I simply loved them. The story, however, was a different story. While I understood the purpose of the book, and that the story fulfilled its purpose, I just didn't care for the story. I think trying to explain things such as extreme allergies to little kids won't go well. They are too little to completely understand it, especially when you tell them that you get to be a princess if you get sick from a peanut. All they will want to do is get sick so that they can be special. (less)

Part of the time, I just wanted to smack her and tell her to shut up and move on. I know that she was suffering from a variety of things, but I still felt like she could have handled it better and was playing it up to make a better story. I know that's not very caring of me, but I can't help it. That's how I felt while reading the book. (less)

It's great to read an honest book about being a parent by someone who isn't just going to tow the line and, instead, will say it how it is and give you advice on how to cope with the things that crop up when you are a parent. It truly paints a realistic portrait of the lives of those in Poland who had to live during the occupation by the Germans. I had a hard time getting through the book, as I do with any book that has to do with WWII and/or the Holocaust, but I think the story is an important one to be told. The writing was solid and the author did a good job of taking a historic tale and making it identifiable to someone from today's society. (less)

I find ghost stories fascinating, so I was instantly hooked! The only major problem I saw was that the author kept switching between past and present tense in her writing. That irked me as it took me out of the story each time it happened. (less)
