This is a difficult book to review and even rate. There are things that I loved about it, and things that were, well... boring!
This book picks up kinda where the last one left off. Riley was bitten by both Arcos brothers and she now has to deal with having strigoi tendencies. She is experiencing a sort of "detox" period andis taken by the Dupres to Da Island. She has some times of lucidity and times where she goes crazy and wants to take a bite out of everyone. So up until now I was enjoying the book alright. But this kept going on and on.
First of all, let me pause here for a minute to daydream. Eli is HAWT! He has come to terms with the fact that he is in love with Riley. For the first time in his whole existence. And he has no problem showing her just how much she belongs to him. Tell me what girl can resist him? Of course Riley doesn't and she just has to jump his bones at every opportunity. Which was fine with me ;) As a couple they are great. These are the parts of the book that worked for me. Their chemistry, their interactions, their connection. Loved it.
OK, back to reality. When Riley finally tries to go back to a normal life after she's been reunited with her brother, who only has tendencies as well, and they both been properly trained in their new abilities and the proper way of fighting and killing vampires. After there are a bunch of vampire newlings running around. But then Victorian starts showing up in Riley's head again. And the bitch won't tell Eli!
OK, I'll admit I actually started having a bit of asoft spot for Victorian. He is obsessed, a bit psycho, but he's tender! LOL
Except that's not the only visions/visits Riley has. Someone else is inside of her head. She starts seeing a vampire continuosly raping and killing human females. She has to feel everything that he was feeling, and seeing the terror in the victims faces as if she was there. But she can't do anything about it. It's as if she's trapped in the killers conscience. But how can that be possible? The only other possible candidate for getting in her head is Valerian, and he's dead. Isn't he?
So they are dealing with stopping a monster that's killing humans, finding Victorian, a group of newling vampires that's going rampid around town and surrounding areas. But with all that going on the pace of the book seemed slow to me. I can't quite put my finger on the why.
Onto something else I liked. New character alert: Noah!!! I think he's adorable! Dreads and all! Especially everytime he calls Eli a "Lucky fuck!". Luc is another favorite of mine, I'm glad we get to see plenty of him in this book, and I hope he gets together with Nyx in the last book of the trilogy. They'd make the cutest couple.
I love that this author does the accents for Preacher, Estelle and Garr. Those bits where always so much fun to read, refreshing at times.
However, the ending? Why? What a mess! For a smart, kick ass, usually pretty level-headed girl, Riley made a mistake going at this alone and putting her trust in a certain someone. Eli is going to be majorly pissed!!!! Oh well... I guess we'll just have to wait for the spectacular make up sex then! LOL ...more
How do you like your heroes? Tall, muscled, strong, tortured, tattooed, oh-so-sexy, with golden eyes and . . .dimples! Is that close? Well then, meet Hector Dean. I mean, just take a look at the cover. He is edible!! And to make the cover justice, the man you will meet in the book is a fantasy come to life!
This book backtracks in the storyline to when Noelle and Ava go into the AIR agent training. And really, how can they be expected to concentrate on training when you have Dallas and Hector as your instructors? The connection is instant between Hector and Noelle but there are so many layers to their relationship that need to be peeled back from there. And it’s a lot of fun to see it happen.
Hectors past was very hard, and his present is a major thing to deal with. Although he is human, his arms heat up and can burn through even metal when he gets aroused, angry, or any strong emotion. Great in a fight, not so great around a girl. But he is intense!!! Hot in more ways than one!! I wouldn’t mind going up in flames with him. . . At all. . . He’s worth it!
And then there’s Noelle. She is my favorite heroine in this series. She can be funny, snarky, a bit spoiled. But she hides behind a mask and inside there’s a girl who has never been good enough for anyone, not her family, not her boyfriends. The only constant in her life is her friendship with Ava. Their loyalty to each other is amazing! But now she is getting married. I loved seeing their friendly interactions, her sadness at losing her friend or so she thought. They are hilarious together, they get each other in all their quirkiness.
But Hector sees through Noelle’s act as well. He knows there’s more to her than she lets on. And when Noelle really starts pushing the boundaries of their relationship, well I just love how he gives in to his desires and passions 100% and as much as he can. Even though he fights going further.
We revisit the alien trafficking storyline in this book instead of the Schon queen. She was completely absent here and I just wonder what happened with her. We do get somewhat of an answer to Dallas vision but there is still an open question about it at the end. I think I just heard Dallas saying he is ready to have his book written. And since I’m on the Dallas subject. . . He is so cute, trying to put his "best moves" on Noelle. It was hysterical. I gotta admit I’m jealous though!! I want to be Dallas' pretzel!
And just as we had best friends forever Ava and Noelle, we also see a small glimpse of my favorite bromance: Devyn and Dallas. I’m soooo on Brides side when Devyn mentioned that she wanted them to kiss like Noelle and Ava had done. *purrrrr*
Pretty much the whole cast shows up in this book. We also see Jaxon and Mia as well as McKell obviously. Together, AIR solves a case of missing girls aaaaaaannnnmnnd in the process a blast from the past character reappears! No, can’t tell you who it is. You’ll have to read to find out. But I’m sure this will play a big role in future books.
