Now, after reading it, I know why, this book was AMAZEBALLS. I literally could not put this book down and even ignored sleep to finish it (I had to be up at 7 AM to get my kids ready for school....lol). This is my first Tijan novel but it definitely won't be my last (I already have my eye on a few others). I really enjoyed the fact that this wasn't your run of the mill Stepbrother romance story (which don't get me wrong I do enjoy) it may seem to start out that way but then segues into something much more compelling.
Summer Stoltz is a beautiful girl who doesn't always see that for herself. Her high school crush Kevin Matthews, whom all the girls want to be with (and most of them have), ends up becoming her stepbrother. Talk about awkward family dinners. Summer finds it hard to turn off her feelings for Kevin, even after he goes off to college. Summer can't wait to graduate so she can follow Kevin and finally make her dream of being with Kevin a reality. Once at college, Summer's rose colored glasses, where Kevin is concerned, start to show cracks and his true self is finally revealed to her. Enter tall, dark, and handsome Caden Banks, well known man on campus who rubs Summer the wrong way upon first meeting him. To add insult to injury, Summer soon learns that Caden is in the same fraternity as her stepbrother Kevin.
Caden Banks is a man of few words and even fewer people he would consider a good friend. He is a well respected member of the fraternity Alpha Mu and shows up to all places and events like he should but manages to find a way to slink off and do his own thing. Enter Summer Stoltz, a freshman who happens to be the stepsister of Kevin Matthews, his hated fraternity brother. For some reason there is just something about Summer that has him second guessing his first impression of her.
After a few run in's with each other Summer and Caden develop a close friendship. To say that Kevin isn't happy about this would be an understatement. Caden and Summer both have family history that they both want to keep to themselves. But soon their family drama starts to spill over into their personal lives and affecting everything around them. Then the unthinkable happens and threatens to shatter their whole world apart.
To say any more would ruin this truly phenomenal book. Tijan's ability to tell a story with intriguing and complex characters is flawless. If you are searching for a book that will keep you hooked from start to finish then Anti-Stepbrother is the perfect book. On a scale from 1-5 I must give Anti-Stepbrother a 10. Yes, it is off my scale but for a book to make me give up my precious sleep it must be considered a truly worthwhile book. Whether you are looking for a great college romance, a Stepbrotherish romance, conflict, or just an all-around fantastic read you really can't go wrong with this book. Everyone aged Adult 16/17+** should rush right out to buy Anti-Stepbrother and find out why Summer isn't the only girl who is interested in the Anti-Stepbrother Caden.
**Granted this is a romance novel and there is some sex in it I feel it is tastefully done and I feel a mature 16/17 year old could handle this book....more
