It is easily a ten star novel but we are only allowed five so...
Chief Inspector Gamache and wife have settled into Three Pines as they adjust to their retirements. All the usual friends are there to greet us, the reader, plus, as would be expected, new friends are made.
One new friend, a wee lad, Laurent Lepage is possessing an imagination that knows few boundaries. He adores coming into the village shouting 'Aliens,' or 'lost child,' when he craves attention. Of course, Laurent adores Armand Gamache. The village is tiring of this however, when Laurent comes racing in telling tales of an impossibility. Armand gently says, 'No" and drives the boy home.
When Laurent disappears, Armand must question himself, what if he had listened and followed the boy.
The gentleness of a attention-seeking boy leads us into one of the deepest and terrifying journeys that madness of men can bring.
Again, I bring up the complexity of the characters in this book. We learn new secrets and realize just what happens in the minds of murderers.

After the success, and stress, of the last event, Murder and Mayhem week, Jane is looking forward to the elegance and fun that the Valentine's Day season brings. Not to mention, a planned second dance between herself, and well...that would be giving away one of my favorite scenes, so I shall shush.
Alas, the love theme is tinged with shades of betrayal. Business deals soured, fantasies fall short, romances bloom for some and burst for others. Then the ultimate betrayal is thrust upon the main guest author...Death!
The reader finds themselves swirling upon a ballroom dance floor, oohing over models, tasting the sweetness of homemade chocolates, learning combat training, and a host of other surprises.
This novel is filled with action, suspense, surprises, and yes, romance. The mysteries abound as you are swung back into historical fiction times.
I suggest you keep the novels as these books are definitely books you will wish to re-read! ...more

All three are enjoying a peaceful rest in their Athena, Mississippi home, when suddenly the peace is broken.
The doorbell rings, and upon opening it, the sisters find their rather unlikable sorority sister, Rosabelle pushing her way inside. Not only is Rosabelle apparently seeking asylum with the Ducote sister's, she dramatically states that one of her family is trying to kill her!
No sooner than Rosabelle is settled in the guestroom, than the doorbell rings again! It appears the family wants to keep Rosabelle and her money in their sights! Chaos reigns and this ill-mannered and obnoxious group stresses the sisters to the maximum of their Southern manners. Not to mention the accidental murder?
This book is filled with humor, action, animals, and even a gigolo or two. The sisters Ducote, and the police have their hands full and I truly enjoyed the entire book. ...more

The way Leona treated Rose? Rose is a good woman to forgive her...what? You don't know what I'm talking about? Why, the dead Nanny, the Wedding, Friendships damaged, Charles in town, and did I mention the murder???
This book was so fast-paced that I finished it during one evening. I truly enjoyed it but actually was shocked by some of the happenings.
Ms. Casey knows how to keep this series alive. I can't wait until the next tale comes out!...more

Sabrina Tate has moved back to her Aunt Rowe's Vacation rental cottages in Lavender, Texas. Aunt Rowe who is laid up with a broken leg requires Sabrina's help in managing the cottages. This job also allows Sabrina, an aspiring author, time to focus on her novel. Focusing is a major issue for this naturally curious girl.
While Sabrina was in town, having a coffee, Aunt Rowe's handyman, Thomas comes rushing in with a major cut on his arm and determination upon his face. It seems 'El Gato Diablo' has crossed Thomas' path, and everyone (who is superstitious and Sabrina soon learns that is a good many people,) knows that is a sign of bad luck! Thomas is going to buy traps and that incenses Sabrina who is Not superstitious.
Later, that night, Sabrina takes a break from her writing to go over to Aunt Rowe's house and bake some Pecan Tarts (recipes at the end of the book.) Her attention is diverted by a large black cat running past her. It stopped and Sabrina realized it must be the cat, Thomas was going on about. After talking with the cat, Sabrina realizes it wants her to follow him. Oh no! A man's leg is wrapped around a branch of a tree in the water, and the man is dead!
Now, There is a whale of a lot of details woven around that short description. Who the man is, and the interaction with Sabrina's Aunt, hunky game wardens and more! Not to mention those yummy recipes that our Sabrina bakes to break away from her writing.
This book was a joy to read. It was a true Cozy genre murder. I laughed, I celebrated, I said "oh too bad" Ok, I didn't like the man either. I got involved in the tale.
This was no Bad luck Cat, this is one Good luck Cat who brought me some great luck in reading! ...more
First of all, I read the paperback Mass Trade edition, Secondly, this novel should be rated an "8" rather than an usual "5!"
Dialog, Dialog, Dialog...IFirst of all, I read the paperback Mass Trade edition, Secondly, this novel should be rated an "8" rather than an usual "5!"
Dialog, Dialog, Dialog...If you enjoy fast-paced, snappy lines, frenetic energy in your dialog of a novel, this book is for you! It reminded me of famous lines read by Spencer Tracy, Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwyck and others of the gilded screens. This novel was driven by dialog.
The tale is of a continued threat from a master and deadly criminal who is either insane, or a genius, or both! 'Unfinished Grave,' is book four in the series 'A Judge Rosswell Carew Mystery."
Judge Rosswell Carew is a Judge in Marble Hills, Mo. The likable Judge is being hunted by a mastermind who is upset by his head drug dealer being killed. He was safely incarcerated, but has broken out and is back on his personal hunt of the Judge and family and friends.
This leads me to discussing the excellent and creative development of the characters in this novel. We are friends (from previous books in the series,) of Ollie, Judge's 'Research Assistant, Candy, Ollie's love, Ferdinand, the Englishman with a Spanish name, Judge's wife, Tina, their baby boy, and more. These characters and the new ones, are multi-faceted. They make you frustrated, caring, anxious, and are filled with humorous personalities. They all have delicious dialog lines to spout at the reader.
The action in this novel will keep you also turning the pages. A peaceful vacation for the Judge ends on page one..."On the day before the first murder..."
I cannot say enough accolades for this tightly written murder mystery which flirts with being a Cozy and Police Procedural at the same time.
The novel is published by Deadly Writes Publishing, LLC. and I can see that I need to learn their titles list!
Read, Enjoy, Laugh and Gasp...this novel is worthy of your time and resources....more

