Of Love and Distance is set in India and the U.K. It's a story about love, cultural barriers, overcoming adversity and strength of spirit.
Lisa is a journalist tasked with interviewing a movie star (who also happens to be her teenage crush). Whilst on their way to the studio they are kidnapped and held for ransom (Lisa being caught up in it because she happened to be there). The relationship between Lisa and Robert develops from this point.
The experience for both of them is terrifying and, of course, traumatizing. The second part of the book explores the psychological implications and struggle of the main character, Lisa. The reader gets an insight into Indian culture as Lisa's perspective is of course, deeply rooted in her own culture. The author describes the after-effects of trauma all the while keeping hope alive throughout the book.
I would like to warn readers that there are themes explored in this book that are not for the faint hearted.

Martha is the wild child of the Blue dynasty. She's like an enigma wrapped in a riddle. But not all is as it seems. Joaquin, the hero, is a tortured soul. He, like our heroine, has something to prove, if only to himself. Their relationship was broken in the past. They must make some difficult choices in the present but make them they will and always on their own terms.
This story has many different layers. The characters are very well written. They are real, they are raw, as are their emotions. I loved them both. I was rooting for them all the way. It was a real trip reading on to see how it would all come to a head.
Lisa Marie has a fabulous writing style. It is modern, flows easily and is a pleasure to read.
A truly wonderful, very enjoyable read. Highly recommended!

Michael Atma gives the reader powerful insights and uses his own personal experiences as examples. In every chapter there are 5 minute exercises that you can choose to do each day. This is excellent for everyone, especially in these times when most people are time-poor. Committing to five minutes per day is all it takes to begin making changes that will enhance all areas of your life. While reading this book for review I noticed changes in my own mindset – positive changes, changes I liked.
This is the first book by Michael Atma I have read and I will definitely be looking out for more of his inspiring work. I highly recommend his latest book.

When the inventor of Lucifer 113 goes missing, it’s believed that Patient Zero will never be discovered… until Patient Zero goes on a pre-conceived rampage, infecting victims outside Stebbins, Pennsylvania, and the believed containment area. Who is this Patient Zero, and what is his motivation for infecting the world with a man-made virus tweaked to turn the living into the walking, eating dead?
Jonathan Maberry’s characters are cutting-edge and true-to-life, trying to stay alive in the situations they are placed in. Some are likeable and some, not so much, but all are typical and believable… just what you’d expect in small-town America. All doing their best to escape the effects of a terrible, rampaging disease that mutates the dead and re-animates them as monsters.
Maberry’s apocalyptic scenario is frightening to the tenth power and the ‘creep’ factor is off the charts. To say his vision of the future of mankind is too close for comfort is understating the obvious in this horrifying tale that just keeps on coming with hit after hit. Truly, a brilliant look into the all-too possible future of the human race.

The abbies are coming through the gates in droves and nothing can be done to stop them. THE LAST TOWN, the third and final book in the Wayward Pines s The abbies are coming through the gates in droves and nothing can be done to stop them. THE LAST TOWN, the third and final book in the Wayward Pines series is a stunning ending to an electrifying series by author Blake Crouch.
Wayward Pines… the last bastion of civilization. Four-hundred citizens have just found out the secret to their existence, and the horrible truth of their situation… their lives in the hands of a madman. Their small paradise is about to be transformed into a Hell-on-Earth, so perilous, they will probably all die horrible deaths at the hands of the abbies… undead, zombie-like creatures with great strength and speed, that are now streaming into their town and eating their way through the populous. Previously held at bay by high, strong, electrical fences, the gates are now opened by the hand of their creator, and death is everywhere. Their only hope may be in the form of Ethan Burke… the ex-Secret Service agent turned Sheriff of Wayward Pines.
Powerfully told with break-neck pacing, this story is all action and speed, while still being told in an economically descriptive way that puts Crouch ahead of the pack. The characters are humanly flawed, but each has a story to tell, which adds to the realization and unimaginable horror. Crouch’s writing style is wickedly appealing and makes the entire book unique and difficult to put down.
This book, being the last in a series, gave me enough background to understand the intent of the author and story, while not weighting me down with too much previous detail…. A credit to Crouch’s storytelling moxie. The ability to bring a reading front and center in a story like this, with only a brief hint at previous installments is a feat most authors don’t master easily, but Crouch is on the mark with this one.
An outstanding completion to a most awesome series, THE LAST TOWN will put you right in the middle of the grizzly action and absolute terror… and who would want to be anywhere else?

