The first four hundred pages deal with Acherons history and everything that happened to him up in till he became the leader for the dark-hunters. It starts off with his birth and Apollymi giving him to a human Queen. The thought was that if she tied the Queens son’s life to Acheron's then they would protect him and keep him safe. He was to be raised as a prince to want or need for nothing. Instead what he got was nothing from both parents, who despised him since the moment he was born. Then he was given to an uncle at age seven and sold as a sex slave. Then even once he was brought back home and fell in love with the Goddess Artemis he still knew nothing but pain. As much love and forgiveness he showed her she only turned on him and betrayed him every time. Then to die at the hands of her bother because she had drugged him and he didn't hear the two people he loved most in the world slaughtered wail he could do nothing.
His death brought about an unimaginable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then out of fear for herself, Artemis brought him back against his will only to bind him to her. Even then his hatred for her was so strong he refused her until she found the perfect bargaining chip. She made dead humans into dark-hunters knowing he would do anything she wished to protect and help them.
Acheron has flight to keep his past hidden, afraid of what his friends and fellow dark-hunters would think of him if they knew the truth. But one human woman refuses to let him intimidate her , and is endanger of exposing him and possibly ending the world. As if that's was his only problem, this woman ignites feelings he never thought possible for him to feel towards another person and now she is being threatened. There is a herd of demons, humans and who knows what else out to get her and the book she found that will not only expose him, but it will end the world. Now he has to keep her safe from danger wail he keeps his heart safe from her. He may find this is a more difficult task than he has ever done. I loved this book. Since ash is my favorite it would stand to reason this book would be my favorite. I knew a lot of details of his past before reading it so I wasn't shocked and so the book didn't hit me as hard as it did others. Some say it was too difficult to get through and stuff. I knew what was coming so it was expected. It was tough seeing him miss treated and abused. But the second part of the book was light hearted and fun, very exciting and I loved seeing ash interact with his dark-hunters. Artemis never fails to show her true ugliness. I can't even describe how much I can't stand her. But I have to say I have changed my opinion of Apollyomi, she has showed me a different side and I respect her a lot. This book was packed with it all, love, hate, sorrow, happiness and action. It’s a must read in this series but I am kind of glad she waited for his book it made you fall in love with him first. **Athenna**...more
Shia wakes up in a room with the sociopathic vampire Max. He starts to drill Shia with questions. The first thing she does is try to escape.3.5 Stars
Shia wakes up in a room with the sociopathic vampire Max. He starts to drill Shia with questions. The first thing she does is try to escape. Her attempts end up leading her to discover that not only is Max a crazy vampire murder, but also a dealer in human trafficking. Because of the continued problems that Shia causes him, he ends up putting her in a different part of his home, near his bedroom. Shia’s defiance only grows with Max’s abuse. Her best friend and business partner, Sara is brought in to control her.
Enslaved By the Others starts out nail biting, only I had to play catch up. I didn’t at once remember what happened from the end of the last book and had to glance back. The book before this one felt like a set up for the events in Enslaved By the Others. If you’re looking at reading H&W Investigations series then I strongly advise starting with the first book, Hunted by the Others. If you haven’t kept up with this series I warn you that my review may confuse you or give you some spoilers.
Yes, Max has kidnapped Shia again, but this time things are harder. The start of a novel had a theme that went: Shia is defiant, she gets knocked down. She acts that way again, and it happens again. Each time is worse than the other, and each time gets harder to read. I don’t mean hard to read in a bad way, but this is some serious abuse. I don’t actually understand some of why Max never just killed her, but he’s a power tripping mofo, so I let it go.
There are new characters to look forward to. A demon, who is straight out of some awesome mythology and another character who I suspect to be an angel. There is a ton of Gideon who I thought was played up too weary and mysterious in the last book, but I grew to love him in this book. Actually out of everyone in this book I liked his character the most. Side note: Please don’t give him the axe.
I think this is a much better book than the last one. The story kept me on my toes and is filled with tons of action. Shia does things and steps up. I loved that, even if sometimes her strange comments drove me nuts. Like remarking on how the other slaves in Max’s creepy dungeon are prettier and smarter. Really, that’s what you’re thinking about? Shia still isn’t exactly my heroine of choice but she’s getting there.
