Let the gushing begin. This book is absolutely fantastic! Saved By His Submissive is the first book of The WILD Boys of Special Forces series and my first book ever by Angel Payne. I can tell you now it will not be my last. I hadn't even finished reading this one when I was looking and praying that book 2 was already out. It's out in digital, but not audio. Now, I'm stuck with the choice of being patient for the audio or reading it now and adding to my already ridiculous load. I loved the audio and feel that Michael OShea did a fantastic job, but I don't think patience will win out on this one. I need to read more from this author.
It's not often that a book that is so erotic it makes your e-reader sizzle is heavy on story and emotion as well. But, this book has it all! I found myself crying, laughing, angry and panting. We get tons of background on the characters which makes it almost impossible to not form a bond and feel right along with them. The story is well-developed and covers some pretty tough subjects honestly for lack of a better word. There is a couple of places where the author could have soft-balled the scenes, but I feel like she went with what would really have to be done in that situation to get everyone out safely. I appreciate it when an author doesn't fluff something up just for the sake of what's easier.
I'll start with Garrett. I loved him and I wanted to smack him a few times. The book starts with Garrett having a very erotic dream involving his wife only to find out when he wakes up that his wife has been dead for a little over a year. Cue the waterworks! As a soldier in the Special Forces duty calls and in this case it calls him to the jungles of Thailand to help free a group of women that are being held captive. Little does he know that this mission is going to change his life forever. The wife he thought to be kidnapped and killed is one of the captured women and he finally has his world back. This mission, the stress of the last year and everything else has stirred up needs that Garrett has buried and fought for years. And now Garrett is left more confused and frustrated than he's ever been.
Sage Weston has been through hell and has lived to tell about it. Now, she's back in her husband's arms. Things aren't like they should be, however. The night she was rescued Garrett was a bit rougher and edgier than he was before and she liked it. A Lot! But, once his senses returned and he realized what he was doing he got away from her as quickly as possible and is now keeping his distance. Sage knows that the last year has been as hard on Garrett as it has been on her, but she can't help him if he won't let her. She has to find a way to convince Garrett that she wants to explore the edgier lifestyle that he's given her glimpses of and show him that it's not a bad thing for him to want it, as well.
Garrett is a very reluctant Dom for most of the book, but he's a natural and drawn to it. It broke my heart that he had such huge issues and guilt with his own needs, especially when he had so much support from his circle. I loved Sage and her strength. She never felt sorry for herself and said "Buck up buddy. Look at what I've been through. Quit making this about you". She understood that Garrett's issues ran deeper than her abduction and she made her marriage and Garrett priority. The secondary characters were just as enjoyable and as well-written. I can not wait to read Zeke's story. He has my heart already and I haven't even gotten to know him.
