I freaking loved this book! It's going to kill me to wait for the next book. I've been a fan of Julie Ann Walker since the Black Knights, Inc. series. No one can write sexy, alpha, bad*ss hotties like Julie Ann. Hell or High Water, the first book of the Deep Six series, is no different. You'll get your fill of hot, protective man, witty banter between long-time friends, and an adventure to keep you on the edge of your seats.
Olivia Mortier has had to do a lot of really hard things in the line of duty. One of the hardest was letting go of the one man who ever captured her heart. A man that lost his friend due to a mission went bad. A mission that Olivia blames herself for going bad. Now, Olivia is in another fix and knows only one other group of men that can truly help her and that's the team that she worked with headed up by the man that she can't forget. They may have left their service to the country, but she knows they are her only hope if she can just convince them to help.
Leo Anderson has one wish and that is to find the sunken ship that his father spent his whole life trying to find. Since they are no longer in service Leo and his men now have a new goal. Now, if he could just find a way to forget about the woman that haunts his dreams and fantasies.
I loved this couple! Olivia was a strong character that had no problem showing her vulnerable side when warranted. I felt bad for her that she carried so much guilt. She was so quick to take responsibility and own up to that even when she knew it could make her lose all that she had. Leo was all that a man should be. I loved that he didn't punish Olivia unnecessarily or blame her for things she really had no control over. And the banter between these brothers of circumstance and choice was so much fun! I can't wait to read more.
Bottom Line: Great first book of a series that is sure to make you a Julie Ann Walker fan for life. The only downside is having to wait for the next release.

Total Surrender ends the Sin Brothers series with a bang. This 4th and final book has it all. The characters are all kinds of bad*ss and likable, the romance is hot and sweet, and the story is fast paced, exciting and will grab your attention from the very start. I can't imagine a better way to wrap this series up. All of the questions are answered and we get even more than we expected.
Jory may be the baby brother, but he's all man that's for sure. Holy Hannah! Color me surprised that he turned out to be the sexiest of all the Dean brothers. His focus and intense desire to save his brothers at all cost just made him all that much more appealing.
Piper was so smart and perfectly geeky. I loved how even though she had just met her dad and wanted his approval she made up her own mind. When she met Jory she instantly felt the attraction which disturbed her since as far as she knew he was a criminal of the worst kind, but in the end she followed her gut and it was explosive. Seriously, when this couple comes together hold onto your Kindle.
I'm sad to see this series go, but I can't imagine a better ending for this series and am thrilled at the little brother twist. It just showed once again what amazing men the Dean brothers are.

Wild Horses is the first book of The Montana Hamiltons series by B.J. Daniels. B.J. Daniels has a writing style that takes me a little bit to get into it. It's how I was with her Beartooth, Montana series and now with this series. There are parts that really lag in the book and then parts that I can't read fast enough. As for the suspense part of this romance you find yourself thinking it's so obvious when it isn't entirely.
Cooper Burnett has a chip on his shoulder as big as Montana itself. He's marrying the daughter of one of the richest and most influential men in Montana and that doesn't help things at all. He loves Livie, but he wants to do things on his own without the influence and help from her family. But, things just don't feel right all of a sudden. There seems to be a distance between he and Livie that he can't seem to span. When he finds out the reason it has the potential to tear his world apart.
Livie loves Cooper and wants to be his wife, but his pride has come between them more than once. One night it came to a head and Livie left mad in the middle of a storm. Fast forward to a car stuck in the snow, a helpful stranger, and a night with very unclear memories. Now, she's being blackmailed and has a huge secret that is forcing her to tell Cooper everything. She's so afraid that she'll lose everything and she can't even remember what happened.
I got annoyed with Cooper a lot! I get his anger, but you would think finding out that his fiance' may or may not have been raped would be enough to cool his judgmental anger a bit. Don't get me wrong if he were to get confirmation that Livie cheated then I would be right behind him in his anger, but at the time all he knew was that she had a night that she can't remember, every reason to believe she had sex that night and is now being blackmailed. Plus, his pride is the primary reason for 90% of the problems. I did admire that he stuck with Livie even though he felt the need to punish her. He loved her and had that sense of duty to help her even when he was more angry at her than he ever had been.
I actually found Livie very likable. Yes, she came from wealth, but she never came across as the poor little rich girl. She loved Cooper and even when he was being unreasonable she had his back. I can't even say I think she made a mistake the night everything happened. She had every right to get away from the drama and as fate would have it she ended up in a vulnerable position. Yes, leaving a car with a strange man isn't the smartest move, but her other option was freezing in a car during a snowstorm. Ultimately, what happened when she was in the stranger's care was beyond her control and sad. Yet, she accepted all responsibility for all that happened and instead of getting angry at Cooper for his lack of empathy she felt terrible guilt and fear that she would lose the love of her life.
If you have read any of the Beartooth, Montana series you'll be happy to know that we get a peek back at the characters from this series and even find out some interesting information about some of their key characters.

