible between them. Yet something is actually going on, something that goes farther and farther, but they both know exactly what to expect and the young woman does not want to be heartbroken. But if Graham decides she’s the next one, she is not sure if she’ll be able to refuse. But while she is avoiding him, it seems that someone is after her and wants to kill her. And while the whole Mackay clan decides to overprotect her whether from the killer or Graham by all means, everything seems more difficult than expected … mainly when the history of the two intensifies, and that the killer gets closer and closer, and nobody understands why Lyrica is the target.
I do not read a lot of erotica books, it’s not really a genre that appeals to me particularly, but that does not mean that I can not have a good time with one and this novel is the right proof. I had a great time with this story and discovering Lyrica was very interesting. This young woman is monitored closely by all her family and I confess that I do not know how she does not get mad by this. Oh yes, because she is closely followed! And while her interest in Graham is known by all, every member of her family is determined to prevent it. But Lyrica knows what she’s doing, or at least she thinks she does and she would like to live as she wishes, if only Graham wanted to create a true relationship with her, not to be the next number of months. While Lyrica shows a fairly strong front, rebellious and outgoing, she also has a softer, vulnerable side that is difficult to hide. In contrast, Graham is someone who can seem quite arrogant when we do not know him, but he hides many secrets that could tarnish his life.
Each character will have to make concessions in order to understand these attempted murders and who is behind it all. I confess that at the end of the story, even though I suspected some reason, I was very interested in what really happened. It was a very good story that ends on a cliffy and I admit that I am quite curious about the Zoe’s story now that we have a glimps to her own story.(less)
I did not know anything about the series before reading this third and final volume. It is often easier to get into paranormal thrillers without looking at the order of the books than with fantasy novels. And yes, this is actually the case here! Even if we continue a story already begun earlier, I think it is not very complicated to easily get into the volume. But, even if it’s true that some events are recalled, as always I think it would be easier for the reader to try the first and second book before.
So we find our heroes Hallie and Boyd in the middle of a story that will completely mess up their lives. Indeed, while Boyd is patroling one night, he receives a call but while he doesn’t see anything suspicious at the young woman’s house, she finds herself shot. A race against the clock will begin for them as they try to understand what happened to stop the murderer before he starts again. But everyone seems to keep secrets, which does not help the investigation a bit in fact. If we also add ghosts, magic stones, a rather strange power, and Death, we have many things to do! Yes, you read right, even Death! Because it seems that he wants Hallie to take his place, even if she is not really of that opinion. Our two heroes have to team up to find out what is happening, trying to know if the supernatural world has an impact to the case or not. But in addition to this investigation, we also follow the stories of the secondary characters who will have a great impact throughout the chapters.
The author in this novel mixes many things and I admit that I was surprised by some aspects, including the late revelations as the identity of the culprit that I did not expect at all. The mixture of fantasy and thriller is very well done, even if it is true that I am still full of questions about these stones with extraordinary powers. Hallie and Boyd face many problems, although some join, others must be taken care separately. Their relationship seems rather odd but it is true and it was always interesting to see them together, trying to show what they feel without actually managing to do it. There is no romance in this book if that’s what you want, but a couple who is trying to support the other in a rather clumsy way and who is trying to move forward despite the obstacles.
The ideas found here are really interesting, but it’s true that some things are a little fuzzy for me. However, it is impossible for me to tell if it’s because I have not read the first volumes or if this is normal. In any case I had a good time with the story and I was curious to witness the resolution of the investigation and to uncover all the secrets!(less)
I do not read a lot of sci-fi books, but as soon as I read the synopsis, I knew that the story would please me. The idea of a plot, and a world governed by boosts that each person would own to allow them to live in a virtual world, was very interested. I must say that this is a bit of a caricature of our society, as well as quite plausible possibility for our future.
In this context, we discover Ralf, a man working for the government, a network prodigy whose life will be turned upside down. Indeed, during a meeting with one of his friends, Suzy, he discovers a flaw in the next update of the boosts. After the American population fought for some semblance of privacy, everything seems now to be compromised without anyone knowing it. But Ralf is determined to understand what is happening, if we give him time to do so anyway. Oh yes, because as soon this new problem is discovered, Ralf is kidnapped and his boost is removed before he manages to escape. For a man who has always lived in this virtual world and who works on it, this change is radical. Unable to retrieve the memories he has stored in its chip, it’s impossible for him to do research on the internet or contact another person across the network. Yes Ralf will have to learn how to live, and with his friend Ellen, a young woman in conflict with herself, he will go to South America to find his brother Simon and manage a way to reinstate his boost. But while he has not seen his brother for years, he will realize that he is in fact at the heart of a story that is totally beyond him. Chased by some, helped by others, Ellen and Ralf will discover that their world hides many secrets and they could make a difference.
