I was excited to read this, not only for the awesmazing cover (count those abs) but because this would be my first book by Aleksandr Voinov. I had previously read a short story by him that was a part of an anthology; clearly, it was just a small slice of something big. Counterpunch had me freaking out, and I can say I was not disappointed. Mr Voinov has just become a must read author by me, I love his gritty writing style and the amazing characters he created. Whether you hate or love them, I guarantee you will remember them.
Counterpunch is the third book in the Belonging series, I have not read the previous books before but I will be on them like white on rice. As you may see this book can be read as a stand alone, and I implore you to read it. I guess I should warn you that this book contains slavery, there is dub-con/no-con, and it’s violent. I won’t warn you against it though, why should it matter if you are looking for a great read, and by gawd have you found it.
Brooklyn Marshall is a slave, but he wasn’t born one. An accident while on the job led him to his life of being owned. He is a puppet to people he can’t see, all he knows is to fight and win. He trains, fights and every now and again, he is sold to highest bidder. So they can say they had boxing champ Brook Marshall bent over something. It comes with being a slave though; the freemen have all the power. Whether its being f*cked or doing the f*cking, he is being used. He hates it, and the anger shows because he once could make his own choices.
In walks in Nathaniel Bishop, looking all businessman and suave. Brook thinks its gonna be just another one of those tricks, where a man can say he had boxing heavy weight Brook Marshall at his mercy, but both men get so much more. There is sex, but with Nathaniel it’s a lot more than just f*cking there is an underlying of I will let you Brook conquer me. Nathaniel also comes in the form of hope and equality; he treats Brook like so much more than property and offers him his life back.
The awesomeness is strong in this book, whether you are a fan of boxing or not you will be standing your ass up and cheering. Brooklyn Marshal is one of the most snarkiest bastard you can’t help loving. No matter his I don’t give a feck attitude, you can tell he cares deeply. Mr Vonoiv really captures the human behaviour quite well; the animals some become when they have power over someone. Some of these characters are so two faced its ridiculous, but you can’t hide behind masks forever. They try to break Brooklyn, and it becomes clear that you can’t keep a fighter down. He always comes back up swinging and its total KO, because my Brook has found his something worth fighting for.
For all that is sweet and holy, this book is incredibly sexy without all the fluff and stuff. I am in some serious love with Brook, he oozes sexuality and I you just wanna get him naked. I have a huge character crush on him, just seeing him naked with some boxing gloves on (ah the imagery). This book is the Brooklyn Marshall show, no character or situation can outshine him. The overall package of this story is a hit, and I recommend you read.
What I really want to say is that “this book is the 'shit' and so is the cover”.
"Funny how the usual niceties like manners and overall courtesy evaporated or become at least optional when slaves were involved".From: Counterpunch
As a reader and a reviewer, I am very easy to please. I think in my whole history of reading M/MMore of my reviews and ramblings atPANTS OFF REVIEWS
As a reader and a reviewer, I am very easy to please. I think in my whole history of reading M/M books I have given a two star rating at least three or four times. As I wrote, I am very easy to please. Therefore, it came as quite a surprise when I found myself disliking everything about Teacher’s Pet(like everything). I am a fan of G.A Hauser, but it seems her books either are a hit or miss for me.
Teachers Pet started out good enough and then turned into a story I cannot even describe without being viciously mean (I won’t be). Jeremy West is a college student getting ready for another year in school. Jeremy is gay, but hasn’t really told anyone, he uses school as a reason to why he doesn’t have a girlfriend. Until he takes some elective courses and the professor, the very male professor captures his attention.
Professor Peter Foster has the attention of all his female students, but it’s the one male student that has caught his eye. Jeremy seems interested and willing, but he is married after all. Even though his wife is a real bitch/gold digger and it’s a marriage he would rather not be apart of. Jeremy is young and attractive and he wants him, so why not have him. It would be a teacher/student relationship, but Peter is willing to risk it for a chance at sweet young Jeremy.
