I am at a loss after reading this book as to how I even feel about it. Save Riley by Yolanda Olson is very dark and deals with not only an uncomfortable, but twisted and abusive, relationship. I think if you are a person that enjoys reading a book that puts you in the mind of a psycho then you would really enjoy this book. The book is well-written and the characters are well-developed (hence the 3 star rating), but the story itself is not for me.
When Riley meets a handsome stranger at the book store she works for she finds him a bit odd, but intriguing. When she wakes up to a call from him on her cell she should be afraid considering she didn't give him her number. Instead it intrigues her even more. So much so that when she gets a call stating her grandmother passed away unexpectedly the first person she turns to is Jaxton, a man she hardly knows, but can't quit thinking about.
Jaxton is handsome, intelligent, and well-spoken. He's also insane! He sees Riley and decides that he wants her, so he takes her. After he has her secured in his home away from everything she knows and everyone that she loves he begins the process of breaking her. During this disturbingly erotic and twisted process he succeeds in not only breaking Riley, but himself even more than he already was.
This book will stay with me for a long time. I don't read psychotic thrillers. I don't even read mysteries, for the love of Pete. This book completely sneaked up on me. I saw that it was dark, but this book is even more twisted than I imagined and it's touted as a romance. Abduction and abuse does not a romance make I don't care how you spin it. Kudos to Ms. Olson for being able to get in the mind of this type of person, though. This disturbing story is scarily realistic.
WARNING: This book contains very dark, abusive situations (sexual, physical, psychological, and mental) and should NOT be read by anyone that is sensitive to any kind of deviance.(less)

Oh, Wow! Oh, Wow! Oh, Wow! You have to read this book! Merciless Ride is the third book of The Hellions series by the master of MC hotties Chelsea Camaron and the best by far!
Tessie Harlow has been Rex's booty call for far too long. Rex was her girl crush, then college hook-up and now a convenient piece whenever he's at the bar that Tessie bartends at. She is so over that and has made it clear that she is no longer one of his many, many chicks that are just waiting for him to crook his finger. Life is hard enough for her right now. She's a single mom just trying to make ends meet and caring for a disabled mom. Not to mention the safety that she always felt bartending at the popular MC hangout has now been shattered.
Andy "Shooter" Jenkins is a member of the Hellions Motorcycle Club. He's definitely badass, but has a laid back way about him that stole my heart from the very beginning. When he walks into the bar to find Tessie being assaulted by a member of the Desert Ghosts Motorcycle Club he loses his mind. Not only does he stop the assault with brutal efficiency, but he cares for Tessie in every way that she needs.
"I've been there, Tessie," Shooter's voice whispers in my ear, "where the silence is deafening. Where everything is so dark on the inside, the light of day won't break through as you go through the motions. When the darkness falls and your mind takes your body back to the place where it falls apart."
I love Shooter in all his laid back hotness. And I love Tessie! She's a self-sufficient, hard working mother that will do anything for her kid which makes her all kinds of badass in her right. She hid some really important things, but never maliciously or selfishly. She felt she was doing the right thing. Shooter was perfect in every way. He is strong enough to make a girl feel safe, yet he's intuitive, thoughtful, loyal, honorable and gentle when needed to be.
Chelsea Camaron, you sure can write hot badass biker books. I definitely put you up there as one of the greats!

