A collection of nine stories revolving in and around the Vampires in America series by D. B. Reynolds. Yes, they are short stories. Yes, you will find them more enjoyable if you have read the series. Yes, the ebook cost is 99¢. But come on, this ninety-nine cents is a pittance for something that will bring you incalculable gratification. Did I mention you should keep your significant other close at hand?
Three Vignettes provide a more intimate picture of Cyn and Raphael on Valentine’s Day, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve. Vignette #4, THE PARTY, details a bit more of Cyn’s family, but what I found to be more exhilarating is just how ALPHA Raphael can be!
The stories with Sophia and Colin and with Duncan and Emma are not to be missed either. Sophia deals swiftly with a challenge. While a wilder side of Emma starts to appear.
What I liked the most were the two stories featuring Sarah and Rajmund about his proposal and their wedding. THE WEDDING is the last story of the ebook and one of the best. The three mighty Vamp Lords come together, with entourage in tow, for the wedding when two of the ladies get kidnapped. What follows is priceless Cyn!
“We absolutely have to get out of here first. Raj will have a fit if he wakes up and I’ve been kidnapped again.”
“Tell me about it,” Cyn agreed gloomily. “Hell, if Raj is anything like Raphael, neither one of us will see the sunlight for years. Decades maybe.”
Sarah nodded vigorously. “Plus, it would totally ruin my wedding.”
“And that is the number one reason why it’s not gonna happen. You don’t fuck with a woman’s wedding day. So, let’s get this show on the road.”
It was a pleasure revisiting with the posse from the Vampires In America series and the hottest uber-alpha Vampires in town!(less)

A goddess of passion, Pamina (with "cat" Abra in tow) takes on a challenge when she overhears three women who
uttered the dismal words "sworn off men", it meant she had work to do. It was time for her to summon a bit of magic, spread a little passion and show these women they were far too young to rely on sex toys for the rest of their lives.
The story focuses on Lindsay and her remodeling of a room at the Pleasure Inn. Both she and Chad are amiable but one dimensional characters. I grew bored with Lindsay's constant sputtering about lack of sex, sexual tension, swearing off men, etc.

Once they start to work together on a screenplay, the true colors start to show.
Don't expect to find a deep, emotional BDSM book here. Ms. Carr delivers a well-written novella where Ty and Gwen discover what they like, what they need, and in the end acknowledge their love for one another.
Gwen's is reluctant to commit fully to Ty because she's afraid of getting her heart broken again and he will find her abnormal.
"So what if we like our sex rougher than other people? So what if we get off on things other people find bizarre? Big deal. I'm not f*cking them. I'm f*cking you and I want the same things you do."
Oh yeah, and the warning at the beginning of the book about explicit sex, et al . . . all true!
I was excited when I heard Ms. Tyler was working on a shifter/werewolf series, as I am a fan of her Hold Trilogy and have thoroughly enjoyed the first two books of her Shadow Force Series. Unfortunately, my crush is going to have to end there.
The story in the novella is simple enough: Their existence is being threatened with exposure and the Dires can’t let it happen. A young woman has been murdered and someone is willing to part with the videotape (of course for fame and fortune) to prove it was committed by a werewolf. Not a bad story line, but slim, very slim, and I was able to see right through it. A murder mystery wrapped around a ghost story too.
The Dire Alphas are “THE ALPHAS” of the Were population. They have been around for hundreds thousands of years and their job is to protect not only the regular werewolf population but the humans. Okay, if that’s the case, why do these guys have names like: Rifter, Vice, Jinx, Rogue, Stray and Harm? Those names are more apropos to a motorcycle club. Since they ride HD’s, are all bad-ass, and wear leather I guess it’s okay. *yeah right*
I got tired of reading, hearing, whatever about Brother Wolf. I get it – they’re werewolves.
Each of the Dire has their own special “ability”: dream walk, talk to ghosts - - - and I don’t know what else - - - but there are six Dires; so six supernatural skills. The sneak peek from DIRE NEEDS started out with a bag and quickly went south when Rifter starts to dream walk with Gwen:
And so he was now Brother Wolf both in Gwen’s bedroom and in her dream, and Brother Wolf complied by keeping his paw on Gwen’s hand to not break Rifter’s way into her dream.
I just don’t get it; this “sex in dreams” style of writing. The hero can get sum-sum and remember, but the heroine doesn’t. Whatever happened to the awesomeness of the preternatural werewolf without all that other crap piled on top?