I loved this story and the world was fascinating to discover. Ralf is a smart guy but determined at all costs to get his boost back. He will also discover many secrets about his family that we did not expect. Indeed, he joined his brother, Simon, a man who has always struggled to accept this life and who lives now on the margins of society. But from there, Ralf will understand that something is going on and that the secret about Juarez where wild men who refused implant live, could be different from want it seems to be. Some lovely ideas are featured here and I was curious to see how it would all end up. I must say that we finally follow this small family in their plans and desires and everyone wants something different. I also enjoyed Ellen. This is a young woman who is ill at ease but despite a first naive impression she will be able to find her place in this new world.
So it was a good story and I’m curious to know if we’ll have a sequel or not. Everything was in any case very interesting.(less)
When I saw for the first time the cover and when I read the synopsis, I knew that I had to try the novel. It is true that in the end I am very surprised because the story is not at all what I expected. Not that it was not good, not at all, it was very interesting but also very special. You will understand exactly why later.
We discover Ellis who wakes up in a place she does not know about, but I must say that she doesn’t remember a thing about herself. Taken in a train to people who seem to know her, she hopes to understand what is happening. But everything seems new and no memory comes back to the surface whatever she might do. She finds herself thrown into a very strange world, where everyone seems to know her and wants something from her, while she is totally lost. As she tries to find the true through all these persons, it seems that a man, a dream or a nightmare appears to her, trying to take her away from this place. But who can she really trust?
We follow Ellis in her discovery of the city, as well as the characters throughout the story and it is true that it is very very difficult to understand what is happening. This is a young woman who is determined to find answers to her questions and not be influenced by the decisions of those who evolve around her. It must be said that none of the characters explains what they really want; living by certains rules we don’t know anything about. Oh yes, you will see that this story is really strange, and even more than that! We understand gradually that something is really not normal in this city, but it was not until the end of the novel that we realize what it is actually happening. And one thing is certain, we can not expect one second for the truth that we discover. Everything is really well found and very original.
Many very different characters appear alternately in the story and it is true that we are trying to penetrate their secrets. The two most mysterious are the mayor and the person who appears to the young woman. We do not understand their interest and emphasis, but all that will come in due time.
To conclude this novel was a pleasant surprise, even if it is very different from what I expected. We have here a first part of the history and even if the authors present us a kind of end, we don’t really have one and I’m very curious to see what they’ll have for us next.(less)
I was immediately attracted by the cover of the book when I saw it. Oh yes, because it is simply beautiful and I was curious to see how the story would be.
Lily Atwood turned 18 recently, but since the war is over, the young persons of this age are kidnapped by The Revealed, an organization with paranormal powers that nobody really knows about. Unfortunately, no one has ever been seen since. However, the young woman is receiving warning letters since her birthday, threatening to come and take her very soon. This fact became very newsworthy, because Lily is the daughter of a man posing for the presidency, a man who hopes to change the world and to make it better. In an attempt to protect her daughter up, he assigns her to stay locked at home until the age of 19, trying to make her busy. But that does not change the arrival of letters and Lily wants therefore to run away. She makes every effort to escape, to forget the threats, this overprotection she does not support. But whatever she does she is always overtaken by many guards who keep an eye on her. Or at least this is the case until Kai, the son of the enemy of her father and a very old friend. He is back from his military mission and he seems very interested in the young woman. But boy has he really changed or is he just trying to coax her to save his father?
I loved the novel from the first pages, including the Lily’s desire for freedom, her desire to escape and to be more than the daughter of a future president. And all this will change when Kai arrives. I loved the young man, even if it is true that it is very difficult to understand if we can trust him or not. Oh yes, because he is very mysterious … But I was really curious to learn more about him and to see what would happen to the young woman. I must say that we also have some nice twists that I did not see coming and I really liked the ideas of the author. For cons, I have a little less adhered to the second part of the story where we learn more about The Revealed, I do not know why … But one thing is for sure everything was really good and I took lot of fun in discovering this new novel. I’m just very curious to see what will happen thereafter to the young woman, as well as for Kai.
A good story that has surprised me, featuring a heroine in search of freedom and love but who finally finds a new purpose in her life, even if it means being separated from those she loves.(less)
