This is a great way to get an inside look at each book of the bible, particularly if you haven't read all the books of the bible, while at the same time, spending each day, uplifted and encouraged by God's word.
Not confined to any particularly year, but rather a perpetual calendar,"Designed for Devotion: A 365-Day Journey from Genesis to Revelation" ties together not only the Old Testament and the New Testament and shows how the background and history of the Old Testament explains the basis for the New Testament but readers are given biblical history, daily life encouragement and even background information about each book of the bible, making this a great way to begin to understand and appreciate the Bible as a whole and not just key verses, or passages.
For those who may not want a hardcover or soft print, "Designed for Devotion: A 365-Day Journey from Genesis to Revelation" is also available on the Kindle and Nook and for myself, this is something that I can find myself adding either at night or in the morning to my regular bible study/reading time.
There is a brief introduction to the devotional and from there, "Designed for Devotion: A 365-Day Journey from Genesis to Revelation" heads right into the devotionals with a clean cut approach that makes, "Designed for Devotion: A 365-Day Journey from Genesis to Revelation" an absolute must have, for anyone's personal devotional time. For some of us, we do at some point in our lives, maybe in all parts of our lives, that no matter what we try to do, we seem to not be able to fit in with others.
In Ken Gire's, "Relentless Pursuit", this is addressed as he addresses outsiders from the Bible, history and even his own life, and with discussion questions geared toward motivating, encouraging and provoke both personal reflection and group discussion (if the book is used in a group setting), how our eyes can be opened, to the friendship and promise of not leaving us alone, that God gives us.
"Relentless Pursuit" is not a cure all book and doesn't offer absolutes but rather, reminders that we really are not alone as we may feel and through introspective questions, encourages the reader to really discover ways to reach out to others, via community involvement, growth as a Christian and introspection.
I really enjoyed the layout of the book. The questions that are offered are brief but to the point, and the overall layout of the writing, is personal but not over the head. It felt like I was reading a personal journal and the style of writing is casual and conversational, not condemning nor did it makes promises that were not attainable.
It reads like the gentle push of a good friend whose encouraging to look to the Lord and find ways that we can reach out from feeling alone or ostracized or as an outsider and instead, find healthy ways to move past feeling the feelings that one may currently have at the moment.
The book itself is short and yet detailed and filled as well not just with biblical references, but the cultural references to iconic books, movies and topics make it easy to realize that the feelings we are having, are just temporary and more than anything, we are not the only ones.
This is a great book to read and if you are starting the New Year with the resolution to be more involved or maybe you are new to an area and having trouble re-adapting, whatever the circumstances, "Relentless Pursuit" is a touching, compassionate book that for the reader, reminds them how they are not really alone. Using passages from "The Hobbit and"Bible, Jim Ware, compares the two along with what we can take in our own lives, not just from Bilbo Baggins, but what the Bible has to offer in its own stories of ordinary people, often used in extraordinary ways.
Sharing bits of triva, not only about,"The Hobbit, but also about Tolkien, Jim Ware really interweaves what readers can take from enjoying not just a timeless book like the Bible, but even that of, "The Hobbit. What Jim Ware attempts and manages to convey throughout the book is how even in an exquisite tale like, "The Hobbit, we can find hints of the major themes of God's work woven throughout, tales of faith, grace, redemption and hope.
The book,"Finding God in the Hobbit", is overall a short and easy read at 168 pages. Filled with allegorical interpretations and ruminations based on both, "The Hobbit and, the "Bible,"Finding God in the Hobbit" really helps take reading the book,The Hobbit to a diferent level. In addition, Jim Ware's work, brings out the themes that Tolkien's background as a Roman Catholic, his blending of Celtic, Anglo and Old Norse mythology, that can be seen throughout the The Hobbit and the rest of the triology.
As a fan of Tolkien and the "Lord of the Rings" books, "Finding God in the Hobbit" was a joy to read, not only because of the loved passages that are included throughout the book, but for the underlying Christian themes that, though it wasn't the intent of the books, when they were written, can clearly be seen and recognized in the archetypes that are presented throughout the books.

It was disappointing and difficult to go through, ""Fearless Daughters of the Bible: What You Can Learn from 22 Women Who Challenged Tradition, Fought Injustice and Dared to Lead" mostly because the book, rather than be objective, felt too much subjective.
Despite its attempts to address the points that was shared in, "Fearless Daughters of the Bible: What You Can Learn from 22 Women Who Challenged Tradition, Fought Injustice and Dared to Lead" didn't really seem to live up to the overall presentation that the book had shared with the reader.
Instead, what the reader gets, is a book that has too much focus on modern social issues and ends up being more politically than really theological based; ""Fearless Daughters of the Bible: What You Can Learn from 22 Women Who Challenged Tradition, Fought Injustice and Dared to Lead" loses the reader in a few places, where it becomes finger pointing and just loses the appeal of a book that had the potential to really showcase the strengths of the women who had faith in God and followed Him.
I was very disappointed with, "Fearless Daughters of the Bible: What You Can Learn from 22 Women Who Challenged Tradition, Fought Injustice and Dared to Lead" and felt instead of focusing on the actual 22 women in the Bible, seem to be more of a social agenda driven book.
It was difficult to really finish, mostly because of the lack of focus, and the emphasis more on modern day examples and just the over all heavy handiness of how the topics were treated.
The writing style was a bit heavy handed in different areas of the book, that lost me as a reader and there were a few areas where,"Fearless Daughters of the Bible: What You Can Learn from 22 Women Who Challenged Tradition, Fought Injustice and Dared to Lead" was heavy handed on criticism about the church, followers of the faith and how the Bible ,instead of focusing on what was thought the book was about, "Fearless Daughters of the Bible", instead seem more of a book of criticism on topics, that as a reader, I felt really was not related to what the book, seem to be intended for, and should have been left for either an article or the subject of another book.
In the end, "Fearless Daughters of the Bible: What You Can Learn from 22 Women Who Challenged Tradition, Fought Injustice and Dared to Lead" was a difficult book to review, mostly due to the disappointment at the end of the book, how the topics were present, some often feeling like the author, just goes off in a tangent, and in a lot of ways, the book also felt misleading, in that it seems to present one image of what the book was going for, but instead, presented another image that just falls into a questionable if not, too critical look at the church and how the Bible is presented that bears really no relation to what the book was presented to share with the reader.(less)