In short, I think this was one of the better novels in the series. Some of the action scenes towards the end became a little confusing and I still wish the battle outcomes were less predictable. There are still things I don’t like in this series, but the action and tension held together nicely, making it a page turner. - Elizabeth...more
In Magic Bites, Kate Daniels is a magical sword wielding mercenary looking for the person who murdered her mentor and the only family she had3.5 Stars
In Magic Bites, Kate Daniels is a magical sword wielding mercenary looking for the person who murdered her mentor and the only family she had left. Her search takes her deep into the world of shifters, necromancers, vampires and magic and it will be an up hill battle to make it out alive.
I recently asked our followers which series on my personal reading challenge list I should make sure to read by the end of the year and almost everyone said this one. Listening to our wonderful followers I finally picked up Magic Bites and while I didn't love it the way so many people do, I did like it. Kate herself was great because she is my favorite type of heroine, strong and capable but flawed. She knows she isn't perfect and she's ok with that. Kate is both simple and complicated I look forward to seeing the changes, if there are any, to her character as the series progresses.
There are vampires in Kate's world but they aren't pretty and they sure don't sparkle. They're hideous creatures that are magically controlled. There are also a variety of shifters that are ruled by the beast king Curran. Both were developed nicely and give a different take on popular paranormal creatures.
So what didn't I care for? All the magic. I knew magic would be present in the book but it felt a bit overwhelming at times. The story takes place in an alternate Atlanta where magic is a strong force in, well everything. All the explanations, rules and who uses what type of magic takes up a good part of the book and tended to slow things down. Even when a battle was happening. I didn't hate it, I just didn't expect it being such a strong force in the book. I think now that I know what to expect I'll enjoy future books more.
There are things I did and didn't like about Magic Bites but at no point did I think I wasn't going to continue the series. It was a good start to an Urban Fantasy series that left me wanting to know more about its mouthy main character and what will be the next threat to hit the streets of Atlanta. -Stephanie...more
Arikos is a dream-hunter a race of gods who were cursed by the Zeus to longer feel any type of emotions. After centuries of searching he finally foundArikos is a dream-hunter a race of gods who were cursed by the Zeus to longer feel any type of emotions. After centuries of searching he finally found a woman whose dreams are so vivid he could feel her emotions as his own. He comes to her in her dreams over and over till it becomes an obsession. After being told that he has spent too much type on one human and that he must leave her and move on. He finds he can't and the strangest part for him is the fact he wants more than just what he can have in his Dreams. He wants to be part of her life feel her as a human man would. So In order to become human he must make a deal with a god and no god in Olympus would dare help him so the only one who he could ask to help is Hades. As with any deal with a god there is a steep price to be paid , And the price Hades is asking is the soul of the one person In This world he covets more than anything else.
Dr. Megeara kafieri has watch most of her family searched for Atlantis and many died for the search. Her father died a laughing stock the world never believed his findings. On his death bed Mageara promised she would not let his research go to waste and would continue on he's quest to find the lost city. This promise was given half heartedly with no intentions of following though. Till she received a few items that he father left for her. They were irrefutable proof that the city was real and obtainable. Through her own need to proof her father right and the guilt of not believing him herself she set out to uncover his secrete city.
Arik fell into the voyage with Geary quite latterly. After his deal with Hades he found himself drowning Geary jumping in to save him. Now he must help Geary on her quest to uncover Atlantis to gain her trust. But the gods have other plans they refuse to allow Atlantis be found and Apollymi inadvertently released causing an apocalypse.
