He’s frustrated because he is well past the age when he should have his “spurs” and be a knight. Just like your typical eighteen year-old (well, for Medieval England), William is brash and pretentious. He also has all the qualities you would find in an aspiring knight: Honor, loyalty, sincerity. I thoroughly enjoyed watching William as he struggled with becoming a knight and with his intense feelings for Robert. William is confident in his training as a knight, but whenever Robert is near watching him: Two left feet!
The relationship between William and Robert develops slowly. All the while, the authors hook you with a seductive Sir Robert; who is very patient with William. I picture Robert as being a bit older than William and much wiser; thus, teacher and student.
A theme that plays throughout is William’s inner struggle: His conflict between his love for Robert and his faith. How can something that is so genuine be considered evil?
William wanted to be Robert’s equal, yes, in virtues. And if what he felt and what they did in pursuit of physical pleasure was a true sin, then he wanted to be equal in this sin, too. Maybe such a sin would be forgiven if he possessed enough of the other virtues?
It was heartbreaking to watch William question his love for Robert.
A very enjoyable read; even for a novella. And you know me and novellas! Just think of the meat it could have had as a full length novel……. ...more
I didn’t want to like these guys, not even a little. They were so tormented. They kept denying themselve Read my review at Bitten By Paranormal Romance
I didn’t want to like these guys, not even a little. They were so tormented. They kept denying themselves love. I just wanted to take Damon and LC by the shoulders, shake them, and yell, “Snap. Out. Of. It.” In the end, I couldn’t help myself, I fell and hard.
When Damon Price was 18, he suffered a terrible tragedy and never fully recovered. Letting someone get close, love him was impossible until Jesse -- almost. Tanner James feels responsible for Jesse’s death and wants to honor his friend’s last request. The initial encounter between Tanner and Damon is volatile and sets the tone for the rest of the book. Unfortunately, after the scene with Damon, Tanner is left shaken; disturbed and confused by the feelings that Damon has awaken within him. Tanner feels he won’t be able to do what Jesse requested of him -- he is set to self-destruct. Damon realizes his mistake and orders Tanner to spend the weekend with him.
He called himself a bastard several times over for the man he’d left behind and the one in front in him who was obviously in trouble. Probably had been for a while and Damon had been too wrapped up in himself to notice.
Tanner and Damon are highly combustible alphas who need each other desperately. Although, they want to remain blind to it, everyone else around them can see it. Including Damon’s BFF, LC. (Who has his own fair share of lovelorn problems.) Even as their relationship grows, Tanner continues to deny his submissiveness while Damon persists to believe he’s fulfilling Jesse’s last wish. Along the way, a series of brutal attacks on a few of the Crave club patrons has occurred outside of the club. Not only are Damon and LC concerned for their clientele and the business, but the attacks have brought back painful memories for both men.
Damon feels he can’t be forgiven or loved because of his past, but Tanner doesn’t give up and gives Damon one last chance. LC on the other hand, has been fooling himself, waiting (for too damn long IMHO) on a hope and a dream.
And, oh yes, you will experience man love, BDSM, the club scene and D/s.
What a breathtaking love story. Two people who are meant for each other but are afraid…… Without a doubt, these are Men of Honor. I am looking forward to reading LC’s story in Bound By Law. ...more

Yes, a Christmas anthology, but it doesn’t need to be the holidays to enjoy these deliciously romantic stories. I applaud Carina Press for putting together such talent and delivering a sweet seasonal treat.
Mistletoe at Midnight by LB Gregg Owen and Caleb fell in love during high school but were separated due to circumstances beyond their control. Now 15 years later, they are brought together, due to circumstances beyond their control. They must confront the past and hope for the future. I enjoyed the parts of the story told in flashback; getting the opportunity to watch the beginning of Owen and Caleb’s relationship. Owens’ Mom and Brother are your typical loving “interfering” family members. They are a hoot!
Nine Lights Over Edinburgh by Harper Fox A mesmerizing story of a desperate man who loses himself in alcohol and gambling. Detective Inspector James McBride is a lonely man who feels comfortable when out on his “streets”. But his descent into the darkness has its price, and McBride must face the consequences of his actions. Just watching McBride open up and realize there are different types of love and that he is worthy of love was a beautiful metamorphosis.