A new installment of the Regency series, 'A Flight of Fancy' was a fun read that is set in 1812; The book sets itself apart from other Christian romance, in that the main character really sets apart other heroines in she has this passionate love for books, the Greek language and above all ballooning; She is described as wearing spectacles and bookish, and Cassandra really came across as set apart from her peers (and very headstrong) and able to hold her own when circumstances calls her to be able to in her life.
'A Flight of Fancy' is not a light heart read...Set against the background of the Luddite rebellion, this is a book that you either will really like or really hate, depending on what you are looking for in a Regency book.
Laurie Eakes has provided a very well thought out book that is intelligent with the main character's, Cassandra, living up to her scholarly background with discussion of ballooning and math formulas, capturing the sometimes non-linear complications of relationships on all levels, along with the general nuances and mores of the time setting.
This is an intelligent book, that for some, looking for a formulaic romance, might be bored, but if you are looking for something that is indepth, suspenseful with no clear cut antagonists, 'A Flight of Fancy' is well worth the time and investment to read.
In a way, I can describe this as a nerdy, geeky, Christian, romantic novels that filled all the expectations and more with an intelligent character that lives up to her character build up, well researched background for the story and the relationships are well thought and seems more characteristics than the simple formula of boy meets girl, boy loses girl and in this, girl decides to not just wait around and decides to take up an adventurous hobby.(less)

Maybe it's the co-worker in the cubicle with you with the strong perfume and that laugh that feels like nails across the blackboard?
Whichever is the case, one thing tends to be true...they are driving you crazy.
In his book,"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys", readers are treated, with often humorous remarks on dealing with the "crazy" people and situations in their lives.
There were times, i caught myself laughing and nodding with agreement, as Mike Bechtle, shared insightful observations and tips in dealing with this thing called, social interactions and the craziness, we often find ourselves dealing with on a daily basis.
With references to Proverbs, the book,"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys", is a layman, "I get where you're coming from, book that doesn't talk down and also really connects the reader with common sense approaches to dealing both effectively and in a healthy way with life situations.
In the chapter, "Don't Sweat the Wrong Stuff", the author shared this small tidbit about negative people ( and don't we seem to know one or spot them a mile away),
"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys"A lot of people get upset at everything that happens around them. They're on a lifelong quest to see the negative in everything, and they appoint themselves the caretaker of everyone else's behavior. That perspective keeps then steeped in drama. ( "People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys", page 112).
It's like people have made acting like Eeyore, a career choice, but this is where ,"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys",steps in and offers very helpful, down to earth, rational approaches to dealing with those people, driving you crazy.
Reality is no one is perfect and stressful situations, trying times, enclosed spaces and the holidays seem to bring out the worse and just plain, crazy in people, and ,"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys" , really offered real life, rational solutions to both handling and drawing boundaries where it is needed in our lives.
The book is written by someone who authentically came across that there is no denying people can and will be difficult.
This is a well thought out book that helps bring about a different perspective on how to deal with those craziness in a a realistic and manageable way.
What this book isn't about, is a book about abusive situations which is on a whole level by itself and should be reported,of course, to proper authorities at all times and should never be attempted to be dealt with alone.
This is a book for the relative who takes advantage, the irritating co-worker who is driving you crazy with the same old stories, the mother in law who keeps dropping by at the worse time without calling or maybe Uncle Joe who has a sob story everytime he needs something...whatever is the case,In his book,"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys", Mike Bechtle, helps bring a perspective in how not to let people get under our skin as much as we may let them.
This is a book about gaining control how we react to other people and discovering the power in changing our perspective to how others are reacting or dealing with us.
Maybe you can eventually have that drama free holiday or day at work you are hoping for or maybe ,"People Can't Drive You Crazy If You Don't Give Them The Keys" can help you get back the keys, that is needed using a cutting to the chase, common sense, proven strategies in not only handling but in staying sane.(less)

Filled with thirteen weeks of devotionals, eye catching sidebars and relevant anecdotes that "kids" between the ages of 9-13, will be able to relate and filled with pictures, puzzles, and special ideas to keep kids attentions, I really liked the setup of the "90-Day Devotional" that makes either a fun family time addition, home school curriculum and encouragement to develop a better, bible reading and study habit.
The softcover and eye catching front page, really helps draw kids in, the pages within, are usually, one or two pages of devotions that's enough to keep the kid's interest and not bore them to quickly at the same time.
Both the scripture and memory verses, with topical chapters, helped make this easy for me and the kids to work through and in case of questions, easy for the kids to look up on their own.
Adventures in Odyssey is a family friendly name that is familiar in many households, so for them to have released a devotional like this was pretty exciting since this is a name that can be trusted and kids were aware about their programs.
It helped make teaching, learning and engaging in a time devoted just to reading and studying the bible, not only easier but more fun for the kids, and its hoped that future titles will soon be released under the Adventures in Odyssey name.
What I liked the most, is it deals with topics in a way that, the subject matter doesn't go over the kid's heads, doesn't talk down to them, and at the same time, still challenges and encourages, like a devotional should do for any reader.
This is a great devotional book for kids, in that it really helps keep the kids engaged and excited to work through each day.(less)

With, "A Farmer's Daughter: Recipes from a Mennonite Kitchen", I enjoyed the mix of different spins on everyday comfort food and new ways of making familiar dishes such as: Campfire Potatoes, Moroccan Chicken Kebabs, Ginger and Honey Salmon, along with new spins on desserts such as Butterscotch Cookies, and Pumpkin Maple Whoopie Pies.
What makes a good cook book?
Ease of use, instructions that speak plainly to a wide variety of cooks in the kitchen, ingredients that are appropriate for the type of cookbook being written, with, "A Farmer's Daughter: Recipes from a Mennonite Kitchen",the cook will find a simple, down home, easy to read cookbook, with ingredients, that for many, can already be found in the kitchen or canned if you are a canner.
I enjoy the practicality of the cookbook. It had recipes that I know I will be using over and over, which is sometimes the trouble with owning cookbooks. There maybe one or two I could use but the rest, either I'm unsure of, pretty sure no one will care for, or the ingredients weren't attainable.
However, "A Farmer's Daughter: Recipes from a Mennonite Kitchen", offers recipes that have enough of a variety that no matter what the situation, something can be found for, just about any occasion and the personal anecdotes and quotes, brought a very down home touch to the cookbook.
The list of ingredients can be found at any grocery store and the directions are simple, precise and makes just enough, not too little or too much, but the right amount for any family.
The only drawbacks that I could find was that there were no pictures of the dishes that were made, but in all honesty, that is a small drawback, compared to the overall quality of the cookbook that is sure to be a family favorite in any home.
This book was given to me via Revell a division of Baker Publishing Group in exchange for my personal opinion(less)