It sounds fabulous and wondrous, and I have been looking forward to reading it so bad. It started out wonderfully but then totally fell apart, because every character is just either too much or not enough. I liked Peter and Jeremy together (somewhat) they have an easy friendship, which I really liked. It’s the relationship aspect of it all that just seems all kinds of phoney. Peter seems to have no clue of what a relationship should be like, and I wanted him to get an opportunity to just be himself and live. He jumps into a relationship with Jeremy, after saying he also rushed into two marriages. Jeremy is believable as the young college student; I am just not in love with his character.
The sex is… I don’t even want to talk about it. Nothing about it felt right, and its coming from one of my favourite tropes (young guy gets poked by older dude) it leaves an ache in my heart. There is not one character I really enjoyed *not one*. I just wanted to love this one but I couldn’t, everything felt very contrived. I am just very disappointed, because it’s a bloody teacher/student hook-up and that’s like my thing. I can’t even bring myself to like it a lot....more
This was one of my least favourite ZAM book ever, and it’s a part of one my fave series. This book had two of my favourite characters from the previous book, like two complete idiots. They were indecisive, contradictory, and spoiled children. I could not wrap my mind around it, and when they both acted like douches to each other, with a few words all would go back to normal.
If you have no clue about the St Nachos series, I absolutely recommend that you get to know this little town. The characters are quirky, and the food sounds awesmazing (I was constantly hungry reading this book). This series is the epitome of what ZAM does best. Though I did have my issues with this story in particular, the series is not to be missed. Cam and Daniel had me a drooling from the previous book, and I was impatiently waiting for their story. I knew it was gonna be hot, and about a man healing and finding love. We got all that, but we also got shallow Cam and Daniel with their multiple personalities.
Daniel the product of a bad home life has built his way up to owning his own company and having money. He lives to protect his little brother, but over the years, he has forgotten about others in order to make a disastrous marriage work. The marriage is over and Daniel has decided to be true to himself and come out to the world. Now he’s man whoring himself around town, and he’s hardly a good person. He lies, and is unable to find happiness in anything. A car wreck has left him without the use of one of his hands, and his pity party is strong. In comes Cam the hot fire fighter with the heart of gold, who can do and say no wrong (gimme a break). Their relationship was never the best, but a friendly relationship begins that leads to more.
The inconsistencies in this book is strong, I just do not understand what happened to my Cam and Daniel. At times, I really liked them, and at most, I wanted to slap them in the head. Daniel facing his issues was a good thing, but everyone around him kept making him the bad person, as if he was this horrible guy. Honestly, I have yet to see this horrible person, sketchy and unsure yes, but horrible? Not even, close. His life has shaped him and he has every right to be wary. He is not a perfect person, and I sorta hated how they expected so much from him.
The sex between Daniel and Cam is desert storm hot, but the relationship part is a great big pot of 'you have got to be fecking kidding me'. They both have no idea what they want. One minute its not working but the next love is blooming like roses in a freaking garden. I yelled a few times 'just make up your mind already', and just when you think all is well, either Cam or Dan pulls a douche bag move. I had high hopes for them, though not completely disappointed I am also less then impressed.
Overall, I really enjoyed going back to St.Nacho’s and hearing about everyone from previous books. I liked many elements of the story (laughed my ass off a few times), but disappointed in the characters. Even though I got my HEA, I am still waiting for Daniel to bolt. In the upside, this might be the dirtiest ZA book ever; I was like “WHAT”, some very unexpected hotness. My final thoughts are that this series is not to be missed, and though it seems as if I am just hating, I honestly liked the book just wondering what the hell happened to the characters. ...more
All the ways I was excited to read this one. A book from one of my favourite authors, and about the genre she is excellent at. I was like “bring on the ménage a trois” halfway through the book I was literally in tears of frustration. With all honesty I thought ‘Kate Sherwood did not write this’ there is just no freaking way. I am supposed to be loving the hell out of this book that was shelved as ‘Can’t wait to read and lose my pants’. I just wanted to cry. Please don’t misunderstand Kate is an excellent writer; I just did not love this one.