So what are you waiting for? Pick up this book, or if you haven’t yet, start this series!! You know you want to see Hector burn holes in brick walls, burn through gloves and burn down a house!!!!
Favorite Quotes: Speaking of funny looks. "Did you see the way that Hector guy eyed me up and down, as if I belonged in a scientific studies magazine for newly discovered fungus?" "Yeah, but did you see his muscles?" "How could I miss them? His I've-tasted-human-heart-and-liked-it black T-shirt was strained to the point of lunacy." "Vocab lesson time. You mean lewdness. As in, indecent."
"Graduate Camp Hellhole - check," Noelle muttered. "Hired by AIR - check. Complete my first mission successfully - check. Kick Hector's ass at a foot race - check. Lose my best friend - check, check, fucking check, and scribble and crumble the notepad and slam it into the trash."
The T-shirt was a gift from Ava and read Good Girls Need Spankings Too.
"Hey!" Dallas frowned at him. "When I tell you something's a secret, and you tell me that secret is locked in the vault, you aren't supposed to blab about it." Devyn blew him a kiss. "How was I supposed to know Hector would have the key to my vault."...more

I remember the days when I used to find Betsy Taylor (yes! her name is Elizabeth Taylor) extremely entertaining! She was cute in her dumb ways, always thinking about shoes, and sales, and somehow stumbling through being the Vampire Queen because, lets face it, she's never had the skills. But after 8 books and so many events and battles, how can she possibly still be the same Betsy Taylor, if not worst, than during book 1!
Betsy made some good decisions in this book along with some plain terrible ones (how could you put SHOES before the life of your friend, seriously???). The different realities and time travels confused me a bit at the beginning, or maybe it was just Betsy's head?
And then there's Sinclair. What happened to the sexy, alpha Vampire King?!?!?!!? It was as if someone cut off his balls in this book. He kept waiting for Betsy to make decisions and lead them, instead of taking charge of some situations.
The side characters are still funny, Laura, the devil, Jessica, Mark... they all still kept some of the humor in the book.
All I can say is I've enjoyed the series a lot, it has provided many laughs, but the time has come for me to just give up. ...more
I am both highly disappointed and happy about this book. As far as storylines go, I was glad to see a little bit of a different feel to the chasing skips we get with every Plum book lately. And there are three people trying to kill Stephanie. The skips are crazy as usual, there's an old guy who thinks is a vampire and sleeps in a coffin at the funeral home, the sleezy guy who always seems to have a boner. The humor and inventiveness was back!
Stephanie is still just as clueless as to what to do. The bail bonds office was burned down previously so they are working out of Mooner's bus. Mooner! He was truly hilarious! I never get tired of reading his lines. And then Vinny, the slimeball, decides to advertise by making flyers with a picture of Lula and Stephanie, dressed provocatively, and of course digitally altering Stephanie's breasts. And if that's not embarrassing enough, the same picture is blown up and painted on the outside of the bus! Can't miss them now!
And Lula. I love Lula. She's always wearing crazy outfits, tasering people, and just plain getting in trouble when there shouldn't have been any!
Now onto my complains. I drool over Ranger as the next girl does. However, Stephanie just PISSED ME OFF. She is sorta dating Morelli. They agree to an "open" relationship. And then Stephanie thinks Morelli grandma puts a spell on her that makes her horny all the time, and the first thing she does.... JUMPS RANGERS BONES! Now... normally I would be all for jumping his bones, but not when she's dating Morelli, AND if that's not bad enough, the day after shagging Ranger she has sex with Morelli. And then she goes on a job with Ranger and wants to have sex with him again in his Porsche. What The Hell? When did Stephanie turned into a whore who doesn't care about anyone's feelings?
Morelli doesn't find out, but he's been on excellent behavior. And Ranger, why would he accept this behavior and just be content with getting Stephanie's scraps? They both deserve better than her at this point.
Then there's the Plum family. They are a train wreck, a circus, a comedy show! Stephanie's mom is trying to fix her up with some other guy who apparently went to school with her. He's turned out to be a bit of a loser, but her mom has given up hope on Morelli, so she's trying for another guy. Thank God Stephanie is not interested in bachelor #3. Her mom goes back to ironing.
I suspected who the killer was early on, so I was not surprised at all when we find out at the end. I was not expecting the motives. This guy was nutso!
I really wanted to see a resolution with Stephanie's love life in this book. I've come this far in the series, so I'll def read the next one, because at this point, I have to know what happens on principle. But I don't agree with the authors perspective of dragging out the love triangle until the last book of the series. Believe me, you wouldn't lose readers by letting Stephanie make a choice. You might gain back some you lost. We all still enjoy the humor in these books, we just want Stephanie to mature and stop acting the way she has been and not drag around two wonderful guys. If she has such a problem deciding, I'll take one off her hands *cough* Ranger *cough* ...more

For all of you whSuch a difficult book for me to rate and review. I finished it about a day and a half ago and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.
