"Neon Angel" is a wild ride from start to finish.
This memoir takes us from Currie's "surfer girl" upbringing to her "Rebel Rebel" teenaged years as the singer of The first all girl rock band,The Runaways. Cherie is thrust into the big-time world of rock music, and of course, the drugs that come along with fame.
Cherie delves into the life style of the 1980's-the affect David Bowie had on her and her peers-the dysfunctional family life of The runaways all the while regaining an often dark story, including rape and attacks at are excruciating to read and I feel obligated to yell "TRIGGER WARNING!"
Currie documents these times as vividly and perhaps much too realistically.
My personal favorite moments from the memoir is Cherie's thoughts on her relationship with Joan Jett: "She was my anchor. How do I explain about a person that was my best friend, someone I would confide in like a sister, someone who to me became a strong, sexual attraction? Well, it's easy. Just like how easy it was to be that way with her. I can leave it by saying that I had moments with a friend that quake me to this day. And they were some of the most satisfying moments of my young life."
Neon Angel: a memoir of a runaway is often hard to stomach-that being said it is an amazing story that reads like an adventure novel that faces very real obstacles and hard ships.
She strives to give hope to people who don't feel that they will recover. But she is living proof that there is always a chance for recovery-whether it be from drugs, near death or rape.
Cherie Currie illustrates the dark side of fame-the drugs, the friendships, the sexual encounters-the horror stories that I only thought possible in Crime novels or TV shows. But unfortunately are real events in Cherie Currie's life which are approach with real life severity.
Currie's transformation from Bowie-wannabe to Cherry Bomb to actress to recovery to drug counselor to mom and finally bad ass chain saw artist are a riveting read.
All that Cherie has gone through goes to show what a strong spirited women she has become.
She is, in fact, a role model. The seer amount of times she has had to pick herself up and start again is admirable. I know that I couldn't deal with all she has been through-but she has and continues to do so.
She ends with a tribute To Her Friend and Bandmate-Sandy West.
There is nothing else left for me to say except that "Neon Angel" is a phenomenal read and I genuinely recommend it to a wide range of readers as it gives a very solid point: You can get through this. You can survive.

Georgina is the bomb, One of my favourite Heroines of all time. For me she had no weaknesses in character and she knew who she was-which i think is important in a character. I seriously wished this book was much longer and had its own series- where we could see their daily lives together- I think others would find that boring but i would love it! Beautiful story full of Romance, Action And Of course, comady. This Was the first Malory Novel i ever read- in fact-i think it was the first Johanna Lindsey book i had ever read. James made my day with his quirky comments and scarcastic humour. George's innocence and humor--Johanna Lindsey out did herself.(less)