Mark and Alistair is a couple with an open relationship. Mark is a pilot and is frequently away from home, so it was decided up on that he would sow his wild oats when he is away. Though one condition is very clear, it will only be for sex and both will come home to each other. I totally didn’t mind that, both men were aware of it so it was just apart of the story. Mark who is recently gay, and divorced his wife to finally be truly happy. He is still taking baby steps to living life as a gay man. The journey hasn’t been easy, but he is coping and coming into his own.
When Mark decides to hit up a gay club, looking for a little action. He realized that the club scene isn’t for him and he feels like a fish out of water. The night isn’t a bust, and Mark hooks up with a hot little thing. The sex is mind blasting, but the run in they both have with Alistair isn’t (seems Alistair was away and Mark brought his hook-up home to play). The hot little thing turns out to be Tyler a stable boy/horse trainer (isn’t that just so cliché). When his horse is injured he once again runs into an awkward situation with Alistair yet again. It doesn’t remain awkward and uncomfortable for long and Tyler becomes the centrepiece for both Mark and Alistair.
All right folks, it sounds interesting and exciting, and it sorta is, but my ire lies in the fact that Alistair/Mark become skeevy. They both swore to never mix feelings with sex but throughout the whole book, Tyler becomes an obsession for both men. I thought they were supposed to be in total love with each other, but I never once felt it. All thoughts were on stable boy Tyler. Ahem, Tyler he is a piece of work. He just came on to both men like white on rice, not wanting to cause ‘problems’ but did so at every turn. I could not love him or even like him, the smooth talking f*cker.
I will end this one now, and as you can see all characters are on my chopping block. Even at their HEA, I was cursing them to hell and high-water. Kate is a talent but this book did not sit well in my heart, still love her writing style and I don’t doubt her skill in writing a wicked ménage. If you are a fan, please do pick up a copy of this book; who knows you might love it....more

Really am happy how it ended, but I am not completely satisfied. I would love to see these very sexy men again, and I would love for Dan to finally remove this stick from his ass(no pun intended).
I am still deeply in love with Evan, even though he is one jealous motherfecker but he is "oh so delicious". This menage is realistic and shows the work it takes to make a relationship with three people work. I hope my goodreads friends go and pick up this series and enjoy it as much as I do.

THE COVER- Really goes with the story. Horses play a huge part of our main characters life. He is also a dark horse of a character, he just comes out of nowhere. You love him or hate him. Also it’s clear that there will be three men involved, and that alone captures your attention.
My first book by Kate Sherwood and it came on strong, very strong. I had so many emotions reading this book, mostly I was a blubbering mess; with tears streaked face. The level of pain in the first 150pages of this book left me with a migraine, and so hopelessly in love. All I am saying is if you want a moving story, this is the book for you.
Dan is a horse trainer and a good one, living day to day is hard though. It has been a little over a year since an accident cost him to lose his lover. Now Justin lies in a coma, just a body without life. Dan is hopeful that he will one day wake up. However, he has to be realistic and face the facts Justin is gone. When a rich family comes to his barn, to check out buying a few horses, Dan has no idea that they are about to change his life. Justin’s parents decide that the next time he has a heart attack or seizure; they will not allow the doctors to bring him back. Dan can’t deal with that information and he becomes resentful and a bit of an asshole. The days leading up to Justin’s funeral will be a test to Dan’s sanity.
Dan finds strength in the least likely person and let’s say that Dan gets a new job, and the opportunity to begin a new life. Because in walks Evan and Jeff, though Dan is initially attracted to Jeff in the beginning he realizes that, he has a lot of love to give. Dan gets invited in a relationship that would involve all three and the next 150pages becomes all kinds of effed up, in the best way possible. Its really not a sexual realtionship until later, but these three are so connected that its clearly a relationship.
These characters have no idea what they are doing, Jeff and Evan is an established couple and inviting Dan is something they both want. I guess this where I became pissed, I have a love/hate relationship with Dan. He is endearing but he also is a bit of an asshole. His procrastination when it came to both Evan and Jeff sort of pissed me off. I hated that he was so easy with Jeff, but found it so difficult to accept Evan. Evan and Jeff are not safe from my wrath. I hated how they discussed Dan, and when they settled on a decision, they would include him. It was like a couple and a third, not a relationship involving three people.
