I don't know why it took me so long to get back to this series, but I'm glad I did. These stories are primarily urban fantasy with just enough romance to keep me interested. For those who aren't very interested in that don't be put off, Adams doesn't put the romance in the forefront. Our mystery and action remains the main objective and as far as romance goes this has to be the most adult characters I've read in a long time. When there are more important things going on no one lets the relationship stuff get in the way. There are a lot of things that happen in this story and things keep getting more complicated and not showing any signs of slowing down in poor Celia's life. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.(less)

I really enjoy the characters and the very interesting world Vincent has created here. The ongoing story is so interesting and complex. I can't wait to see what happens next. I can't help but wonder more about the complicated psychic who had seen the future and manipulated all of these interesting people to get a specific outcome. While frustrating as the characters see how this loved friend worked things to a specific outcome I think there is much more manipulation to come. And it makes you consider how hard it would be to lead a normal life with constant knowledge of an endless future and to what extremes would you go to in order to protect those you love, already in existence and not even a part of your life yet. All that and I haven't even mentioned the romance. Well in this world with people bound by magic in service of mafia type organizations they aren't easy and this story carried on with complicated love that of course overcomes the situation with action and slick maneuvering amongst these crime families. I enjoy the Kate Daniels world even when it isn't Kate as the main character. They have created a series with so many strong side characters I'm invested in all of them and enjoy getting something new. The strength of their writing is just as good in this with plenty of witty banter and yet I never felt like I was reading a Kate book with someone else's name as lead. Andrea is a strong character on her own. I was happy her and Raphael finally got some more page time and worked out their issues. Roman was an interesting addition I love a character who has shades of gray and hope we will see more of him in the future. Since I've become an obviously shameless fan I will leave it at that and say I look forward to more books from this duo in all their series. (less)

At book number 11 I'm still loving this series. The characters and world are so well thought out and developed. This story had me hooked from start to finish and I can't wait for the next one.
That being said it wasn't a perfect book. The flow was a little disrupted by the vampire issues/politics. I think it will be necessary for the future of the series. But when it was thrown in I was so involved with the main story it distracted and I just wanted to skip past it. That being said it was as usual well written and as I said probably necessary.
My one and only other complaint that is probably nothing like anyone else's. I was so glad to see Rachel and Trent make progress. Everyone had told me they made real progress this time. But I expected a little more. I like that Harrison has not let the romance overshadow her storyline. She writes an amazing story and it doesn't focus on the romance. But for several books we have ended with Rachel and Trent making progress. It's starting to become a theme and is getting predictable in my opinion. I wanted the progress to be more throughout the book and concrete. No possibility for slipping back down that slope these two characters can't move past. They have gradually made progress over the years and we never go back to the beginning state of things, but we don't seem to be making much progress. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Harrison doesn't find a way to let these two slip backwards again.
On an extra note could have totally done without that awful elvin woman. Didn't like her before and still don't like her. Even in small doses I want to punch her. Please please do not make me suffer through that woman in another book.
Again. Great book, great series. So looking forward to seeing how Harrison raps this all up in the next couple of books. You can see the loose ends tying up and things coming to a close. Have to commend Harrison in not making it feel rushed or trying to pull it all together in one book.(less)
