The second half did speak to me but not as much as I would have liked. I doubt I will ever read another book by these authors.
My thoughts so far:
There is a reason Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite fairy tale... Because Beauty doesn't twidle her thumbs waiting for a prince to come to her rescue she fights for him (novel thought). Ruth didn't wait for a man to become her "kinsman redeemer" she went to the thrashing floor and laid at Boaz's feet- she reminded him of his duty. - I do not think it fair to claim that all women just want to be rescued.
Her own examples disprove the point she's trying to make... Ever After... Yes Henry makes Danielle a princess but she constently challenges him and frankly saves herself (and him on occasion). Danielle makes Henry into a man (not merely a prince). I do like Robert Alter's redefinition of help meet- "sustainer beside him".
Five chapters in and I am finally getting to the heart of the matter. After devoting 5 chapters to why women long for beuaty (I sware that I - like many of the women I know- am a way more complicated person then this book would have me believe) we finally get to the how. The book has become a little more interesting for me now. (less)

I ended up giving it a three because there were some points that I agreed with and some I didn't. While in highschool I "dated" one and only one person and when it ended I quickly came to realize that nothing good can come from a highschool relationship. Then came this book.
I dorted my husband. What is dorting you might ask? Dorting is a phrase coined by my brother (or so he claims). it is a mix between dating and courting. from the moment we began seeing each other we were doing so with the intent of marriage. I won't lie and say that we did not have a physical relationship. We cuddled during movies and kissed but kept sex for marriage.
I don't believe there is anything wrong with dating once you are old enough that marriage is also possible. I think that if you can trust yourself and your partner to not give into temptation and cross the line being alone together is not wrong.
I am glad I read it and would again. But I am not sure I would use this book as the only one to give my child. Maybe match it with Dating with a Pure Passion or I gave dating a chance. (less)

I have very fond and emotional memories of the stories in this book. I use to sit behind the table at the Mennoite culture stand of the Ktown Folk Fest reading about these amazing men and women of faith. There was one (a letter from a mother about to die for her faith to her child) that has always stuck with me.
If you want to be challenged and inspired this is a wonderful book. (less)