Its no quick HEA, and really there isn’t one, but it’s a slow progression of a relationship that needs building, and even though I was irked most of the time I freaking loved it. I am all kinds of in love with Evan, he makes me happy. Jeff is just a little too perfect for my taste, and I hated his goody two shoes character, I just hated it. Dan is in a league of his own when you think messed up. I can’t blame it on his losing his partner and more on the fact that he has always been like that. He is offended easily, quick to jump to conclusions, and assumes way too much. Seriously, I had problems with Jeff and Dan; those fucking two pissed me off. I had problems with Jeff and Evan, Dan and Evan. Mostly I am just pissed cus I wasn’t there.
Sex is long way off in this book, frankly; it was well developed. Sexual tension plays a key role, and I love sexual tension. It had the right amount to make you wanna chew your fingers off.
There is so much left to say but frankly, my fingers need a break. I do recommend this book, its a beautiful story, with real characters, and horses with some serious personality. Kate Sherwood is an author to look out for, gotta give props to someone who can write a character who is dead in most of the book, but makes you love him. Thank goodness, there is a sequel otherwise; I would be cursing Dan all the way, to wherever he came from.
Bareback is just one of those books that leaves you thinking about it, days after you finished reading it. I was intri ^^ON WITH THE BAREBACKING!^^ 4.5
Bareback is just one of those books that leaves you thinking about it, days after you finished reading it. I was intrigued by the title alone, cus when you think bareback, you think BAREBACK!!
This is all cowboys baby, known for their manly horse riding skills, and their bull/cow rounding up smash down. It’s a little worrisome to be a gay man in this testosterone field of work. That’s exactly what both our main characters have to deal with. Jake Taggart keeps his sexuality to himself, cus its nobody’s business who he wants to f*ck. Foreman on a ranch he is liked and respected. There is only one person who seems to be blowing all his hard work at remaining invisible to hell and high-water, Tornado a.k.a Tor. The man gets under his, and Jake feels like he could crawl into his, all that aside he really can’t stand the other man.
Tor wants Jake something fierce and it’s hard to tell if the other man wants him. When a storm passes through the town, both men get the break they need to come together, and its hot, wet, and angry (yum). A tentative relationship begins, and soon it becomes a full-blown hot man/man ranch sex, open fields and intense feelings. I would have liked to walk in on the *accidently* a time or two, heheheh.
I thought it would be one of those smooth sailing books, but its filled with emotion, and a shocker of a lifetime. I never saw it coming people, and quite frankly I was super pissed. Jake and Tor are so flawed, yet the feelings and the relationship they had with each other was just so beautiful. I was so invested with them as characters that I also felt the blow down in my bones. I just was *SHOCKED* out of my mind. It was something that bothered me to the end, and days after. I also disliked that Jake felt it was somehow his fault for Tor being a bastard. There is not one person deserving of something like that, and he had the balls to lye beside Jake everynight. No one derserves that.
If you wanna know what I am talking about, you should definitely give this book a try. It’s so very hot and raw, and all my feelings for guys in jeans and horseback came gushing out. I loved Jake, he is so gloomy, his past should have shaped him to be a horrible person, yet he is sweet and cares deeply for those around him. Tor, I liked a lot but after what he did, his status is below the 50% mark.
So in the wise words of my book character soul mate Darien Hughes “On with the barebacking”. I really liked this book!
SIDE HOTNESS- A hot scene of four guys, "FOUR MEN" naked with each other. YUMMY!!!
*Hardly any spoilers, but damn most of you read it anyways*
Another BDB book has come and gone, and what a book it was. ^^WHAT AN UNLEASHING IT WAS!^^
*Hardly any spoilers, but damn most of you read it anyways*
Another BDB book has come and gone, and what a book it was. I will say honestly, I was not in love with this book. Totally boning for the characters, but not all weak in the knees for the story. I always love to be reacquainted with the men of the brotherhood, but it seems there is an added brother I did not know about (will discuss later). I will have to break this one down cus there is just so much to freaking write, so freaking much.