I Heard Him Exclaim by Z.A. Maxfield You couldn’t have a Christmas anthology without Santa Claus - this one even has elves! Steve has had enough problems this past year and heads to “Sin City” Vegas for the holidays. On his way he runs into Chandler and Poppy who are having auto problems. There is an immediate attraction. Chandler feels insecure and irresponsible. He isn’t cut out for the job of parenting - not ready for a kid. (Does this sound familiar to any parents out there? It did to me.) Steve on the other hand is the opposite when it comes to kids - plenty of nephews and nieces. Poppy even calls Steve “Santa Claus”. I couldn’t help but chuckle when reading the stolen moments quickie between Steve and Chandler. *grin*
Icecapade by Josh Lanyon How can you not love a seasonal read when the leading characters are: The Diamond Thief Noel Snow and The FBI Special Agent Robert Cuffe! Those names just rock! These two have it bad. I mean B.A.D. After one hot night, they haven’t seen or spoken to each other in 10 years - 10 frellin’ years!! There is a reason to their madness. Noel and Robert had to survive their chosen career paths to reclaim a passion they once shared. Noel is surprised when Robert knows so much about him. And Robert is so, so alpha: strong, silent type.
Now, you may be wondering why only the Sexual Rating of Steamy. Yes, the man love is HAWT! But it is not the sole focus of the story. It adds to the development of the relationship between the characters. What I found present in each of the tales was a breathtaking romance. ...more

From the very first chapter I felt a disconnect between Laurent and Sebastian. It was sex, plain and simple. But I wanted to give it a chance. I kept reading.
Laurent put his full strength behind each well-aimed blow.
WTH! A blow like that from a vampire would most likely break human bones. But, I keep reading.
Deep purple bruises and welts had formed. Laurent was quite satisfied. "Are you in pain?" He whispered the words close to Sebastian's ear. "Yes." "The pleasure," Sebastian mumbled. "You want pleasure, dear one?" "You promised. Never would have done that."
Sebastian can't sit down at this point!
I read to page 108, Chapter Nine, and I had enough. Laurent was pissed because his sex toy, Sebastian, wasn't acting according to his superior morals.
BTW, I did receive this in a giveaway from Amara's Place.
I was transported back to the days of Sergeant Joe Friday of Dragnet and Humphrey Bogart while reading SNOWBAL Reviewed at Bitten By Paranormal Romance
I was transported back to the days of Sergeant Joe Friday of Dragnet and Humphrey Bogart while reading SNOWBALL IN HELL. The story starts out with a noir-esque feel to it, but the tone subtly changes about a quarter of the way through to a more contemporary nature. Either that or I just got used to Mr. Lanyon’s writing style.
A smartly written murder mystery that places the characters front and center, while the romance aspect of the story stays somewhat in the background. Spain and Doyle meet when a body is pulled from the tar pit. What starts out as a simple homicide quickly turns into kidnapping and blackmail. As the case progresses and more players get involved, Spain finds that he isn’t prepared to face the emotions he has for Doyle. Doyle on the other hand, longs to be loved, if just for a little while.
And there is was: the longed-for warmth of hands on his bare skin, the strength and gentleness that he craved but could never – would never - find except in fleeting, stolen moments.
Their Christmas encounter is a poignant and telling scene. Doyle and Spain begin to share their feelings, but the fear of discovery keeps them at arm’s length. It’s only when Doyle takes an unnecessary risk that they realize if there’s a will, there’s a way.
This story ended way too soon for me! I wanted more of Matt Spain’s enthusiastic optimism along with Nathan Doyle’s persistent self-flagellation. ...more

Well now – that’s a hook-up! And I would expect no less from Ms. Kennedy and Decadent’s 1NS series. The cover alone lets the reader know they are in-store for hot deliciousness!
Both Wyatt and Rye, separately, contacted 1NS dating service months ago, hoping the agency would be able to connect them with a female of their dreams; if only for one night. What they don’t expect is their mutual attraction toward each other. Wyatt is hesitant to acknowledge his emotions because of his position as a U.S. Marshall. Whereas, Rye has no doubts about how he feels for the rough and rugged Wyatt. The initial seduction of Wyatt is volatile and what immediately follows between the two alphas is explosive.
