Although the time frame is different from the favorites currently for setting. It is the time of restoration in England. The returning of freedom of the English Roman Catholic brought the return of many who had fled to exile. Nicholas was just that an Earl who had been living in exile. On his return he is trying to keep a promise to his father to get back their family estate. He meets Anna who is of course the daughter of a Protestant family who now owns his family lands. I absolutely enjoyed their story and the process of two such opposite people falling in love. With secrets and fleeing from an arranged marriage it is not an easy road for either of them, but I believed they could have really fallen in love this way. It wasn't instant (neither disliked the other, they didn't really know each other) as they had to get past their different upbringing to the person each is. My only complaint is the end with the Kings involvement seemed a little maybe to easy or off for the story either way it just didn't work as well for me. But it was really a minor thing....more

Romance always comes with an expectation of HEA and there are only so many options of emotions and how's to get to that conclusion. The same goes for supernatural there is rarely anything overly original. For this first book in Ivy's PNR series it's pretty much a lot of what readers of the genre will expect. Some use of old myths and ideas on vampires and demons mixed with some of Ivy's own twist. I always enjoy an authors original twists and this was not an exception regardless of my low star count. This is obviously a popular series and I think I'm in the minority by finding the story only okay.
The reason for the two stars is that the story was really slow for me. The characters were okay although obviously meant to be very likable regardless of the bad boy persona that seemed intended for Dante. Abby was obviously suppose to be the average female in looks with a bad past. But for me while the ideas of who the character were suppose to be we're intriguing I didn't end up finding them very exceptional at all. The interaction between the two was a bit to sugary for me from the start and if I hadn't been told about the difficult past for both characters I wouldn't have believed it. I prefer to see it, well as much as you can while reading, in the actions and feelings of a character.
The plot while interesting at first dragged on and on. It was as if very little progress was made in long gaps. And the decision to search for the witches and the search itself did not seem particularly well thought out.
I truly enjoyed the set up for the next book. Viper seems like a very interesting and more complex character. His interaction with what I assume will be his mate in the next book was some of the best in the story. I'm truly looking forward to reading Viper's story Embrace The Darkness. I usually find first books in a series my least favorite and considering the popularity of this series I assume they most likely they get better. ...more

The second one picks up where the first one leaves off, but switches points of view. Jordan created an interesting twist on shifters with more of a sci-fi feel. I loved this race of human like cat shifters and the characters in this series. I would like to have had a little more in depth story line to go with the romance, but all in all I liked the stories....more