Granted, I have a cookbook collection, some of which I barely used, so I was interested in what, makes the "The Amish Family Cookbook" something worth having and what did it have to offer and I was very impressed in the ease that the recipes had to offer.
Normally when it comes to cookbooks, they seem to fall in either: 1. Good for those not comfortable in the kitchen, 2. Good for those who know what a microwave is, 3. Beginner cook who can make dishes from scratch, 4. Potential chef, 5. Chef that can either go by the recipe or improvise, 6. Who needs a cookbook, I can cook from scratch by imagining the combination of food
With, "The Amish Family Cookbook", I have to say that the cookbook was good for 1, 2, and 3, in the ease that the recipes were in being followed.
Granted, when I made several of the recipes, I focused a lot on the baking, because that is where my skill is, although I would have to say, that I haven't quite mastered, making perfectly good cakes that were leveled.
This cookbook, offers comfort food, wonderful desserts and meals that the family would love, the ingredients are not anything exotic, can be found around the home and it was nice, particularly for those who either have little to no skills in the kitchen, that there were more than a few occasional ingredients that can be found on the grocery shelf, already canned, so you just need to open and pour the needed ingredient.
Now, you may wonder, how does this make, "The Amish Family Cookbook" good?
Simple.
The cookbook shows how its possible to have good cooking without thinking one needs to be a Master Chef to do so; The food is comfort food and also presents ideas to liven up the dinner table, after a long day of work, running errands, whatever it is that life may keep you busy at or away from the home.
Along the way, the cookbook, also reads more like a book with excerpts from Amish novels, inspiring (and) encouraging quotes along the side and the recipes will have you filled with confidence to try things out and liven up the meals.
I like this book for the fact that it doesn't over-complicate creating good meals, the ingredients are easy, simple and inexpensive and the recipes clearly brings new meaning to comfort food.
There are some really great recipes for the main meals, though there are a few cons to the book.
Despite having a usual index, it would have been nicer to have a way to find recipes by ingredients, and the book lives up to its simplicity, pictures of recipes already made would have been nice, but at the same time...this is really small compare to how the book makes for either a good addition to one's personal library or as a gift for birthdays or for the holidays.
The spiral binding makes this book easy to open flat and this is one of those cookbooks, that one will find themselves creating from more than just a few recipes.
It truly lives up to its name as a "Family Cookbook".

Filled with study questions to not only reinforce the most basic understanding of the foundations of Christianity, but also to serve for either personal or group study, "What Ever Christian Ought to Know" seeks to help new, maturing, or "I didn't know that" Christians (and non-Christians) understand the basic foundations that play a part in the Christian faith.
This is not an in depth book that is going to cover everything under the sun and the moon and the stars, but I like how it does approach the basic of the basics, with scriptural backing and enough coverage to provide anyone with a starting point to go from, particularly with many churches, these days not teaching really, the foundation of the Christian faith.
Not, "preachy" or dry, "What Ever Christian Ought to Know" is filled with personal anecdotal stories that bring a personal tough to understanding the basic Christian doctrines and as the epilogue shares with the reader, its about growing in the faith, not just or about knowing about the Christian faith.
Twelve chapters long and covering key points, friendly, interesting, the book doesn't cover the "hot topics" if that is what the reader is looking for, instead this is a book about encouraging and taking the time to understand what the Bible is about, what following Christ is all about and not about hitting the hot topics that are prevalent these days and in conversations that people will and might encounter in their daily lives.
Looking for down points, it would have been nice if there was an appendix outlining the topics with related scripture or even an index, however, given this is a primer that is created for easy reading, yet with deep meaning, arguably this is a book that I would recommend to new, maturing or maybe even just those who are curious about the Christian faith, due to the book not being too heavy that it would lose a person's interest.
I would't recommend this book if the reader was looking for a book with deeper discussions, but for myself, I felt this was a very good "layman" for the Christian faith to have on one's bookshelf and to engage in personal or group study.
The writing is easy and conversational and with the scriptural references, many will find this to be a great starting point to understanding more about the essential truths needed for a growing faith that does need to be grounded in God's truth.
As someone who is personally busy and often find myself short on time amid juggling schedules and priorities, this is a wonderful book, i that allows time during those busy moments, to understand better the essential truths that make up the Christian faith and developing that strong foundation that is needed as a Christian.
"What Every Christian Ought to Know" truly reaches its goal of ensuring that every Christian can start their faith, understanding the basic essentials needed and in the process be empowered in their Christian growth and life.

Janet Davis, the author, shares personal anecdotes, along with scripture, and both biblical and modern day examples, that really helps women get an insight into ways that we can self-sabotage ourselves, both knowingly and unknowingly.
Having study questions at the end of the chapter, are a big help, for those who are reading this book, either for personal insight or thinking of leading a small book study group, and what stands out is, each chapter connects a modern day woman with a possible biblical equivalent with the questions, helping the reader focus on how do they, or could they see themselves in the topic being addressed.
With thirteen chapters, the book is broken into three sections and each section, I found to be pretty in depth, covering topics such as:
The Unimagined Life
Identity, and
Choices,
to name a few of the topics that Janet Davis goes into deeper detail.
As a Christian, each chapter and topic is explored extensively with corresponding passages of the bible for encouragement and insight, each chapter starting as well with pertinent quotes that are inspiring and uplifting.
I found,"My Own Worst Enemy: How to Stop Holding Yourself Back" to be a very in depth book, and the topics are thoroughly explored. For Christian women who find themselves struggling, the book is very motivating and empowering, with strong examples of strong women from the bible, and how even in today's world, we can be focused and strong and motivated, to not hold ourselves back, but have that much needed confidence to pursue our goals and face the world.
This wasn't a quick read and definitely not an overnight, this is what is going on, type of book to read, but instead, "My Own Worst Enemy: How to Stop Holding Yourself Back" works for those who are willing to take the time and effort to try and understand, how can we self-sabotage ourselves and how do we overcome those destructive methods and in place, use more constructive and healthier methods.
Covering topics such as guilt, shame, resentment, helplessness and a few more topics, I was at first wary, while reading the book.

