Now she has to learn that the best plan is to have no plan and figure out what she truly wants both in life and in her heart while David has to learn how to trust again and open his heart to the woman who doesn't fit in his world, but makes the most sense.

What you read is what you get in this story of an older man / younger woman, father's best friend / best friend's daughter, high-school coach / high-school student, alpha-male / geeky-girl. It's one of those reads that delivers on the instant gratification without all of the complication, so when I went looking for an easy read without all the drama, this one definitely made good on it's promising synopsis and make sure to check out that warning ;)...more

Even while reading it, I still didn't know what to expect and I have to say that's one of the best things about it. I didn't want to go into it with any preconceived notions that this couldn't happen or that couldn't be believed because of the taboo nature of the story so I waited until most of the hoopla of the release had died down to read it. Glad I did. So when I felt my mind was at its most open, I opened the story and started reading.
First off, I knew that I was really going to like Mia. I mean this chick was handed a raw deal after handing over what could've been the best years of her life to a scumbag. If ever I find myself down, I should think "What would Mia do?" since she refused to let the past define the rest of her future. Instead she picked herself up, dusted herself off and headed to a gym. Then she began focusing on her passion. It was while she was busy reiginiting her creativity and finding her youth, that in walked in the man who would change the rest of her life. Only thing was she already knew him but a year abroad changed him from simply being her son's best friend to a man. So begins an affair unlike any other and while it may have started as a lust-fueled itch scratching on both their parts, it definitely doesn't take long for the lines to blur and for real feelings to complicate things.
Gotta hand it to Gray, he really stepped up when I didn't expect him to. The times Mia had doubts because of age or her son, he managed to not only squash her fears but mine as well. I don't want to give anything away, but the part of the 6 weeks alone they had together was a great time to read as they found together who they are and what they wanted. It was beautiful.
I really can't find fault with the story except that it didn't last long enough. And maybe I would liked to have read something about the reaction of Gray's mom and stepfather when they found out but it's because of them why I was initially rooting for the pair before they even began. You'll have to read it to find out why.

I really enjoyed how Emelyn and Lawson's story was revealed with just the right amount of flashbacks without being overwhelming and in some very poignant places. I got a really good sense of where these two were headed and how it all went wrong. Although I did feel like there was some meat to the story that was missing. It was a lack of depth that didn't have me completely invested and feeling like I should've been. I felt what the characters were feeling, but I didn't take it with me as powerfully as I should have - if that makes any sense. Most especially when Lawson committed a pretty big wrong (in my book) against Emelyn and I wished that she would've made him beg for it a bit more after so much wasted time and useless excuses. Lawson took the guilt and made himself the victim and then hid instead of manning up and facing his mistakes. Now I did grow to like him more, but it was a slow build and then before I knew it it was over. Maybe more Lawson character depth would've helped sway me sooner.
Aside from that I thought this was a really sweet, cute, and sexy story. Things may not have worked out in the way they were supposed to for Lawson and Emelyn, but that's what makes it a memorable story and I can't wait to go back! Thanks to the author for the epilogue!...more

I guess I was expecting something with more of an edge to it, you know with the whole sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll attitude since the story deals with up and coming rockstars with the added fuel of young adults, however I was pleasantly surprised to find that some of the characters had adorable personalities or quirks about them that made me wish they were real.

Love among step-siblings, surrogacy, faithfulness, honesty, redemption, forgiveness, are all tested between Devon and Mila. While they didn’t grow up together, they certainly carried a secret attraction and chemistry that was increasingly harder to hide. In this situation, Devon is married and therefore unavailable, however, he’s feeling incapable in his marriage and finds failure in that not to be an option, which I totally admired him for. Dev doesn’t run at the first sign of trouble in paradise, but this wasn’t the first time and increasingly weighs heavily on him. It’s at one of the lowest points in his marriage that Mila makes her presence more pronounced in his life than ever before and soon the lines are blurred. Does he cave to temptation and happiness? Or fight for the loyalty he vowed to another? As the reader, I have to say the answer comes rather quickly what he should do, but alas the story must go on with a few twists and turns before coming to that same resolve.
The wife, Monique, has without a doubt a very sharp tongue and it was hard to comprehend that person to be Dev’s wife and for him to so willingly take whatever filth she decided to spew out. He took a lot from her all for the sake of saving their crumbling marriage and remain true to the vows he takes seriously. Even still though, it was hard to witness him handing over his man-card to a woman who obviously didn’t deserve him. I was glad Mila was able to give it back to him although the cost of too much wasted time, among other things, was truly frustrating and left me a little unsatisfied with the ending. Was there a HEA? Yes! However, what irked me a little was how quickly everything was wrapped up. It felt like the issues that were so prevalent for the majority of the story and then a bonus unexpected development for Dev and Mila should’ve been paid its due, but was (to me) a little glossed over.
Regardless of which character was more right than wrong, they both hesitated, miscommunicated, and made mistakes that should’ve been further developed before almost immediately going for the HEA. Several questions for the couple still linger in my mind, but then again I can’t complain too badly since this story made me open my mind to a new possibility or idea of what love can do to a person and what someone is willing to do for someone they love. Not at all what I expected, but so glad I read it. As a side note: a few editing errors can be found, but nothing I couldn’t recover from quickly....more