For all of you who are wondering if this book is better than the past two, which I thought were pretty bad, the last one especially, then please know that Dead Reckoning isn't bad, there's a lot going on, even though at the beginning it was a bit slow, but the story is interesting. It's much better than the last two, but at this point I don't think we'll ever get the same as we did at the beginning of the series. Too much has happened.
I'm a little biased about this series as it was one of the first series I started reading and I've always loved it. It's always been an automatic buy as soon as it comes out, and to be honest, it will continue to be.
What I liked * Pam. She's at the top of my list of characters I loved in this book. She deserves to be happy! She keeps going through tough times, and Eric just keeps dragging her along with all his decisions. * Eric. For a while in the book it shows us an Eric that cares for Sookie, even loves her, and is willing to forgive anything. Of course it helps that he likes monkey sex on swings. * Bad guys from the past. We're still dealing with Victor, but Sookie has a little side surprise of someone else who's after her. * We finally find out how Sookie became a telepath, as well as more of the fairy background story. * Hunter. He's just adorable and needs to be loved and understood. * Bubba!. I was so excited to see that Bubba was back, even though it was for such a short time.
What I didn't like * Alcide. That's all I'll say about this. He's at the top of my WTH moments in this book. He just pissed me off. And there was no need (whatsoever) to go there. * Amelia. This actually upsets me, because she's always been a character that I like throughout the series, and I just wanted to punch her face. * Sookie. Yes, Sookie annoyed me most of the time in this book. Why are you having such an issue with dealing with all these supernatural things after everything you've been through? Like you could ever go back to just being a normal human, working your normal job and hanging out with normal friends? YOU'RE A TELEPATH AND YOU'RE PART FAIRY! And you have 2 fairies living with you. She just kept whining throughout this book. And then she goes and does something on a whim... * Eric. Yes, he's on both lists. So what we find out towards the end, and how he's dealing, or better yet, not dealing with, just pisses me off. In a way, I can't expect different, he is staying true to character.
Who I still hate There's only one here! Bill. I don't care how you want to wrap him up and present him as a suitable HEA for Sookie I just don't want to see his face, and he's always the opportunistic vampire to come "when needed".
The relationship between Sam and Sookie is also strenghtened in this book, and that's ok for me, as I've always seen them as good friends.
This book ties a lot of lose ends, but at the same time presents so many new ones that I really don't know where it can all go from here, I think I have more questions than when I started it. And quite honestly, I don't think the ending to this big mess will be where I wanted the story to go. As I said before, this is still an automatic buy for me....more

This was a very entertaining story in the LOTU world. Even though we get a glimpse of Reyes and Danika at the beginning, it is only to give us an insight into what is happening in Cronus's side.
Atlas was held captive many years ago, and had tried to seduce all female guards to get someone to release him. Except even then, one of them had been special to him. It wasn't the prettiest girl of the bunch, no, it was Nike, with all her strength, and the way she made him feel. Except before she went against her people and released him, she found out about his other relations with other guards, and thought she was just a means to an end to him. Of course she should've known better. Why would a beautiful man like him want a woman like her. And to punish him, she carved her name on his back.
Now, years later, the positions are reversed, Nike is the slave in the cell, and Atlas wants revenged, he wants to see his name on her skin, but he didn't expect to feel possessive of her, he didn't expect that he would want no other man near her, touching her. She was his. But what future could they have together?
Sienna and Cronus make a small appearance as well, and the Lords are briefly mentioned, but other than that, this novel has nothing to do with the Lords and their continuing storyline. However it was a very entertaining short read....more

This novella was perfect to re-ignite my interest in this series. I started it a while back and I kind of forgot about it, because, well...the neverending amount of books being added to my TBR. And then I got this novella and remembered what I originally found appealing about this series. The magic, of course! In a sort of adult Harry-Potter-ish way, our heroes have magic powers, they can conjure up spells, use magic wands and can even teleport. Of course most of them are looking for the one true mate.
But not the Wolvesey brothers. Ronan and Raiden believe that their family has been cursed and that if they mate with a female, she is destined to die and they will live forever alone and with the agony of losing a mate. So they pretty much go around "shagging" women.
But then he met Kari, a human. And even though he can't scent her as his mate his attraction to her is more powerful and the fever for her burns deeper than he can fight.
I loved the fact that he's not part of the Doomsday Brethren yet. He's just a regular guy as much as any 80 year old looking like a 28 year old can be, trying to save the woman he loves from impending death by not binding her to him. And Kari was perfect for him, caring, understanding and willing to put herself out there and only fight him when he deserved it.
But my favorite part? The glimpses of Shock and Bram. Ohhh I love those two. Bram is funny and smart and perceptive and charismatic and did I mention hot? And Shock is dark, sexy, brooding and....shady, a total badass. I can't help but be scared of him but he makes my heart beat fast.
The Brethren adds a few members to their ranks, not only Ronan and Raiden but also Tynan. I can't wait to see how the war against Mathias will play now!...more