My review is for Countermeasure by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey
Hotness Rating 3 out of 5
Countermeasure is the first book of the Countermeasure series and my first read by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey. It will not be my last! This book has it all - intrigue, smart characters, a sizzling attraction, sexual tension and amazing supporting characters. This book is definitely not light and fluffy. The characters are so well-developed that you "feel" right along with them. The story has depth and emotion that sucks you right in and leaves you begging for more.
Trevor lost his parents under what he considers questionable circumstances. They went off on a sailing trip and never came back. Their boat was found with no sign of his parents. After a brief investigation the case was closed citing a joint suicide or accidental drownings. Trevor knows better, but without further clues finding out what really happened is on hold. As an NSA analyst Trevor is privy to private conversations. It's his job to eavesdrop. When a conversation passes his way that mentions the name of his parent's boat Trevor can't help, but delve further to see if it leads to information on his parents. In doing so, he has bought himself the attention of ex-CIA agent Cassandra James. Attention that will forever change his life.
Cassandra James left the CIA after getting shot in the line of duty. She lost all faith and trust in her fellow agents. Trust isn't exactly something that comes easy to her as it is. She's now working for her dad in his securities business. She's long since given up on making him love her and would settle for making him proud at least once. But, then the unthinkable happens. He finally gives her the lead for a top-client in making sure the drug that they are developing is secure only to have all of the data stolen right from under their noses. Kicked off the case and having shamed her father Cassandra goes at finding the data and getting it back herself. Her private investigation leads her to Trevor, but not in the way she thought. She first suspected him of guilt, but now has enlisted him as her partner.
When Trevor and Cassandra stop dancing around one another the sparks fly. I love how Trevor owns his feelings and puts them out there. Cassandra has huge trust issues and this spills over to her love life as well. She knows one thing for sure that she will never trust her heart to anyone. It destroyed her father when her mom died and left him unable to even show Cassandra love. She will never give anyone that much power over her. Or at least that's what she thinks. Trevor has different ideas and he's a force to reckoned with.
I like romantic suspense, but it's a love/hate relationship. I go crazy the entire book trying to figure out who did it and don't enjoy the book as I should. That was not the case with this story. Cassandra and Trevor just sucked me in and I was along for the ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole story.

When I read anything by Nora Roberts I always expect the light and fluffy that I've come to associate with her. The Collector is definitely not what I expected. Don't get me wrong it offers the romance that we all know and love, but with it we get suspense, tons of background and well-developed characters that reach out and grab you.
Lila Emerson has one of the coolest jobs ever. She is a professional house sitter. This allows her tons of freedom and flexibility to write her young adult books. She witnesses a woman being pushed from a window one evening while observing the neighbors through her binoculars. Okay fine, some would call it spying, but Lila likes to watch people. It helps her to create her stories. She reports the murder and everything she had observed leading up to the event stating that she witnessed the dead girl and her boyfriend fighting. When the police arrive they find the boyfriend dead by apparent suicide. Lila is ready to just move on with her life and get rid of the image of that poor girl falling to her death. But, fate has different plans for her.
Ashton Archer isn't buying it when the police tell him that his brother murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself. His brother was not immune to trouble and was always looking for the easy way out, but he would never kill someone and was definitely too self-absorbed to take his own life. Ashton can't seem to convince the police that they have it wrong, so he decides to take matters in his own hands. As a brother he has to find out the truth and clear his brother's name and Lila is the obvious place to start. He expects answers, but he doesn't expect her to catch his artist's eye. Her very person just begs to be painted. Now, he just has to convince her to agree to it. Oh yeah, and keep them alive that would be good too. It seems that his brother had gotten in with some really bad people.
I really did enjoy this story. Ashton became so absorbed in his art that he would just give orders. It made me laugh every time this occurred. It was just so funny how he completely got lost in himself and forgot all of the manners that he showed normally. The way he tried so hard to keep his overly complicated family organized was endearing. The way he stood up to his butthole of a father was all kinds of hot. I loved Lila and how she took care of herself. Her independence was what made her the woman she is, but she didn't let it define her. She was able to partner up with Ashton and work as a team just as comfortably as she worked alone.

For those of you that have read Countermeasure by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey you have to read this book. I can not tell you how many books that I've finished and just wished I had a little more of what happens next. Ecstasy by the Sea is that book. The Bytes of Life series could be read independently of the Countermeasure series, but I would advise reading them as companions.
In Ecstasy by the Sea we get a peek at Trevor and Cassandra's wedding and their move to Ireland. I loved the descriptions of how Bob is stepping up to be the dad that he should have always been. Trevor is so sweet and works so hard to surprise Cassie with an unexpected honeymoon. Their love comes across even more in this short story and the scenes are a ton hotter.
I can not wait to read more on this couple and the characters that make up the Countermeasures series.

Cuffed at Midnight is a companion novella to the Countermeasure series by the fabulous writing duo of Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey. For anyone that has ever read a book and just wondered what happens next these companion novellas are the perfect solution. I am loving the Bytes of Life companion books.
This book is narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. I thoroughly enjoy Tim's narration of Trevor. He does an equally good job with Cassie. And kudos to him for reading these hot and spicy scenes so well. There are times that I can read a good sex scene, but listening to it is uncomfortable. Not in this case at all. So good!
In Cuffed at Midnight Cassandra is at a loss for what to get Trevor for his birthday. This is his first birthday with them as a couple and she wants to make it special and memorable. And boy does she. Expect edible body oils, cuffs, and lots of down and dirty sex. Trevor's reaction to his gift was hugely intoxicating. I swear my ears were sweaty by the time I was done listening to this story.