Graham Brown and Spencer Andrews have created a new kind of scary with “Shadows of the Midnight Sun,” and it is more frightening with each turn of the page. This story takes the reader on a fearfully fascinating search for knowledge and redemption by one who is doomed to an eternity of soulless damnation. Through the streets of New York City, Cologne, Germany, and New Orleans, the authors have created a new kind of terror and set the story around him and his battle for forgiveness.
The writing is flawless and surges along, effectively putting the reader on the raw edge of chaos as the characters fight to save themselves from an ancient evil that threatens them all. The story is a fresh take on an old theme and is bound to be a crowd-pleaser, with all the dark, ominous horror that one would expect from this very awesome writing team. Brown and Andrews have penned the beginning salvo of a series that will take your breath away and have you stalking the local book store for the next installment.

Every spring he’d pack his wife and kids off to the grandparent’s, and then… he went hunting. Not for wild game or trophy heads for his wall. No, not Decatur. He hunted something much more interesting… innocent, young women, kidnapped, raped, beaten, and set free, to run for their lives on a woody, deserted island in the middle of Resurrection Bay. These women were his sport, and his favorite game, until he kidnapped the wrong young woman.
Based on the true-life events of the most famous serial killer case in Alaska’s history, “Resurrection Bay” is a story of murder, depravity, and insanity, but also, a tale of revenge at its most elaborate and pre-meditated. This story has it all.
Written in two parts, and told first from the view point of the hunter, and then from that of the hunted, RESURRECTION BAY will enthrall the reader with its masterful plot and original voice. Warned to leave it alone, Garth's knows he's onto something. Convincing the other partners of the firm, however, proves to be more difficult until a case of fraud from inside the company is discovered and then, one by one, the partners are being murdered.

Goliath… the gargantuan hero of the Philistine army whose very name leaves the bravest warrior trembling in his armor and wetting his loincloth… a warGoliath… the gargantuan hero of the Philistine army whose very name leaves the bravest warrior trembling in his armor and wetting his loincloth… a warrior since birth… son of a god… slayer of kings, men, and beasts… champion to all who beheld him.
PHILISTINE is an epic fantasy tale of the giant who became a hero to his race and a scourge to those who would try to rule over him and his kind. This action story is a bit different from those Bible tales we have heard before. Goliath is still the champion of the Philistine army, but in this telling, he lives to fight any and all who would try to kill him or enslave his people. Tasked by kings to expand their rule, Goliath must face all who would confront him, be they diabolical priests, evil gods, fanciful demons or mortal men. He must champion over them all even though he knows that death in battle will claim him someday. These exploits are the stuff of PHILISTINE.
Told with absolute realism and set down in the tongue of the day, the character of Goliath is strong beyond measure and invincible to all. His youth, spent in tyrannical training by those jealous of his parentage, is glimpsed by the reader through Goliath’s own tales told to those around him. His wisdom is seen through stories he tells of past battles and fallen comrades. His absolute knowledge that he is invincible, but that he will one day be bested and fall in battle, is what his life is destined for and that is how he prefers it.
Shrewsbury has written a tale of war and warriors, in a world long past, but more like the present than the reader may at first, realize. The addition of characters along the way, keeps the story fresh and the battles raging along nicely. And who doesn’t love a great battle for action and blood-letting realism? Goliath’s character is all-encompassing, powerful, intelligent and maybe a little bit bored with it all, but the story never stops entertaining as Shrewsbury pours on the evil bad guys and demonic minions and monsters, to keep our hero mowing them down in true fantasy fashion. This story leaps from the pages and will have the reader up all night, hating the meanies and rooting for the good guys.
Excitement, adventure, debauchery, and battle after battle punctuated with realism, and true to life writing at its best… this is what the reader will find in PHILISTINE. Steven Shrewsbury is a master crafter of worlds and heroes in battle, and PHILISTINE is THE epic fantasy adventure of 2014.

