I still think that Hawksong is the strongest out of the series so far. I felt like the author wanted to try to write a book with out a strong love interest. I thought more would happen between Oliza and Nicias but nothing ever came of it at all. It was all about Nicias trying to figure out which group of people to stay true to. Needless to say I will only be reading this one once....more
Recommend: Those who loved the Mortal Instruments Series. Those who wanted to read more about Jace and Clary, now that they are together! YEA!
Highlights: *Jace and Clary are together! I will say that tension runs high between them. Jace still needs to learn that Clary is a big girl and needs to trust her. *Simon is playing the field. Yes, he is dating two girls, Maia and Isabel at the same time. It is funny watching him try to correct the mistake. I have to say I was rooting for Isabel. She may seem cold, but I think it hides the real her. *Everyone has secrets in this book. It tears some apart, but some stay strong and together. *Demon hunting abounds and shadowhunters end up dead. *Babies are being abandoned. *Luke and Jocelyn get married. *Someone comes back from the dead!
Things that bothered me: *Switched views a little much for me. It was hard to follow sometimes. *Thought Clary and Jace learned to communicate before, however I was wrong. This caused frustration and heartburn. Well maybe not the heartburn.
Quotes: "No. That's Clary; shes's my best friend." Simon pocketed his phone. "And she has a boyfriend. Like, really, really, really has a boyfriend. The nuclear bomb of boyfriends. Trust me on this one."
"You're just worried they'll hire a male instructor and he'll be hotter than you." Jace's eyebrows went up. "Hotter than me?" "It could happen," Clary said, "You know, theoretically." "Theoretically the planet could suddenly crack in half, leaving me on one side and you on the other, forever and tragically parted, but I'm not worried about that either. Some things," Jace said, with his customary crooked smile, "are just too unlikely to dwell upon."
"So what was that all about?" "I think," Jace said, "that she asked if she could touch my mango." "She said that?" Jace shrugged. "Yeah, then she gave me her number."
"You know, some people think Shadowhunters are just myths. Like mummies and genies." Kyle grinned at Jace. "Can you grant wishes?" "That depends," he (Jace) said. "Do you wish to be punched in the face?"
"But I watch my brothers give their hearts away and I think, Don’t you know? Hearts are breakable. And I think even when you heal, you’re never what you were before."

High points: *Bree can switch everything around and you will still like it. *Daniel remains a wonderful Boyfriend through to the end, but that doesn't mean you don't want to smack him every once and a while. *Most surprised with Brace. She really let the ball drop and put blinders on. *Finally we meet Gabriel! I was confused about him for most of the book.
Little issues: *the ride was crazier then expected. I almost put the book down. *Lying happened with about every character and it just got old. Lead to way too many heartbreaks. *Ending was a huge surprise, hope it will be righted in the next book.
Quotes: "If you let anger into your heart, it will push out your ability to love."
"I know there's still good in you, Jude," I whispered. "You were always such a saint...and now you're lost. But you're still my brother." ...more