Both the title and the description was eye catching, but a part of me was wondering if this was a "do this and you'll feel good" book, or maybe too much in line with self-help books that had a Christian theme, but I was genuinely impressed with Stephen Arterburn's, "The Exceptional Life".
Not promising to be the end all solution, balanced with relate-able examples from both current life and scripture backing, "The Exceptional Life", provides both experience and a casual, comfortable look at dealing with the things that can hold Christians back, emotionally, mentally and even spiritually, with suggestions on replacing them with more positive, healthier methods and outlooks.
Stephen candidly shares his own moment and from there he invites the reader in to looking at several emotions that are negative that can keep us from moving forward and with both scripture and illustration, show how those negative emotions can be replace with those emotions that are not only healthier but through trust in Christ, more enriching.
With discussion questions in the back to guide the reader or used in a group setting, what I initially thought of as, oh no, a self help, was replaced with, this is a good book to share with those who may find themselves struggling with negative emotions that are more emotional chains and preventing those dealing with, said chains, from moving forward.
Definitely someone who has severe trauma or issues in their lives should consult professional help, and the book,"The Exceptional Life" isn't a replacement for that, but what it does do, is provide good groundwork for those who need a little guidance or direction in their lives and are personally looking for insight on what to do and how to do so in way that is positively enriching.
A Christian counselor, Stephen Arterburn has shared his professional experience in the book with a good blend of humor, applicable experiences that helps one relate or connect to the current topic he is writing about and Scriptural insight as well.
While reading the book, something came to mind, even if one may not find, any of the major areas applicable to themselves, another aspect to consider, is that, "The Exceptional Life", could help bring some general ideas and even understanding of how someone you may know, close or not, could be going through and ways that oneself can either learn to work along with, or help encourage to overcome.
Either way, "The Exceptional Life" brings a general look at eight main areas that can sometimes hinder a Christian from moving forward both emotionally and mentally and applicable ways to move forward with grace, hope and joy. (less)

Big or small, as we make our way through each day, we seek for answers, for hope, for encouragement and for strength in all that we face.
With the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women", I discovered a bible that, as it says, addresses the everyday matters, with timeless wisdom, filled with those very qualities of strength, encouragement, reminders that we're not the only ones who face, age old matters and future hope, that all things we do face, be it yesterday, today, right now, or tomorrow, we won't face alone.
The cover was very evocative in its sheer beauty, and when I first open the package, that the book came in, I felt like my breath was taken away and realized that this bible, may soon (and did) replace the current bible that I was using.
The current edition that I'm using, is a hardcover, but as I turned the pages, it wasn't what the words that were wrapped in, that matter, but how the words were presented.
True to form, there are daily reminders, that are posted with eye-catching visual cues that are unique, called "spiritual practices"; Twenty-four in total, these "spiritual practices" are located next to Scripture passages that they relate to.
This makes reading and studying the bible, more "user friendly", in that, the reader can track specific spiritual practices that are pertinent to the reader, or say, you are reading the Scriptures via a reading plan, these "spiritual practices", helps specific passages stand out for either more in depth study, or just simple markers.
As someone who likes to highlight and underline specific passages, I really like that, in that the,"Everyday Matters Bible for Women" has already done that for me, with these markers, but on the other hand, its hard not to think as well, "How do I find highlighters and/or Crayola Twistables to now correspond to these markers, and I can highlight the corresponding Scriptures".
In the back of the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women", the reader will find an "Index of Spiritual Practices" that lists additional Scripture passages for each of the 24 "spiritual practices" marked, as well as accompanying, short devotionals, that goes with the listed, 24, "spiritual practices", written by such noted authors as, Nancy Ortberg, Kay Warren, Liz Curtis Higgs, to name a few.
I also enjoyed the short, two page, "How to use this Bible in a Small Group Study", that is included in this bible and provides a basic guide that really, can be applied to any study group setting.
I'm going to try and not write a long post about the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women", but there are so many features to this bible, that makes it stand out, that's it hard to write, just a short review.
Although its an NLT version, that is similar to every NLT version that is out there, this bible stands out in how its really an all in one bible that works very well, in encouraging both new, maturing and the "matured" Christ follower.
For example, back to the, "Index of Spiritual Practices", each of the "spiritual practices" are broken down first by "spiritual practice", then by the following of:
Everyday Matters
Everyday Profiles
Everyday Q&A's
Everyday Reflections, and finally
Additonal Scriptures of Note
I can't forget either that at the end of the bible, there is a listing for suggested further readings and if you're needing a bible map, the,"Everyday Matters Bible for Women",is big enough for a map insert to be used.
The font, used for the "Everyday Matters Bible for Women", I absolutely loved and being a busy mom/wife/woman, the font is very tired, eyes friendly for those early morning readings, or late night devotional times.
I am guessing the font size to be around 11, with enough space on the top, bottom and on one side, of the margins, for personal notes, if you are the type to write notes in your Bible.
With a hot pink ribbon bookmark, seven page explanation of the NLT, that's not all you will find in the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women". The pages are not paper thin and the binding, lays out flat, making juggling a baby in one hand, just laying the bible on a table for your "quiet time" reading, or taking it church for reading along with the bible, very easy to do.
The images and devotionals are very rich in color and even if the dust jacket isn't used or torn from use, the front cover, retains the richness and just sheer beauty of this Bible.
It was "pretty neat", reading the "Transforming Everyday Matters", a five page explanation of the "spiritual disciplines/practices" that are peppered throughout the book and really just showing how the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women", can really bring reading and studying the bible to life, for women.
"Everyday Matters Bible for Women" is specifically designed for the Christian women and in guiding, enriching and helping her, really grow and develop an active Biblical life and growth and the structure of the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women" really meets up to the challenges that we all face, in different stages of our life.
I'm very impress by how well thought out ,the layout for the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women" is, and it really shows in the work that has and was brought, into bringing this Bible into creation and shows the, "Everyday Matters Bible for Women", to a book, well worth, using for daily reading of the Bible, as a gift to the new believer, maybe you've lost a Bible and looking for a replacement or as a gift idea for your loved ones, or closest friend.

Promised to "Build and defend your faith based on God's promises", this bible starts off with a "Welcome" and a two page spread, sharing the layout of this bible along with a brief, two page discussion about the goal of the NIV. Along with the following features:
Rock Solid Truths which examines Christian beliefs and explorations of other religions
Rock Solid Principles which applies the Bible to daily decisions and challenges
Rock Solid Promises which calls out what is (and is not) promised in the Bible
Rock Solid Plans which explores God's plan and will for your life
Unshaken People which provides scriptural examples of overcoming difficulties Unshaken God which points out God's unyielding attributes
The "Rock Solid Faith Study Bible for Teens" is definitely a very solid study bible for teens (or young adults) to read and use, for growth encouragement.
Paper wise, the pages are not thin, thus making taking notes easy, but I wouldn't suggest using highlighters since they would bleed through and would suggest if not underlining, maybe using color pencils or crayola twistables.
This study bible seems to really stand out in that, it goes straight to the point and doesn't insult a teenager's intelligence. The side notes are brief and yet the bible is stylish that can be carried on to the college years and beyond.
I really liked the concordance and the inclusion of the color maps in the back really helps the reader follow along with key points that are vital to understanding the New Testament. In addition, I was also impressed, that in the footnotes, there are often references and meaning to what the Greek alternative to words were/are and brings to this particular bible, not levity but rather respect to the reader that makes this a bible that the teenager in your life would appreciate.

