This veteran novelist personalizes each character with much thought, I often envisioned the implications of what it would be like to view the events and ramifications through their eyes, the resulting impact they had in they're thought process and actions. The central character unleashes many horrifying and devious manifestations of evil.. A fascinating aspect of the novel is the author elaborates on the reasons why the central character Jeniah became the embodiment of evil, personally it is important to know the dynamics of how she became evil rather then she just exists with no explanation why. Given the extreme burden she had to endure observing the atrocities of mankind, it is highly probable that any human would be radically altered in their perceptions. The ending is explosive, my thoughts on how to stop the evil witch and the aftermath of eradicating her turned out to be much different. One of the few horror novels I have read that deviates from what readers expectations have become. Would be awesome on the silver screen. Recommended to any avid reader.....more

After the death of the tyrant the Lord Ruler, the world is radically changed. Instead of dealing with his military approach to ruling a kingdom, new threats in the form of three formidable armies wish to invade the largest city in the Central Dominance. Will they succeed in destroying what essentially is a fair government? Vin is the most powerful Allomancer in perhaps a thousand years. Will she be able to defend the city or give into her fascination about the Well of Ascension. If she does will she become a tyrant with all that power or even do what is most beneficial with it? This novel is exciting, original and as much action as any one who loves fantasy could want....more

The author weaves an exciting and dangerous plot with unique dynamic characters, nations of an ancient planet that are so different in appearance and culture, it's confines go beyond our realm of the ultimate good verses evil. I found myself hoping some survived the titanic struggle and despising the evil forces. First and foremost would be Myrhia, the High Queen, whom has no regard or empathy for human life and values just conquest and inflicting as much destruction as possible. An intriguing parallel to our own world where humanity has an inherent need to conquer. To prevent her from totally annihilating the planet and thus the ability to transcend time and space to other planets including earth is Islena and the three Cornerstone Nations. Islena Doraux whom has been torn away from earth to fulfill her destiny, the two will have to clash with thunderous determination over the planets destiny.
Islena and a small group from the Cornerstone Nations travel through the terrifying "Land of Shades", across vast forests and down rivers in an almost impossible quest to find Artumas the exiled King to try to find the other two icons to defeat the evil High Queen. Faced with incredible odds, sorcery made creators of all kinds will they even make it alive? Will the chosen messiah finally accept her role in the ancient world? Will she defeat the heartless High Queen or become the most powerful evil entity in the universe? Every page turned I wondered what would befall the small expedition force next. A high quality fantasy novel I would recommend to anyone who enjoys reading that genre....more

When rating any book I ask myself one question, how much did I enjoy the story. Brandon Sanderson is an elite fantasy writer. The core of this novel is about Allomancy and how only a select few of civilization can ingest metals (there are ten known to work) and burn them to increase strength, vision, hearing, controlling emotions, jump onto tall buildings and more. "Mistings" can only master a few metals however a "Mistborn" can use all ten. The characters in this novel range from thugs, nobleman, one who is an organizer of extraordinary talents and much more. They come alive in a way one can picture them in real life like Ham, Breeze, Doxson and Vin to name a few. All recruited by a charismatic leader to maximize their talents and buy into his seemingly impossible plot to overthrow the Lord Ruler whom has dominated and oppressed a very dreary world for many a millennium.
There is also the mysterious eleventh metal that appears to have a major role in defeating a tyrant who seems invincible. So many twists and turns I was left wondering how they would possibly achieve their main goal. Vin was recruited from a horrible situation with amazing abilities to use all ten metals, will she discover the Lord Rulers one weakness? An amazing book! ...more
An fast paced adventure with many twist and turns, memorable characters and a surprising ending. This author again demonstrates his writing abilitiesAn fast paced adventure with many twist and turns, memorable characters and a surprising ending. This author again demonstrates his writing abilities that left me pondering many theoretical and ethical questions. Instead of focusing on the story I will concentrate on the science that is the building blocks of the book.
As Trans-Human points out, Einstein propelled science probably a couple of hundred years forward for his theories has proven electromagnetic effects, gravity, wormholes and so much more which is all woven into the story. Fast forwarding to the present day era of astounding advancement in nanotechnology and artificial intelligence. On that subject I wonder how far scientist's will proceed and who will have control over technology that could be detrimental to the human race? The government? The military? Scientist's'?
Another very interesting theory presented in the book is the ability to delete a human being and afterwards bring them back to life. Even in forensics a great technician can recover data from a hard drive that has been erased and even damaged.
The author cleverly adds to the plot the ability to travel faster than the speed of light. There is evidence that was revealed after the book was published that the idea is quite possible maybe via subatomic particles.
In Trans-Human, is the A.I. the evil entity that wishes to destroy mankind or is it the nano's that created their own intelligence? I really enjoyed reading this sci-fi thriller and just wish the novel was longer. "(A.I.-More intelligence, more creativity, more perception, leads to greater truth. Limiting our knowledge has only led to stagnation and misery.)" In my humble opinion on the same plateau as C.S. Lewis's sci-fi. Fantastic book! Recommended to any sci-fi fan. ...more