However, if you, Dear Reader, are the type that enjoys the convoluted mess of additional talents, you are going to love the Eternal Wolf Clan Series. I’m taking a pass on this one. My TBR Bookshelf is teetering as it is.(less)
When Laurie asked me if I wanted to read BEHIND THE COURTESAN’S MASK, there wasn’t any hesitation from me – for several reasons. I’ve been seeing Ms. Kaye’s name bandied about online and I haven’t had the opportunity to sample her work. Historical romance is rapidly becoming my most favorite sub-genre and lastly, Harlequin romances are my crack. ARGH!!!
Constance has arrived in London to settle her sister’s affairs. A twin sister she met only six months ago and now, gone after such a short time. When an unexpected visitor arrives on her doorstep, Miss Prim-and-Proper Constance throws caution to the wind and lets the stranger keep assuming that she is her sister, the infamous Courtesan, La Perla.
The “dance” these two engage in while negotiating for one night of her services will leave you quivering.
The writing is enticingly erotic and hypnotizing. And this is before the H/h get hot and nasty!
Dipping her fingers into scented oils, slipping her wrist through what looked like a swansdown manacle, Constance tried to conjure up the dark and pleasurable world that her sister had inhabited. What would it be like? How would it feel to be her? To sin with a virile man, a potent man, a desirable man? A man who found no shame in indulging his desire? She closed her eyes, caressed her cheek with the feathers of the manacle and shivered. Here in this temple of the flesh, which was Annalisa’s domain, it was almost possible to imagine the exquisite pleasure that might result. Arousal rippled through her.
If you have shied away from reading Harlequin romances (you know who you are - - I’m not reading those! - - wouldn’t be caught dead reading that! - - old lady books - - blah blah blah). . . .BEHIND THE COURTESAN’S MASK is a good place to start. This short story had me hooked in seconds flat. The emotional intensity that develops between Constance and Troy is impressive and highly flammable! Ms. Kaye has captured the emotional hungering in BEHIND THE COURTESAN’S MASK that I feel makes an excellent historical romance. And in turn, she can add another fanatic to her following.(less)

I was a bit disappointed at 30 pages; I would have liked to see more of a story for Brandon and Em. But it is just as hot and sexy as expected from Ms. Black. If you're wondering who the heck Brandon is, yep so was I: his character is from the first Wicked Lovers book, WICKED TIES.

The H/h are uncomplicated characters and I knew what to expect. I'm not fond of commonplace items being used as sex toys because of the risk of injury. Because of that only three stars. Even though this is Book 2 of a series, it stands alone very well. However, now I need to read Book One!

A love story of Samson and Delilah. I know, it sounds corny, but it works.
Samson believes the woman in distress that shows up on his doorstep is his “surprise” birthday gift stripper from his friends. This case of mistaken identity leads to a passion that can’t be denied, secrets revealed and deception from unexpected sources. An original storyline that includes a powerful vampire with ED and several vampires who visit a psychiatrist on a regular basis. If the opening sentence of this novel doesn’t grab your attention, then someone needs to check your pulse – STAT! Oh, and yeah, it’s a dead giveaway of more to come…..
Although the plotline was thin and I could see where the story was going, it was fun getting there. Samson was a bit “over-the-top” at times and it took Delilah F-O-R-E-V-E-R to grow a backbone. The cast of characters are intriguing and the humor sprinkled throughout the story didn’t detract from it. I sure would like to be a fly on the wall when Amaury has his sessions with Dr. Drake. *giggle* (Sorry, Girls, I keep thinking of Rick Springfield!) Ms. Folsom puts a different spin on her vampire lore; it’s a breath of fresh air. (less)
There was one thing I didn’t like about RAJMUND – the cover. Out came my trusty, imaginary pencil and presto….. Chris “Thor” Helmsworth. Aahh…much better.
Raphael and Cyn make a brief appearance in the beginning to meet with Rajmund (Raj) in NYC to take care of “business”. While they are there, Cyn wants to meet up with an old friend, Sarah, who is currently living in Buffalo. It’s during this NYC get-together when Sarah and Raj first meet and the sparks start to fly. Don’t expect the same type of characters (hero and heroine) in Rajmund and Sarah as you find in Raphael and Cyn. These two are just as alpha and independent in their own way.
Sarah is psychic and it has come back to haunt her dreams. Instead of letting them destroy her, she uses them to find the kidnapped girls. Yes, she doesn’t want anyone to find out who she really is because of what happened in the past and she doesn’t want to live through that nightmare again. Yet, she can’t stand by and let young women die because no one will believe her. So, she takes action on her own.
