Visiting Cloudburst Falls right now really depends on how much excitement you can take because there is no way you can stop all the adrenaline that will swarm through your body as you join Lila, Devon and her friends in this showdown of epic proportions. The story immediately steps right into some tension filled moments as Lila, Devon, Felix and Deah put their plan to thwart Victor’s evil schemes in motion and the thrills and hair-raising magical events just keep on coming from there. Monsters and magical blades add spice to the story while lots of emotional turmoil flows from the pages adding depth to the story and gripping readers by the heart.
As usual, Jennifer Estep’s fascinating world is so full of vivid details that it makes readers feel as if they are right there in the middle of all the action and suspense which really keeps readers glued to the pages which is a good thing because readers sure don’t want to miss one second of this story. I hope you have kept up with Lila’s adventures so far because this one picks up where the last one left off and it just may be the best one yet, not only does it have an epic battle scene, Lila and Devon’s relationship is progressing adding the romance which I must say I was glad to see since I could just tell that they belong together.
The war between the families explodes in fast paced, action packed and spine tingling suspenseful events that ensured there was no way that I could put story down once I started reading it and I really don’t think that the story could have turned out any other way and it sure couldn’t have ended any better. - Eva...more

Saker, Sorrel, and Ardhi travel back home to discover the shrines have disappeared. Saker’s king has gone mad and it’s up to them to save the land from evil sorcery. With Ardhi’s climbing ability, Sorrel’s magical camouflage, and Saker’s bond with birds, they fight to take their land back from sorcery.
The Fall of the Dagger is the third book in Larke’s The Forsaken Lands trilogy. While Larke finishes the story in a satisfying way, I found the ending and interwoven story lines lacked luster. All the main characters of the novel come together for a final battle with plenty of hijinks, soiled plans, and a few mended hearts.
Saker, Sorrel, and Ardhi come back to find the King has gone straight up crazy pants. The King wants the gift their captain brought for him destroyed and his boat to be put into his service. He has exiled his son and one time heir who is held up in a castle, holding out from bombardment—least they take his new born baby. When the exiled prince realizes that soon something has to give, he tells his wife and guard to take their son and run to his sister’s kingdom. They agree but are captured right away.
Our trio then goes to rescue the princess and baby, after helping out the prince. This brings them into contact with Gerelda, who has a past with Saker. The relationships between characters straighten out in a way most readers will see coming. A lot of romantic interests are put on hold while our trio figures out how to save the day. It also seems like the first time the majority of the main cast shows up at the same place.
There are a few things the novels never explained in the end. Gerelda travels with a boy who can spot sorcerers. The two have been traveling around, killing the ones the find. Gerelda worries about the effect murder might have on her charge, but never worries enough to stop him. The two meet a sorcerer who might not be evil. Born into it, the sorcerers have the potential for evil, but do they have the potential for good? Which became a nagging question for me the rest of the novel.
The world and the characters are still interesting and fun but towards the end the plotline became predictable. A lot of time was spent putting each thread together, and in some ways it felt rushed.
The Fall of the Dagger starts out with a likely and fun escapade. A crazy king, an invisible girl, guards fighting, people yelling, complete and utter chaos. This scene stuck with me, even more than the grand ending of the trilogy. The trilogy as a whole started out strong for me, but the ending fell a little flat. - Elizabeth...more

Accused of starting a fire in her apartment that scars her face horrifically, injurers her boyfriend, and kills a neighbor boy, she ends up in Fellside prison. Wracked with guilt her first impulse is to kill herself by hunger strike. Near death, she meets the ghost of Alex Beech, the boy she is accused of killing.
Fellside is the second book I’ve read by Carey. I read and greatly enjoyed his previous novel, The Girl with all the Gifts. Fellside is dark in tone. The characters are not good or bad but made out of their circumstances. Each person in the novel struggles with a personal ghost of some kind, but it’s Jess that’s talking with a real one. The story dragged at some parts moving from character to character too fast for me to feel sucked in, but despite this I found myself glad I hung on until the end.
Jess meets her ghost, Alex and he gives her something to live for. He then tells her that he doesn’t think it was her that killed him and makes her promise to help him discover his truth. While this is happening, Grace (a prisoner) is moving her drug empire into another cellblock of Fellside and it isn’t long until Jess ends up dragged into this.
Having something to live for, Jess at once starts to figure things out about the Alex Beech who died in a fire. As she puts the pieces together of her ghost and her own past her lawyers work to set her free. On top of this she is pushed into the drug ring that pushes the story to its ending. After she decided not to commit suicide, she made a promise to always do the right thing, but the right thing doesn’t always promise a happy ending.
The side plotlines run together with Jess’s. The doctor at Fellside really brings questions of morality to the forefront of the novel. He’s not the only character that struggles with moral stability, but he might be the most interesting. Blackmailed for an action that was both right and wrong at the time, he can’t see his ghosts but the past haunts him all the same.
Fellside is frightening not because it has a ghost in it. It’s frightening because it deals with bitterness, accusations, and dilemmas that hold lives in the balance. It’s frightening because it asks the reader to put themselves in the place of the characters and made me wonder what I would do differently. It slowed down for me, but it’s a story that’s stuck with me. - Elizabeth...more

There was a dull moment in this story and as the intriguing events played out, I was pulled deeper and deeper into Bleu and Taryn’s story and they dug deeper into my heart as well, in others Bleu’s story was well worth the wait, now I have to wait for the next one but it will be hard to top this one, of course I’m sure Felicity Heaton’s up to the task. - Eva...more

The Lord of the Dead sent her back to our world, wanting to find out if a life among the dead was what she truly wished. Back in the world of the living she has a hard time getting along. Her parents send her to a boarding school for children like her. All of them walked through doorways to other worlds and all of them want to find the doorway back.
Every Heart a Doorway starts out with an amazing premise and even the prose at the start of the novel (Might be shorter than a novel—I’m not really sure) pulled me in. Each child/teen has come from their own world, which they define with words like high nonsense, wicked, and virtue. It isn’t long until Nancy gets settled and the story turns into a murder mystery.
Nancy has just come from a world where stillness is a virtue and bright colors offend the eyes. She worked her best to be a human statue, and now is trying to navigate her new school life. She is forced to roommate with someone who stumbled out of a nonsense world, and turned into my favorite character in a matter of moments. This is unfortunate because it isn’t long before she becomes the first victim.
Nancy works with a couple of the other students, not the most popular bunch, to discover the mystery killer. If readers pay attention they’ll quickly figure it out.
Every Heart a Doorway has some dynamic prose and background. The plot line was underwhelming with great characters. I wanted an epic journey of Nancy finding her back to the real world and adapting/growing or fighting to find her doorway back. - Elizabeth...more

The chemistry between Callum Lou is sizzling and the romance is sweet but talk about opposites. The author gave her characters strong, compelling personalities that grab the reader’s attention in this fast paced and smooth flowing plot full of suspense, excitement and romance.