Becca Robins, jam and preserves maker/seller isn't one hundred percent sure of the changes. Food Trucks are going to be tried out to draw in more and new customers. Becca knows that business needs to keep up with the changes of the community, but, she loved the relationships and friendships of the market and wonders how this is going to work out.
Her concerns raise as suddenly her young cousin, Peyton, appears from Arizona as one of the Food Truckers. Peyton comes with baggage in the form of a friend of Becca's, Harry Lindon, a law enforcement officer who is investigating Peyton!
The book opens with an unexpected scene that I won't divulge or it will spoil the impact. Let me just say, this is the best novel in the series to date. It is unpredictable, yet, predictable, yet...full of surprises and was fun to read.
Yes, there is a murder but I'm going to let you read the book to find out who, what, where, and how!
Ms. Shelton also pens another favorite series of mine, The Country Cooking School Mysteries. Worth reading. Both of these series are favorites of mine....more

Tourists flock during the summer days to Broken Rope, Missouri. This is great for the town and for our paranormal amateur sleuths, Betts Winston, and her Grandmother Missouri Anna Winston.
In this fifth volume of 'A Country Cooking School Mystery' series, Ghost trains pull into town, various passengers, train stations and more affect Betts and her Grandmother's days and nights as well. Betts tries to figure out the missing persons and deaths of the visiting ghosts, as well as being thrown head first into a real-time murder!
While the cooking school teaches us delicious vegetable dishes, the aromas of onion, flowers, and Cowboy Jerome's smokiness...keeps Betts alerted.
I enjoyed this novel from page one to the ending. Only complaint is that I would have loved to read an additional 300 pages or more!
Recipes are included at the end of the novel. A terrific murder series!

We have a widow, her son, and a very respected Veterinarian brought to together by circumstances. The gentle love story begins, as the trio begin to respect each other and care for each other. A rather predictable story you think...But, no. This novel is written and driven by another character...a raging wildfire that not only threatens the Vet's ranch, animals, and persons, but the entire town of Rosewood!
The use of description, actions of men, women, children, and beasts as the flames intensify will have you gripped within the pages. There is no wasted dialog or scenes. The writing is tight and descriptive.
As I write this review, my county is fighting a monster of a wildfire known as the Rocky Fire in California. The community, neighboring states, equipment and more made me realize how realistic this novel is.
The romance was natural and truly is 'Love Inspired.'
I love this series and highly recommend it. ...more

Widower and businessman, Morgan Harper is desperately trying to keep his oil company thriving as well as doing all he can for his tiny daughter, Poppy. He needs a new personal assistant and that is a real break for Tessa Pierce who desperately needs to recover from a failed relationship.
The new job includes a small cottage on the grounds of the Harper home. Tessa loves the job and soon begins loving little Poppy.
Now, this book might sound like a gentle, predictable romance, but, as I have found from reading this series, Ms. Winn does not write predictable. This book will have you invested in each and every character within the well-developed plot.