There were moments I found myself smiling and nodding in agreement while others, just wiping away tears as I read of Faye Bryant's experiences and her love for the Lord as she reaches out to show how much we do matter to Him.
"Ramblings from the Shower" is straight from the heart and encourages the reader to find strength that can be found in the Lord; Written in a way that everyone can find a connection to, in both good times and in bad times too.
There is a very authentic voice and Faye speaks clearly about living with faith, an authentic faith and with integrity and talks plainly to all about how we have all been there and can get through at the same time.
I personally like,"Pedestals and Potato Soup" which I think we have all encountered on both ends of the spectrum and just really illustrates how openly and honest, Faye writes in, "Ramblings from the Shower".
After reading that particular chapter, it left me crying and smiling and going, yes, on both ends, how putting people on pedestals or being put on a pedestal with false expectations can be difficult. It was such a reminder of how we can often create a mental image of what we think a person is or expect a person to be and, she really helps the reader the repercussions to both parties.
"Ramblings from the Shower" is more than just that one chapter and there are many more to be discovered, which makes this a book that is so well worth getting.
You will laugh, cry and find yourself, comforted, knowing you're not the only one, as you read, "Ramblings from the Shower" and discovered a book that captures the spirit and truth of an authentic walk with God.(less)

Not a usual commentary of the Bible,"Story: Our Journey of Heartache and Grace from Eden to Evermore" is a 203 page, softcover personal insight, that for me, really just brought out the poetry that is life and that is of the Bible.
There is just a sense of longing in Steven James book, a sense of humanity that creates a rich and emotionally charged book that had me looking at the Bible in a whole new life, in the backdrop of modern day experiences, reaching into the past and looking toward the future.
"Story: Our Journey of Heartache and Grace from Eden to Evermore" reminds us in one part of the book, "The story I see woven all throughout Scripture is a tale of passion and sacrifice-not a deal brokered between a lawyer and a judge. It was a gift given from a lover to his beloved in one final act of sacrificial love, he offers his life so that she might live." (from "Story: Our Journey of Heartache and Grace from Eden to Evermore" )
I felt this book was very deep in how it really just reaches into the Bible and pulling examples of familiar stories while weaving those tales with not just personal anecdotes of experience, but challenging the reader to look at those stories, against the backdrop of contemporary society and with poetry that this thrown throughout the book, really just making this a personal journey for not just the writer, but to the readers, that he invites to read through this story of "Heartache and Grace from Eden to Evermore".
The writing style is very free flowing yet structure, that sounds impossible, but it reminded me so much of a journal that is written, with all the personal emotions, and thoughts that reflects the author's own thoughts of reading the Bible and just a real feel of wanting the reader to understand, grasp and experience those very same feelings and insights that he, himself experienced while reading the Bible.
This is not a simple, over the night, read or a book, just for vacation, but for those who really want to see the human, living, and just emotional richness that the Bible has to offer. If you are meeting Jesus for the first time, or have known Him for a while, this is a book that just re-opens, brings a new look at the Bible and takes the extraordinary to a whole new level

Was it self-help?
Is it a motivational?
What blind spots are we even talking about, but as I begun to read through Stephen Arterburn's book, I was impressed by, not just the style of writing, which was very laid back and conversational (always a good thing), but although this, like any book, is never a substitute for actual, face to face therapy, that is beneficial to work through whatever is on one's heart, "Walking into Walls:5 Blind Spots that Block God's Work in You", really helps begin the first steps toward identifying the walls, that we can put up in our lives, that not only hinder a productive, healthy living and relationships in our lives, but can also hinder our walk with God.
Now, does any of this sound like part of us, or all of us: 1. Stubborn resistance, and/or 2. Arrogant entitlement, and/or 3. Justifiable resentment, and/or 4. Disconnected isolation, and/or 5, Blind ignorance.
Maybe.....maybe not.
"Walking into Walls:5 Blind Spots that Block God's Work in You" isn't a book that is either condemning or difficult.
The reality is that , we all have, currently or may experience at some point in our lives, one or all of these blind spots and what Stephen Arterburn, does, is with gentle guidance, encouraging anecdotes that help us see how these "walls" can blind us without knowing and even understanding through Scripture, really helps the reader, no matter how small or big the circumstances in their lives, deal with these walls, that we put up in our lives.
Currently the book is available in hardback and there is a study guide for readers to work at their own pace or with a study group and readers will find, that the book is very easy reading, yet conveys a very powerful message that we don't have to be held back by past experiences that contribute to the walls and blind spots that we carry into our present and sometimes into our futures.
I like the illustrations that Stephen Arterburn makes, blending both scripture and pop culture that really helps us identify with the examples he conveys about the walls that are built up and with them, the blind spots that can keep us from seeing what holds us captive and at the same time allowing God to do the dynamic work, HE wants to do with us and give us the future He has planned.
As shared, I started this book out with hesitation, due to, it's easy to try to offer easy solutions that are not often applicable to hard situations, and "Walking Into Walls" doesn't do this, nor does this promise to "fix your life, your car, your relationships", but instead is about getting to the beginning steps that are needed to move forward in one's life.
The interesting thing is that, there is a realization that we all carry walls and blind spots in our lives, that either we maybe aware of or just try to conveniently ignore and with the writing style of Stephen Arterburn, he really helps break down ways we can discover those walls and blind spots without it being a "log confrontation".
The reading, is in itself, just a 135 pages with the study guide that is included, taking up a good half of the other book, but from the study guide itself, its both a mixture of using Scripture for reference and growth as a Christian, and self-discovery at the same time.
The book makes then, for not only a good personal time reading, but when read in a group study, a great character growth journey, with others who may feel like they are "stuck" in the same patterns.
It really opens up to questions we may have about feeling insecure, maybe dealing with past issues, just being brave to take on new directions in life.
For all the hesitations I had going into the book initially, I came out of it, really finding this to be, for a "short book", very impressive. It's very impressive, because there are "things" in all of us, that we can work on....not to be perfect, which is not possible or even healthy to try to attain, but so we can keep moving forward into having positive, healthy relationships and lives.
Stephen Arterburn's writing is emotional; He writes to connect with the reader and to speak directly to them and he definitely achieves that in, "Walking Into Walls", while at the same time, you get that feeling of, "Oh wow, he does get it", which many of times, there are those who do need to just hear that, not to be fixed or lectured, but to know....people do understand and the book achieves it on that level.
On another level, "Walking into Walls" helps bring a better understanding of how our experiences can both help and also hinder us and how to not let it become traps that keeps us in a bondage of bitterness, denial, lies and blindness that affects all areas of our lives and how we interact with other people and just how it can affect our own journeys.
The steps that are provided, are very practical and down to earth. Stephen Arterburn doesn't share anything that would seem impossible, but rather very plausible and workable.
So, overall, "Walking Into Walls" is great reading really for anyone who finds themselves feeling stagnant in their lives, or maybe finding themselves, either physically or mentally repeating unhealthy habits and actions that are keeping them from moving forward. (less)