Raj is a very powerful vampire who basically rules NYC. He is strong enough to overthrow his Sire - if and when the time comes. Rajmund is the alpha who radiates self-assurance, supremacy, and intellect. He truly cares that his children and human assets are well taken care of and all of their needs are seen to.
However, when Rajmund and Sarah start to work together on finding the missing girls, things really start to heat up. The playful banter, serious sharing, and, oh, the sexual tension. And then the big misunderstanding, which breaks both of their hearts and mine too. Fear not, missing girls still need to be found; Sarah still needs to be rescued; girls need to chat.
A shout-out for Emelie: Rajmund’s lieutenant has a few tricks up her sleeve. I like her; I really do!
Ms. Reynolds’ Vampire in America Series is one you must put on your TBR and/or Keeper Shelf. I started reading the series a bit backwards; reading the last book, SOPHIA, first and then continuing on in the correct order. I have rated all of the books ‘5 An Alpha Howl’, but RAJMUND, gets the Top Bite Award. Move over Raphael, there’s a new Lord in town (less)
The fascinating and secretive world of the Coteri Kingdom and their Valta nemesis was hard to put down. These shifters are unique. They aren’t limited to one animal form. Although, they tend to shift to their most familiar one more often.
Mina is devastated by the death of her mother. Even more so when she finds a hoard of letters written to her mother from her non-existent father. She is struck numb with the realization that not once in her 28 years did he bother to contact her.
Julia rarely spoke of Mina’s father. It seemed too painful for her when she did. On those rare occasions Mina could get her to share a story or two. Julia would talk of a man larger than life. Tall, dark and protective, he seemed to be every woman’s fantasy come to life. She had always wished she could at least see a photo of him or know more about his family and background, but Julia only revealed enough to let Mina know that the man who had fathered her was one of honor, devotion and love.
Mina’s heart breaks remembering the time her mother sat gazing out the window, lost in her own thoughts. She sets out on a quest to find her father – to ask “R”. Why.
Mathias, fearless Coteri General of the King’s Warriors, is chosen to protect Mina. He takes his position and duties very seriously; ensuring Mina is safe from the Valta threat. What he doesn’t expect is the animalistic attraction he has for her.
For the life of him, he couldn’t help himself. Her hair was long, lush and beautiful, and he itched to run his hands through it. Dark brown curls had bounced in the middle of her back as they had walked back to the hotel. She smelled like lust. Her face was pale and freckled and all he could think of was looking into those deep chocolate brown eyes while he plunged deep inside her, taking her hard and fast.
Their desire leads to a combustible passion that is forbidden by Coteri Law.
This book rocks! It just does it for me! INFINITE BETRAYAL gave me everything I look for in a great story: In-your-face characters, a worthy antagonist, realistic dialogue, captivating plot. When I turned the last page, damn, I wanted more. NOW! The secondary characters are vibrant. True Coteri Warriors, Tre and Talon, with hearts of gold.
Her gaze went to the big one. He must have been over six five and two hundred and eighty pounds. And from the looks of him, he was all muscle and attitude. Hell, as big as he was, she’d be surprised if he didn’t have to turn sideways to get through a doorway. She looked him up and down. He wore soft, tight black leather pants, biker boots and a heavy black leather jacket she immediately thought had to have been specially made for him. No way a coat that size could be purchased off the rack. He looked hard and extremely striking. Long wavy black hair brushed the tops of his shoulders and his eyes were the color of the ocean. He had a goatee, but Mina also noticed a day or two had probably passed since he last shaved the rest of his face. His hands were massive and rough looking. Well used.
King Roderic despairing over the choices he made. Valencia and Luca, the Valta, power hungry to rule. Chloe, Mina’s BFF, the only person she truly trusts.
I must warn you though. There is one part in the story when Mina is held captive. During this time she is brutalized, but not raped. If you find this offensive, just skip over it and don’t read it. You will still get the full scope of the story and the characters. However, I found it added greatly to the development of a central character.
Ms. Donnelly and Ms. Mackenzie are currently working on Talon and Chloe’s story, INFINITE SURRENDER. Write faster!
An entertaining tale of time travel with a wrinkle or two!
A gal, Siaylah, from 2005 is chosen by The Powers That Be (TPTB) to travel through time to ensure history’s prominent figures are kept out of harm’s way. The story opens with Siaylah in ancient Egypt protecting Ramses II. Once her task is completed there, TPTB snatch her up and deposits her in the American Wild, Wild West – circa late 1800’s. The period of time she despises most.