Riding Hard is the 15th book of the Sons of Chance series by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I discovered this series about 10 books in, so I can say firsthand that you can pick up these books at anytime and not feel like you've missed a thing. Even better you can read them out of order and have the same result. I really enjoy the Sons of Chance series. It's a nice, smooth read that just leaves you feeling good when you're done.
Drake Brewster is punishing himself. That's really all that can be said about his choosing to stay in the small town that has made it clear that he's not welcome. He's the hated ex-friend of one of the beloved sons of the Last Chance Ranch. He came back to Last Chance Ranch to beg forgiveness, try to earn back Regan's friendship, and maybe just learn a little about himself and what he really needs in life to be the man he wants to be. Regan has every right to hate him after walking in on Drake and Regan's then fiance' on Christmas eve, but he doesn't anymore. Regan has forgiven him even if none of the others in this town has. Drake hasn't had a woman since he and Jeannette tried to make a go of it, but quickly found out that their one night was more pent up issues and alcohol based than a mutual attraction. It's been good for him staying away from women. He's working on himself, but their is one little bartender that he can't quit thinking about. Too bad she has made it clear that she is team Regan all the way and thinks of him as the scum of the earth.
If there is anything in this world that Tracy Gibbons hates more than a cheater she hasn't found it, yet. After all, she herself is a product of a cheating husband and her mom has drilled it into her her whole life to learn from her mama's mistakes. This makes it particularly annoying when her body hums every time Drake is anywhere near her. And now that she is babysitting the horses at the sanctuary and Drake has come to her rescue to help with a pregnant horse he's in her personal space a lot.
My heart broke for Regan. What he did was wrong, no doubt about it, but you have to admire a man that is willing to admit he did wrong, ask for forgiveness and put himself out there for all to judge. He never once tried to place blame or defend himself. Tracy was strong and although slow to come around when she does she is all in and I really like that in a character. Back and forth, wishy-washy drama is not for me. I so enjoy Vicki's characters and will keep coming back for more.

Riding High is the 14th book of the Sons of Chance series by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I didn't discover this series until around book 10, so I can tell you for absolute confidence that any of these books can be read alone and you will never know the difference. For anyone that's read Vickie Lewis Thompson you already know that her characters and her stories are just sweet, easy reads. I swear every time I pick up one of her books it's like coming home.
Regan O'Connelli walked in on his best friend/business partner and his fiance' on Christmas eve and they weren't wrapping gifts. As a well-known and talented large animal vet he knew he could find good work anywhere and that's exactly what he did. He walked out and didn't look back. His brother in law could use some help with his practice in Wyoming, so that's exactly where Regan went. When called to help out at a local animal sanctuary he was happy to take it, but he had no idea the surprises that were in store for him when he got there. Animals were running wild and free. The barns were painted many colors of the rainbow and the woman that ran the sanctuary took his breath away. But, he could tell right away that she is from the same free spirit mold that his parents were from and he has no intentions of hooking up with anyone that will just lose interest and move on a whim.
Lily King fell in love with the horse sanctuary as soon as she saw it. So, she did what she always does she jumped at the chance to be it's new owner without stopping to consider all of the angles and issues that could arise. She has an above average IQ and thanks to a video game she designed she has plenty of money in reserve, but money isn't the issue. The animals are taking over and she just can't say no when new ones are dropped off at an alarming rate. When Regan shows up and starts pointing out the changes that she needs to make right away just to keep anyone, including the animals, from getting hurt she knows she needs his help. It sure doesn't hurt that Regan is sexy, smart, and is a take charge man. Now, if she can just get him to let go of his pain and truly open up she knows the sparks will fly.
Regan was so sweet and I loved how he was with Lily. After all, Lily reminded him of everything he hated about growing up with hippy parents. Yet, he gave things a chance and got to know Lily as a person and then quickly accepted her for who she was. I love when the author doesn't doesn't dig to create drama where no drama is needed. I highly recommend Riding High to anyone that just wants to sit in front of a fire on a chilly night and enjoy a heartwarming story that will make you chuckle a lot.