Then a new force comes into play. From its peculiar physiological system the little mollusk sends forth a crystal fluid which covers and coats the rough piece of rock with a soft crystalline cushion and as this grows and hardens it becomes a beautiful pearl.
It ceases to irritate and soothes and rests the wounded side of the little creature until the curse has become a blessing, and some days later the pearl fisher discovers the hidden treasure, opens the shell and takes forth a gem of purest luster and boundless value which is worn in the coronets of kings and adorns the highest rank and grandest occasions.
So someday our sorrows, irritations and wrongs, having first been sweetened by the Holy Spirit into heavenly virtues, will become the jewels of an immortal crown and will shine in the diadem of Jesus and adorn our brow forever!
~ A. B. Simpson Margaret McSweeney's book, "Mother of Pearl" is both a powerful and encouraging book for both moms and daughters to read. Covering topics such as becoming a mom for the first time, finding one's inner strength through hard times, dealing with loss, the power of being a mom, I found, Margaret's book, to be just a reminded how, as women, as mothers, we go through so many different stages in our lives and the impact, not only our own mothers, but the experience of becoming and being a mom, ourselves.
Filled with stories about Grandmothers, daughters, moms and moms to be, Margaret McSweeney's book, is filled with recognizable names of authors you have come to know and love, and new faces to get to know and grow to love as well, all the while sharing stories filled with laughter, tears and hope.
My particularly favorite was, "No One You-er Than You"-"A Masterpiece under Construction" by Shelley Malcolm and her touching words, "Yet it's exactly those wounds and scars, failures and mistakes, losses and sands that turn a grain of sand into a pearl. These experiences are the fires that forge the finest steel".
Filled with delightful quotes, anecdotes and scripture, this is a book to be shared with close friends, your mom, mother in law, Grandmother, the strong women who have been inspirational and meant so much in your life.
"Mother of Pearl" is a work of grace and love that is worth exploring, reading and re-reading again.(less)

Although, I took the time to read it more as a devotional and not as a bible study, I do have immediate plans to work through this book, in the fall.
With contributions from familiar names, readers will find themselves, challenged, convicted and encouraged to learn to just "let go" and trust God a little bit more in their lives.
This type of book, is great for new moms, maybe people going through life changes, new followers of Christ, or maybe you just have that season in your life, where you need a little bit of an encouragement to just "let go and trust God" right now.
I found the writing very free flowing in the aspect that the writers, knowingly write in a conversational, having a pep talk over a cup of coffee (or tea) manner, that really pulls the reader in.
For those who are looking for something to add to their quiet time (when ever that might be), you'll be uplifted and find yourself fully charged going through this book.
Personally, I found this book good to either read at leisure, all in one day or night (if you're a fast reader or on vacation or have lots of time on your hands), while at the same time, makes for a great bible study book, be it by yourself or in a group.
The contributing writers are very down to earth, women you can relate to in all stages of your life and, "Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure", not only clearly reflects that but they also offer a link on their "Girlfriends in God" which is worth looking into as well as the website as a whole.
I found myself nodding not just in agreement, but feeling really encouraged to take that extra step in my growth as a follower of Christ. The rhythm of the book truly captures the spirit of having those close girlfriends, in your life, who encourages you to take that extra step and reminding along the way, the strength and ability that we do have within all of us and part of that including, getting over that hesitation about trusting God.
The version I have is on an e-reader which makes it even more "take anywhere you are" worthy, but you can also find this book in a paperback version, particularly if you're, like me, the type whom enjoys highlighting, using a post it note and writing in the margins, when the books touches you in a personal way.
The content of the book is very scriptural based, the typeface is easy on the eyes to read, and I particularly just enjoyed the 12 week, 6 day setup, that makes it, again, a great bible study to work through, either by oneself or in a group setting.
This is a book so worth not only reading for yourself, but sharing with the women close to you in your lives and in a bible study setting. (less)

The study covers with dealing with protection, "Psalm 91-He Who Dwells", goes verse by verse, with quick encouragements for the reader.
I enjoyed it and was surprised that it really does, deliver, in a short study, a powerful encouragement for those who are in need of a little encouragement when just needing to be reminded that our Father in Heaven, covers us with protection, but not really in a way that we tend to define it and sometimes in ways that we don't expect His protection to be defined.
So if you're looking for a quick, bible study, this is a great way to either get into the habit, or get back to starting a bible study or even use for kick starting a quiet time. (less)

Wished you had a perfect white picket fence life?
Truth is that many people don't have those perfect lives and reading the bible, we see that following and having faith in God, isn't about having a perfect life, but instead, we see both in the Old and New Testament, a reminder of how imperfect and broken people we all are, with stories that some of us may never be aware of, and yet, what God shows, is that He doesn't look for perfection and instead shows over and over that no matter what our backstory is, we can be used for His glory and we can move beyond what we feel are anchors in our lives.
Look at the story we all know, Adam and Eve....look at Noah's drunkenness, look at Moses self doubt, the bible is filled with imperfect, people who made bad choices and yet God showed that we are still worthy in His eyes and possible to be used.
Maybe not for greatness that will be celebrated (in a good way), on the front page news, and as much as we live in a society that expects the worse from everybody and holds their past in forever condemnation, God doesn't and in, "Shame Interrupted: How God Lifts the Pain of Worthlessness and Rejection " by Edward T. Welch, the reader is guided to see how they don't have to feel bounded by whatever chains they carry with them through life, but instead can find, hope, redemption and freedom.
As shared by the publisher,"Welch guides readers on a journey through Scripture to discover the one enduring remedy for shame: the blood of Christ. By bringing shame into the light, where it can be addressed by the Bible, Welch helps readers to understand and receive the acceptance of God in Christ and experience the relief that comes with freedom from shame."
"Shame Interrupted: How God Lifts the Pain of Worthlessness and Rejection " does exactly that and this doesn't promise to be a, "read this book and overnight be free" but rather...read this book and take those steps needed,to fully and truly, through Christ, move forward, not backward or chained to the past.
Well written, freeing and compassionate, "Shame Interrupted: How God Lifts the Pain of Worthlessness and Rejection " is a great book for those who struggled with feelings of shame and worthlessness. (less)