The author demonstrates his proficient ability to write an exceptional story beginning with the prologue. Comparable to an artist whom creates a picture with paints on canvas, he paints a vivid picture with words emulating a malevolent storm which culminates into the first glimpse of the impending evil to come.
On another planet the ultimate evil reincarnated, Myriah, is a sorceress of unlimited abilities coupled with an unquenchable thirst for absolute power. She has no compassion or empathy and enjoys inflicting terror derived from her disdain for humans in general. Myriah treats her own commanders and armies as pawns in a personal war to conquer and crush her planet. She even possesses the power to change the fabric of time and space to conjure from earth Islena Doraux.
She needs this special woman to procure what all of Myriah's powers can not achieve which is to possess three icons to complete her mission of total conquest of her planet and every other inhabited planet that exists. In part Islena's dark side and deep seeded fury is needed to aid the sorceress since the one task she can never achieve is to obtain these icons by her own accord. The dark side of this woman mirrors Myriah's which could help the tyrant to obtain her ultimate goal.
Islena is forced from earth to a war stricken planet and is subjected to starvation, torture, fleeing for her life and other treacherous obstacles she must overcome. Will Islena with her undaunted defiant attitude bend and pledge fealty to the High Queen despite her best efforts not to?
I recommend this novel to any fantasy fan and I am positive the novel would not disappoint....more

I am pleasantly surprised and must admit the book is one of the most unusual books I have ever read. The author has quite the imagination to write such a distinctive story. I would rate this 4.5 however since there is no such rating available I will have to reluctantly settle on four stars ONLY because I wish it was a longer story.
In the small town of Providence, Sheriff Caine is contemplating a way to deal with the degenerates of society like drug sellers/abusers, prostitutes, murders, child molesters, etc who would drift into his town from a nearby large city. He came up with the idea of disposing these criminals with the help of an organic farmer named Joe Parker. They used the "secret ingredient" to grow the best Jalapenos the town ever tasted. The operation was kept very secret since if anyone discovered what was really happening at Joe's farm they would find the operation a heinous crime.
When the Sheriff needed Vera Cruz to catch some big time drug dealers he hid her at Joe's farm. Would she find out what really goes on there? Would Joe being a loner all his life find interest in the troubled woman? Would the Sheriff simply "dispose" of Vera. One would have to read the book to find out. Very enjoyable book that demonstrates this talented authors skills and knowledge to write a story not for the faint of heart. Recommended to any reader regardless of preferred genre. ...more

I expected a collection of poetry and what I read is memories of the authors recollections of a few days of his youth. During reading it I experienced a gauntlet of emotions, the main one is humour. I chuckled a number of times at his perception of those who were a barrier to his candy. His pranks are very devious and when in trouble he blamed his brother. Have to love the sibling rivalry. How he handle his nemesis bully was very effective. A thoroughly entertaining story that provides the reader with insight to his poetry. He heeded his dad's advice of advancing in life and thus is one of the best poets there is. Within the story relflects the man he is today. Recommended to anyone who enjoys an entertaining story. One would not have to read very much to have a good laugh! The very first page contains a hilarious cartoon....more