So we met good old Payne in the last book Lover Mine, she is the sister of my main man Vishous, the daughter of the Bloodletter and the mother of the vampire race, The Scribe Virgin aka *Bitch Face*. So she injured her back and she needs surgery fast, here comes the one and only Manny the human doctor (and I say human lightly).
Payne and Manny- From the get go, sparks are flying and feelings are coming out strong. I am talking territorial Manny, all she’s “mine”, and the dark spices scenting the air and shit. Payne is captivated by her healer and it’s apparent to all that feelings are running deep. Only one problem Manny is human, and that my friend is a no, no. So they pull the mind erase trick, but eventually they will need him again and feelings between the two will become deeper.
I really loved Manny; he’s like my Butch. I love the attitude and I like how he handles Vishous. He’s so down True. Payne is alright as a character. I feel like I don’t really know her, and it seems all that remains is that she is just Vishous’s twin. I wish there was more time spent on both Manny and Payne. Since it was their freaking book! In the end, I am kinda disappointed in both.
Vishous and Butch- Vishous was really pissing me off in the beginning of the book. I just can’t deal with a whiny Vishous, it’s just not him. It seemed forced and fake to me. He was just too much too soon, but in the end, I wanted him naked like I always do. I did love the breakthrough between him and Butch. Those two should have ditched their respected mates a long time ago. Once again, this brought to light, that puff the magic Jane and ocean breeze Marissa is suited elsewhere. I just never understood why those two are not together, and I am happy cus I read the Fanfiction True, cus in my head Butch and Vishous bend each other over.
Black Wax- Black Wax, where have you been? You don't call, u don't write, and no appearances on V's chest in like forever. The you show up making an explosion on his c*ck. I applaud you Black Wax.
Saxton (the added brother)- What the flying Feck, this guy I tell ya. He irked me so I wrote him a letter.
To Saxton (The Classy Slut), Do you remember that time when you got beat up and brought to the brotherhood mansion? If no? I sure freaking do, I also remember that vampires heal quickly, and so my question is. Why the hell are you still there? I remember a time when you were lusting after Vishous, and being a big shot lawyer to the glymera. So what the hell happened to your house? I know it’s a scary time with the lessers and all that, but Lash is gone and if the aristocrats of the vampire world are reappearing, my guess is that you could head on home. I am really sick and tired of your Tresseme hair and loafers at first meal. We get it, you and Blay are lovers and all that but man you took it too far and can't he dematerialize to your home. Go home Saxton. In no way do I hate you but you kinda pissing me off with your sexiest man alive routine. You know the Sitch with Blay, let him go.
Thanks Darien of Team QUAY! (And if you don’t understand team Blay +Quinn)
Letter discretely placed on his side of the bed.
Wrath- I was surprised by you for a second there, when you uttered this phrase “I’m also your cocksucking king” to Vishous. If there was cocksucking going on why wasn’t I invited. Did I miss something because I remember clearly it was only you and Beth? Next, my blind king don’t be such a tease. I hear cocksucking and my mind gets away from me.
Blay- Tell Saxton to go home. You guys getting it on does not appeal to me.
Quinn- My poor baby, he freaking broke my heart. Also, tell Saxton to go home. I just can’t believe the growth he had, I am proud of him and I am looking forward to him getting his shit together and backing Blay up in a corner and bending him over. Had a moment when his story line became a little EFFED UP, and if that is gonna be some complications in the future. Then me and the Warden are gonna have to have a serious talk.
To the Prostitute- You very lucky woman. Throe and Xcor at the same time. I hate you, yet I am bowing down to your super awesomeness. Plus, they did deserve that freaking tip, and you should have asked them to kiss. Just throwing it out there. I also wanted a Throe-down, and it Xcor.
Veck- I love you, and I want you, and you intrigue me. I like your bad boy styles and I think you could handle the vampire world. I was kinda hoping you would be in it, but I guess the Warden has other plans for you.