I am now finally getting around to posting a review of this Great book and Amazing Series!
Warning: You may not be able to put this book down! Curran Addiction is a huge possibility!
Recommend: I recommend this to anyone who wants a Great Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance. It has enough for either of them. If you are looking for a Kick-Butt Female Character and a Sexy Alpha Male then look no farther!
Tons of Action and a dash of romance that adds to the flavor of the book. Yummy and deliciously filling.
We enter a "Whole New World" at the beginning of this book. Atlanta, Georgia (where the book takes place) and the rest of the world has suffered from a "magic apocalypse." We meet Kate Daniels right from the start. She is sitting at home enjoying her Boone's Farm Hard Lemonade. She gets a surprise visit from a Vampire who is being piloted by Ghastek, a Master Vampire. Kate is not happy having an undead in her house and shows her love by slicing it's throat open. Yes, she did that while she was sitting down. Ghastek proceeds to inform her that the man who helped raise her, Greg, has been murdered. For this information he asks for her help in solving the murder since one of his own was also killed off. We then get to watch as Kate wrestles her way into solving this murder to get revenge and closer for Greg. In the process she gains his home and more "power words." It seems that Atlanta's Shifters seem to be caught up in this mess as well. The Beast Lord himself, Curran, asks to meet with her and wants the same cooperation that the Vampires do. The stage is set and the players are let loose. It is a fight to the end to see who will come out on top and who is guilty of murder.
*Kate Daniels is one of my fav. female characters of all time. Her past is so messed up it is amazing she turned out decent at all. She is a fighter as she has been raised to be, by her mothers "lover."
*Curran is the ultimate sexy male in this book series and rivals many in other series in my opinion. He is the Alpha over all the shifters in the region. He shifts into a mighty, mighty lion. [image error]
"Here, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty"
"It's a reflex. Hear a bell, get food. See an undead, throw a knife. Same thing, really."
"Why a raven?" To honor my father." The writing under it, is that Cyrillic?" Yes." What does it say?" Dar Vorona. Gift of the Raven. I am my father's gift" The raven is holding a bloody sword." I never said it was a nice gift."
"Men and swords. My father said that if you put any able-bodied man, no matter how peaceful, into a room with a sword and a practice dummy and leave him alone, eventually the man would pick up the sword and try to stab the dummy. It is human nature."
"He finished the bandage and was examining it critically. “You know those things are unreliable”. His voice held just a touch of reproach. “Eleven out of twelve work fine. I’d say that’s better chances than getting an orgasm with a blind date and women still try”. ...more
Positives: *Original ideas about Vampire's and Hunter's. New take from a teen's view. *Dru is a capable character that has her up's anGreat New Series!!
Positives: *Original ideas about Vampire's and Hunter's. New take from a teen's view. *Dru is a capable character that has her up's and down's but learns that she can handle herself and help take care of Graves as well. *Graves is an interesting character so far. Orphaned but book smart, he is learning about Dru's world at a fast pace and keeping up. *Plenty of action once the character's and the plot is on a role. A little romance is tossed in just to spice it up. *Christophe is my fav. male character in the series. Can't help but love him and be terrified at the same time. Great addition.
Negatives: *I got weighed down with all the background. *A lot of repeating of phrases or scenes. I understood why they were there, but I just skimmed them to get back to where it left off. *Ending was abrupt, but next book made up for it.
"Better to be strong than pretty and useless."
"His shoulder bumped mine again. "Can I ask you something?"
I didn't answer. He was going to ask me anyway. People don't say that if they don't want to pry something out of you."
"I guess since the groin is the center of a guy's world, he rarely guesses it isn't the center of yours."
"You're not dead. You're too goddamn annoying to be dead."
"I searched for something witty to say, settled for bare honesty. "I want to pee."
"I've been bitten, beat up, tied to a bed, James Bonded out, and now you finish off by choking a goddamn teacher!"
"Why can't I have a normal girlfriend?" he asked the air over his head. "I finally meet someone I like and she turns out to be crazy."
"The smell of apple pies didn't quite fill the house, but it was there, a thread under everything else. It was kind of hard to take Christophe seriously when he smelled like baked goods. I wondered if other djampjir smelled like Hostess Twinkies and sniggered to myself." ...more
Love: *New take on Vamps. They can only make so many vamps a year and those vamps are part of House's/Families. *M1st book in one of my favorite series.

"You’re crude.” I’m crude?” You just offered to make me your whore.” To be the Consort of a Master vampire is an honor, Initiate, not an insult.” It’s an insult to me. I’m not going to be your—anyone’s—sexual outlet. When that . . . happens for me, when I meet him, I want partnership. Love. You don’t trust me enough for the former, and I’m not even sure you’re capable of the latter."
"Well?” “Well, what?” I waved a hand at the room. “Start genuflecting. Let’s see some knee action.” “You’re serious.” I lifted my brows. He responded in kind, but finally nodded his head, then walked between the couches. He dropped to one knee, then held out his hands.
“I’m monumentally sorry for the pain and humiliation that I caused you and your—” “Both knees.” “Pardon?” “I’d prefer to see both knees on the ground. I mean, if you’re going to grovel, be the best groveler you can, right?"
"He's twenty-nine. And what did you think he was going to look like?" She shrugged. "You know-old. Grizzled. Long white beard. Scruffy robes. Loveable, smart, a little absent minded." I bit back a grin. " I said 'sorcerer,' not 'Dumbledore.' So he's hot. It could be worse." ...more