Stirring in its honesty and raw emotions that is shared by Julie Ziglar Norman, the daughter of a father known for "being positive", "Growing Up Ziglar" reminds us that God meets us in between the lie of perfection that is often fed to us by society, media and ourselves, and the stumbling we all find at some point in our lives and how no matter what we do, or who we are, we all fall short of perfection and make mistakes and bad choices in our lives, but that is where God meets us to give us the strength, the hope and the encouragement that it isn't about perfect, because perfect doesn't exist, but what do we do with the opportunities that is always presented, with each new day, to move forward, not backwards or to stand still where we are.
One of the most difficult things that people seem to struggle with is the concept of forgiveness, for ourselves, for our choices, for what is allowed and to move forward and in, "Growing Up Ziglar", Julie shows how that we can't let shame be our jailer and that we can have hope and courage, particularly courage, to move forward.
God redeems and that is a unique quality about Him; He is about using what is broken, strengthening, rebuilding and equipping us, for His glory, to be stronger not only in our lives, but in the lives of others.
In one part of the book, "Growing Up Ziglar", Julie shares, "Some people actually believe that choosing to have a positive attitude is the same as choosing to be phony. They believe that a positive attitude glosses over reality, and that it is simply an act and a way to stay in denial about the harsh reality of life. However, the attitude you do choose, whether it be positive or negative, is the attitude that shades your perspective on life and how you'll live it each day. In fact, not choosing your attitude is a choice that will keep you on an emotional roller coaster."
"Growing Up Ziglar" is a powerful book to read about, not having a perpetual Pollyanna attitude towards life....Its a reminder that everyone, including Christians, are still human beings who will make bad choices but its not forever. There is still room to change and that we are not forever locked in the decisions that we make, but have the ability to grow beyond that and particularly in and through the help of our Father in Heaven.
If you find yourself buried in negative self talk or in how you view the world or feel there is no second chances,"Growing up Ziglar" is a powerful reminder and encouragement that there is always hope, particularly by allowing God to redeem all of one's life, even the worse choices for something better.(less)

In comes, "Working Successfully with Screwed-Up People " by Elizabeth B. Brown; Although it maybe geared more for the workplace, there are insights that anyone can take away from the book that would help deal with day to day situations, that the reader may find themselves in.
Reading, "Working Successfully with Screwed-Up People ", a good follow up to Elizabeth Brown's book, "Living Successfully with Screwed-Up People",there are practical insights that can be taken away, really for any situation that a person may and will find themselves in.
Maybe its the relative, the neighbor next door, or if you work from home or at the office, dealing with difficult customers or co-workers, really, is there isn't a situation, where one would find themselves struggling to work with conflicting personalities?
Dealing with social media situations are a bit more awkward since its often difficult (or easy, depending how you look at it) to read the emotional tone and intent behind words, but when dealing with people, one on one, even over the phone, being able to work successfully with others, is such a vital skill and act of diplomacy that is needed, in an ever challenging world.
The book is informative, lighten with a humorous, "I've been there" approach and its not about changing other people....we all know that's not possible, but its about changing our approach and how we react to the situations that we come across.
"Working Successfully with Screwed-Up People " offers valuable insights that challenges, you, the reader, on how to deal with other people that you may encounter in a way that is diplomatic but also realizing that people are going to act in ways that may rub us the wrong way, but we have the power and ability to choose how we react to those situations.
So if you are finding yourself in the workforce, or even as a work at home parent, starting up, building or maintaining a home business, small business or part of the workforce, on any level, check out, "Working Successfully with Screwed-Up People ".

Rather than a one-size-fits-all answer, the following principles are meant to function much as additional fuel to keep you going even if your unexpected journey is a lengthy one.".
Many of us have had times in our lives, when something comes up that doesn't come up as planned or scheduled, or maybe what we thought our lives were imagined to be; Maybe we have unexpected surprises that finds us having to re-adjust and change courses or keep strong and sail through while managing with whatever it is, which has come up.
Whatever is the case, "I Didn’t Sign Up for This!: Navigating Life’s Detours" by Aaron Sharp is a book about dealing, adapting and support through the changes that we can and also cannot expect in our lives.
From the look of the cover, it is a reminder, we will have moments of "wildernesses" in our lives, however minor or major and using an example of Elijah (though we may not find ourselves in such the same position as Elijah was), I like how, "I Didn’t Sign Up for This!: Navigating Life’s Detours" reminds us that, "Though we all have expectations, we must remember that we cannot write our expectations in stone. If we are honest with ourselves, we would have to agree with James’s point that we can do nothing on our own. The only reason we make it from one day to the next is because God has provided the breath and life for us. We must approach our expectations with the understanding that we have not been promised tomorrow." as we are poignantly reminded in Matthew 6:25-34.
Trouble is that for many of us who are planners, organizers, basically type A personalities who like to know what happens second by second, what the next hour will bring, and schedule to the "T" tomorrow, often life does have other plans and we have to learn to be able to readjust, to re-plan and often, to weather whatever it is that tomorrow (or even today) may bring, and with that, "I Didn’t Sign Up for This!: Navigating Life’s Detours" does that very thing.
We are all going to have times of wildernesses in our lives that will test our faith, our hope and our strength, and "I Didn’t Sign Up for This!: Navigating Life’s Detours" reminds us through scriptural and personal insight, that we are capable of doing that.
People will fail us.
Places will fail us.
Life will fail us, but God never will though it is easy to feel that.
So if you are looking for an inspiring, encouraging, and a you can get through this, book,"I Didn’t Sign Up for This!: Navigating Life’s Detours" is a wonderful read to help you go forward, not backward or stay in place....be inspired...be encouraged!(less)