Feelings- Not my fave book in the series, but it was entertaining. I loved how there is now a story of intrigue. The brotherhood and Xcor and his band of bastards. Its gonna get spicy and not dark spices spicy, unless Layla lands her eyes on Xcor. I wish Manny and Payne got more page time, I don’t feel like I know them too well. The serial spin was alright, took up too much time, but I understand why it was needed, and it worked out well. Even though this book was lacking in awesomeness, it creates a setting for some serious epicness ahead. I am hoping the Warden can deliver, and please stick to maybe two story, three the most and not the twenty-five going on in this book.
SideNote- If Manny had orgasm just one more time, I was gonna put his penis to rest. Seriously, you really had all that in you. Needing or not Payne probably got pregnant from default alone. ...more
I really enjoyed Promises, it was such a feel good story, and it’s a book for beginners to the M/M genre. It’s ^^PROMISING YOU A VERY GOOD READ!^^
I really enjoyed Promises, it was such a feel good story, and it’s a book for beginners to the M/M genre. It’s romantic and sweet without all the dick in ass, there is that but just not as crude as I just wrote it.
The book begins with Jared telling you how he meets his best friend and lover Matt. It’s definitely a gay for you story, with Matt being completely straight through out his life. Their relationship is super sweet, and you can see the closeness they share as friends. It becomes clear to Matt, that what Jared feels goes far beyond friendship.
The small town they live in knows about Jared, and sorta accepts it. Matt is the new cop in town, and nothing says macho like COP. So he gets hated on because of whom his friend is. To make his life a little easier he hooks up with the towns 7/11, she’s always open for a little action. When a night of Matt doing a little experiment leads to him realizing a few things about himself, he runs away and avoids Jared. Their friendship is put the test, and Matt has hurt Jared in the worst way. A friend of Jared causes Matt to step up to plate and thus begins a relationship between the two friends.
This story is sweet and realistic, there is no quick “I like having sex with you so now I am gay”. There is a progression of feelings, and it’s wildly romantic. Jared and Matt are good together, and I just really enjoyed reading about them.
The book is soft when it comes to the erotic side, and can be enjoyed by those who don’t want the hardcore man on man. Seriously, sometimes these stories are just so good, but just not all the time. I loved Jared; he is sweet and just an easy character to like. Matt is super adorable, but at times in the book really pissed me off but in the end, he comes through.
^^MONA LISA, SEEMS TO BE GIVING OUT MORE THAN HER SMILE!^^
When I started this series, I freaking loved it. It was a different kind of PNR, and the ^^MONA LISA, SEEMS TO BE GIVING OUT MORE THAN HER SMILE!^^
When I started this series, I freaking loved it. It was a different kind of PNR, and the writing was so fresh and clean. Now, I think this book has taken on a completely new theme. How many men can Mona Lisa sleep with in each book? I am saying this woman is open like a 7/11, coming from the same woman who preached humanity with “I was raised human soooooo… I can only have one lover”. Girl you preaching to the wrong church.
A quick run down, this series is about the Monere children. A world filled with inhuman beings who gather strength from the light of the moon, and they are very matriarchal society. The female run things in this series. So Mona Lisa aka (Mona Loose Legs) was raised human only to later find out she is a queen of the monere and one of the strongest of her people. She gets two lovers, has some run in with an evil bitch and the beat goes on.
In this book, our Mona Lisa has come a long way, her life is still in upheaval and she mourning the death of a lover and my fave character. She has brand new beau who she desires and fears. It seems that they share a past, a very scary one. So that makes it guy number 175 (not the actual amount just my exaggerated estimate). She is mated to the Prince of hell, a man I personally want to get naked with. Just a whole bunch of things, which I hardly cared about. Yet, I did enjoy reading the book; maybe it’s my morbid fascination to see who will next enter the Mona Lisa passage of love.
Where as I loved the first book, this one just seemed like half the unique essence that was book one flew away. I really do think that this book offers up a unique concept in the PNR genre, it’s erotic and sexy. Just seems Mona needs to close those legs up a bit, its getting somewhat old. I have the next book in the series, and I hope it brings back the excitement that the two previous books offered. ...more