I was offered Snow Angels as an advanced copy and jumped on it being a huge Sabrina York fan and all. This book is the final book of the Calendar Men series. I admit I haven't read the previous books of this clever series by the authors of Decadent Publishing, but at the chance that they are half as good as Snow Angels I will be definitely going back to check them out.
Wade Masters is drowning in guilt. He survived the explosion that killed his girlfriend and another soldier. Is the guilt misplaced? Yes, but he wouldn't convince himself of that if he could. He feels he has no right to be happy. He even agreed to pose in a calendar for wounded warriors as a part of his penance. He had no idea how that was going to affect his life. Women have been coming out of the woodwork since the calendar hit the shelves. That's why he's hiding in his sister's secluded cabin. Surely the hordes of women couldn't find him in the middle of nowhere. At least that's what he thought until he came out of the shower to find his dog growling at a frightened woman standing at the door.
Lyssa was thankful that Val offered the use of her cabin. She needed the refuge to finally deal with her grief and to relax. As a sensitive it's hard to get close to people, so losing Jax was doubly hard. Lately, the most erotic part of her day has been staring at Mr. December in the wounded warriors calendar. The fact that Mr. December was also the brother of her very good friend was a bit awkward, but it's not like she shared her fantasies with Val, so her secrets were safe and her fantasies innocent. At least she thought so before she found herself stranded in the cabin with the Wade. Leave it up to Val to send them both to the cabin at the same time without telling either person.
For those of you that know and love Sabrina York, like I do, you come to expect a certain amount of sarcastic wit from her characters. Wade and Alyssa have great dialogue that often runs very deep, so it's a bit different than the norm, but oh so good. Don't worry, we still get the emotional relief of a breezy comment, snarky tidbit, and laugh out loud sentence or two, often provided by the voices that speak to Lyssa.
The attraction between Wade and Lyssa is palpable. You are rooting for them right from the very beginning even while hurting for them as they are dealing with the pain that never seems to leave them and finding ways to let the past go.
I don't know how Ms. York does it. With every Sabrina York story I read I swear it's my favorite and it is. Until I start the next one. I am leaving you with this. This is my favorite Sabrina story, thus far.

Definitely one of my favorites! Taken With You is the 8th book in the Kowalski Family series by Shannon Stacey. If you haven't had the good fortune to read this series you need to start now. This book can be read alone, any of the books can be read alone in this series. But, I definitely recommend reading all of them if for no other reason than they are all so good and you won't be sorry.
Hailey Genest is the small town librarian in Whitford, Maine. She may be small town, but she has lofty standards or at least by Whitford's standards she does. She wants a guy that likes to dress up and will take her to the city for fancy meals, dancing, plays, anything other than the local diner or worse an outdoor activity. The selection in her small town doesn't offer many choices of that variety, yet she refuses to leave her library and move to the city. She'll just satisfy herself with her girls night out with her one other single friend. Even if their last adventure did land them lost in the woods and escorted out by a hairy, smelly mountain man.
Matt Barnett loves his job as a game warden. He really thinks he's going to like his new position in the picturesque little town of Whitford. Now, if only he could find a woman that accepts his strange hours and loves the outdoors as much as he does. His new neighbor shows a lot of potential, but she's made it clear to him that she is not interested. Sad because she has really caught his attention.
I loved Matt and felt so bad for him. All he wants is to be loved for himself. He has a lot of love to give in return. Hailey just needed to let go of her preconceived standard and get to know the person within. Once she did that the sparks flew. I love this couple! They are one of my favorites.

In Love a Little Sideways, the 7th book of the Kowalski Family series, by Shannon Stacey we finally get the only girl sibling of the super hot and oh-so-fun Kowalski family. While Liz's story wasn't my favorite of the series it certainly held it's own and had a lot of really good, stand-out parts.
Liz Kowalski left the family lodge years before just as all but one of her brothers had done. Lately, it's all been getting to her. She is missing her home and she feels like she hasn't achieved even half of what her brothers have. None of this bothered her until she came home for the wedding. She spent a lot of time with her brothers and caught up on a lot of family gossip. She even had a quickie with her brother's best friend. Maybe not her finest moment, but it was good and she needed it so bad. It shouldn't have been awkward since she lived halfway across the country. But, now she's decided to move home and she'll see Drew on a regular basis.
Drew Miller is just getting over his divorce. He loved his wife and always thought they were on the same page. Came to find out that she didn't want a family and that's all he's ever wanted. He has every intention of doing better in the future. No more frivolous relationships. He wants a family and will focus on a woman wanting the same thing. Yet, that one encounter with Liz has haunted him. But, Liz is all wrong for him. For one, she is the sister of his best friend and he knows Mitch would not take kindly to Drew hooking up with his baby sister. Two, Liz's life is a mess right now. She doesn't know if she wants to settle where she is or move on. It's certainly no time for her to be thinking of a family. But, damn if he doesn't want her and is finding her too hard to resist.
I love that Liz is able to reinvent herself. She's a strong woman and is just learning that. Drew was all kinds of lovable. My heart broke for him so many times. He so often felt like he had to choose between his wants for the not-so-distant future and what he wants right now and maybe forever. Another great read, Ms. Stacey!

