"Selfish is the heart that thinks first of itself."
I had completely forgotten about this series and that I had to catch up reading it. I was so pleasantly surprised by this book it is my favorite in the series so far! If you haven't heard of the Order of Solace then let me tell you quickly. A group of women decide to offer their lives to bring solace to others. In whatever way it's required. They become Handmaidens for this purpose. Their lives are supposed to be selfless and devoted to others. Most people on the outside see them as whores.
In the previous books we've encountered a handmaiden sent to a patron who has gone off the deep end and they have to turn their lives around. This book was different. We actually get a glimpse of the life of a Handmaiden. It was a refreshing and different twist in the series.
Annalise, such a pretty name (very close to my mom's), discovers that her fiance might be attracted to other things instead of her (mainly boys not girls) and creates a plan to get out of the weddng without major complications by saying she had a vision and that she is to become a Handmaiden. Of course without the true desire to service, when she gets there, a lot of what is required of her seems difficult to understand.
But she adapts well and learns a lot about herself. In this journey she also meets a man. Cassian is a professor at the Order, he used to be a priest and he has had a lot of heartache in his past that for the most part he has not gotten over.
I loved both characters and how they helped each other grow and understand each other. I was waiting for a resolution to their issues and Ms. Hart leaves us waiting until the last possible second. The writing? As always superb! Delicate and beautiful, it flows and transports you to the story. I can't wait to read the next book!...more

This book was just beautiful, the words flowed perfectly, and it was almost as if I was watching a movie! The descriptions, the dialogues, the references to times. I felt totally and completely transported to the world created by Ms. Kleypas. I am in awe of what she can do and I can now say, I'm a FAN!
That being said, my second point to mention before getting into the actual book. I haven't read a true historical romance in YEARS! And this was just the way to get back into it!
The concept of the Wallflowers is centered around 4 young ladies in London who are, well, wallflowers, and they are each in need of a good husband.
This book is centered around Annabelle Peyton. Probably one of the prettiest of the wallflowers, she is a lady of society but her family has fallen down on their luck after the death of her father. They have been struggling for money for a while now, even her mother had to take a lover and be a secret mistress to support them.
Now at 25, and probably her last season to find a husband, she is forced to set her sights on an ok-bachelor, who has title and some money and will probably help her family. But she finds him so dull!
Nothing like Simon Hunt! She's known the butcher's son for a while now, and he has made a fortune for himself, even though he comes from a very common background. He is the only one that can get her blood boiling and, even though she can't believe it, she actually wants him!
Simon Hunt on the other hand has wanted Annabelle since the first time he set his eyes on her and he is determined to have her! Originally thinking that she wouldn't find a husband and he could have her as his mistress, he soon realizes his feelings for the beautiful Annabelle go deeper than lust.
And lets not leave aside how sexy Simon Hunt is. I loved all their stolen moments together, they were entertaining and stimulating. The sparks were flying from page one and didn't stop throughout the story.
I loved every second of this story! You will find yourself among fancy balls, month long parties at lavish country estates, the intrigue and gossip of London's society, and a wonderful set of characters. I just couldn't put this book down! ...more

Lillian Bowman is a strong heroine. At times she can come across as a bit of a bitch, but I loved her! I especially enjoyed perfume and scents storyline. I don't know why but I love to read about old times when there were actually people dedicated to making fragrances instead of the big corporate business.
So Lillian, an american who has come to London to marry someone with a title to along with her family's fortune, walks into a perfume shop and is offered a special Love Spell perfume. Meant to make a man be completely bespelled by her and her charms.
Of course it would be just her luck that the one man who seems to show interest in her when wearing the perfume is the one she can't tolerate.
Lord Westcliff is the most eligible bachelor! He is a business man, he is rich, he IS high society, and for all intents and purposes he should be everything Lillian Bowman would want. But his continuous disdain for her "American ways" and his apparent arrogance makes him the last person she would want to tangle with.
Is it just the perfume that is now making him come to her when he wouldn't bother to be around her before? But the more he seeks her out, the more she realizes that she wants his company!
Their romance was a lot more explosive than the previous book, mainly I think because they are both very strong, and stubborn, characters! They both fight their attraction as they think they could never be happy with each other. But they will soon realize that nobody else would measure!
I absolutely enjoyed the part where Lillian gets drunk in Westcliff's library. The whole thing was hysterical! And where that leads was even better! Westcliff rescuing the Bowman sisters from a disgusting english dinner by making up a strange new butterfly, so cute!
Add in a bit of a twist with Lord Westcliff's best friend, Lord St. Vincent, courting Ms. Bowman as well, as he is in need of a wife with money, and you will find the perfect chemistry match for a great book!
Even though at the end I was SOOOO upset with Lord St. Vincent it made me almost not want to read his book. But I have faith! I'm sure it will be amazing. ...more

This is the first series I read by her and she has truly gotten me back into Historical Romances. There's something about the way this woman writes! It's amazing! If you haven't read her books, do it! You are truly missing out!
I'm sad that the Wallflowers series is over. I will miss the characters and the world I've come to love!
So at the end of Devil in Winter I thought that Daisy would end up with a different guy than where this book was headed, but that's just me. That was her first taste of a thrill.
But as the last Wallflower left to marry, her parents have given up on waiting for an offer from an Englishman and have decided on a business oriented decision, having their youngest daughter Daisy marry one of their top employees basically, Matthew Shift.
Matthew Swift of course can't believe his luck because he's ALWAYS been fascinated with Daisy Bowman. He would savor each opportunity to be near her, to see her. Except with his real background, he never saw himself worthy of her, and he would never put her in such a dangerous position if his past ever catches up with him.
Daisy thought she could never be interested in Matthew Swift based on how she remembered him, but turns out he is so different than the picture she had of him in her mind.
I think my favorite books in this series have been the Bowman sisters. I love their spark, their personalities, their loyalty, the way they want to live life to the fullest even though sometimes circumstances shouldn't let them think that way....more

And each story is completely different, original and manages to bring you into the wonderful world of the Wallflowers.
I'll admit I went into reading this book disliking Sebastian. Not for his womanizing ways, but for what he did at the end of It Happened One Autumn. I loved him throughout that book and then my little fantasy fell. So it took me a little while to warm up to him, even though I thought the story in this book was excellent from page.
The endearing Evangeline Jenner gets some confidence and asks Sebastian to marry her, of course as a convenience marriage. She wants to get married to be free of her family and he wants the money she will inherit from her dying father. She will only agree to have sex with him once to make the marriage official.
They quickly elope so her family can't stop them, and they have a scottish wedding. Upon their return, Evie immediately wants to go see her father at the club he owns, and finds him gravely ill as she suspected. But to her surprise, Sebastian decides to stay and manage the club. She never would've thought of him as the type of man to work, but he obviously has a passion for this and is good at it.
I LOVED watching Sebastian change, or maybe not so much change but realize that the way he thought he was was not enteriely accurate. He does care for people, he is capable of love, he cherishes his friends and respects those who deserve it.
And above all, he understands that he wants no one other than Evangeline with him for the rest of his life. And this takes him by surprise. The eternal man-whore, who thought he could never bed a woman more than once, and had never been with a nice girl, has fallen head over heels for the shy Evie.
And on a quick side note... Cam and Daisy, just RAWR! That kiss he kinda stole from her made my toes curl and I can't wait to read their book! Sometimes a girl just needs a rough gipsy instead of a refined gentleman with spectacles....more