And that's when Anna realized that what the wolf had been asking Bran for was death. Impulsively, Anna stepped away from Charles. She put a knee on the bench she'd been sitting on and reached over the back to close her hand on Asil's wrist, which was lying across the back of the pew. He hissed in shock but didn't pull away. As she held him the scent of wilderness, of sickness, faded. He stared at her, the whites of his eyes showing brightly while his irises narrowed to small bands around his black pupil. Highlights: -Merit and Ethan become a thing!!!!!!!Unfortunatly, it only last for a day. Very sad but I am hoping for more in the next book. -Gabriel the leader of the shifters comes to town to ask the pack to stay or go. Great debate....Merit and Ethan's services are on loan... -Ethan's old flame shows up after Merit and Ethan brake up.Not good for self esteem but all gather around Merit to show their support.
"You undo me, Merit. Wholly and completely. You don't take me at my word. You challenge me at every opportunity. And that means when I'm with you, I am less than the head of this House...and I am more than the head of this House. I am a man." He stroked my cheeks with his thumbs. "In my very, very long life, I need you more than I have ever needed anything."
"He paused, then tapped a finger against the box. “This is a wish,” he said quietly, “that even after four hundred years of existence, a man can be strong enough to accept the gifts he’s given.” “Ethan—,” I began, but he shook his head. “I’m prepared to wait for a positive response.” “That’s going to take a while.” Ethan lifted a single eyebrow, a grin lifting one corner of his mouth. “Sentinel, I am immortal."
"Lindsey patted my arm. “Don’t be embarrassed. It’s about time you two made the beast with two backs.” I had to work to form words. “There are so many things wrong with that statement, I don’t know where to start."...more

positives: * kick-butt main character Kate Daniels returns! She is an excellent mercenary that has puts her skills to use for the Knights. *Curran gets sexier. You start to see a little something building between him and Kate. They both still can't take orders from the other very well. *Great banter between Kate and Curran, many funny quotes. *Derek makes a return in this book as well. Great guy and future leader of the Beasts.
Negatives: * you see a different side of Saiman. I like him in the book but put him here because he got on my sh*t list in this book. So there Saiman! *I will add Red to this section and am glad that he disappeared. Crazy, sad kid.
"You don't cause problems. You cause catastrophes."
"Yes. What is it, guilt, revenge, love, what?” I swallowed. “I live alone.” "And your point is?” "You have the Pack. You’re surrounded by people who would fall over themselves for the pleasure of your company. I have no one. My parents are dead, my entire family is gone. I have no friends. Except Jim, and that’s more of a working relationship than anything else. I have no lover. I can’t even have a pet, because I’m not at the house often enough to keep it from starving. When I come crawling home, bleeding and filthy and exhausted, the house is dark and empty. Nobody keeps the porch light on for me. Nobody hugs me and says, ‘Hey, I’m glad you made it. I’m glad you’re okay. I was worried.’ Nobody cares if I live or die. Nobody makes me coffee, nobody holds me before I go to bed, nobody fixes my medicine when I’m sick. I’m by myself."
"He put the book down. “As you wish.” He rose and walked past me. I lowered my sword, expecting him to pass, but suddenly he stepped in dangerously close. “Welcome home. I’m glad you made it. There is coffee in the kitchen for you.” My mouth gaped open. He inhaled my scent, bent close, about to kiss me… I just stood there like an idiot. Curran smirked and whispered in my ear instead. “Psych.” And just like that, he was out the door and gone. Oh boy."
"How much are you lifting?" "Seven hundred." Alrighty then. I will just stand over here, out of your way, and hope you don't remember to kick my ass. He grinned. "Wanna spot me?" "No thanks. How about I just scream verbal encouragements at you?" I took a deep breath and barked, "No pain, no gain! That pain is just weakness leaving your body! Come on! Push! Push! Make that weight your bitch!" ...more