“No, no, no. I need my indoor plumbing! Even ancient Rome had indoor plumbing for chrissakes! I can’t LIVE without running water and indoor plumbing.”
Apparently, TPTB were asleep at the wheel this time; as Siaylah is still wearing the white tunic. They didn’t change her clothes from her days in ancient Egypt. And they didn’t “whisper” the knowledge she needed for the era. Enter Nick. Who believes Siaylah is the “professional lady” he has just bought and paid for. The misunderstanding that ensues between Siaylah and Nick lead to passion and a dangerous showdown.
TPTB never make an appearance or explain their actions. That wasn’t a problem as the story is well written. The sex scenes involving Nick and Siaylah are erotic as well as romantic. I really felt the connection between these two. One note though. At the beginning of the story, there is a scene between an Egyptian warrior and a harem girl that is somewhat coarse. Nonetheless, it plays an essential part in the tale. Nick is the consummate alpha cowboy. And don’t be dissuaded by the book cover. It is self-explanatory once you have read the tome. I really enjoyed reading THROUGH TIME INDEFINITE, and I look forward to what Ms. Shields will offer in the future as she continues to mature as an author. (less)
Belladonna is a small town, backwoods girl whose dreams of Bela Lugosi lead her to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. It doesn’t take Belladonna long to learn that fame and fortune is a fickle mistress. And just when she is feeling hopeless, Vivant spies her.
Vivant was captivated by her. The pink blush on her cheek, the soft, blood-red lips, and the scent of innocence that came off her skin was like expensive perfume to him, a rare and heady aroma.
Vivant - here is a Vampire worth loving, and well, maybe hating on occasion. A rich, beautiful, talented, and egotistical immortal who thought “everybody should love him”. Belladonna doesn’t fall at his feet in worship and the sparks start to fly. The love/hate relationship of “Bells” and Vivant is explosive and carnal. She is still captivated with Bela Lugosi and is more determined than ever to meet him. When Bells’ brother, Cal, shows up in town looking for her, he falls in with the wrong crowd. And things really start rockin’!
“Aren’t you going to apologize for vomiting on my shoes? I’m not impressed,” he told Cal.
“You’re shoes? You want me to apologize for ruining your shoes?”
“Yes, Cal, that would be the civilized thing to do.”
Cal looked at him with incredulity. He’d just shot half his face off and wanted him to say he was sorry for spewing on his shoes.
Yes, it does contain a few bloody bits, but they don’t last very long, and I feel they are central to the storyline. VAMPIRE VINTAGE BOOK ONE delivers a riveting tale of jealousy and vengeance, ending with a HFN. If you need a change from the Vamp-du-jour, this will satisfy your appetite. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Javier left Catherine 200 years ago without a word. Now he’s back and wanting to pick-up where they left off. Only this time, Catherine isn’t the same young wolf Javier knew; she has done quite a bit of growing up since then. She is on an undercover mission with the fey, Talen, to save both of their clans and the Were King Brac, who has been kidnapped by the Fey King, Feroas. Javier could very well put their lives in danger. Someone has been helping Feroas gain more magick and power.
Now he waltzed back into her life, expecting to pick up right where they had left off. He should have known that things had changed. Life wasn’t the same as when they were both young senators in Barcelona. It was more complicated now and more dangerous.
I liked the premise of this story: kidnapping, suspense, and subterfuge with the addition of a bit of ménage a trios (m/f/m = vamp/were/fey), m/m, and a bit of bondage. However, when the characters kept referring to the Senate in Barcelona and the Immortal Council, I felt as if I was missing something important. Maybe it was the back story of the Council and the history of Javier and Catherine.
The one ménage scene was puzzling. I understand what and why Javier, Catherine and Talen participated, but it didn’t work for me. The scenes between Catherine and Javier were hot and intense - those silken, heated ribbons Javier used…..well….. The m/m went overboard with the cruelty involved.
Javier remembered the rumors he had heard back in Barcelona of the fey king’s sexual preferences. Feroas dominated his servants in every way possible and that included sexually. It didn’t matter whether they were male or female. The tales of abuse and humiliation made Javier cringe.
King Feroas was using orgies, sex and violence, and the energies they produced to gain more and more power. Feroas hunger for power is almost comical.
If you’re a Suzanne Rock fan and you enjoyed Book 1 of the Immortal Realms, I’m sure you’ll like this one. For me, the promise of an impressive tale was lost in the tangle of brutality and magick, magick, magick. (less)
