It was meant to be the best day of brothers Rafter and Benny's life, this was the day they were both to come into their superhero powers, instead what they get is far from superhero like in any way.
With their dreams shattered of aiding their family in the fight against their arch-enemies the Johnson family, whom also have super powers and are the villains in the town, Rafter and Benny worry about coming face to face with Juanita Johnson a classmate who also got her powers the same time as the boys and now would be able to defeat them both.
But each family is under the same belief that each other are the villains, can they finally put their differences aside to help defeat an even bigger threat?
I don't get the chance to read a whole lot of middle-grade books and when I do I love it when I find an extremely well written one as this one is.
From the way this ended I'm hopeful that this is the first book in a series, I would love to continue on with this story.
For those who like stories with a whole lot of action and adventure definitely pick this up! ...more
I loved that Morel didn't end this book the way that most Y/A books do in the sense that not every story has a happy ending and it just adds more realI loved that Morel didn't end this book the way that most Y/A books do in the sense that not every story has a happy ending and it just adds more realism to the story. This book does touch on serious topics such as depression and suicide but is done in a tasteful manner and it explains a lot of back-story concerning Jane. This book is action packed pretty much from the get go, and you never know what will happen next. It's not that far into the story when the plane crash occurs, just as Jane is about to ingest the pills in the bathroom the plane nosedives and starts it's plummet towards the ground, when she wakes up she finds the plane crashed on a mountaintop in three pieces, everybody is dead except for Paul, a boy who was seated in the seat next to hers. At first their relationship is a bit love/hate and their comments to each other had me laughing to myself. 'What if you fall?" I call down. He looks up and smiles. 'It'll be romantic, Jane. We'll die together, like Romeo and Juliet.' I take a big gulp of air and breathe out. What an ass. 'Jane Solis,' he shouts, still flat on his back, 'you pull like a donkey.' Like I said, what an ass. 'No-one's ever touched them before. I mean nobody I didn't pay to touch them.' 'You employed some male hookers to touch your scars?' It's not long before Jane and Paul start to depend on each other and slowly start to develop feelings for each other, you wish nothing will come to harm for these two and that they make it off the mountain and that they both make it home safely. But with the huge possibility of hypothermia, no food and treacherous conditions in the snow and freezing cold the odds are against them. This book had me on the edge of my seat, and if that wasn't enough it even had me in tears, this book took me on a roller-coaster ride and it was hard at times to put the book down. I loved this book and can't wait to see whats up next for Morel. I give this 4/5....more
I actually gave this book 3.5/5 The story starts off in 2030 most of the world excluding New Zealand And America (which are now called free territories) have been taken over by aliens called Bzadian's. They came claiming peace but instead plotted to take over the world and wipe out all of humanity, Australia is their base of operations in particular Uluru in the Northern Territory. Six soldiers from around the world have been trained to imitate the Bzadians to infiltrate and take them down. The big mystery is what is hidden inside Uluru , the soldier's task is to find out and then destroy it. Then of course their is a traitor in amongst the six soldiers and I have to say I never guessed who it was and I was shocked when it was revealed. But the biggest shock was the ending I never could have guessed at what was inside Uluru it was certainly a big surprise. If you like a lot of action, gun fights, espionage, deceit and shocking reveals this is the book for you.