Ryan has written a masterpiece thriller that will eat away at your psyche and have you cringing at every turn of the page. His storyline is exceptionally frightening with all the paranormal darkness and unseen evil the reader can handle. His characters have that ‘flawed but human’ trait that gives them weight and makes them come alive on the page.

Chase discovers that the professor could have vital information as to the location of the most important archeological discovery of modern times… the bones of Jesus Christ. He sets off on a search to recover the professor and locate the bones, before someone beats him to it or kills him first.
Zandri has brought back that wonderful ‘quest’ story that keeps the reader alert and pinging with anticipation from beginning to end. His ‘Chase Baker’ character is cocky, smart, and multi-talented, but with that brotherly quality that reminds you of a best friend in school. These are the types of characters we remember and follow, and Zandri does them with flair, along with non-stop action and a surprise ending. What thriller reader could not love that?

In this new assignment, Scot is wearing a different hat… that of detective rather than Special Forces operative, and this fact may have many thinking that Harvath is considering slowing down a bit. In fact, there are a few passages in which Harvath considers ‘scaling back’ may be in his not-too-distant future, along with a possible switch to the corporate side of the famed Carlton Group.
After Carlton, Harvath, and several other top operatives in the Carlton Group are targeted for assassination, with several operatives being lost, the Group loses its primary Defense Department contract. This makes it necessary for them to take on any and all comers to re-coup their loses and get back in the game.
Enter Monroe Lewis, COO of the Federal Reserve, with a rather sticky situation. The head of the Reserve has died and the five contenders for his spot have been kidnapper, with one found murdered. Harvath is tasked with finding the other four before they too are killed.
This newest thriller from Thor will uncover the real truth about the Federal Reserve and its dealings, and educate the public as to the true nature of this, the most secretive organization in America. One which pretends to be part of the United States government, but with immeasurable power and non-accountability to the government or the people.
Mr. Thor has done his homework, uncovering a serpent in the garden of our government, and has penned a scenario that could easily come to pass. With his ever-flawless character development, story structure, and attention to detail, he has once again written a frightening and controversial novel, causing some sleepless nights for this reviewer.

It has BOTH, a super computer and a planned trip to a far, distant world. But, then the story starts moving along and the ‘scary’ really begins.
'Ike’ Eisenbraun is asked to join a team of would-be space travelers, before the start of their trip, to ferret out a psychopath in the group. Little does he know that the psychopath he is seeking is the super computer that he, himself invented. Slapped into a cryo tube against his will, Ike is taken back in time… or is it forward in time, to a place so unrecognizable, he is shocked to find he is actually still on earth, but millions of years into the future. Ike must figure out how to save himself as well as what’s left of the human race.
For this reader, Alten’s newest novel is reminiscent of H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Rice Burroughs, with strange creatures, inhospitable terrain, and danger at every turn. The evolutionary representations of future creatures are both far out, and at the same time, logical. The writing is fabulously descriptive and imaginative… two qualities that shine through all of Alten’s works.
THE OMEGA PROJECT is a pure adrenaline rush that made me hold my breath and hold on tighter as Alten lays it all out for the reader. No sci-fi lover will want to miss this one. I may have to dust off my copy of MEG and re-read it, just to keep the magic going.
Right on the mark and well worth the time, THE OMEGA PROJECT is easily a 5 spider read and Alten has another winner.

Tough-as-nails bounty hunter, Alexandra Poe has a good reason to take on a job for Stonewall International, an agency that hunts down and captures fugitives from justice. That good reason is a chance to find her father more than ten years after he disappeared from her life, abandoning her and her brother.
With her mother killed in a terrorist attach and her brother in a mental facility, Alex is desperate to find her father and to know why he left them. She accepts the mission to be inserted into one of the most notoriously brutal women’s prisons in the world in order to pull out another female fugitive with information the agency needs. The woman also has information Alex must have in order to find her father.
Joined by her bounty hunting side-kick, Deuce, and her ex-army compatriot, Cooper, Alex goes into full kick-ass mode to get the mark out of the prison before she can be taken out by opposing forces.
Battles and Browne have created a female protagonist who can out-fight and out-think the ‘baddies’ as well as any man, and can do it looking good. Alex Poe is beautiful, tough, and able to dispatch bad guys with all the flair of a female ‘James Bond’. This story will keep the reader on the razor edge for hours of tense, nail-biting excitement.