1 Timothy 6:12 inspires, strengthens and encourages us to not give up and to push forward and in Ben Patterson's, "Muscular Faith", readers are encouraged the same thing with practical, biblical, down to earth encouragement that at the end of the book, will have you fired up to push forward, not give up and be encouraged through practical, yet biblical reading.
This was a book that I didn't want to put down and when I was finally finished with it, it was dog-eared, underlined, filled with post it notes (my personal rating system of when a book challenges, inspires and leaves one thinking) and I recommend this to readers who may find themselves often at a cross road in life.
We live in a busy world with conflicting messages and if there is anything that we need is a fight that is muscular to stand the test of time and Ben Patterson's book, "Muscular Faith" does that.
Think of it as a push to strengthen your faith and what is it, why do you believe, what you believe book that will have you going, I can do this and I will be able to do this.
The writing is thorough, not simplistic, but also not academic that the average layman can not pick up on the basic principles and ideals that Ben Patterson shares in,"Muscular Faith" and for those who are looking for a stronger faith as a Christian, this is a well written book that is worth adding to one's library, be it on a kindle, nook, or in paperback form.
Ideal for bible study, be it personal, or in a group, "Muscular Faith" is a book to read.

With, "Saving Savvy", readers will learn not be encouraged how using the slow cooker in a way that saves both time and feed the family, but learn vital tips, be encouraged through Scripture and just learn basic common sense tips that one will learn from God and Grandma's way of handling money.
What I like about "Saving Savvy" is that this is a book, that is applicable to anyone. There is no, "I can't apply to this home", but the tips that Kelly Hancock, shares to reader, can be used in any size home and income.
With free templates in the back of the book, I really recommend, Saving Savvy" for homes that are looking to both save money and also live generously, using ideas and materials that are already at home, can be easily bought or for the more savvy, found through the classifieds or grapevine (such as a deep-freeze freezer that is helpful for stocking meat).
Her writing is simple and its nothing that one would read and think, "That is too complicated", but instead show how by making little changes in our lives, we can make a difference in how we are spending and can adjust our standard of living.
This is not a cure-all, solve all your money troubles, but to be read as a book, to help correct bad spending habits, teach ways of approaching shopping and be able to live a life that encourages not only one's way of living but even one's way of giving.

The central character, Monica, is a sixteen year noble, whom, at the age of four was rescued from a death sentence that wiped out, not only her family, but the residents of the "city" that they had reside in.
Focused on Monica, discovering her fate, and the hopes of millions who lives are placed on her shoulder, "Precisely Terminated" is a thrilling and psychological science fiction story that plays with many questions of "What If" and yet threaded not with subtle messages of gloom, but rather subtle messages of hope as Monica, with the help of others, seek to find a way for a better life for all the people of Cantral and Cillineese.
Geared more for young adults and older, "Precisely Terminated" is a very engrossing story that blends a dystopian view of an unspecified future with wonderful story-telling.
If you enjoy reading science fiction, "Precisely Terminated" is a book to explore.(less)

In,"Changing Zip Codes: Finding Community Wherever You're Transplanted", Carol Stratton, shares her experiences of twenty-two moves and counsels others, who, even with families, find themselves, seeking stability in, essentially a culture of change.
This can range from military families to families who because of un-stable economic times, may have to find themselves relocating for better jobs or even a better way of life, but in the process, find their lives and that of those around them up-rooted.
No longer do we live in a culture, where most people tend to grow up, live and die in the same communities, but more and more families being spread across the country and even the globe, to deal with both cultural and economical needs and for the follower of Christ,"Changing Zip Codes: Finding Community Wherever You're Transplanted", helps those who find themselves being uprooted, find that needed stable groundwork as they re-adjust to their new lives and towns.
With the proliferation of social media, its easier to stay in contact with others and even discover new contacts, but at the heart, moving is still life changing, both on a psychological and emotional level.
It makes having something like, "Changing Zip Codes: Finding Community Wherever You're Transplanted", very helpful as the reader is not only reassured but given practical tips on how to deal with the adjustments that need to be made.
For example, in "Day One", Carol shares the following with the reader, "As you and I adjust to a move, we need to remember that God wants to communicate with us. James 1:5 tells us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God for it and he will give it to us generously. It might take time to translate into your circumstances, but we serve a God who loves to translate his truth into our lives. Today, believe that whatever decisions you are wrestling with, He will have an answer."
One, its not easy making the decision to move. There are many factors that have to be considered, both financial and emotional and is it really practical.
Two, no matter what...moving is not an easy over-night thing...sometimes it can be plain unpredictable, and many of us, maybe are currently living away from family or friends and don't have that support base we need if facing, say, a second, third or tenth move for whatever the reason.
Reading,"Changing Zip Codes: Finding Community Wherever You're Transplanted" comes in handy, because its having a best friend that will come along with you and no, its not a cure all or provide all the answers, but Carol does show you who and where to go for a foundation of answers that no matter what life throws our way, is always there.
So while the movers are packing the fine china and you're praying that the china make it to the new place in non-jigsaw puzzle manner....Read, "Changing Zip Codes: Finding Community Wherever You're Translpanted" and be strengthened and encouraged that no matter where you go, where you and/or your family have to move to you will get through this and in the process, have a basis not only for the community you need but great tips from someone whose been there (twenty-two times)o how to get where you need to go.

Like the "Faithgirlz" counterpart, the "NIV Boys Bible" is geared for boys, ages 8-13(ish), and filled with devotionals, biblical facts, all in a hardcover case that can take a tumble and yet durable at the same time.
Filled with the following:
* Introductions to each book of the Bible
* Hundreds of highlighted verses worth memorizing
* What's the Big Deal?-Need-to-know biblical stories and people
* Check It Out-Interesting and fun facts about Bible times and characters
* Grossology-Gross and gory stuff they never knew was in the Bible
* Makin' It Real-Help for applying Bible stories to their everyday lives
This bible makes a great gift that appeals for boys who are looking for something, well, boyish to carry to church. For my son, this was "the bible", that he is attached to; It's colorful, eye-catching and just it appeals to the things that boys like.
To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a different translation or cover available for this bible, but you'll find, like I did, that it definitely holds up well and unless you want to get a cover for it, the bible holds up very well on its own.
Due to everyone being familiar with the NIV translation, there's not really a need to go into the translation itself, since it is well known enough to speak for itself, but what makes the bible appealing is its target audience.
Boys will love this.
The "NIV Boys Bible" has enough "extras" to keep them going back and learning about God's word at the same time.
So...really....if you are looking for a book that is going to encourage boys to check out God's word...this bible will do just the job.