Arik is a bit stiff and how naïve he is of the real world is hilarious. He has a cute little boy charm and he finds more than what he thought he would in the real world. Geary is very driven a bit of a prude you know she wants Arik but she will not let down those guards wail she is awake. But my favorite is Solin he is soo funny. He sarcastic and he bring out a fun teasing personality in Arik. He tries to pretend that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself but you can tell underneath it all he has a heart of gold. I hope to see more of him in the future. This was not my favorite book in the series but I must say even the slower books that are not my top favs they are still some of the better books I've read. There is not one book in this series I did not like. Athenna...more

He was taught that kindness was a weakness and his brothers delivered the final blow to him, when they killed him. There was no one in his human life that cared for him and he found he had even less friends and loved ones in his dark hunter life. For years he tried to avoid those who his family had hurt, wail he was human, but now in the same city with the man his grandfather crucified and the brother he who endured unimaginable torture by their father for his acts of kindness toward his brother; whom at the time he only knew as a slave, only learn he is his brother. All of this made him a bit stand offish, and he was hated by almost all the dark hunters and their squires. He never pictured anything good to come of his life, till he met Tabitha. Tabitha was wild, unrefined, stubborn, and sassy to boot all wrapped up in a warriors body. None had ever drawn him as she did everything that annoyed him about her only drew him closer to her. She was like no woman he even met. He knew he couldn’t keep her, but he couldn’t let her go. He met her family and was astonished with the love and devotion her sister had for each other. Then he learns that Tabitha was the twin sister to Amanda the wife of Kyrian. Kyrain was a great warrior; his grandfather saw as a challenge; then slept with Kyrians wife and turned her against him. Then after he had taken his wife in from of him Valerius’s grandfather crucified Kyrian in front of everyone. If this was not a large enough blow to Kyrian, Valerius was the spitting image of his grandfather. He knew right away this was trouble; he could be the cause of her family hardships but again he couldn’t let her go. All petty differences aside everyone is going to have to work together there is a war on new Orleans and the Daimons were winning. There are so many deaths the council is having trouble hiding them all. The target of all the madness is Tabitha, Amanda and Kyrian. Somehow they need to all work together and save everyone wail keeping each other safe. I liked this book I think Tabitha had a lot of fire. I really liked her personality. Valerius is sexy in his own way , but really it was Tabby who made this story happen . Val was very funny to tease and I loved how he just didn’t get it sometimes. But the best was when Tabby stuck up for him, she knew she seen a good person and he needed protecting, maybe even from himself. I am very much enjoying this series. Stephanie had me read this first one a while back and I have gotten a bit busy but I’m focused now I want to finish this series I have get to read one I didn’t like. This one is not my favorite but I did enjoy it and I loved how almost all the dark hunters were in it for at least a few minutes, I miss them after I’m done with their books. I was happy with the ending and I think you will be to My Rating:31/2 Athenna...more

She put her trust in the wrong person and it cost her, her job, her boyfriend, and everything. Now she works for Leo Kirby, a friend from collage, one of the only friends she had left. She hated her job she went from reporting real news to doing puff pieces that didn’t have a shred of truth in them. Leo sent her out to research a claim from a lady who said her boss was a shape shifting cat that made her life hell. Well out researching it, her friend Angie called her and insisted she visit her at her vet clinic. When she got there Angie forced her to look at the cats to keep up appearances that they did not know each other. To her surprise Angie’s husband Jimmy was there too and he was ranting about vampires and a conspiracies that when up the political ladder in the police force. Once at home with the cat she was force to take to keep up the appearance, She thought this must be a joke as the cat she brought home quickly transformed into the most gorgeous man she had ever laid eyes on. With the arrival of this handsome man came a whole new world she never knew existed, and to her surprise her boss Leo was knee deep in it. Ravyn Kontis has been alone for centuries and that is how he likes it, no one to hurt, leave or betray you. But when this spit fire of a women was thrust into his life and turned it upside down, he wanted nothing more than to never be alone again. He knows the rules he can’t have her, he swore himself to serve Artemis and not to have relationships with anyone especially a human. But the more he sees of her strength and determination he is taken in by her. He can’t help himself but to be drawn in by her. She makes him feel something he has not felt in a long time, Loved. Susan is stunned by how much suffering this man has gone though to lose half his family due to the betrayal of his new mate, then to be killed by his remaining family. Even though she knew it was impossible she wanted this man and didn’t want to ever let him go. They battled together and seen a few of his fellow dark-hunters die at their enemies hands , no there was no going back from her only forward and she only hoped she could go forward with him. This book in the series was very good I liked it. I thought that Susan was a strong no nonsense type of woman. She didn’t take crap from anyone and she could dish it just as well as she could take it. She used humor to ease her uneasiness, but I felt it was all tasteful and funny. She never backed down from Ravyn, she took everything he gave her and supported him the whole time even if she was allergic to him. Ravyn is handsome and strong as with all Dark-hunters, but he did not ask for revenge for his death, no he had asked Artemis for revenge for his family who was slaughtered due to his mates betrayal. He took his job as a Dark-Hunter seriously and would risk it all to save a human but not at the risk of Susan. This book has some very interesting things happen, it’s the first time I seen Nick and Ash square off since Nicks incident. It was hard to see. I learned a little more about Stryker. I loved the Buffy references when Susan said she was Buffy and would help them, that was funny. I did not like the five by five, Buffy reference, I didn’t really like it when faith said it on Buffy so I’m not apt to like it when anyone else says it either. The ending was good I was a little unclear why a few things went the way they did but maybe they will clear out in another book as most things normally do. This is defiantly one of the better series I have read. Athenna...more