This series is just getting better and better. All He Ever Dreamed is the 6th book of the Kowalski Family series by Shannon Stacey. I don't know how she does it. Each book is connected to the one before, but is definitely able to be read alone. But, if you do read this series in order you'll love that even though they are connected and compliment one another each book is fresh and doesn't have that cookie-cutter feeling of you've read one you've read them all.
Josh Kowalski is tired of having his life planned out for him. When their father died it seemed that all of the siblings just assumed Josh would be the one to take over the running of the family lodge. Everything came to a head when Josh broke his leg and one of his brother's came to help out. What he found was a very bitter and angry Josh that was barely staying afloat financially and emotionally. Since then things have gotten better. The siblings have stepped up and made a plan to get the Northern Star Lodge viable again and then sell it, so Josh could have his chance to do what he wants. And now that the time has come he's questioning everything that he's always thought he wanted starting with his best friend Katie Davis.
Katie was raised with the Kowalski kids. Her mom has been the housekeeper of the Northern Star Lodge since they were all young children. Once Mrs. Kowalski passed away Katie's mom stepped in and helped raise the kids. Katie loves them all, but has been in love with Josh for as long as she can remember. It seems that everyone has seen it, but Josh and now that's all changing. Just her luck Josh finally sees her as a woman instead of his buddy at the same time he's planning on leaving their little town and make a life elsewhere. There's a lot of things she would do for Josh, but leave her father's barbershop and her mom is not one of them.
Josh and Katie are so fun! I love a couple that has such a close friendship, especially one like Katie and Josh had. You could feel the bond as you turned each page. In this book, we also get to learn a little more of Max, the mysterious guy in town that keeps everyone guessing. I can not wait for Max's story and to delve into his character even more.

I love Shannon Stacey. It's been far too long since I've read her and the Kowalski Family series. When I opened All He Ever Desired (book #5 of the Kowalski Family) it was like coming home. With that being said, as much as I liked the first 4 books of the series it's nothing compared to how much I liked this book.
Ryan Kowalski took a leap of faith as a young man and asked the pregnant wife of his best friend to run away with him. He cared for her, but more importantly he knew his friend wasn't a good husband and probably never would be to Lauren, so he asked and was shot down. He left his small town after that and returned as little as possible. He owned his own business and was pretty successful, so that kept him busy and away, but if he's being honest he couldn't face her on regular basis. All has changed. It's been well over a decade and he's needed back at the lodge owned by he and his siblings. Northern Star Lodge has some renovations that need done and that's Ryan's niche. He just has to get things done as quickly as possible and get out of there.
Lauren Carpenter's life hasn't turned out quite as she hoped. Her marriage failed and her son is in his moody teenage phase. He's a good kid for the most part, but lately he's been acting out more and more. When he does the unthinkable and vandalizes the Northern Star Lodge she's appalled and devastated. Not only is it going to be a huge hit to her budget, a budget that's already way too stretched, but of all things he had to get caught by none other than Ryan Kowalski. The same Ryan Kowalski that she hasn't been able to get out of her mind after all these years.
I love Ryan and what a stand-up guy he is. He felt bad for what he did to his friend, but he was trying to do the right thing for Lauren and her son. But, when confronted by Lauren's ex-husband he owned up to what he did. And I loved how he treated Lauren's son. He made him responsible for the things he did without belittling him. Lauren is all kinds of great! She's a good mom and a hard worker doing what she could to get through life and raise her son well. I can't imagine a better fit for either of these characters other than each other.