Ms. Kennedy teases near the end with the same cryptic text message sent from Madame Eve, of 1NS, to both Rye and Wyatt. Which leads me to believe these two may get their match from 1NS yet. A girl can dream…… ...more
We were introduced to LC “Law” Connor and Paulo, with a glimpse of Styx, in BOUND BY HONOR. The story continue Reviewed at Bitten By Paranormal Romance
We were introduced to LC “Law” Connor and Paulo, with a glimpse of Styx, in BOUND BY HONOR. The story continues here when Law takes the plunge on another chance at love with Paulo, only to have Styx come bursting back onto the scene after being absent for 10 years (or was that 16 years?).
Because of his past connection to Styx, Law’s life is being threatened. CIA Agent Styx shows up out of nowhere and tells Law they, (Law and Paulo) are in deadly danger and need to move to a safe house. Well, this goes over like a ton-o-bricks with Paulo, but as circumstances stand, they have no other choice.
It’s during this time at the safe house(s) where you learn the backstory of the men and what motivates them. Especially what has happened to jog Styx’s memory and have him take action. Styx initially left all those years ago to protect the one he loved, and has been doing it ever since. Law finally found love again after many years in Paulo and doesn’t want to lose it, but is torn between the two men. Paulo knows what he has with Law and is ready to fight for it, but an attraction to Styx catches him by surprise.
There is an element of suspense woven throughout the book as Styx, Law and Paulo stay one step ahead of the goons. (Oh yeah, they’re all alphas: Styx – CIA; Law - former Delta Force; Paulo - Detective.) The sorrow is also tangible when their past comes to light. The main story is during the time spent in the safe house(s) and the conflict the men have coming to terms with the love they have for one another. During this time, Paulo demonstrates his love for Law by making the ultimate sacrifice.
After being dazzled by Damon and Tanner in BOUND BY HONOR, I couldn’t wait to read Law’s story. Unfortunately, there were times that I was plain bumfuzzold by this book. I would lose track of who said what. Take this passage for instance:
“You don’t know what I did. What kind of guy I was. What if what you know is only what you think you know? I might not be who you think I am.” Styx looked so troubled at his own words that Law could hardly stand it. “I know enough,” he told Styx fiercely. “I’m dangerous.” “So am I.” Styx pushed away. “You and Paulo should hide. Away from me.” “No.” “I’m not giving you the choice.” “I’m through letting you push me away for my own good. That’s just as dangerous and it’s obviously not working.” Styx was protecting him again – the fucking asshole.
And the 10 years (or was that 16 years?) thing? Who intentionally waits in this day and age that long to find love? Yes, I have a real problem with that. Continuing with that same conversation above, I give you:
“I’ve been ruining your life for ten years.” “Don’t flatter yourself,” Law scoffed, the truth of that statement hitting him harder than it should, because although he’d never considered his pining for Styx something that ruined him, he’d definitely been pining. Hoping. Waiting, like a fucking girl. Jesus Christ. It had taken ten years – actually, sixteen if he counted when Styx originally left – to open himself up.
One more, then I quit, promise. These guys have Daddy (and Mommy) issues. Not your run-of-the-mill, “My son is a homosexual so I am going to disown him,” issues – OH NO. Nothing that simple. They included a bigoted pervert, a mafia assassin and a child abuser. Of course, all were homophobic and have more issues that what I’ve listed here.
Oh, and in case you are interested, BOUND BY LAW IS surging with manlove. You’ll find yourself occupied with D/s, bondage, DP, anal, oral and, of course, ménage a trios.
These three men may be bound by Law, but their HEA is cemented by Paulo. ...more

Little did Armand know what he was walking into when he strolled into Del Fantasma. He was searching for a brief respite from the unrelenting chill running through his body and the loneliness that was his constant companion. Krakow sat alone in the dark of the corner. He needed to be in the company of these beings, but couldn’t risk the pain again and so kept to himself. Enter matchmaker extraordinaire: the owner of Del Fantasma and bartender, Cody Warren.
