The book design is not attractive, yet the subtle logos of companies arrayed in grey on the cover grabbed my attention. I read the inner sleeve and skimmed through the chapters; I think I have to get this one.
And I'm glad I took it home with me.
The introduction is gripping, and got my attention. The title itself is taken from a quote by the late Steve Jobs. Befittingly.
The chapters are based on each companies being portrayed; and what's interesting is about the stories behind their product development, idea, how they got to the masses, and how they achieve cult status even.
Reading the book is a little bit like reading an anthology of short stories. It's a page turner and I can't seem to put it down. Evidently, I finished this book in less than a week (the fastest for me so far). However, the previous chapters were reiterated in the later ones to give relevance, build up strength and to bind the points being driven by the author. You may read the chapters by itself although you'd be itching to know what was being discussed about in the earlier ones should you decided to start from the middle.
However, the very last chapter slowed me down a bit. Albeit, it is still interesting as Jay does have some more stories embedded in there too.
Overall, I love this book. Perhaps because it gives some inside scoop, stories from the names that I know and can relate to. Perhaps also for the positive tone of the whole book....more
Perhaps this one is my first travel reference book that I read so far. I picked this up brand new and cheap (RM5) at a magazine store in KL Sentral.

Istanbul is a place that I would like to visit one day, hopefully next year. So this comes out as a mini inspiration. Indeed, it does point out many, many things to be discovered in Istanbul (and the Aegean Coast).
The inside of the front cover is a folded map of Istanbul showing the places of interest. While reading the guide, I kept coming to it to locate the places being described. Plus, (and I facepalmed myself for this) the back cover is also a map showing the larger area of Turkey, which I came to know about only when reaching the very last page of the guide. Duhh...!
The organization of the book is good, and there are tips and local knowledge being sprinkled therein. It may not be current, but at least it gives some insight about the city. I like the size of the guide. Small enough to fit the back pocket of my jeans (male, loose fit)....more
I saw on the cover this author being equated to 'Stieg Larsson' and (also being sold cheap) that prompted me to grab this book.

However, I find that how the story being told is quite far from Larsson's style. Even more annoying is that the entire mystery being unravelled right at the end of the book. It was quite a drag to go through the story build-up while the suspense element is not apparent enough.
However, the mystery is clever and I very much applaud the writer's idea on the execution of killing the victim. Indeed it is very much out of the box and unique.
I love how the Professor character is being used and his way of thinking ultimately helped solve the puzzle.
A good read, once you get past page 320 (out of 377). :P...more

This is a story that doesn't sound too good to be true. It is a story which shows us that things are possible if we spend enough time and effort. For William, his success is against all odds. But such are the story of other successes. However, his seems to be much more closer to the common people. A reminder that all of us can achieve what we want to achieve once we plan and set our minds to it.
I admit it was a bit of a struggle to get to the halfway point of the book which is detailing the background of his life and environment. However, after that is a downhill ride. William succeeded in having his electric wind and bigger success doors opened for him after another. I reserve the single star because I feel that the details of his travels, schooling and further projects after TED are being left out. Perhaps reserved for another book?
A very good read nonetheless. I cannot recommend more.