To Russia With Love is the second book of the Countermeasure series. I love this series and loved Countermeasure (book #1). I honestly didn't think it was possible, but I loved To Russia With Love even more. I could not get enough of the amazing characters that make up the cast of this book. Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey do things a little differently and I am a huge fan of their methods. First they offer the Bytes of Life companions that give you just a little more insight and bring you that much closer to the characters. Then, they give you two great romances and a mystery within a mystery all in this fantastic second installment.
In this book, Cassandra and Trevor are married and moved from the US to Ireland, so that they can better investigate the real reason behind the disappearance of Trevor's parents a few years before. The authorities have closed the case and ruled his parents dead even though no bodies have been recovered. Being able to listen into one's private conversations tend to come in handy. Trevor overhears a conversation stating that they have a paper written by his father. In an attempt to buy this paper Trevor is given a different task. If he can recover the highly sensitive information that was stolen from this man's company he will turn over the papers.
This missing information, if decrypted by the wrong people, could be really bad for the entire world. As luck would have it the Russian mafia has the information and they just need the right geek to figure it out for them. I loved that this storyline completely took our characters out of their comfort zones. Trevor was the one on the front lines just trying to survive, so he can get back to the woman he loves and poor Cassie was relocated to the role of behind the scenes support running data and praying for Trevor's safety. She still had her moments where she got to show off her super badass ex-CIA self, though.
Meanwhile, back in Ireland Jessica is settling in as much as she can. When Cassie offered her a position working for them Jessica jumped on it. She missed her friend terribly, but if she is being completely honest Stephan played a big part in her decision to move, as well. They had one hot kiss the night of Trevor and Cassie's wedding, yet Jessica hasn't been able to think of anything else.
Stephan has no intentions of ever settling down or even staying in a relationship too long. This rule is set in stone even if Jessica is now living in Ireland and he can't quit thinking about the way she made him feel after just one kiss. The attraction is there, but Stephan knows she is too young and deserves things that he can never give her.
I love Stephan! The pain he has tried to bury has dictated the way he looks at life and relationships. Yet, it's never made him bitter or unkind to women even if it has made him hold a huge part of himself back. I love how Jessica knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it. I can't think of any couple that deserve a happily ever after more than these two.
I highly recommend To Russia With Love and all of the books in this series to anyone that enjoys romance and intrigue. I can not wait to read more and to get that much closer to finding out what happened to Trevor's parents.

For those of you that have read Countermeasure by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey you have to read this book. I can not tell you how many books that I've finished and just wished I had a little more of what happens next. Ecstasy by the Sea is that book. The Bytes of Life series could be read independently of the Countermeasure series, but I would advise reading them as companions.
In Ecstasy by the Sea we get a peek at Trevor and Cassandra's wedding and their move to Ireland. I loved the descriptions of how Bob is stepping up to be the dad that he should have always been. Trevor is so sweet and works so hard to surprise Cassie with an unexpected honeymoon. Their love comes across even more in this short story and the scenes are a ton hotter.
I can not wait to read more on this couple and the characters that make up the Countermeasures series.

Passion at Dawn is yet another peek into the life of Cassandra and Trevor. I am loving the Bytes of Life companion books to the Countermeasure series. Countermeasure, Countermeasure #1 was so good and honestly I didn't see the point of the Bytes of Life companions, but I thought what the heck I'll give them a read. I am so glad I did! The idea of getting a peek into the daily life of this couple after the first book ended is brilliant. In Ecstasy at Dawn, Bytes of Life #2 we get the honeymoon. In Cuffed at Midnight, Bytes of Life #3 we get a peek into Trevor's first birthday being in a relationship with Cassandra and how they celebrate it. Now, in Passion at Dawn, Bytes of Life #4, is the real life stuff that happens in a new marriage. The insecurities, the doubts, the fears, the obsessive love that one has for their new spouse. These companion books bring you so much closer to the characters and make you feel like you really know them.
Passion at Dawn was a combination of heartbreaking and sizzling. The sparks between this couple are off the charts. And like any newlyweds they explore these sparks as thoroughly and as often as possible. Can I tell you that it sends shivers down my spine every time Trevor says "Cassie girl" in his super sexy Irish brogue. Trevor broke my heart with his insecurities. Don't get me wrong, I get it! Nathan has made sure that Trevor isn't confident in his marriage, but to see this amazingly sexy, confident man drowning in his fear brought tears to my eyes. Cassie gave Trevor no reasons to worry, other than the fact that she refuses to stop talking to her old friend Nathan. I get that she has no feelings for him and she is doing nothing wrong, but Nathan is so mean and obvious about trying to tear them apart I really wanted to hear her tell him off.
Now, I'm off to read To Russia With Love, Countermeasure #2. I can't wait to read more from this amazing cast of characters.
