"Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music, too. But perhaps it was only an echo."
As the sled slowed to a gentle stop in the lull of snow and music, Jonas finally felt at peace. For a short while, he was content with just resting on a bed of snowflakes with Gabe on his chest. He relished the sensation of knowing he had finished what he set out to do, and admired the delicate beauty of the overhanging evergreen branches laced with snow against the dark silhouette of the night. The wind whispered and whipped through the quiet of the snowfall.
Suddenly, Jonas felt an incredible rush of true emotions, that were sincerely his own. They were not from the memories of forgotten time past, but of his existence, his experiences, and his spirit. Anger, grief, elation, fear, courage, and love, along with countless others he couldn't identify flooded his essence. Jonas cried out in pain while tears of mirth rolled down his cheeks. He couldn't bear the ceaseless onslaught, and yet, at the same time, he wanted to catch the passions so he could hold onto them forever and ever. Beside him, Gabe laughed and cried, feeling for all his modest heart could.
Jonas shut his eyes, wincing while smiling as the flow of emotions gradually slowed. He savored the extraordinary and terrible splendor of it all. He knew that when he opened his eyes, the differences between himself and the young boy who was chosen to be the Reciever all those ages ago would be staggering. The very thought of change sent a chill of fright mixed in with the thrill of anticipation up his spine. Life was truly a gift, and he wasn't going to waste any second of it here. He sighed, letting go of the younger brother of himself, and with Gabe's tiny hand in his own, Jonas opened his eyes to face Elsewhere....more
chapter 1-15 Carter and Sadie are such strange people and I don't think it was the authors intention. all in onmax leu 705 4th quarter process response
chapter 1-15 Carter and Sadie are such strange people and I don't think it was the authors intention. all in one day their father dies, they find out that egyptian mythology is real, that the world is going to blow and that they are both wanted dead and they don't even stop to think about it. honestly I probably wouldn't believe any of that and would at least need some time to think. they just suddenly decide that they need to try and save the world and their father. Its all so crazy.
chapter 15-30 this book seems to be anti sexist. it seems that the younger sister is stronger than the older brother. usually the older male is the one that is stronger and fights and saves the girl, but in this book it seems that sadie is always having to save her older brother like when Carter was turned into a lizard when he tried to confront two bad guys and Sadie was the one who destroyed both the bad guys and saved Carter. Carter is usually being the one that is getting his ass beaten and Sadie is usually the one who is beating up the baddies.
chapter 30-41 it seems that carter and sadie can trust no one except eachother in this adventure. Amos was the one other person they trusted but he turned out to be pocessed by Set and almost kills them. also the other people they meet like Zia are vary suspicious and could be good or bad. this really makes a bond between Carter and Sadie. throughout the story they keep and bringing up that they need eachother....more

I really think that people that are never shown kindnessMax Leu 705 hw reading response reading with lens of kindness/love on Measle and the wrathmonk
I really think that people that are never shown kindness and love are the saddest people ever. in the book Measle never even got a "thank you" when he worked for Basil, but when the people he saved said "thank you" he felt like that was a gift.
today, most people get the kindness they deserve, but the people who don't become very sad people. It's surprising what a small "thank you" can do for someone. it can help anyone feel better about themselves.
a lot of kids don't get kindness because of their family. I see a lot of kids getting screamed at by their parent thats drinking and smoking. I once passed by a father screaming and cursing at his kid for opening the car doorand said that he was going to hit him when they got home. a lot of kids like this end up bad or depressed people. a good childhood is really important to children's future....more

when I was reading this book I really thought about how things can start out as little problems (people in a poor and dirt country with a strange disease that makes them like zombies) and lead to a huge problem like world destruction. no one cared for those people because it wasn't their problem, but when they turned into zombies and started infecting everyone people started to take action. If they had helped the people the whole zombie mess wouldn't have happened, most people are just selfish.
This isn't selfish like "this is my toy!" this is selfishness on a whole nother level. people are dying because of this in the real world. lots of wealthy people look at what they have and say "I want more!" when they have much more than they need and while there are millions of people more important kids with no food, no home, no family and no life. It amazes me that some people have so much while others have none at all. Can't we all just see the right thing to do?...more

“If you kill Darren, you won’t just be slaughtering my son, you’ll be murdering your nephew!” I gasped and let go of Darius. He didn’t move, he just stared at his father with dreaded eyes. Then Alice looked at me and said “I am going to see if I can catch R.V.” Then she ran out. Steve looked at Darius, laughed and said, “You keep him.” Anger started building up in me. I picked my knife up “you’ll never hit me in…” he started but then he realized I wasn’t aiming for him. I brought the knife down hard on to Darius’s skull. I could feel the blade go into soft flesh and then hit the skull. I have done it. I have truly become the monster I was supposed to become. I wanted to care but I couldn’t, I just wanted more. Darius fell and I could feel the eyes of everyone I the room on me. For a minute the room was still, even Steve was stunned. In that minute of silence I thought. I thought about is winning this war really worth it? The world will end either way. Debbie was the first to break the silence with even more crying. I walked over to her with my knife raised but Vancha stepped in the way. He knew what I was thinking. I tried to stab him but he knocked it away. “You don’t have to do this Darren.” I felt enraged, by how he wanted for the war to go on, and how he wanted more and more people to give up their lives to try to stop it when no matter what the world is lost. Then I jabbed my finger into his heart. He tried to block it but my strength was too immense with all that rage. He fell to the floor, dead. I heard Steve yell “Finally Darren, you see how to bring peace to this world.” I nodded, picked up my knife and kept walking. Debbie didn’t run she just kept sobbing and waited to meet her death, and she did. I turned around and looked at Steve. He waved to me and smiled. Then I took my knife and brought myself peace. ...more

when I read this book I think about how appearences can really change how someone thinks about someone, like evanna when darren first meets her he thinks she is a witch because of how she looks but she is actually a very nice person.people all the time worry about how they look, when someone looks at you and classifies you on how you look because thats the only part of you that they will be able to see. if you are ugly then people will probably ignore you because they classify you as stupid or not worth talking to. if you are beautiful then people will try to meet you and respect you more. I think its really dumb though, how someone looks doesn't tell you anyting about them, Its who they are that will tell you something. in a lot of books I've read the main character is someone that no one likes in school or is ugly when they have a great personality. if the book is good you will read on and learn more about this unliked character and probably learn that he/she is a great person but just isn't given a chance to show it by anyone. SO MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO MAKE UNUSUAL FRIENDS AND BE OPEN TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE!!!...more

At first when he just turns into a vampire he thinks evil is when you hurt someone else (doesn't include animals) your evil ex a vampire taking a little blood. at the end of the second book when darren drinks sam's blood he accepts that drinking a small amount of blood isn't evil. it makes me think about how are thoughts on something change as we age and mature. for example wine and beer. most kids, if not all kids don't like wine or beer because its bitter. but every adult I have met has liked beer and wine. sometimes things change the opposite way. young children love to play with toys and watch dora the explorer or diego or spongebob but adults don't like to do that stuff....more