Cody sets a Toasted Almond (yes, it’s a cocktail) in front of Armand and tells him to go sit over in the corner where it’s warmer. Krakow wonders what exactly Cody is up to, sending someone over to his corner; knowing good and well the guy will move as soon as he finds the corner too warm. Relaxing, Armand finds the warmth comfortable and even starts to sweat. He is startled when he realizes he is not alone in that corner. Krakow is amazed as he watches Armand’s reactions to Krakow’s heat.
“What’s happening here?” Armand gasped out, breaking into Krakow’s contemplation. “Who are you?” Could it be? Was it possible? Does he have any idea? No. If there were one thing Krakow felt sure of it was that the man beside him truly had no clue as to his nature.
As Krakow takes Armand under his wing to gingerly guide Armand to his true nature, the power of these two magnificent beings ignite the pages. Careful….or you may get singed! Armand’s insistent eagerness is tempered by Krakow’s methodical and deliberate development of Armand’s nature. Whoa! And it is hot – scorching - hot!
The paranormal features are well developed for a short story. A time or three I would re-read just to be sure I was clear on what I had read. Okay, I admit - I am a virgin when it comes to this creature and I’ve just had my cherry popped. (But now that I’ve had a taste, I want more. Yes, Laurie, you told me so.) Krakow and Armand are sincere but cautious when moving forward, but they are more fearful of saying “No” and not finding out at all.
Overall, a blistering man love, paranormal romance that will leave you breathless. Hmm, I think it’s time for a Toasted Almond. ...more

The characters are all one dimensional and I knew what to expect from them. No surprises here. Jonathan: ‘O, woe is me. Everybody hates me, I’m gonna eat some worms’. Lynch: Continuingly running and hiding from his problems. Wants someone to chase after him and make it all go away. Dominic: The arrogant and beautiful ‘no one can refuse me’ vampire. Although, he did have the best lines:
Believe it or not, Brent was the one who brought me to my senses. He’s a pretty package, but he can’t compare to you. Just like some mangy shapeshifter can’t compare to me. True, you might wake up after a night with me and find a couple of puncture wounds in sensitive places. Wake up after a night with him, and you might find yourself infested with fleas.
This WILD OASIS felt more like a dry mirage. It was never explained why the relationship didn’t work out between Jonathan and Dominic. When the posse from the condo, Wild Oasis, went to The Club, I never understood the reasoning behind ‘the curtain’. The intrigue behind the kidnapping of Lynch is thin – very thin. What I missed the most while reading this was passion: No snap, crackle, pop, heat, sizzle, burn. More like a flatline -----------------
Reading the book blurb, I had a suspicion this was a paranormal romance. No matter, the paranormal aspect is just about nil and way too tame for an M/M paranormal romance. Yes, there are numerous erotic events, including anal penetration, but I didn’t feel any emotional connection between the characters. It was more like friends with benefits. *looking at watch* “Done yet? I’m Oscar Mike!” ...more

The blurb above is the perfect setup for this devastating and compassionate tale. Mathias has resigned his commission and now his love, Rudolph, doesn’t even know who he is. Rudolph injured his head during the battle when he fell from his horse and is suffering from a rare case of amnesia. Rudolph can’t remember the last two years of his life and, at times, can’t remember what happened yesterday. Mathias has no one, no family, no friends, no employment. Rudolph is being sent home to his “large aristocratic family and fortune” to convalesce. Mathias decides to journey along with Rudolph to Berlin - hoping that along the way something; anything will spark recognition in Rudolph’s eyes.
During the journey, Mathias has to hold his emotions and the nature of their relationship in check for fear of damaging Rudolph even further. He continuously looks for the smallest hint of the man that Rudolph use to be. Mathias’ despair grows even more when he realizes Rudolph perceives him only as a friend and Berlin holds more than just family.
MUFFLED DRUM is an emotionally charged tale driven by vibrant characters. It was heartbreaking to watch Rudolph and Mathias as they struggled to find their way back to one another. It was sorrowful knowing Mathias could do or say nothing to the man he loved – to tell Rudolph of their past. Whereas, Rudolph was now living two years in the past, has no inclination of what Mathias meant to him, and has someone waiting for him in Berlin.
Overall, a splendid second-chance at love. Mathias and Rudolph overcome the odds and rediscover what they once shared. ...more