5 spiders and well earned. If you are an action/adventure junkie like me, you cannot go wrong with The Emerald Scepter.

Erin Kelly has written three acclaimed, psychological thrillers, The Burning Air, being the third.
The MacBrides are the perfect family…or are they? Secrets cannot remain secrets forever and one seemingly insignificant lie told by the family matriarch, Lydia, takes the family down a path of destruction that could tear them apart forever, while destining one boy to a life filled with hatred and revenge.
This story, told from several different viewpoints, takes the reader through the intertwining lives of members of the MacBride family and a young boy named Darcy Kellaway. It begins in the present as Lydia writes her confession with all the intent of destroying it, but death claims her before she can. The reader is introduced to the members of the MacBride family and is given their backstories, each member having their individual trials and tribulations in life.
Then enters Darcy, whose story begins in 1996 with a devastating slight by the then-headmaster of Saxby Cathedral School, Rowan MacBride, the patriarch of the family. Darcy is rejected by the headmaster for a spot at the prestigious school, and the boy and his mentally unstable mother are devastated.
Darcy begins to plot his revenge on the family, which includes a beating administered to Felix MacBride that claims one of his eyes. His life becomes a series of events that include lies, deception, abduction, and murder—all of which Darcy feels the MacBrides deserve for Lydia’s part in his life’s downfall.
Twists and turns and nothing is what it seems in the culminating chapters and Erin Kelly makes the reader feel all of the pain, suffering, and psychological trauma of every character. The writing is flawless and the story is spot-on in The Burning Air. If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, Erin Kelly has written another fabulous story that should not be missed. The master, James Rollins, with some help from Rebecca Cantrell, who, I'd be willing to bet, introduced the Sanguines to the mix, have penned a fabulous story with all the action, intrique, suspense, religion, and vampires the reader can handle.
"Religion & Vampires?", you ask.
I can't say enough good things about The Blood Gospel. The story flowed well and the action never stopped. The characters are a fantastic mix that really worked for the story. The religious aspects were well researched and believable, and the vampires were just what they should be.
Kudos to Rollins and Cantrell for a job well done and bring on book #2.
Jeremy Robinson has once again, reached into his story-telling hat and pulled out a winning premise and the perfect protagonist to bring it to life.

Lincoln Miller is an ex-Navy SEAL who is now an NCIS special agent. He is sent to an underwater research station to investigate reports of ocean dumping, But, what Miller finds instead, are strange red flakes falling from the sky, millions of dead or dying sea creatures, and most importantly, no oxygen at the surface.
Fearing the worst, Miller makes his way to Miami only to find millions of people dead, while the culprits behind the truth of the falling flakes and their plan to annihilate all of mankind are still at work. He also finds a young girl in a hospital and together, they make a hasty getaway to Washington, DC.
Tasked by the President with stopping the global chaos that will take place in seven days, Miller is joined by a Czech conspiracy theorist/cowboy, and a Nazi scientist’s granddaughter. The three must track down the source of the red death and the homicidal mastermind from the past who is once again reigning terror upon the entire world.
Robinson has done a fantastic job with the characters in this story. Miller is the perfect AJ-squared away ex-Navy SEAL with a past that demands his participation in the story. Elizabeth Adler is easily likeable, but somewhat suspect right up to the end, and Milos Vesely is fabulously funny, but also clever and crafty. This trio works, and Robinson has made this non-stop action adventure, believable and harrowing.
Crisp, fresh and scary as Hell, SecondWorld should be at the top of your reading stack. Jeremy Robinson has joined the ranks of ‘my favorite authors’ with this one. Five spiders for SecondWorld.
